  • We investigated epitaxial relations of phase transitions between the lamellar (L), hexagonally perforated layers (HPL), and gyroid (G) morphologies in styrene-isoprene diblock copolymer (PSI) and polyisoprene (PI)/PSI blend using rheology and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques. In HPLlongrightarrowG transitions, six spot patterns of G phase were observed in two-dimensitional SAXS pattern. On the other hand, in direct L-longrightarrowG transition without appearance of HPL phase, the polydomain patterns of G phase were observed. From present study, it was understood that direct LlongrightarrowG transition of blend may be suppressed by high-energy barrier of transition and mismatches in domain orientation between epitaxially related lattice planes.

  • The age-hardening behavior and the structural changes in a commercial dental Au-Ag-Cu-Pd alloy were investigated by means of hardness test, optical and scanning electron microscopic observation, energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction study. The drastic reduction in hardness by prolonged aging occurred after a rapid increase in hardness at the initial stage by the isothermal aging at $350^{\circ}C$. This softening was due to the broad precipitates formation of the lamellar structure which was composed of the f.c.t. AuCu I ordered f.c.t. phase containing Pd and the f.c.c. Ag-rich $\alpha$1 solid solution f.c.c.phase containing Au.

  • The ESEM could be used in investigating the fibrous networks developed during handsheet-forming processes with the exception of the stages relating to the actual dispersion of the fibers and the drying of formed sheets. Also the cross-sectional images of swollen fibers were generated with the ESEM but the information given by the images was rarely fresh compared to the CLSM images. The LTSEM was extremely useful in generating images of the microfibrillar structure of a wet fiber with great resolution. However, pretreatment required in the LTSEM chamber was somewhat tedious due to the time consumed in sublimation of ice and sputter coating. For observation of lamellar structure of a hydrated fiber, the LTSEM exhibited greatly detailed structure with high resolution. Finally ESEM and LTSEM should be used in a finite field such as observation of surface morphology in detail.

  • Comparative study on the spermatogenesis of two kinds of Korean planarias, Dugesia japonica and Phagocata vivida, were studied with light and electron microscope. Observation results were as follows. Except following details, fine structure and morphogenesis of the spermatogonia, primary spermatocyte, secondary spermatocyt spermatid and spermatozoon were consistant between the two species. The nucleus of primary spermatocyte of Dugesia japonica was surrounded with 36-38 microtubules, while that of Phagocata vivida with 40-42 microtubules. The C-shaped lamellar Golgi complex appeared in the spermatid cytoplasm of the former, while Straight-shaped lamellar Golgi complex in that of the latter. The four white spots were observed only in the nucleoplasm of matured spermatozoon in the latter, not in the former.

  • In this study , fluoborte solution consisting of lead fluoborate, tin fluoborate and cupric acetate was used. By addition of small amount of Cu+= ion to the solution, the Cu content of deposition layer was almost controlled less than 5%. The amount of Cu in deposition layer was almost constant without any influence of Pb++ & Sn++ in the solution, and the amount of Pb was increased by the increase of total concentration of Pb++ +Sn++ in the solution, and the amount of Pb was increased by the increase of total concentration of Pb++ +Sn++ in the solution . Agitation of plating solution & low current density result in the increase of Cu content. Analyzing of microscopic structures and etching tests of the deposited alloy, it was believed that the alloy had a lamellar structure consisting of copper rich lamellar and lead rich layer.

  • Surface hardening mechanism of AA 2024 was investigated when shot peeningprocess with shot ball of Zn alloy was applied. Zn alloy was transferred into surface region of AA 2024, forming lamellar structure of Al and Zn phase. Nanocrystallization of AA 2024 and alloyed Zn phase was achieved by the different mechanisms. Furthermore, precipitations in AA 2024 remained undissolved. Lamellar structure with different nano-sized grains of two different phase and randomly distributed precipitations contributed to the surface hardening.

  • The effect of the microstructural change on the near threshold fatigue crack growth rate in SM40C steel has been studied using the ${\Delta}K$ decreasing method. Below the total strain amplitude of 0.56%, cyclic softening occured, whereas above this value cyclic hardening occurred in the pearlitic lamellar structure. However, in the spherodized structure the cyclic hardening solely occurred. The crack growth rate in the near-threshold region was decreased with increasing prior austenite grain size and this was due to surface roughness. The crack growth rate of the spherodized structure was lower than that of the pearlite lamellar structure and the ${\Delta}K_{th}$ of the former was higher than that of the latter. It was understood that the crack propagates preferentially through the ferrite phase. The intergranular facets in the near-threshold region appeared in the spherodized structure.

  • The spheroidization of cold rolled lamellar pearlite in annealing at the temperatures between 600 and $700^{\circ}C$ has been studied by quantitative micrography. It was foud that the spheroidization proceeded as two stageh. The first stage was the stage of relieving the stored energy by cold work, the second was the stage of reducing the interface energy between ferrite and cementite. The spheroidization rate combining the spheroidization rate of each stages is described by the following equation : $$d(1/S)/dt=k_3{\cdot}D/_{(1/s)}\{{\sigma}V/_{(1/s)}+k_4{\cdot}{\exp}(-bt)\}$$ Where, S is the total area of the interface between ferrite and cementite per unit volume, D is the diffusion coefficient, ${\sigma}$ is the boundary energy, V is the volume fraction of the cementite, and $k_3$, $k_4$, b are constants.

  • This paper describes a robotic teleoperation system to perform an accurate needle insertion into a cornea for a separation between the stromal layer and Descemet's membrane during deep anterior lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK). The system can reduce the hand tremor of a surgeon by scaling the input motion, which is the control input of the slave robot. Moreover, we utilize corneal applanation to estimate the insertion depth. The proposed system was validated by performing the layer separation using 25 porcine eyes. The average depth of needle insertion was 742 ± 39.8 ㎛ while the target insertion depth was 750 ㎛. Tremor error was reduced from 402 ± 248 ㎛ in the master device to 28.5 ± 21.0 ㎛ in the slave robot. The rate of complete success, partial success, and failure were 60, 28, and 12%, respectively. The experimental results showed that the proposed system was able to reduce the hand tremor of surgeons and perform precise needle insertion during DALK.

  • The non-Newtonian flow curves of sodium bis-(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate-water lamellar liquid crystals were obtained in various concentrations and temperatures by using a cone-plate rheometer. By applying non-Newtonian flow equation to the flow curves for AOT-water lamellar liquid crystal samples, the rheological parameters were obtained. Particular attention is given to the hysteresis loop detected when the liquid crystal samples are shear under increasing-decreasing shear stress modes which result in thixotropic and dilatant behavior. Sodium bis-(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate-water lamellar liquid crystals behave as weak gels when they are subjected to shear flow, but when the applied stress surpasses the yield stress, they exhibit non-linear viscoelasticity. Upon decreasing shear rate, the dispersion still preserves much of its structure and consequently its shear stress remains higher than the values measured in the increasing shear rate mode.
