In outsourced databases, the cloud provides an authorized user with querying services on the outsourced database. However, sensitive data, such as financial or medical records, should be encrypted before being outsourced to the cloud. Meanwhile, k-Nearest Neighbor (kNN) query is the typical query type which is widely used in many fields and the result of the kNN query is closely related to the interest and preference of the user. Therefore, studies on secure kNN query processing algorithms that preserve both the data privacy and the query privacy have been proposed. However, existing algorithms either suffer from high computation cost or leak data access patterns because retrieved index nodes and query results are disclosed. To solve these problems, in this paper we propose a new kNN query processing algorithm on the encrypted database. Our algorithm preserves both data privacy and query privacy. It also hides data access patterns while supporting efficient query processing. To achieve this, we devise an encrypted index search scheme which can perform data filtering without revealing data access patterns. Through the performance analysis, we verify that our proposed algorithm shows better performance than the existing algorithms in terms of query processing times.
With the development of location aware technologies and mobile devices, location-based services have been studied. To provide location-based services, many researchers proposed methods for processing various query types with Mapreduce(MR). One of the proposed methods, is a Reverse k-nearest neighbor(RkNN) query processing method with MR. However, the existing methods spend too much cost to process the continuous RkNN query. In this paper, we propose an efficient continuous RkNN query processing method with MR to resolve the problems of the existing methods. The proposed method uses the 60-degree-pruning method. The proposed method does not need to reprocess the query for continuous query processing because the proposed method draws and monitors the monitoring area including the candidate objects of a RkNN query. In order to show the superiority of the proposed method, we compare it with the query processing performance of the existing method.

Some previous works for nearest neighbor (NN) query processing technique can treat a case that query/data are both moving objects. However, they cannot find exact result owing to vagueness of criterion. In order to escape their limitations and get exact result, we propose new NN query techniques, exact CTNN (continuous trajectory NN) query, approximate CTNN query, and dynamic CTNN query. These are all superior to pervious works, by reducing of number of calculation, considering of trajectory information, and using of continuous query concept. Using these techniques, we can solve any situations and types of NN query in location-aware environment.

When user wants to find objects which have the nearest position from him, we use the nearest neighbor (NN) query. The GIS applications, such as navigation system and traffic control system, require processing of NN query for moving objects (MOs). MOs have trajectory with changing their position over time. Therefore, we should be able to find NN object continuously changing over the whole query time when process NN query for MOs, as well as moving nearby on trajectory of query. However, none of previous works consider trajectory information between objects. Therefore, we propose a method of continuous NN query for trajectory of MOs. We call this CTNN (continuous trajectory NN) technique. It ran find constantly valid NN object on the whole query time by considering of trajectory information.
MapReduce provides high levels of system scalability and fault tolerance for large-size data processing. A MapReduce-based k-nearest-neighbor(k-NN) join algorithm seeks to produce the k nearest-neighbors of each point of a dataset from another dataset. The algorithm has been considered important in bigdata analysis. However, the existing k-NN join query-processing algorithm suffers from a high index-construction cost that makes it unsuitable for the processing of bigdata. To solve the corresponding problems, we propose a new grid-based, k-NN join query-processing algorithm. Our algorithm retrieves only the neighboring data from a query cell and sends them to each MapReduce task, making it possible to improve the overhead data transmission and computation. Our performance analysis shows that our algorithm outperforms the existing scheme by up to seven-fold in terms of the query-processing time, while also achieving high extent of query-result accuracy.
Recently, the amount of data is rapidly increasing with the popularity of the SNS and the development of mobile technology. So, it has been actively studied for the effective data analysis schemes of the large amounts of data. One of the typical schemes is a Voronoi diagram based on kNN join algorithm (VkNN-join) using MapReduce. For two datasets R and S, VkNN-join can reduce the time of the join query processing involving big data because it selects the corresponding subset Sj for each Ri and processes the query with them. However, VkNN-join requires a high computational cost for constructing the Voronoi diagram. Moreover, the computational overhead of the VkNN-join is high because the number of the candidate cells increases as the value of the k increases. In order to solve these problems, we propose a MapReduce-based kNN-join query processing algorithm for analyzing the large amounts of data. Using the seed-based dynamic partitioning, our algorithm can reduce the overhead for constructing the index structure. Also, it can reduce the computational overhead to find the candidate partitions by selecting corresponding partitions with the average distance between two seeds. We show that our algorithm has better performance than the existing scheme in terms of the query processing time.

Recently, k-nearest neighbors query methods based on wireless broadcasting environment are actively studied. The advantage of wireless broadcasting environment is the scalability that enables collective query processing for unspecified users connected to the server. However, in case existing k-NN query is applied in wireless broadcasting environment, there can be a disadvantage that backtracking may occur and consequently the query processing time is increasing. In this paper proposes a hierarchical bitmap-based spatial index in order to efficiently process the k-NN queries in wireless broadcasting environment. HBI reduces the bitmap size using such bitmap information and tree structure. As a result, reducing the broadcast cycle can reduce the client's tuning time and query processing time. In addition, since the locations of all the objects can be detected using bitmap information, it is possible to tune to necessary data selectively. For this paper, a test was conducted implementing HBI to k-NN query and the proposed technique was proved to be excellent by a performance evaluation.
The Voronoi diagram (VD) is the most suitable mechanism to find the nearest neighbor (NN) for mobile clients. In NN query processing, it is important to reduce the query response time, since a late query response may contain out-of-date information. In this paper, we study the issue of location dependent information services (LDISs) using a VD. To begin our study, we first introduce a broadcast-based spatial query processing methods designed to support NN query processing. In further sections, we introduce a generic method for location-dependent sequential prefetching and caching. The performance of this scheme is studied in different simulated environments. The core contribution of this research resides in our analytical proof and experimental results.
With the growing popularity of smart devices, various location based services have been providing to users. Recently, some location based social applications that combine social services and location based services have been emerged. The demands of a k-nearest neighbors(k-NN) query which finds k closest locations from a user location are increased in the location based social network services. In this paper, we propose an approximate k-NN query processing method for fast response time in a large number of users environments. The proposed method performs efficient stream processing using big data distributed processing technologies. In this paper, we also propose a modified grid index method for indexing a large amount of location data. The proposed query processing method first retrieves the related cells by considering a user movement. By doing so, it can make an approximate k results set. In order to show the superiority of the proposed method, we conduct various performance evaluations with the existing method.
In this paper, we propose an optimization scheme for a k-Nearest Neighbor(k-NN) query, which finds k objects closest to the query in the high dimensional feature vectors. The k-NN query is converted and processed into a range query based on the range that is likely to contain k data. In this paper, we propose an optimization scheme using DNN model to derive an optimal range that can reduce processing cost and accelerate search speed. The entire system of the proposed scheme is composed of online and offline modules. In the online module, a query is actually processed when it is issued from a client. In the offline module, an optimal range is derived for the query by using the DNN model and is delivered to the online module. It is shown through various performance evaluations that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes.
