An Eye Toward the Next-Generation Vision of Knowledge Management Systems

  • Ubiquitous computing environment accelerates the advent of the IT Ecosystem. In the coming generation, a massive number of ubiquitous devices and services are converged into an ultra-large-scale system. In this context, high degrees of complexity and organization change the paradigm of knowledge and its management levels. The objective of this paper is to explore the Knowledge Management Systems in view of demands in ultra-large-scale systems. We introduce motivation for Next-Generation (NG) usage and their upcoming requirements. The possible applications will be discussed, and summary of different techniques are conducted. The tools and techniques that allow KMS to operate as "Vital Success Enabler" to achieve organizational benefits will be examined. Potential future directions for research are highlighted: these include advances in knowledge capture, storage / retrieval and sharing techniques, in particular with the surrounding role of information technology.

Initiating Knowledge Management in Colleges and Universities: A template

  • Knowledge Management (KM) is a collaborative and integrated approach adopted at various levels to ensure that an organization's knowledge assets are best utilized to increase organizational performance. While KM has been adopted in a large number of sectors and organizations, colleges and universities, and the higher education sector in general, is yet to take full advantage of the possibilities offered by KM. Also, while past research has sought to highlight the importance of implementing KM in higher education, there is a lack of a single, clear template for KM implementation that universities leaders and administrators can adopt. The contribution of the paper is a practical, actionable, step-by-step plan, as well as a diagrammatic, theoretical framework for initiating KM successfully in colleges and universities.

정보기술이 지식경영활동과 성과에 미치는 효과에 대한 실증분석 (An Empirical Analysis of the Effects of Information Technology on Knowledge Management Activity and Performance)

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the impact that occurs when Korean organizations make practical use of various information technology tools and systems in the knowledge management process, such as sharing, learning and creating knowledge. Such a process is usually made through online and offline knowledge management activities. This paper also verifies how the externalization of tacit knowledge, and the internalization of explicit knowledge via the Internet and offline socialization activities have altered the mechanisms of knowledge transfers inside organizations. For the research, a survey was conducted on the satisfaction and usability levels of information technology, and the impact of IT usage on the results of knowledge management activities and knowledge transfers. 622 Korean organizations were surveyed, including major listed firms and public organizations. The results were examined as an online/offline integration process using SECI's Model proposed by Nonaka (1994, 1995). The analysis shows that information technology satisfaction and the usage of information technology help accelerate the pace of the knowledge flow and amplify the volume of the knowledge transfer by boosting the externalization and internalization processes-also known as knowledge management activities. However. there is no distinct correlation between information technology and socialization, an offline knowledge transferal activity. In particular, the quality of knowledge-an end result of knowledge transfer-does not improve merely by the externalization of online knowledge and instead requires the internalization of knowledge processes. Above all, the research reveals that offline socialization processes vastly contribute to the improvement of knowledge quality. This paper suggests that in order to ensure a transfer of quality knowledge, an organization or a company should focus on the use of information technology rather than the satisfaction level of information technology, and that knowledge transfers via the Internet has limitations in creating high quality of knowledge. For an organization to ensure the transfer of high-quality knowledge, the organization should not entirely hinge the transfer of knowledge online, as it is essential to have an offline method-a form of socialization such as a 'community of practice.'

교사들의 등분제 분수 나눗셈 지식에 관한 연구 (Exploring Teachers' Knowledge of Partitive Fraction Division)

  • 본 정성 연구에서는 교사들의 등분제 분수 나눗셈에 대한 지식을 분석하였다. 자료 수집은 13명의 교사들이 참여한 분수, 소수, 비례 등에 대한 주제를 다룬 40시간의 교사교육 프로그램으로부터 수집되어 일부분이 활용되었으며, 교사들의 등분제 분수 나눗셈 지식을 세밀하게 분석하기 위해 두 가지 지식 요소들 (단위에 대한 지식, 분할 조작)을 분석틀로 사용하였다. 그 결과, 제수와 피제수가 서로소인 등분제 나눗셈 문제 상황을 다루는 능력이 두 지식 요소의 사용여부와 수준에 따라 다르게 나타났다. 두 단계의 단위 구조만을 가지고 추론한 교사의 경우 한 사람의 몫을 주어진 단위로 정확하게 나타낼 수 없었다는 점에서 제한점을 보였으며, 세 단계의 단위 구조를 가지고 추론한 교사는 다양한 분할 조작과 참조 단위의 활용으로 보다 유연하게 문제 상황에 대처할 수 있음을 보여주었다.

Health-Promoting Behaviors, Health Literacy, and Levels of Knowledge about Smoking-Related Diseases among Smokers and Non-smokers: A Cross-Sectional Study

  • Background: For generations, cigarette smoking has presented an important public health concern. This study aimed to compare the health-promoting behavior, exercise capacity, physical activity level, health literacy, and knowledge level of smoking-related diseases between smokers and non-smokers. Methods: The study included 71 smokers (mean age, 32.69±8.55 years) and 72 non-smokers (mean age, 31.88±9.94 years) between the ages of 20 and 60 years. Assessments included a 6-minute walking test (6MWT), Godin Leisure-Time Physical Activity Questionnaire, Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II), Cardiovascular Risk Factors Knowledge Level Scale (CARRF-KL), Asthma/COPD Awareness Questionnaire, the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref questionnaire (WHOQoL-Bref [TR]), and Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLQ). Results: The results from the study show that the number of coronary artery disease risk factors measured significantly higher among the smoker group members when compared to that of the non-smoker group members (p=0.001). Smokers had significantly lower %6MWT distance than non-smokers (84.83±4.72 and 93.45±7.16, respectively; p<0.05). However, there were no significant differences between the smokers and non-smokers in terms of physical activity, CARRF-KL, HLQ, WHOQoL-Bref, and HPLP-II subscales or total scores (p>0.05). Additionally, while only forty-one smokers (57.7%) were active, 48 of the non-smoker group was active (66.7%). Conclusion: Smokers suffer greater negative effects to their exercise capacity in comparison to non-smokers. Although smokers and non-smokers have similar levels of health literacy and similar levels of knowledge about cardiovascular disease risk factors and obstructive lung diseases, health professionals could continue to further increase individuals' awareness of smoking-related risk factors and continue to emphasize the importance of physical activity and exercise for protecting cardiopulmonary health.

경기지역 여대생이 지각한 유방 자가검진의 지식, 자기효능감 및 이행 간의 관계 (Knowledge, Self-Efficacy and Compliance on Breast Self Examination among Female College Students in Gyeonggi Province)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to identify the relationship among knowledge, self-efficacy and compliance behavior on breast self examination(BSE) of female college students'. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with a convenient sample of 499 female college student. Surveyed data collected from May to August 2008 were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The mean score of knowledge and self-efficacy concerning BSE was low, and compliance was high. The levels of knowledge, self-efficacy and compliance were differed significantly by experience of thinking about breast cancer, perceived susceptibility of breast cancer, experience of meeting with breast cancer patient, and educational experience of BSE. Significant correlations were found between knowledge and compliance, knowledge and compliance, knowledge and self-efficacy. Knowledge and self-efficacy were a powerful predictor of compliance. Conclusion: Focus on perceived knowledge, self-efficacy about breast self examination(BSE) of female college students may be beneficial to improve compliance, and should be reflected in the development of effective BSE education program.

인지수준에 따른 마인드 툴 활용이 학업성취도와 학습동기에 미치는 영향 (The influence on learning achievements and motives by using mind tools regarded students' congitive levels)

  • 본 연구에서는 인지수준과 동기적 측면을 동시에 고려한 마인드 툴인 의미망 프로그램이 인지수준에 따른 학업 성취도와 동기에 미치는 효과를 알아보고, 교육현장에 보다 효과적으로 활용되도록 하는데 목적을 두고 수행되었다. 연구 결과 인지수준별 동기 전략을 적용한 마인드 툴을 활용한 수업은 과도기 학생들의 생물 학업성취도를 향상시켰고, 학습 내용에 시각적인 효과를 보여줌으로써 학생들의 인지구조에 새로운 지식을 효과적으로 연결시켜 주의집중과 자신감을 높일 수 있었다. 또한 형식적 조작기 학생들 보다 과도기 학생들의 의미망 형성에 더 효과적인 것으로 나타났고, 학습내용이 구조지식으로 조직화되어 학습내용의 파지에 효과적이었다.

조리 종사원의 위생 지식과 위생 관리 수행도간의 관계에서 위생 교육의 조절 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on Moderating Effect of Sanitation Education in Relationship between Sanitation Knowledge and Sanitation Management Performance of Culinary Employees)

  • 본 연구는 국내 단체급식의 위생 및 식품안전에 질적 향상을 위해 단체급식 조리 종사원의 위생 지식 정도를 알아보고 이러한 조리 종사원의 위생 지식이 위생 관리 수행도에 미치는 영향 관계를 알아보고자 하였다. 아울러 위생 지식과 위생 관리 수행도의 관계에서 위생 교육의 필요성, 이해도, 만족도, 적용도의 조절 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구는 대구 경북 지역의 36개소 단체급식소(중 고등학교, 대학교, 기업체, 병원) 등의 각 업체마다 100부의 설문지를 각각 배포하였고, 361부가 최종분석에 사용되었다. 그 결과, 조리 종사원의 위생 지식은 개인 위생 지식이 가장 높은 것으로 나타났고, 위생 지식과 위생 관리 수행도 간은 유의한 영향 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 개인 위생 지식이 위생 관리 수행도에 미치는 영향 관계에서 위생 교육의 필요성은 긍정적인 조절 효과를 보였다. 하지만, 위생 교육의 이해도, 만족도, 적용도는 유의한 조절 효과를 보이지 않았다. 그렇지만, 개인 위생 지식을 제외한 식품 보관 지식, 식품 취급 지식, 기기 및 기구 취급 지식이 위생 관리 수행도에 미치는 영향 관계에서는 4개 조절변수가 유의한 조절 효과를 보였다.

증강현실을 활용한 소집단 학습에서 나타나는 중학생의 지식 형성 담화 유형과 지식 형성 과정 탐색 (An Exploration for Types of Knowledge Building Discourse and Knowledge Building Processes in Middle School Students' Small Group Learning Using Augmented Reality)

  • 이 연구에서는 증강현실을 활용한 소집단 학습에서 나타나는 중학생의 지식 형성 담화의 유형과 지식 형성 과정을 탐색하였다. 서울시 소재의 남녀공학 중학교 2학년 학생 8명이 증강현실을 활용하여 용해도 개념, 끓는점과 녹는점 개념에 대한 소집단 학습에 참여하였다. 수업은 2차시에 걸쳐 이루어졌으며 모두 녹음 및 녹화하였다. 이후, 연구에 참여한 학생들은 반구조화된 면담에 참여하였다. 지식 형성 담화의 유형에서 지식 공유와 지식 구성의 비율은 비슷하게 나타났다. 지식 공유에서는 기초 수준의 토의, 증강현실의 핵심 요소 확인의 순으로 나타났고, 사전 지식의 회상은 거의 나타나지 않았다. 지식 구성에서는 심화 수준의 토의가 가장 높았고, 그다음으로 다른 수준에서의 공유 및 비판과 현재의 설명 수준을 넘어서려는 노력이 나타났으며, 두 요소의 비율은 유사하였다. 지식 공유의 하위 요소인 기초 수준의 토의와 증강현실의 핵심 요소 확인은 지식 구성의 하위 요소인 현재의 설명 수준을 넘어서려는 노력과 다른 수준에서의 공유 및 비판으로 발전되어 나타났다. 지식 형성 과정을 시각화했을 때, 모든 학생의 누적 영향 값 그래프는 우상향하는 형태로 나타났지만, 소집단별로 두 학생의 누적 영향 값은 차이가 나타나는 경우가 있었다. 이상의 연구 결과를 통해 증강현실을 활용한 중학생의 소집단 학습 촉진 방안을 제시하였다.

영양상담이 제2형 당뇨병 환자의 혈당과 식사요법에 대한 지식과 실천에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Nutrition Counseling on Diabetes Management in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of nutrition counseling on diabetes management by determining changes in anthropometry and blood components as well as knowledge and practice of diet therapy and nutrient intake in 34 (male 11, female 23) type 2 diabetes patients. The knowledge and the practice of diet therapy, drinking, smoking and exercise were analyzed by questionnaires. Dietary nutrient intake were obtained from the patients by the 1 day 24-hr recall. Blood glucose level and blood pressure were measured before and 3 months after the treatment. The results are summarized as follows: Average weight (p<0.05) and body mass index (p<0.05) were significantly lower post-counseling. Fasting blood glucose levels (p<0.01) and postprandial-2hour blood glucose levels (p<0.01) were also significantly lower post-counseling. In lifestyle changes for self-management the patients showed significantly higher exercise habits post-counseling (p<0.01). Regarding their level of diet knowledge, they showed significantly higher levels post-counseling in six items such as importance of diet therapy for diabetes (p<0.001), principles of diet therapy (p<0.001), nutrient composition of foods (p<0.01), carbohydrate composition of foods (p<0.001), the prescribed calories (p<0.001) understanding food item and exchange units of cereals, grains (p<0.001) and fruits, juices (p<0.001). Regarding their diet practices, the patients showed significantly higher levels of practice post-counseling in keeping within permitted meal size (p<0.001), using food exchange lists (p<0.001), keeping exact meal times (p<0.01), and controling sweet foods (p<0.001). Protein (p<0.05), animal lipid (p<0.05), and vitamin C (p<0.05) intakes were significantly higher post-counseling.
