  • A fuzzy inference logic system is proposed for gas turbine engine fault isolation. The gas path measurements used for fault isolation are exhaust gas temperature, low and high rotor speed, and fuel flow. The fuzzy inference logic uses rules developed from a model of performance influence coefficients to isolate engine faults while accounting for uncertainty in gas path measurements. Inputs to the fuzzy inference logic system are measurement deviations of gas path parameters which are transferred directly from the ECM(Engine Control Monitoring) program and outputs are engine module faults. The proposed fuzzy inference logic system is tested using simulated data developed from the ECM trend plot reports and the results show that the proposed fuzzy inference logic system isolates module faults with high accuracy rate in the environment of high level of uncertainty.

  • Sensor fault detection and isolation problems subject to H_/$H_{\infty}$, performance are concerned for linear time-invariant systems with time delay in a state and parametric uncertainties. To that end, a model-based observer bank approach is pursued. The design conditions for both continuous- and discrete-time cases are formulated in terms of matrix inequalities, which are then converted to the problems solvable via an algorithm involving convex optimization.

  • To improve fault isolation performance of the Bayes isolator, this paper proposes the Fuzzy-Bayes isolator, which uses the Fuzzy-Bayes classifier as a fault isolator. The Fuzzy-Bayes classifier is composed of the Bayes classifier and weighting factor, which is determined by fuzzy inference logic. The Mahalanobis distance derivative is mapped to the weighting factor by fuzzy inference logic. The Fuzzy-Bayes fault isolator is designed for the BLDC motor fault diagnosis system. Fault isolation performance is evaluated by the experiments. The research results indicate that the Fuzzy-Bayes fault isolator improves fault isolation performance and that it can reduce the transition region chattering that is occurred when the fault is injected. In the experiment, chattering is reduced by about half that of the Bayes classifier's.

  • In this paper, we propose a fault diagnosis algorithm to detect and isolate multiple faults in a system. The proposed fault diagnosis algorithm is based on a multiple fault classifier which consists of two ART2 NN(adaptive resonance theory2 neural network) modules and the algorithm is composed of three main parts - parameter estimation, fault detection and isolation. When a change in the system occurs, estimated parameters go through a transition zone in which residuals between the system output and the estimated output cross the threshold, and in this zone, estimated parameters are transferred to the multiple faults classifier for fault isolation. From the computer simulation results, it is verified that when the proposed diagnosis algorithm is performed successfully, it detects and isolates faults in the position control system of a DC motor.

  • This paper presents a fault detection and isolation(FDI) scheme for a nonlinear systems with a actuator and sensor faults. A residual generator based on the observer model generate the information for a fault detection. The proposed fault estimators are activated for a fault isolation and applied to estimate the time-varying lumped faults(model uncertainty + fault). but a fault estimator error dose not converge to zero since the derivative of lumped fault is not zero. Then the fuzzy neural network(FNN) is used to estimate the fault estimator error. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and the applicability of the approaches proposed.

  • This paper presents the results of experimental studies of the mechanical characteristics of the Coil Spring and Viscous Damper system. The Coil Spring and Viscous Damper systems were selected for the isolation of Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) which is located in Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). The Coil Spring and Viscous Damper systems were developed for, the operating vibration isolation and seismic isolation for scaled Model EDG System. The damping properties of the viscous damper changes as the variation of velocity. As a results, nonlinear damping characteristics of viscous damper system were evaluated.

  • Seismic isolation systems have typically been used in the form of base seams in mid-rise and low-rise buildings. In the case of high-rise buildings, it is difficult to apply the base isolation. In this study, the seismic response was analyzed by changing the installation position of the seismic isolation device in 3D high - rise model. To do this, we used 30-story and 40-story 3D buildings as example structures. Historic earthquakes such as Mexico (1985), Northridge (1994) and Rome Frieta (1989) were applied as earthquake loads. The installation position of the isolation device was changed from floor to floor to floor. The maximum deformation of the seismic isolation system was analyzed and the maximum interlaminar strain and maximum absolute acceleration were analyzed by comparing the LB model with seismic isolation device and the Fixed model, which is the base model without seismic isolation device. If an isolation device is installed on the lower layer, it is most effective in response reduction, but since the structure may become unstable, it is effective to apply it to an effective high-level part. Therefore, engineers must consider both structural efficiency and safety when designing a mid-level isolation system for high-rise buildings.

  • In this study, seismic performance of geotechnical seismic isolation system capable of primary seismic isolation in the ground was evaluated. 1-G shaking table test was used to assess the performance of Teflon or steel slag as geotechnical seismic isolation systems installed beneath superstructure foundation. Response acceleration and response spectra were analyzed considering different input motions. The results were compared with those of fixed foundation structure without seismic isolation system. The steel slag-type seismic isolation system showed significant reduction in acceleration. The teflon-type seismic isolation system did not show significant effects on acceleration reduction in low-to-moderate seismicity condition, but it did show better effects in case of strong seismic condition. As input motion was transferred to the upper mass, the response spectrum of the fixed foundation structure was amplified in the short period range. In contrast, the response spectrum of the structure with seismic isolation using teflon or steel slag amplified in the long period range. It is found that the change of periodicity and the friction characteristics between isolation materials and foundations affected acceleration reduction.

  • The substrate resistance is modeled to estimate the performance degradation of analog circuits by substrate noise in a $0.35{\mu}m$ twin-well non-epitaxial CMOS process. The substrate resistance model equations are applied to the P+ guard-ring isolation structure and a good match was achieved between measurements and models. The substrate resistance is divided into four types and a semi-empirical model equation is obtained for each type of substrate resistance. The rms(root-mean-square) error of the substrate resistance model is below 10% compared with the measured resistance. To apply this substrate resistance model to the P+ guard ring structure, ADS(Advanced Design System) circuit simulation results are compared with the measurement results using Network Analyzer, and relatively good agreements are obtained between measurements and simulations.

  • In this paper, a miniaturized radio frequency choke (RFC) using modified stubs is proposed to improve isolation characteristics in a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system. The proposed RFC, based on the LC resonance, is designed to suppress the leakage current that leads to the degradation of antenna diversity performances in the MIMO antenna configuration. The proposed RFC is composed of two open stubs that are implemented on the top of the ground plane and miniaturized by adding a slit structure on the ground plane. The MIMO antennas are also designed to verify isolation performance in the LTE 2300 band (2,300-2,400 MHz). The MIMO antennas perform well with low reflection coefficient characteristics and high isolation characteristics in the whole LTE 2300 band. To evaluate the isolation in the MIMO system, the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) is calculated, and the value is less than 0.08. The achieved ECC is regarded as a reasonable result for improving isolation performance in the frequency range of 2,300-2,400 MHz; also, radiation patterns of antenna elements are maintained regardless of the presence of RFC.
