The rainfall characteristics such as heavy rains are changing differently from the past, and uncertainties are also greatly increasing due to climate change. In addition, urban development and population concentration are aggravating flood damage. Since the causes of urban inundation are generally complex, it is very important to establish an appropriate flood prevention plan. Thus, the government in Korea is establishing standards for disaster prevention performance for each local government. Since the concept of the disaster prevention performance target was first presented in 2010, the setting standards have changed several times, but the overall technology, methodology, and procedures have been maintained. Therefore, in this study, studies and technologies related to urban disaster prevention performance were reviewed using the scientometric analysis method to review them. This analysis is a method of identifying trends in the field and deriving new knowledge and information based on data such as papers and literature. In this study, papers related to the disaster prevention performance of the Web of Science for the last 30 years from 1990 to 2021 were collected. Citespace, scientometric software, was used to identify authors, research institutes, countries, and research trends, including citation analysis. As a result of the analysis, consideration factors such as the the concept of asset evaluation were identified when making decisions related to urban disaster prevention performance. In the future, it is expected that prevention performance standards and procedures can be upgraded if the keywords are specified and the review of each technology is conducted.
As childhood obesity and nutrition imbalance emerge as social issues in South Korea today, the development of education materials on diets and nutrition has become important and has been attempted in diverse ways. The present study was conducted on early elementary school students with the objective of establishing directions for the design of personalized nutrition education materials that can promote a proper, balanced diet for children through application in daily life of knowledge acquired from self-learning linked to nutrition education that is taking place in their schools. For this purpose, a review of previous theoretical literature on nutrition education for early elementary students was performed. Survey questions were formulated based on the advice of field experts in medicine, education, and design and the survey was conducted among 110 children from 1st and 2nd grade in two elementary schools, one in Seoul and the other in Changwon. The results obtained from the user evaluation suggested that the early elementary school students showed positive reaction to nutrition education, had preference for the type of learning using multimedia-based contents and quiz activities, were willing to learn about calorie-adjusted meals, preferred the Gothic typeface and orange and green colors. Furthermore, they showed positive opinion on the use of numerical surveying method and pictorial style similar to actual appearance in connection with nutrition-related information representation. and preferences regarding learning styles and design elements

This study aims to explain the key concepts and principles of text-based generative artificial intelligence (AI) that has been receiving increasing interest and utilization, focusing on its application in science education. It also highlights the potential and limitations of utilizing generative AI in science education, providing insights for its implementation and research aspects. Recent advancements in generative AI, predominantly based on transformer models consisting of encoders and decoders, have shown remarkable progress through optimization of reinforcement learning and reward models using human feedback, as well as understanding context. Particularly, it can perform various functions such as writing, summarizing, keyword extraction, evaluation, and feedback based on the ability to understand various user questions and intents. It also offers practical utility in diagnosing learners and structuring educational content based on provided examples by educators. However, it is necessary to examine the concerns regarding the limitations of generative AI, including the potential for conveying inaccurate facts or knowledge, bias resulting from overconfidence, and uncertainties regarding its impact on user attitudes or emotions. Moreover, the responses provided by generative AI are probabilistic based on response data from many individuals, which raises concerns about limiting insightful and innovative thinking that may offer different perspectives or ideas. In light of these considerations, this study provides practical suggestions for the positive utilization of AI in science education.

In this study, we explored science teachers' perceptions of adaptive practice in terms of importance and practice. For this purpose, an adaptive practice questionnaire was developed targeting secondary science teachers, and the responses of 128 science teachers were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows: First, the science teachers responded that all 17 items regarding adaptive practice were important. In particular, items related to 'addition of examples', 'adjustment of the level/range of concepts', and 'encouragement of student participation' showed high importance and performance levels. Second, the results of the IPA concerning adaptive practice showed that the items needing intensive improvement due to high importance but low performance were 'encouraging students' self-directed learning' and 'monitoring and responding to individual differences'. The science teachers identified a lack of time and uniform curriculum as the reasons for the low level of practice despite the high importance of these items. Third, regarding the IPA of the adaptive practice items, the items located in the fourth area, an excessive area, concerned 'pace control', 'modifying activities', and 'metaphor use'. More specifically, considering that 'metaphor use' was the only item with a higher level of performance than importance, it is necessary to reconsider whether problems are caused by excessive use. Fourth, analyzing the responses regarding the reasons for the difference in importance and performance revealed that the factors related to teachers included teachers' lack of knowledge or ability, and the tendency to implement as planned. As for student factors, an excessive number of students, differences in the levels of students, and a tendency to prefer classes centered on entrance exams were identified. As environmental factors, a uniform curriculum, conditions for experiments, evaluation systems, and external demands were mentioned. Finally, the implications of the results of this study for science education were discussed.

The purpose of this study is to design textbook metadata as a basic task for building a textbook database. To this end, reading textbooks were defined as a category of textbooks, and a metadata development methodology was established through previous research. In order to ensure that bibliographically essential elements are not omitted, the catalog description elements of institutions that collect, accumulate, and service textbooks such as the National Library of Korea were investigated. The elements of Dublin Core, MODS, and KEM were mapped to derive elements suitable for describing textbooks. Finally, a set of textbook metadata elements consisting of 14 elements in three categories - bibliography, context, and textbook characteristics were presented by adding publication type, genre, and curriculum period elements. The 14 elements are titles, authors, publications, formats, identification sign, languages, locations, subject names, annotation, genres, table of contents, subjects, curriculum period, and curriculum information. In this study, we contributed to this field by discussing how to organize textbook resources with national knowledge resources, and in future studies, we proposed to evaluate usability by applying metadata elements to actual textbooks and revise and supplement them according to the evaluation results.
Recently, as the environment of the 4th industrial revolution has arrived, the opening, sharing and convergence of data are actively being achieved in any organization. However, the opening and sharing of data inevitably leads to security vulnerability and there is ambivalence that is a threat that can affect the existence of an organization operated in the 4th industrial revolution environment. Especially security issues in the organization of the military can be a threat to the state, not the military itself, so it is always necessary to maintain a high level of security discipline. In this paper, 14 variables were selected through structural equation model applying theory of planned behavior, deterrence and protection motivation to find out the security level development measures by extracting factors that can affect security level. As a result, the theory of planned behavior that the security knowledge embodied through the usual security regulation education and evaluation affects the behavior was adopted, and the theory of deterrence and protection motivation showed the significance of the rejection level. In addition, it was confirmed that the variables that have the greatest impact on the military security level through the measured values of the three-year security audit were commanders and mental security. In conclusion, in order to improve the security level, it is suggested that security education, definite reward and punishment, and security system upgrading should be firmly established and mental security posture should be secured.

The navigational officer's knowledge about securing stability, an essential factor for promoting the safe operation of ships, should be improved along with advancement in ship technology, such as the large-sized ships and the appearance of autonomous ships. Accordingly, this study conducted a survey on stability, targeting navigational officers, and analyzed empirical awareness using general characteristics. Navigational officers had a high level of understanding of the stability criteria for a higher rank, but lacked the understanding of the special criteria for specific ship types. Of the total respondents, 87.6% were using a loading computer to evaluate stability. The GM scored the highest (3.891/5.000 points) as a method of evaluating stability on the ship. Further, whether the stability was secured was determined based on the GM and stability criteria. Most navigational officers replenish additional ballast water to improve the stability and use a small angle of rudder in the case of lacking stability. The results of this study are intended to be used as important data for improving education and research on operator-centered stability in the future by evaluating the empirical awareness of navigational officers on the ship stability.
In recent years, university education has emphasized a learner-centered education model with a change in educational paradigm. This study aims to explore students' diverse opinions and improve the quality of education by analyzing the open-ended responses of university lecture evaluations using topic modeling. To this end, a total of 45,001 open-ended responses based on the results of lecture evaluations from 2017 to 2022 in non-metropolitan universities were divided into majors and liberal arts, and a short-form optimized Biterm Topic Modeling (BTM) analysis was conducted. As a result of the analysis, major lectures were divided into "attitude toward non-face-to-face classroom experience", "attitude toward questions and discussions", "attitude toward attendance and grading", "attitude toward practical activities and presentations", and "attitude toward communication and collaboration", while liberal arts lectures were divided into "attitude toward non-face-to-face classroom experience", "attitude toward grades and evaluations", "attitude toward attendance and syllabus", "attitude toward academic knowledge and interest", and "attitude toward communication and questions". The results of this study, which analyzed various feedback from students, provide insights that can be used to compare the characteristics of majors and liberal arts courses and improve teaching and learning experiences.
In this study, the interplay between models and theories was explored through a series of focus group discussions (FGDs) involving five experts in science education. The FGDs were held seven times, beginning with the question of what is modeling in relation to models, which is a current area of research in science education. Throughout the discussion, several key issues regarding models and modeling were addressed, with a particular emphasis on their relationship to theory. A notable finding from this study is that the participants' discussions did not converge into a single viewpoint regarding the relationship between theory and models; instead, multiple related issues emerged, leading to attempts to reframe existing concepts and seek new understanding. The study findings relate to three main areas of inquiry: What is the meaning of models or modeling? What is the nature of the relationship between models and theories?, and Is modeling possible without a foundation in theory? Particularly, the relationship between models and theories was discussed in reference to the following points: 1) Is a model to be understood as derived from theory, and is modeling the application of theory to phenomena? 2) Can a model be inferred from theory? 3) Does modeling originate from a specific, structured foundational theory (a framework of empirical knowledge), or is it to be understood through the integration of various resources without explicit reference to a foundational theory? Based on the study outcomes, implications are presented for philosophy of science and for researchers and educators working in the realm of science education.
In this study, a new triplex real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (tqRT-PCR) assay was developed for the rapid and differential detection of three feline viral pathogens including feline calicivirus (FCV), feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV-1), and influenza A virus (IAV) in a single reaction. The assay specifically amplified three targeted viral genes with a detection limit of below 10 copies/reaction. The assay showed high repeatability and reproducibility, with intra- and inter-assay coefficients of variation of less than 1%. Based on the diagnostic results of the assay using 120 clinical samples obtained from cats with feline respiratory disease complex (FRDC)-suspected signs, the prevalence of FCV, FHV-1, or IAV was 43.3%, 22.5%, or 0%, respectively, indicating that the diagnostic sensitivity was comparable or superior to those of previously reported monoplex qRT-PCR/qPCR assays. The dual infection rate for FCV and FHV-1 was 8.3%. These results indicate that FCV and FHV-1 are widespread and that co-infection with FCV and FHV-1 frequently occur in the Korean cat population. The developed tqRT-PCR assay will serve as a promising tool for etiological and epidemiological studies of these three bacterial pathogens, and the prevalence data for three feline viruses obtained in this study will contribute to expanding knowledge about the epidemiology of FRDC in the current Korean cat population.
