Image perception by bride's makeup and head dress was classified as five dimensions: 'distinctive', 'tidy', 'elegant', 'soft', and 'beautiful'. There was a significant difference in image perception from culture and head dress. The result of interactive effect due to culture and makeup showed that Korean students perceived pink makeup as close to more elegant image, and American students felt orange makeup. We can know through above contents that there was significant difference in image perception by makeup and head dress between Korean and American students. Also, American students in general evaluated the photos (stimulus) presented positively compared to Korean students. This can be interpreted as a meaning that the degree to perceive each photos of American students was lower than Korean students.

  • The objective of this study is to compare the general body measurements and shoulder shapes of Korean and American elderly women to supply basic data for the apparel design. The anthropometrics data was collected including both direct and indirect measurements of 283 women over the age of 55 in Korean and the American women. The statistical methods used for the analysis of measurement data are the T-test, Exploratory data analysis, ANOVA and Duncan-test respectively. The results of the T-test indicated that there is a significant difference in the 14 body measurement items except of waist circumference. The results of exploratory data analysis, an independent relationship between shoulder slope angle and forward shoulder roll of Korean women. On the other hand, there is a dependent relationship that the bigger shoulder slope and forward shoulder roll with wide cross back shoulder of American women. Comparison of mean among the three different age groups, aged 55~59 group shows significant differences in the value of difference between cross back shoulders and horizontal shoulder width. This finding indicates that the wide and forward roll shoulder needs to special pattern making like ease amount and curvature for fit and comfort for women's apparel.

  • This essay examines the first-generation Korean American writer, No-Yong Park's falsehoods about his ethnic identity to suggest how and why he passed for Chinese, and to explore the political, anti-Japanese implications of these actions. The essay first identifies erroneous information circulating about his biographical background, presents some other materials that help us better understand the context in which he forged his Chinese identity, and then examines how he represented himself as Chinese in his published works. I would argue that Park's self-identification as Chinese was a resulting outcome of his naturalization caused by the Japanese colonial power in Korea and also one of his surviving strategies in the racist environment within American society. Looking at some of his works-including Making a New China (1929), An Oriental View of American Civilization (1934), Chinaman's Chance: Autobiography (1940)-and examining how he represented Korea and its people reveal how he tried to raise voice for them. By doing so, this essay illuminates Park's resistance to Japan's colonial discourse and power in Korea while revealing his lifetime passing as Chinese-far from his refusal to belong to the Korean community, or to acknowledge being Korean.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to make a comparative analysis of the websites of dental office from different countries to provide some information for the quality evaluation of the websites of dental office. Methods : Two hundred twenty-four dental websites were selected by using Yahoo, one of the international portal sites, which included 59 from the United States, 50 from the United Kingdom, 54 from Canada, and 61 from Korea. Results : 1. As results of the credibility of the websites, the Canadian websites were most reliable, followed by the American websites, the English websites and the Korean ones(p<0.005). 2. As results of the complementarity of the websites, the Korean websites were most interactive, followed by the American websites, the English websites, and the Canadian ones(p<0.001). 3. As results of the accessibility of use of the websites, the Korean websites were easiest to use, followed by the American websites, the Canadian websites, and the English ones(p<0.001). 4. As results of the update of the websites from the nations, the Korean websites were most sustainable, followed by the English websites, the Canadian websites and the American ones(p<0.05). 5. When the overall quality of the dental office websites was assessed, the Korean websites were the best, followed by the Canadian websites, the American websites and the English ones(p<0.001). Conclusions : In order to make accurate oral health information more accessible to people in general, prolonged research efforts should be continued for the evaluation of the quality of dental office websites, and the development of standard international evaluation criteria is required as well.

  • Background: Little is known about interest in faith-based health promotion programs among Asian American populations. Among the Christian denominations, the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church is known to place a strong doctrinal emphasis on health. Objectives: To understand appropriate ways to develop and implement health promotion programs and to conduct research among Korean American SDAs. Methods: We collaborated with the North American Division of Korean SDA Churches which sponsors annual week-long religious retreats for their church members. We developed and administered a 10-page questionnaire at their 2009 retreat in order to assess socio-demographic and church characteristics, religiosity, perceived relationship between health and religion, and interest and preferences for church-based health promotion programs. Results: Overall, 223 participants completed our survey (123 in Korean and 100 in English). The sample consisted of regular churchgoers who were involved in a variety of helping activities, and many holding leadership positions in their home churches. The vast majority was interested in receiving health information at church (80%) in the form of seminars, cooking classes and workshops (50-60%). Fewer respondents were interested in support groups (27%). Some interests and preferences differed between English and Korean language groups. Conclusion: Korean American SDA church retreat participants from a large geographic area are very interested in receiving health information and promoting health at their churches and can potentially serve as "agents of influence" in their respective communities.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between radiation information sources and major selection satisfaction in radiologic science students of Korean and American. The subjects of this study were first-grade and second-grade at one university in Chungbuk, Korea and one university in Texas, USA. The survey study investigated from May 7, 2019 to May 28, 2019. As a result, first, these college students in both countries used the internet the most as them, but the percentage of information collected through textbooks was significantly higher among American college students. Second, Korean college students had a higher level of reliability in information sources than American college students in the order of internet, newspapers, and social network service (SNS), except government prints. Third, American college students had significantly higher satisfaction in major selection than Korean college students. Fourth, Korean college students were helped to select majors through various information sources, especially, the correlation coefficient between SNS was significantly higher.

  • Physicochemical properties of crystalline-structured buckwheat starches cultivated and harvested in Taiwan, China, Korea, and USA were compared. X-ray diffraction pattern showed that all starches were type A as are most natural starches. Moisture contents of starches were 6.30-9.58%, and crude protein contents of Taiwanese and Chinese buckwheats were higher than those of Korean and American ones, whereas Korean and Chinese buckwheats had higher fat contents. Blue-value of Chinese buckwheat was highest at 0.39 and that of Korean buckwheat was lowest at 0.32. Amylose content of American buckwheat was highest at 27.6 and that of Korean buckwheat was lowest. Highest water-binding capacity was shown in Taiwanese buckwheat and lowest in American one. Higher amylase contents in Chinese and American buckwheats reduced expansion and solubility. Highest values of viscosity measured by RVA, breakdown indicating process stability, and setback closely connected to retrogradation of American buckwheat resulted in relatively hard gel.
