A study on the removal of heavy metals using sawdust was performed. Among heavy metals such as lead, copper and cadmium ions, uptake capacity of lead ions was the highest as about 0.22 mmol/g-dry mass at pH 4. The surface condition and existence of lead ions onto the sawdust was confirmed by the FT-IR, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), and EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray) instrumental analyses. When 0.5g of sawdust was added to initial lead solution (100ppm) removal efficiency was approximately 90%. Isothermal adsorption curve for lead ions was described by the Langmuir model equation and experimental data well fitted to model equation. Most adsorption for lead ions was also completed within 60min and pH of lead solution from 5.8 to 4.5 decreased with time.
Glasses in the system $CaO-TiO_2-SiO_2-Al_2O_3-ZrO_2-B_2O_3$ were investigated to find the glass seal compositions suitable for use in the planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). Glass-ceramics prepared from the glasses by one-stage heat treatment at $1,000^{\circ}C$ showed various thermal expansion coefficients (i,e., $8.6\times10^{-6^{\circ}}C^{-1}$ to $42.7\times10^{-6^{\circ}}C^{-1}$ in the range 25-$1,000^{\circ}C$) due to the viscoelastic response of glass phase. The average values of contact angles between the zirconia substrate and the glass particles heated at 1,000-$1,200^{\circ}C$ were in the range of $131^{\circ}\pm4^{\circ}$~$137^{\circ}\pm9^{\circ}$, indicating that the glass-ceramic was in partial non-wetting condition with the zirconia substrate. With increasing heat treatment time of glass samples from 0.5 to 24 h at $1,100^{\circ}C$, the DC electrical conductivity of the resultant glass-ceramics decreased from at $800^{\circ}C$. Isothermal hold of the glass sample at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 48h resulted in diffusion of Ca, Si, and Al ions from glass phase into the zirconia substrate through the glass/zirconia bonding interface. Glass phase and diffusion of the moving ion such as $Ca^{2+}$ in glass phase is responsible for the electrical conduction in the glass-ceramics.
In this work, the effect of biodegradable poly(butylene succinate)(PBS) in difunctional epoxy(21:P) resin was investigated in terms of rheological properties, cure kinetics, thermal stabilities, and mechanical interfacial properties. Rheological properties of the blend system were measured under isothermal condition using a rheometer. Cross-linking activation energies($\textrm{E}_c$) were determined from the Arrhenius equation based on gel time and curing temperature. The $\textrm{E}_c$ was increased in the presence of 10 wt% PBS as compared with neat 2EP. From the DSC results of the blends, the cure activation energies($\textrm{E}_a$) showed a similar behavior with $\textrm{E}_c$ due to the increased intermolecular interaction between 2EP and PBS. The decomposed activation energies($\textrm{E}_t$) for the thermal stability derived from the integral method of Horowitz-Metzger equation, were also increased in 10 wt% PBS. In addition, 20 wt% PBS showed the highest critical stress intensity factor($\textrm{E}_{IC}$). which was explained by increasing the fracture toughness of the 2EP/PBS blend systems.
An experimental study was conducted to investigate the performance of a concentrating photovoltaic cell (CPV) against temperature. It is know that a high efficiency of a CPV can be achieved only with proper cell temperature as well as high concentration ratio (CR). This study is concerned with appropriate cooling condition for a liquid-convection cooler for the best performance of a specific CPV. A series of experiments was conducted in a range of cell temperatures as a result of varying cooling conditions, while the concentration ratio was 390 and the solar irradiation flux was higher than 900 $W/m^2$ in outdoor environment. The CPV had a planar dimension of 10 by 10 mm. A Fresnel lens was used as a concentrator, of which the dimension was 221 mm(W) ${\times}$ 221 mm(L) ${\times}$ 3 mm(t) and the transmissivity was known to be 0.8. The cooler was attached to the bottom side of the CPV and had a contact area of 21 mm(W) ${\times}$ 26 mm(L), which was identical to the size of the base plate of the CPV. The coolant temperature was controlled by an isothermal bath and the flow rate was controlled and measured by a flowmeter. The experimental results showed that the average of power efficiency of the CPV decreased from 28.6 % to 24.7 % as the cell temperature increased from $36^{\circ}C$ to $97^{\circ}C$. An appropriate cooling method of a CPV might increase the power conversion efficiency by about 4% for the same concentration ratio. Discussion is included from the viewpoint of the combined efficiency in addition to the power efficiency.

This study was undertaken to observe the formation behavior of ferro- magnetic phase in Mn-Al-Cu Alloys. The alloy selected for this investigation was 70% Mn-29% Al-1% Cu. This pre-allyed pig was prepared to the cylinderical castings using an Induction furnace after homogenizing at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 2hr, the specimens were cooled by cooling methods. Subwequent isothermal heat treatments were followed at $550^{\circ}C$ for various periods of time at predetermined(1-1000min). The formation behavior of ferromagnetic phase was investigated by measurements of magnetic properties of the specimens at each stage of heat treatment, and optical microscopic esamination and X-Ray diffraction analyses were also employed. By this basic experimental results, the conclusions are as follows 1) In order to obtain much amount of ferromagnetic phase, the optimum average cooling rate was about 7.35-$16.4^{\circ}C$/sec($1100^{\circ}C$-$600^{\circ}C$). 2) We verified the decomposition of {\tau} phase to {\beta} -Mn and {\gamma} , as the specimens were homogenized at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 12hr, then heat-treased at $550^{\circ}C$ for 1-1000min. 3) A condition of optimum heat treatments in Mn-Al-Cu permanent mag-netic alloys showed that after homogenizing at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 2hr, the speciments were cooled in air or furnace(A) and subsequent heat treatments at $550^{\circ}C$ for 1-30min. The maximum magnetic properties were measured as follows: Air cooling; Br=1200(Gause), bHc=100(oe), (BH)max=0.07(MGOe) Furnace cooling(A);Br=950(Gauss), bhe=80(Oe), (BH)max=0.05(MGOe)
An experiment and simulation were performed for hydrogen separation of mixtures by PSA (pressure swing adsorption) process on activated carbon. The binary ($H_2/Ar$; 80%/ 20%) and ternary ($H_2/Ar/CH_4$; 60%/ 20%/ 20%) mixtures were used to study the effects of feed composition. The cyclic performances such as purity, recovery, and productivity of 2bed-6step PSA process were experimentally and theoretically compared under non-isothermal and non-adiabatic conditions. The develped process produced the hydrogen with 99% purity and 75% recovery from both processes. Therefore, optimal separation condition was referred multicomponent gas mixtures.
The effect of novel N-crotyl-N,N-dimethyl-4-methylanilinium hexafluoroantimonate (CMH) curing agent as a thermal latent initiator on thermal behaviors, rheological properties, and thermal stability of diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) epoxy cationic system was investigated. From DSC measurements of DGEBA/CMH system, it was shown that this system exhibits an excellent thermal latent characteristic at a given temperature. The conversion and conversion rate of DGEBA/CMH system increased with increasing the concentration of initiator, due to high activity of CMH. Rheological properties of the system were investigated under isothermal condition using a rheometer The gelation time was obtained from the analysis of storage modulus (G'), loss modulus (G"), and damping factor (tan $\delta$). As a result, the reduction of gelation time was affected by high curing temperature and concentration of CMH, resulting in high degree of network formation in cationic polymerization, due to difference of activity. The thermal stability of the cured epoxy resin was discussed in terms of the activation energy for decomposition and thermal factors determined from TGA measurements.ents.
In this work, the cure kinetics and rheological properties of difunctional epoxy(diglycidylether of bisphenol A, DGEBA)/polysulfone (PSF) blends were investigated using differential scanning calorimeter and rheometer. From the DSC results of the blends, the temperature of the exothermic peak and cure activation energy (E) using a half-width method were increased with increasing the PSF content to neat epoxy resin up to 30 wt%. However, a marginal decrease in the blend system was shown in E. The conversion ($\alpha$) and conversion rate (d$\alpha$/dt) were decreased as the content of PSF increases. Rheological properties of the blend system were investigated under isothermal condition using a rheometer. Cross-linking activation energy (E$_{c}$) was determined from the Arrhenius equation based on gel time and curing temperature. As a result, the E$_{c}$ showed a similar behavior with E which could be resulted from high viscosity of PSF and the phase separation between DGEBA and PSF.PSF.f PSF and the phase separation between DGEBA and PSF.PSF.
In this work, biodegradable modified aliphatic polyester (MAP) in tetrafunctional epoxy (4EP) resin was investigated in terms of cure kinetics, thermal stabilities, rheological properties, and mechanical interfacial properties. DSC results of the blends show that the cure activation energies (E$\_$a/) were increased in 10 wt% of MAP compared with neat 4EP, due to the increasing intermolecular interaction between 4EP and MAP. The decomposed activation energies (E$\_$t/) derived from Coats-Redfern method, were increased within the 10∼30 wt% composition range of MAP contents, resulting from increasing the cross-linking density of the blend system. Rheological properties of the blend system were investigated under isothermal condition using a rheometer. Cross-linking activation energies (E$\_$c/) were determined from the Arrhenius equation based on gel time and curing temperature. As a result, the E$\_$c/ showed a similar behavior with E$\_$a/. The fracture toughness (K$\_$IC/) of the mechanical interfacial properties was discussed in semi-IPN behaviors of the casting specimen.
