  • The purpose of the study is to develop an integrated knowledge management system for the domains of genome and nano-technology, in which terminology-based literature mining, knowledge acquisition, knowledge structuring, and knowledge retrieval are combined. The system supports integrating different types of databases (papers and patents, technologies and innovations) and retrieving different types of knowledge simultaneously. The main objective of the system is to facilitate knowledge acquisition from documents and new knowledge discovery through a terminology-based similarity calculation and a visualization of automatically structured knowledge. Implementation issue of the system is also mentioned.

  • A number of research issues such as knowledge acquisition, inferencing techniques, and knowledge refinement methodologies have been involved in the development of expert systems. Since each issue is considered very com- plicated, there has been little effort to take all the issues into account collectively at once. However, knowledge acquisition and inferencing are closely reated because the knowledge is extracted by human experts from the inferencing process for solving a specific task or problem. Knowledge refinement is also accomplished by hand-ling problems caused during the inferencing process of the system due to incompleteness and inconsistency of the knowledge base. From this perspecitive, we present a method by which software platform is established in which those issues are integrated in the development of expert systems, especially in the domain where the domain models and concepts are hard to be constructed because of inherent fuzziness of the domain. We apply a machine learning technique, technique, conceptual clustering,to build a knowledge base and rual models by which an efficient inferencing, incermental knp\owledge acquisition and refinment are possible.

  • For the purpose of building the more efficient knowledge learning system, it is very important to make a good structure of the knowledge system first of all. The well designed knowledge system can make the stored knowledge to be easily accessed for knowledge acquisition and extraction. Expert knowledge can also play a good role for controlling. Accordingly, in this paper we propose the Hierarchical modular system with expert knowledge gating mechanism. This system consists of the mechanisms for knowledge acquisition, constructing the associative memory, knowledge inference and extraction according to the expert knowledge gating mechanism. We applied this system to the medical diagnostic area for classifying Virus(coxackie virus, echovirus, cold), Rhinitis(Nonallergic, allergic) and tested with symptom data

  • Although merger and acquisition (M&A) has been considered as an important means to improve firm performance, most prior empirical research have failed to prove the relationship between M&A and firm performance. In order to fill this gap, this study attempts to identify the effect of M&A on firm performance based on knowledge resources relatedness and complementarity theory. For this purpose, this study examines complementarity patterns of knowledge resources and their impacts on acquirer's performance using M&A announcements of electronic commerce industry from 2001 to 2007. The results of this study indicate complementarity among knowledge resources are positively related with acquirer's market value. This study contributes to expand knowledge management research by identifying the relationship among knowledge resources and their impacts on firm performance.

  • This study is to comparate on impact factors and moderator of incentives of knowledge transfer between Nonprofit and Profit organization. In nonprofit organization, the results founded that individual information capability, quality of knowledge, and quality of construct were statistically significant in knowledge acquisition, informal communication and quality of construct were statistically significant knowledge sharing, and individual information capability, informal communication, quality of knowledge and quality of construct were statistically significant knowledge use. Also interactive effect of knowledge sharing and Psychological Physical incentive was statistically significant knowledge use. In profit organization, the results founded that individual information capability, informal communication, quality of knowledge, and quality of construct were statistically significant in knowledge acquisition, quality of knowledge and quality of construct were statistically significant knowledge sharing, and individual information capability, informal communication, and formal communication were statistically significant knowledge use. Also interactive effect of knowledge acquisition and Psychological Physical incentive was statistically significant knowledge use.

  • This paper reviewed the two proposed hypotheses. The first hypothesis is to test the relationship between knowledge management and incremental innovation, and the second hypothesis is to test the moderating effect of firm-size on that relationship. Data were gathered from 434 employees in service industry, and multiple regression analysis was used to test two proposed hypotheses. In the first hypothesis, it was appeared that knowledge acquisition and knowledge transfer have positive effects on all incremental innovation factors (process innovation, operation innovation, service innovation). In the second hypothesis, it was appeared that firm-size has an positive interaction effect on incremental innovation in knowledge transfer, but not in knowledge acquisition. It means that knowledge transfer has more positive effect on incremental innovation in large firm-size than in small firm-size.

  • This paper reviewed the relationship between information technology system and knowledge management activities, and the moderating effect of industrial type. The results of multiple regression analysis, based on the responses from 219 employees in manufacturing and financing service sector, showed that information technology infrastructure and information technology usage have positive effects on knowledge acquisition, knowledge transfer, and knowledge usage. In moderating effects, information technology infrastructure more positively related with knowledge acquisition in financing service sector than in manufacturing sector. And also information technology usage more positively related with knowledge transfer in financing service sector than in manufacturing sector.

  • The information technologies industry is now experiencing a rebirth of strong stable growth. However, very few studies have examined performance implications of strategic alliance or merger and acquisition from a knowledge-based view. Furthermore, none of these studies have investigated resource complementarities and alliance or merger and acquisition motive as potential sources of firm performance. This paper extends upon current knowledge-based literature to discover and explore linkages between resource complementarities and firm performance of strategic alliances or merger acquisitions. This study finds that strategic alliance and merger and acquisition announcements have provided abnormal positive returns of production alliances and merger and acquisition. This study can be used as a stepping stone for selection of strategic alliance or merger and acquisition.

  • With the rapid changes of business environments and the tremendous amount of information generated from those environments, most companies must learn to manage those changes and information more effectively. Furthermore, within those amounts of information, the information that meets with achieving the goal of each company should be selected and managed as a core competency, i.e. the knowledge, visible and invisible assets of the company. Knowledge management, as a tool of creating, sharing, and applying such knowledge, has pursued those requirements of companies and been studied by many researchers and consultants, especially focusing on the Knowledge Map'. It is said that a knowledge map is a powerful tool for scanning and managing the knowledge that exists in a company and that it is the most important part of establishing a knowledge management base. Until now, however, there have been no specific or practical models for establishing a knowledge map, in spite of the concern. For this reason, this paper suggests a practical model for establishing a knowledge map in terms of a knowledge acquisition procedure based on the traditional research concerning concept maps. In addition to this, for examining the validity of the model, a case study on the 'P' steel and iron company has been performed. This paper's methodology on developing a knowledge map and the procedures to apply them to the real business environment will suggest a cornerstone in the field of practical implementation of knowledge management.
