Borate 완충용액에서 철의 부식에 대한 대기의 영향 (Atmospheric Effects on Corrosion of Iron in Borate Buffer Solution)

  • 변전위법과 선형분극법을 이용하여 Borate 완충용액에서 철의 부식에 대한 대기의 영향을 조사하였다. 철의 부식은 용액 속에 녹아있는 산소의 양에 크게 영향을 받았다. 용액에 녹아 있는 산소의 환원반응으로 환원전류가 증가하여 부식전위가 양의 방향으로 이동하였다. 물 또는 산소의 환원 반응에 의하여 생성된 $OH^-$ 이온은 철 전극의 전기이중층에 $OH^-$ 이온의 농도를 증가시켜 철 전극에 $OH^-$ 이온의 흡착을 용이하게 하였다. 철 전극 표면에 $OH^-$ 이온의 흡착은 Langmuir isotherm 또는 Temkin logarithmic isotherm을 이용하여 설명할 수 있었다.

  • In this study, an innovative media, iron mixed ceramic pellet (IMCP) has been developed for arsenic (As) removal from groundwater. A porous, solid-phase IMCP (2-3 mm) was manufactured by combining clay soil, rice bran, and Fe(0) powder at $600^{\circ}C$. Both the As(III) and As(V) adsorption characteristics of IMCP were studied in several batch experiments. Structural analysis of the IMCP was conducted using X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) analysis to understand the mechanism of As removal. The adsorption of As was found to be dependent on pH, and exhibited strong adsorption of both As(III) and As(V) at pH 5-7. The adsorption process was described to follow a pseudo-second-order reaction, and the adsorption rate of As(V) was greater than that of As(III). The adsorption data were fit well with both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. The maximum adsorption capacities of As(III) and As(V) from the Langmuir isotherm were found to be 4.0 and 4.5 mg/g, respectively. Phosphorus in the water had an adverse effect on both As(III) and As(V) adsorption. Scanning electron microscopy results revealed that iron(III) oxides/hydroxides are aggregated on the surface of IMCP. XAFS analysis showed a partial oxidation of As(III) and adsorption of As(V) onto the iron oxide in the IMCP.

Removal of haloacetonitrile by adsorption on thiol-functionalized mesoporous composites based on natural rubber and hexagonal mesoporous silica

  • Haloacetonitriles (HANs) are nitrogenous disinfection by-products (DBPs) that have been reported to have a higher toxicity than the other groups of DBPs. The adsorption process is mostly used to remove HANs in aqueous solutions. Functionalized composite materials tend to be effective adsorbents due to their hydrophobicity and specific adsorptive mechanism. In this study, the removal of dichloroacetonitrile (DCAN) from tap water by adsorption on thiol-functionalized mesoporous composites made from natural rubber (NR) and hexagonal mesoporous silica (HMS-SH) was investigated. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results revealed that the thiol group of NR/HMS was covered with NR molecules. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicated an expansion of the hexagonal unit cell. Adsorption kinetic and isotherm models were used to determine the adsorption mechanisms and the experiments revealed that NR/HMS-SH had a higher DCAN adsorption capacity than powered activated carbon (PAC). NR/HMS-SH adsorption reached equilibrium after 12 hours and its adsorption kinetics fit well with a pseudo-second-order model. A linear model was found to fit well with the DCAN adsorption isotherm at a low concentration level.

활성탄소섬유가 충전된 유기가스용 방독마스크 정화통의 흡착특성 (Adsorption Characteristics of a Respirator Cartridge for Organic Vapor Packed with Activated Carbon Fiber)

  • The adsorption characteristics of a respirator cartridge is affected by the kind of adsorbent, concentration of organic vapor, humidity and packing density of cartridge. In this study, activated carbon fiber(ACF) instead of activated carbon is used as a adsorbent of cartridges for the removement of organic vapor and the adsorption characteristics were examined. ACF made of cellulose showes high efficiency for the removal of carbon tetrachloride and the adsorption capacity was 0.569g/g ACF at 450 ppm. The relative humidity dose not affected to the adsorbed amount and Langmuir Isotherm was more adequate than Freundlich Isotherm for this adsorption phenomena.

NOM의 오존처리에 따른 분자크기분포변화가 활성탄 흡착에 미치는 영향 (Molecular size distribution of NOM after ozonation and its effect on adsorption with activated carbon)

  • In this study, molecular size distribution of natural organic matter (NOM) after ozonation was measured and its effect on adsorption capacity of activated carbon was investigated. According to the results, the molecular size of NOM was limitedly changed. Specifically, the molecular size of NOM between 5,000 to 10,000 Da were slightly decreased with increasing ozone doses. The adsorption capacity after ozonation was evaluated using Freundlich isotherm with ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) which simulated the multi components adsorption. Further, mini-column test was conducted. The Freundlich constant, K was reduced after ozonation and the non-adsorbable fraction was increased with ozonation. However, no correlation between K and ozone doses was found. The present study also agreed with the correlation between adsorption capacity and pore size characteristics of activated carbon.

석류색소에 대한 견섬유의 염색성 (Dyeing properties of silk fabric with pomegranate colorant)

  • Dyeing properties of the colorants extracted from pomegranate hull on silk fabric were investigated. Pomegranate colorants were characterized by FT-IR analysis. Effects of dyeing condition and mordanting on dye uptake, color change and colorfastness were explored. Pomegranate colorants showed high affinity to silk fiber and its isotherm adsorption curve was Langmuir type. Therefore, ionic bond was involved in the adsorption of pomegranate colorants on to silk fiber. Mordants except Fe did not significantly increase dye adsorption. Pomegranate colorants produced mainly yellow color on silk fabric, but the silk mordanted with Fe showed yellow red color. Fastness to washing, perspiration, and rubbing was not improved by mordanting treatment, but light colorfastness was increased by Fe mordant.

Enhancement of Methylene Blue dye adsorption by Fe-Hydroxyapatite composite

  • Synthesized hydroxyapatite (Hyd) and Fe-hydroxyapatite (Fe-Hyd) composite were used for the removal of Methylene Blue (MB) from aqueous solutions in this study. The effect of adsorbent amount, pH and initial MB concentration were carried out to investigate in the aqueous solution. The kinetic study shows that the MB adsorption process with Hyd or Fe-Hyd follow pseudo-second order kinetic model. Experimental results are well fitted to the Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacities of Hyd and Fe-Hyd were obtained as 2.90 mg/g and 5.64 mg/g for MB according to Langmuir Isotherm models, respectively. Fe-Hyd composite increased the adsorption capacity of Hyd by 1.95 times that Hyd. It is concluded that Fe-Hyd composite is promising and economical adsorbent for MB removal in the aqueous solution.

  • A study on the removal of mercury by Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Aureobasidium pullulans was done, in which the model of adsorption isotherm and adsorption rate was proposed. The adsorption isotherm of mercury by S. cerevisiae was accorded with Langmuir model but A. pullulans was followed to Freundlich model. The amount of mercury removed by A. pullulans was higher than that of S. cerevisiae, but the adsorption rate of mercury by A. pullulans was slower than that of S. cerevisiae. In a rapid adsorption process, therefore, it is more useful to use S. cerevisiae as a biosobent.

  • In this paper a further generalization of the theory of multilayer physical adsorption previously developed by the authors is attempted so that the effect of vertical interactions between adsorbent and adsorbate can be explicitly taken into account. In this attempt we have to discard the previously adopted assumption that the molecules in the second layer or above are all in the same physical state. In order to estimate the effect of vertical interactions on the adsorption isotherm the interaction energy between an adsorbed molecule and the adsorbent surface is assumd to vary as $r^{-3}$ where r is the distance that the molecule under consideration is separated from the adsorbent surface. Resulting adsorption isotherm is applied to interpret the adsorption data of tetramethylsilane vapor on iron film and good agreements between observed and calculated values are obtained over wide range of pressure.

Hydroxyapatite 첨가 활성탄을 이용한 Cd의 동역학적 흡착과 흡착평형에 관한 연구 (Kinetics and Equilibrium Adsorption Studies of Cd Adsorption by the Activated Carbon Containing Hydroxyapatite)

  • 본 연구는 hydroxyapatite(HAP) 첨가 활성탄(HAP sorbent)의 카드뮴에 대한 흡착특성을 조사하였다. HAP 첨가량의 변화에 따른 카드뮴의 제거특성은 HAP 첨가량이 증가 할수록 카드뮴의 제거량은 흡착에 의한 영향으로 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 HAP에 의한 이온교환능력의 증가에 의한 것으로 사료된다. 동역학적 흡착과 흡착평형에 관한 연구는 연속적인 회분식 실험을 통하여 조사하였다. 조사된 흡착평형 데이터는 Langmuir와 Freundlich isotherm mode을 사용하여 살펴보았으며, 초기 흡착질의 농도 변화에 따른 HAP 첨가 활성탄의 카드뮴의 흡착은 Freundlich isotherm model에 적합한 것으로 나타났다. Cd의 흡착반응의 동역학적 연구를 위하여 유사 1차 반응속도와 유사 2차 반응속도 모델을 사용하 Cd 흡착반응의 흡착 메커니즘을 조사하였다. 유사 2차 반응속도를 따르며, 유사 2차 반응속도 상수는 활성탄에 HAP의 첨가량이 증가할수록 증가하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, intraparticle diffusion model을 사용하여 수용액상의 흡착질과 흡착매질과의 흡착 메커니즘을 조사하였다. 수용액상 카드뮴의 흡착 메커니즘은 흡착질과 흡착매질에서 표면흡착반응과 입자내 확산이 동시에 일어나는 것으로 확인되었다.
