  • Background: Although many clinicians know about the reducing effects of the pulsed and low-dose modes for fluoroscopic radiation when performing interventional procedures, few studies have quantified the reduction of radiation-absorbed doses (RADs). The aim of this study is to compare how much the RADs from a fluoroscopy are reduced according to the C-arm fluoroscopic modes used. Methods: We measured the RADs in the C-arm fluoroscopic modes including 'conventional mode', 'pulsed mode', 'low-dose mode', and 'pulsed + low-dose mode'. Clinical imaging conditions were simulated using a lead apron instead of a patient. According to each mode, one experimenter radiographed the lead apron, which was on the table, consecutively 5 times on the AP views. We regarded this as one set and a total of 10 sets were done according to each mode. Cumulative exposure time, RADs, peak X-ray energy, and current, which were viewed on the monitor, were recorded. Results: Pulsed, low-dose, and pulsed + low-dose modes showed significantly decreased RADs by 32%, 57%, and 83% compared to the conventional mode. The mean cumulative exposure time was significantly lower in the pulsed and pulsed + low-dose modes than in the conventional mode. All modes had pretty much the same peak X-ray energy. The mean current was significantly lower in the low-dose and pulsed + low-dose modes than in the conventional mode. Conclusions: The use of the pulsed and low-dose modes together significantly reduced the RADs compared to the conventional mode. Therefore, the proper use of the fluoroscopy and its C-arm modes will reduce the radiation exposure of patients and clinicians.

  • Three modes of VIS/NIR spectroscopic measurement (interactance and two modes of transmission) were compared for their ability to estimate soluble solids content (SSC) of 'Shingo' pear non-destructively. The two transmission modes are named as full- and semi-transmission, where full-transmission stands for passing of light through abdomen of pear and semi-transmission is for transit of light mainly through flesh of pear. For comparison of the modes, prediction models developed from the collected spectroscopic data by the three modes were developed and tested for comparison of their performance. Partial least square regression (PSLR) was used to develop the models and various pre-processing methods were applied to develop models of high accuracy. The experiment was repeated three times with pears produced in different regions. The experiments resulted that selection of pre-processing is very important to attain accurate models, and multiplicative scatter correction (MSC) was selected as a pre-processor of high accuracy for the three modes of spectroscopic measurement in every experiment. Except for MSC, different group of pre-processing methods were selected for the three modes of measurement in every experiment without any tendency to the tested modes of measurement and pears of different produced region. Root-mean-square error of prediction (RMSEP) of prediction models of the three modes of measurement using prepreocessor of MSC were compared for their ability to estimate SSC. The models resulted in ranges of $0.37{\sim}0.57^{\circ}Brix$, $0.65{\sim}0.72^{\circ}Brix$, $0.39{\sim}0.51^{\circ}Brix$ for interactance, full- and semi-transmission, respectively. As shown, modes of semi-transmission and interactance resulted about the same level of prediction accuracy and were noted as modes of high performance to predict SSC.

  • Critical loads and load-carrying capacities for steel scaffolds used as shoring systems were compared using computational and experimental methods in Part I of this paper. In that paper, a simple 2-D model was established for use in evaluating the structural behavior of scaffold-shoring systems. This 2-D model was derived using an incremental finite element analysis (FEA) of a typical complete scaffold-shoring system. Although the simplified model is only two-dimensional, it predicts the critical loads and failure modes of the complete system. The objective of this paper is to present a closed-form solution to the 2-D model. To simplify the analysis, a simpler model was first established to replace the 2-D model. Then, a closed-form solution for the critical loads and failure modes based on this simplified model were derived using a bifurcation (eigenvalue) approach to the elastic-buckling problem. In this closed-form equation, the critical loads are shown to be function of the number of stories, material properties, and section properties of the scaffolds. The critical loads and failure modes obtained from the analytical (closed-form) solution were compared with the results from the 2-D model. The comparisons show that the critical loads from the analytical solution (simplified model) closely match the results from the more complex model, and that the predicted failure modes are nearly identical.

  • As heat pump application has been extending to residential, commercial, and industrial fields, the heat pump should have many operation modes. It is required to optimize refrigerant charge amount at all operation modes in order to enhance the annual performance of heat pumps. In this study, the performance analysis of the heat pump which has cooling, heating, cooling-hot water, heating-hot water, and hot water modes was executed with the variation of refrigerant charge amount. As the refrigerant charge amount changed, the maximum COPs of the heat pump at different operation modes were changed within ${\pm}10%$. Therefore, it is highly recommended to select optimum charge amount for the heat pump based on the analysis of annual load for each operation modes.

  • Purpose - This present aims to analyze the effect of export modes on initial export amount and time to export by selecting export modes among various success strategies and factors. Research design, data, and methodology - It surveyed 980 small and mid-sized venture enterprises across Korea. The export modes and its impact on exports through frequency analysis and cross analysis, and validated through a PPML(regression analysis applied the enterprise growth model) analysis. Results - Five export modes were investigated : direct export, indirect export, transfer from direct export to indirect export, transfer from direct export to indirect export, and parallel export to indirect export. It was found that SMVEs that exported directly from establishment to initial export had the shortest period, and also had the highest export price Conclusions - From a marketing point of view, it took an average of 1.6 years to switch from export directly to indirect export or directly export, and the reason for the export modes conversion was to supplement export specialists and improve export competitiveness. And the export amount and time period that SMVEs establishes and export is a significant factor in export success strategy and there has been few prior study in export modes.

  • The UHF electromagnetic waves excited by PD pulses propagate along the GIS busbar not only TEM mode, but also TE and TM mode. Generally the waves detected by the UHF sensors are those of high order modes and such waves can only propagate the higher than cut-off frequency. In this paper, computed cut-off frequency of 362[kV] GIS by each modes and simulated electromagnetic field of each propagation modes by FEM(Finite Element Method) program. Frequency band of each TEmn/TMmn modes were determinated by simulation results and were discussed optimal position of UHF sensor from this results.

  • The sensitivities of eigenvalues to the change of element thickness have been calculated for beams in the paper. For a cantilever beam the sensitivities fluctuate more for higher modes. When the thickness of the element near the fixed end increases, the eigenvalues for all modes increase. On the other hand, increasing of the thickness of the element at the tip decreases the eigenvalues for all modes. For a simply supported beam the sensitivities fluctuate more for higher modes, which is the same phenomenon as for a cantilever beam. The sensitivities are always positive for all modes

  • An analytical study is presented on the hydroelastic vibration of two rectangular identical plates coupled with a bounded fluid by using the finite Fourier series expansion method. It is observed that the two contrastive modes, the so called the out-of-phase and in-phase modes. All natural frequency of the in-phase modes can be predicted well by the combination of the beam modes in the air, but the natural frequency of the out-of-phase mode cannot be estimated precisely. • We propose a triangular-multicore hollow optical fiber (TMC-HOF) design for uncoupled mode-division and space-division multiplexing. The TMC-HOF has three triangular cores, and each core has three modes: $LP_{01}$ and two split $LP_{11}$ modes. The asymmetric structure of the triangular core can split the $LP_{11}$ modes. Using the proposed structures, nine independent modes can propagate in a fiber. We use a fully vectorial finite-element method to estimate effective index, chromatic dispersion, differential group delay (DGD), and confinement loss by controlling the parameters of the TMC-HOF structure. We confirm that the proposed TMC-HOF shows flattened chromatic dispersion, low DGD, low confinement loss, low core-to-core crosstalk, and low crosstalk between adjacent modes. The proposed TMC-HOF can provide a common platform for MDM and SDM applications.

  • The objective of this paper is to apply a new proposed accuracy indicator to quantify the true and false modes for Eigensystem Realization Algorithm using output-based responses. First, a discrete mass-spring system and a simply supported continuous beam were modelled using finite element method. Then responses are simulated under random excitation. Natural Excitation Technique using only response measurements is applied to compute the impulse responses. Eigensystem Realization Algorithm is employed to identify the modal parameters on the simulated responses. A new accuracy indicator, Normalized Occurrence Number-NON, is developed to quantitatively partition the realized modes into true and false modes so that the false portions can be disregarded. Numerical simulation demonstrates that the new accuracy indicator can determine the true system modes accurately.
