  • The shear keys are set in a seismic isolation system to resist the long-term service loadings, and are cut off to isolate the earthquakes. This paper investigated the influence of shear keys on the seismic performance of a vertical spring-viscous damper-concave Coulomb friction isolation system by an incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) and a performance-based assessment. Results show that the cutting off process of shear keys should be simulated in a numerical analysis to accurately predict the seismic responses of isolation system. Ignoring the cutting off process of shear keys usually leads to untrue seismic responses in a numerical analysis, and many of them are unsafe for the design of isolated structure. And those errors will be increased by increasing the cutting off force of shear keys and decreasing the spring constant of shear keys, especially under a feeble earthquake. The viscous damping action postpones the cutting off time of shear keys during earthquakes, and reduces the seismic isolation efficiency. However, this point can be improved by increasing the spring constant of shear keys.

  • It is very important to control the vibration transmitted from external utilities and the transient response due to the internal sources for the precision equipment, which is very sensitive to the vibration environment. The anti-vibration tables that use air springs have been widely used due to their excellent isolation performance, but the systems with high flexibility have the critical problem of large transient response by the impulsive force of the moving mass in operation of the equipment. In this paper, the hybrid vibration control system is proposed, which is combined the air springs with the semi-active MR dampers in order to satisfy the performances of isolation and vibration reduction simutaneously.

  • The purpose of seismic isolation system among them is to lengthen the period of structure and make its period shift from the dominant period of earthquake. In this study, the seismic behavior of arch structure with lead rubber bearing(LRB) and friction pendulum system(FPS) is analyzed. The arch structure is the simplest structure and has the basic dynamic characteristics among large spatial structures. Also, Large spatial structures have large vertical response by horizontal seismic vibration, unlike seismic behavior of normal rahmen structures. When horizontal seismic load is applied to the large spatial structure with isolation systems, the horizontal acceleration response of the large spatial structure is reduced and the vertical seismic response is remarkably reduced.

  • In this paper, we propose a fault isolation system for device drivers of the Linux operating system. High availability systems impose stringent requirements upon Linux operating system. Especially device drivers can be a major source of operating system instability and many times contribute to system degradation and outages. The proposed fault isolation system identifies the occurrence of the memory-related faults in device driver and isolates it from the kernel. By operating at the early stage of the page fault handler in Linux kernel, the system detects which module causes fault and isolates it transparently from the remaining part of the kernel. By experiments, we show that the proposed system efficiently detects faults incurred by device driver, isolates the device driver and the process which accessed the driver module from the kernel.

  • This paper considers a decentralized multiple faults detection and isolation (FDI) scheme for reconfigurable manipulators. Inspired by their modularization property, a global sliding mode (GSM) based stable adaptive fuzzy decentralized controller is investigated for the system in fault free, while for the system suffering from multiple faults (actuator fault and sensor fault), the decentralized sliding mode observer (DSMO) is employed to detect their occurrence. Hereafter, the time and location of faults can be determined by a fault isolation scheme via a bank of DSMOs. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed schemes in controlling, detecting and isolating faults is illustrated by the simulations of two 3-DOF reconfigurable manipulators with different configurations successfully.

  • In this paper, the seismic analysis and the modeling techniques have been introduced for aseismic performances assessment, when seismic isolation bearings are applied on a real bridge. Nonlinear time-history analysis is carried out using finite element analysis program. In this study, EI Centro earthquake(1940, N00W), Mexico earthquake(1985, N90W), and earthquake simulation from modified SIMQKE are used as earthquake ground excitations. The seismic response of seismically isolated bridge is compared with that of a bridge using conventional Pot Bearings, after obtaining the displacements of the deck, the deformations of the piers, shear forces and moments of the bottoms of the piers. The analytical analysis results show that seismic isolation bearing, especially seismic isolation bearings with sliding mechanism, could reduce earthquake forces.

  • In this paper, a redundancy management system for aircraft is studied, and fault detection and isolation algorithms of inertial sensor system are proposed. Contrary to the conventional aircraft systems, UAV system cannot allow triple or quadruple hardware redundancy due to the limitations on space and weight. In the UAV system with dual sensors, it is very difficult to identify the faulty sensor. Also, conventional fault detection and isolation (FDI) method cannot isolate multiple faults in a triple redundancy system. In this paper, two FDI techniques are proposed. First, hardware based FDI technique is proposed, which combines a parity equation approach with a wavelet based technique. Second, analytic FDI technique based on the Kalman filter is proposed, which is a model-based FDI method utilizing the threshold value and the confirmation time. To provide the reference value for detecting the fault, residuals are calculated using the extended Kalman filter. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed FDI methods, numerical simulations are performed.

  • The effect of sensor faults in direct torque control(DTC) based induction motor drives is analyzed and a new Instrument fault detection isolation scheme(IFDIS) is proposed. The proposed IFDIS, which operated in real-time, detects and isolates the incipient fault(s) of speed sensor and current sensors that provide the feedback information. The scheme consists of an adaptive gain scheduling observer as a residual generator and a special sequential test logic unit. The observer provides not only the estimate of stator flux, a key variable in DTC system, but also the estimates of stator current and rotor speed that are useful for fault detection. With the test logic, the IFDIS has the functionality of fault isolation that only multiple estimator based IFDIS schemes can have. Simulation results for various type of sensor faults show the detection and isolation performance of the IFDIS and the applicability of this scheme to fault tolerant control system design.

  • The paper is about the development of 6-DOF active vibration isolation systems using VCM. Firstly, formulate the vertical 3-DOF mathematical model under eccentric load, and compare the model with the case in which the center of mass is located at the centroid. And then, complete the 6-DOF mathematical model by formulating the horizontal 3-DOF mathematical model. Find main parameters by comparing the result of the frequency response test with simulation result on the model. Finally, achieve the performance of vibration isolation by applying loop shaping approach & feedforward controller.

  • This paper investigates the effectiveness of widely used identification methods to identify the response of seismically isolated structures supported on bearings with bilinear behavior. The paper shows that while both time domain and frequency domain methods predict with high accuracy the modal characteristics of structures isolated by linear isolation system, their performance degrades appreciably when the isolation system exhibits bilinear behavior even when its strength assumes moderate values (say 5% of the weight). The paper also shows that the natural period of isolated structure that results from bilinear isolation systems can be satisfactorily predicted with wavelet analysis.
