Objective: The aim of this study was to report a clinical case suggesting the potential effects of traditional Korean medicine for the treatment of sporadic spinocerebellar ataxia in a patient with herniated intervertebral lumbar discs. Methods: The patient was treated with a series of Korean medicine treatments including the herbal medicine Zhenganxifeng-tang-gagam, acupuncture, pharmacoacupuncture, and electroacupuncture along with herniated intervertebral lumbar disc treatments. Results: Improvements of Numeric rating scale (NRS) and European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions (EQ-5D) score were observed after the treatment. Conclusion: Traditional Korean medicine has potential benefits for sporadic spinocerebellar ataxia patients with herniated intervertebral lumbar discs.

Objectives : The present study reports seven foot drop patients with herniated intervertebral lumbar disc treated by Muscle Energy Technique and Korean traditional medicine therapy. Methods : Seven foot drop patients with herniated intervertebral lumbar disc were treated by Muscle Energy Rechnique and Korean traditional medicine therapy and were assessed by Manual Muscle Test, numeric rating scale, and oswestry low back pain disability index. Results : Among seven foot drop patients, two cases showed complete recovery, three cases showed recovery over good grade, and two cases showed recovery over good grade after temporary weakness. numeric rating scale and oswestry low back pain disability index of all cases showed improvement. Conclusions : Seven foot drop patients with herniated intervertebral lumbar disc were treated by Muscle Energy Rechnique and Korean traditional medicine therapy and showed improvement. It is anticipated that this report benefits the future in depth study and clinical treatments on the foot drop symptom in korean medicine.

Objective: This study reports the efficacy of using integrative Korean medicine treatments for a patient with facial paralysis and accompanying trigeminal neuralgia. Methods: A 45-year-old male patient with left side facial palsy and facial pain due to Bell's palsy with trigeminal neuralgia was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and cupping for 18 days. The treatment effect was evaluated by measuring the scores for the numerical rating scale (NRS) of facial pain, the House-Brackmann scale, and the Yanagihara scale. Results: After the hospital treatment, the patient's facial pain NRS score was decreased, and the House-Brackmann scale and Yanagihara scale scores improved after the administration of the Korean medicine treatments. Conclusions: The integrative Korean medicine treatments appeared to be effective in treating facial nerve palsy and associated trigeminal neuralgia.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between the hip internal rotation angle and the site of herniation of single level lumbar intervertebral disc. Methods This study was carried out to 418 patients with lumbar disc herniation diagnosed by M.R.I, who visited Bu-Chun Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine with low back pain. Researchers measured their hip internal rotation angle and analyzed the relationship between the hip internal rotation angle and the site of herniation of single level lumbar intervertebral disc. Results 1. Excessive right internal rotation of hip joint increases risk of L5/S1 HIVD. 2. Limited left internal rotation of hip joint decreases risk of L4/L5 HIVD. 3. In cases of L4/L5 HIVD level, there was evidence that the prevalence of HNP in men was 1.85 times as higher than that in women. 4. In cases of L5/S1 HIVD level, there was the evidence that the prevalence of HNP in men was 0.64 times as lower than that in women. Conclusions In single-segment lumbar HIVD patients, limited left internal rotation of hip joint decreases risk of HIVD of L4/5 and excessive right internal rotation of hip joint mainly leads to L5/S1 HIVD.

Objectives This study is planned to classify effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment on lumbar intervertebral Disc herniation patients' fear-avoidance belief. Methods We measured 84 patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation in Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital. We used numeric rating scale, oswestry disability index, fear-avoidance belief questionaire for evaluating effectiveness of oriental medicine treatment on lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. And We used Magentic Resonance Imaging(MRI) for classifying the patient who has lumbar intervertebral disc or not. Results 1. There was statistical effectiveness of korean medicine treatment on lumbar intervertebral disc herniation patients' fear-avoidance belief (p<0.01). ${\Delta}NRS$ and ${\Delta}ODI$ (r=0.587) was Most statistically correlative. ${\Delta}ODI$ and ${\Delta}FABQ$ had a little of statistically correlation (r=0.313). ${\Delta}NRS$ and ${\Delta}FABQ$ has no statistically correlation (r=0.145). Conclusions This study suggests that screening for the korean medicine treatment reduces fears and negative belief of patients with the lumbar disc herniation and prevents chronic physical symptoms that come from them so that it can be a great help to controlling patients' pain clinically.

Objectives : This study sought to identify the Korean medicine treatment satisfaction of 3,000 patients who are 19 or older with experiences of being treated with Korean medicine at Korean medicine clinics or Korean medicine hospitals after experiencing traffic accidents. Methods : Frequency analysis was carried out to identify the effectiveness and satisfaction of Korean medicine services, and independent sample t-test was carried out to compare the satisfaction of users with different characteristics. Lastly, cross analysis(chi-square) was carried out to examine the relation between satisfaction and willingness to recommend. Results : Firstly, 91.3% of the patients were satisfied with the medical services provided at Korean medicine clinics, with the most satisfactory Korean medicine treatments in the order of acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, Korean physical therapy, herbal acupuncture, Chuna manual therapy, herbal medicine, and others. Secondly, 71.3% of the patients answered that outpatient treatment was appropriate while 65.3% of the patients answered that hospitalized treatment was appropriate regarding duration of treatment at Korean medicine clinics, mostly being satisfied with the treatment duration at Korean medicine clinics and Korean medicine hospitals. Thirdly, in a survey on effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment compared to occidental medicine treatment, 85.9% of the patients answered: "the effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment is higher compared to occidental medicine or similar". Conclusion : From the results of this study, it was identified that satisfaction of Korean medicine treatment is high in motor insurance, and that higher satisfaction led to higher willingness to recommend Korean medicine treatment to others. Based on such results, the expansion of the role of Korean medicine could be understood.

Objectives This study aimed to examine the efficacy of Korean traditional medicine treatments for recurrent lumbar disc herniation by analyzing randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Methods The following 6 databases were used Korean studies Information Service System, Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System, Research Information Sharing Service, ScienceON, PubMed, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. Only RCTs were selected. The risk of bias was assessed by Cochrane's risk of bias tool. Results A total of 10 RCTs were analyzed, which utilized 8 types of interventions, including acupuncture, moxibustion, warm needling, electroacupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, and chuna manual therapy. Acupuncture and moxibustion were the most frequently used treatments. There were 7 outcome measures, including the effective rate, visual analog scale, Japanese Orthopedic Association. The effective rate was assessed in all studies. Meta-analysis results indicated that warm needling therapy and traditional Chinese medicine interventions were more effective compared with the control. Conclusions In this study, warm needling therapy and herbal medicine interventions demonstrated beneficial effects. As the meta-analysis was conducted with only a subset of RCT studies, further large-scale, systematic RCT studies are needed.

The purpose of this study is to report the improved case of superior labrum from anterior to posterior tear patient treated with Shinbaro pharmacopuncture and motion style acupuncture treatment. We used Shinbaro pharmacopucture, motion style acupuncture treatment and other korean medicine treatment for this patient. This case is measured and assessed by visual analogue scale (VAS), shoulder range of motion (ROM) and shoulder physical examination (Neer test, O'Brien test). After treatment, VAS decreased and the patient showed improvement of range of motion. Also physical examination of shoulder was improved. Shinbaro pharmacopuncture and motion style acupuncture treatment are thought to be helpful to relieve pain and recover function on shoulder joints, although further study is needed.
