  • The Water resources utilization pattern of Jangsung reservoir was studied. The observed precipitation and existing reservoir operation data such as irrigation amount, reservoir storage, river maintenance requirement, flood control discharge were collected for ten years period and analyzed. Major findings of this study are as follows: The observed average, minimum, maximum annual precipitation were 905.1mm, 1,977.3mm, 1,554.3mm during study period, respectively. The average annual irrigation amount was 554.5mm, irrigation amount of drought years of '92 and '94 was 604.6mm, 679.2mm, respectively. However, irrigation amount of extended drought year '95 was 384.9mm. It showed that supplying capacity of Jangsung reservoir was limited when consecutive 2 year drought occurred. The main water resources usage of Jangsung reservoir was irrigation, but flood control discharge exceed irrigation amount exceptionally when high precipitation occurred. The reservoir operation record revealed that discharge for river maintenance was delivered even drought years.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the irrigation intervals and the amount of suitable growing substrate needed to achieve the desired shallow-extensive green roof system during a dry summer in Korea. In terms of treatment, three types (SL, $P_6P_2L_2$, $P_4P_4L_2$) with varying soil mixture ratios and two types (15 cm, 25 cm) with varying soil depths were created. The results have been analyzed after measuring growth and soil water contents. The difference of growth by treatment was significant in terms of green coverage, height, leaf width and photosynthesis. In measurement of chlorophyll content, no difference was detected when measured against soil depth. According to the growth measurement of Zoysia japonica with respect to differing soil mixture ratios in the 15 cm-deep treatment, a statistical difference was detected at the 0.05 significance level in photosynthesis. In case of green coverage, height, chlorophyll content and leaf width, no statistical significance was observed. In case of the 25 cm-deep treatment, a statistical significance was observed in height and photosynthesis. In terms of green coverage, chlorophyll content and leaf width, no statistical significance was detected. In comparisons of soil moisture tension and soil water contents, the irrigation interval and amount were 8 days and 14.9 L in the SL (15 cm) treatment, respectively. The irrigation interval showed for 10 days a 1.3-fold increase, and the irrigation amount was 27.4 L 1.8-fold more than SL (25 cm), respectively. For $P_6P_2L_2$ (15 cm) treatment, the irrigation interval and amount were 12 days and 20.7 L, respectively. However, an irrigation interval under $P_6P_2L_2$ (25 cm) was for 15 days 1.3 times longer than $P_6P_2L_2$ (15 cm), and an irrigation amount of 40 L was 1.9 times more than that under $P_6P_2L_2$ (15 cm). In $P_4P_4L_2$ (15 cm) treatment, it was indicated that the irrigation interval was 15 days, and the irrigation amount was 19.2 L. It was not needed to irrigate for 16 days under $P_4P_4L_2$ (25 cm) treatment during the dry summer and the longest no-rain periods. The irrigation interval and amount under $P_4P_4L_2$ were 1.8-fold and 1.3-fold, respectively, more than SL treatment as affected by soil mixture ratio. Comparatively $P_4P_4L_2$ had more 1.3-fold and 0.9-fold in irrigation interval and amount more than $P_6P_2L_2$. Therefore, it can be noted that different soil depth and soil mixture ratios had a significant effect on the irrigation interval and amount.

  • The amount of irrigation water can be calculated based on the irrigation schedule in irrigation manual. At present, the maximum irrigation manual, which was developed in 1999 for the maximum yield with maxmum irrigation, is using. Now the water saving irrigation manual for red pepper, without decrease of crop yield, has been developded in 45 areas of korea. Among 45 regions, 9 regions which were selected respectively from 9 Provinces of Korea, were used for this study. The water saving irrigation manual has been used easily without soil sampling and measurement of soil water status. The objective of this study is to assess the possibility of the saving of irrigation water compared to the maximum irrigation manual. The average potential evapo-transpiration (PET) during 30 years in 9 region for the red pepper cultivation was a $2.69mm\;day^{-1}$. The saving amount of irrigation water for red pepper cultivation by saving irrigation manual compared to the maximum irrigation manual in a year was 309.4 mm, 303.3 mm and 309.5 mm in the soil of Sandy Loam (SL), Loam (L) and Silty Loam (SiL), respectively. The average saving amount of irrigation water for red pepper cultivation by saving irrigation manual compared to the maximum irrigation manual in a year was 307.4 mm.

  • The purpose of this study was to establish the estimation method of irrigation water amount for sewage treated water reuse for agricultural purpose. To calculate the irrigation water amount, we adopted Penman-Monteith for potential evapotranspiration estimation and applied crop coefficient and irrigation efficiency factor. We developed the irrigation water amount calculation program using C language in Xcode environment. The target district for calculation is having 259 ha of agricultural land located near the Jinyeong Clear Water Circulation Center in Hanrim-myeon, Gimhae city. The meteorological data of the study area were obtained from Changwon weather station from 1986 to 2017. Calculated average and maximum of annual mean potential evapotranspiration were 2.72 mm/day and 6.22 mm/day, respectively. We used K-S (Kolmogorov-Smirnov) for goodness-of-fit test to find optimal probability distribution of annual mean and maximum evapotranspiration. As a result, the normal distribution was selected for the appropriate distribution. The annual mean and maximum potential evapotranspiration for 10-year return period by applying normal distribution were 2.88 mm/day and 6.76 mm/day, respectively. Assuming that the irrigation efficiency is 80%, the irrigation water requirement was calculated as $36.05m^3/day/ha$ and $84.45m^3/day/ha$, respectively, when annual mean and maximum potential evapotranspiration were applied. The actual irrigation water amount can be calculated by applying the crop coefficient and cropping days for the study area based on the developed irrigation water amount estimation program in this study.

  • This study was conducted by directly sowing Asemi in late April at 30 × 10 cm intervals to determine the optimal irrigation method and irrigation amount to maximize the use of limited agricultural water and to increase the yield when growing rice in a desert climate. Conventional irrigation (Conv.), surface drip irrigation (Sur), subsurface drip irrigation (Sub.), and sprinkler irrigation (Spr.) methods were used. The following amounts of irrigation were tested based on field capacity (0.33 bar): 80% (V/V, FC80), 100% (FC100), and 120% (FC120), and data for 2 years were averaged. The total amount of irrigation by irrigation method was the lowest, at 627 ton/10 a, for Sub. irrigation with the FC80 treatment, which was 60.4% less than the amount of irrigation with the FC120 treatment (1,584 ton/10a). Sub. irrigation with the FC120 treatment gave the greatest amount of rice, at 665 kg/10 a, and this condition obtained a yield of 88.1% (754 kg/10 a) of the yield obtained with the conventional treatment. Therefore, when planting rice in a desert climate, subsurface drip irrigation at 120% of field capacity is considered advantageous to increase water use efficiency and crop yield.

  • The purpose of study was analyze the pumping characteristics, Irrigation Efficiency(IE), and irrigation pattern by period of rice growing stage with based on the performance of design irrigation water requirement and operational Galshin Pumping(GP) station in GP irrigation district constructed under rural water development project master plan. GP station was located in Yedang reservoir, Yesan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do and has been supplying irrigation water since 2006. The research data are the Irrigation Water Requirement(IWR) and the Pumping Water Amount(PWA) from 2006 to 2015 at the GP station, which is the supplied amount. The IWR were calculated using the Blaney-Criddle formula of the HOMWRS program, Hydrological Operation Model for Water Resource System, developed by Korea Rural Community Corporation. The Blaney-Criddle formula was used to calculate design irrigation water requirement of Galshin rural water development project master plan. During 2006-2015, the study period, the annual average IWR is 763.2(±149.1)mm, the annual PWA of the GP station is 397.4mm to 1,056.9mm, and those average annual PWA is 643.4(±208.4)mm. The annual IE of GP station 96.5% to 169.0%, and the average annual IE is 124.3%, which is higher than the research results conducted in other pumping stations. Analyzing the irrigation patterns of the GP irrigation district, the IWR Ratio per 10days(IWRR) and the PWA Ratio per 10days(PWAR) of the G P station were obtained. The IWRR is the percentage of IWR for each 10 days of a month to total IWR per year, and the PWAR is the percentage of PWA for each 10 days of a month to total PWA per year. The Kolmogorov- Smirnov(K-S) test results of IWRR and PWAR showed the characteristics classification by rice growing stage and stable normal distribution characteristics. Average IWRR(AIWRR) and Average PWAR(APWAR) are presented as irrigation patterns. Irrigation pattern analysis will be able to standardize comparison, analysis and probability calculation of the pumping station characteristics of different pumping stations and apply to objective evaluation of the pumping station district.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the basic data such the total, the daily maximum, and the peak stage of consumptive use of water and also the soil moisture extraction pattern for irrigation plan of tobacco during the growing period. The plots at which this study was conducted are divided into three fertilization levels of 30g, 60g, and 90g. Each block for three levels is divided as vinyl mulching and irrigation plot, vinyl mulching and nonirrigation plot, and nonmulching and irrigation plot. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The evapotranspiration amount of mulching-irrigation plots are similar to that of mulching-nonirrigation plots. While, the evapotranspiration amount of mulching plots are different obviousely from that of nonmulching plots. Therefore, a significance was recognized between the mulching plots and the nonmulching plots. 2. The amount of evapotranspiration in case of 60g and 90g fertilization level was larger than that of 30g. But the 60g plots and the 90g plots showed little differences. 3. In the total amount of evapotranspiration for each of the experimental plots during the growing period, nonmulching-irrigation plot showed the largest value of 332.9mm, second the mulching-irrigation plot, 284. 9mm, and the mulching-nonirrigation plot, the smallest as 255. 9mm. 4. In the monthly average amount of evapotranspiration for each of the treatment plots, the mulching-irrigation the mulching-nonirrigation, and the nonmulching-irrigation plot showed 3. 6mm, 3. 2mm and 4. 2mm respectively. The daily maximum amount of evapotranspiration showed 5. 1mm, 4. 5mm, and 6.4mm for the mulching-irrigation, the mulching-nonirrigationl, and the nonmulching-irrigation plot respectively. 5. It was confirmed that the higher correlationship exists between the weight of dried leaves and the amount of evapotranspiration, and between the weight of dried leaves and the coefficient of evapotranspiration with the function of logarithms. The coefficient of evapotranspiration have a tendency to increase in proportion to the leaf area index. 6. The maximum coefficient of evapotranspration and the largest leaf area index showed 1. 45 and 5.5 respectively. The stage appeared maximum values was assumed to be before and after flowering. 7. The soil moisture extraction pattern has changed by the depth of root zone for the tobacco's growing. The soil moisture extraction influenced on the 20cm depth of soil after 15 days passed, the 30cm depth after 25 days passed and the whole root zone after 45 days passed from planting. It was shown in the only mulching-irrigation plot after S5days passed from planting that the rate of soil moisture extraction of 20cm layer was larger than that of 10cm layer.

  • BACKGROUND: Production function gives the equation that shows the relationship between the quantities of productive factors used and the amount of product obtained, and can answer a variety of questions. This study was carried out to evaluate the relationship between irrigation water used for rice production and rice productivity by the production function which shows the mathematical relation between input and output. METHODS AND RESULTS: The statistical data on rice production and on the amount of irrigation water were used for the production function analysis. The analysis period was separated for 1966-1981 and 1982-2011, based on goal's change on agriculture from 'increasing food' to 'complex farming'. The relation between irrigation and yield considering production function is a short-term production function both before and after 1982. These results can be expressed by the sigmoid relation. When comparing the graphs of the two analyzed periods, there are differences in quantity between the maximum point and the minimum point during the same analysis period, which can be called an 'Irrigation Effect' by the difference of irrigation, and 'Technical Effect' by the difference by inputs like as fertilizers etc. CONCLUSION: The results could be useful as information for assessing the relationship between agricultural water and the productivity of rice and predicting rice productivity by irrigation water in Korea.

  • To define the amount of consumptive use of upland crops, the moisture consumption characters were investigated with different soil moisture content by soil properties(loam, sandy loam, sand) at the experimental farm of Kon-Kuk University from April 20 to July 20 1984. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. Total moisture consumption under bare soil condition had an order of loam> sandy loam> sand and showed an order of pF 1.5> pF2. 1> pF 2.7 by re-irrigation point and the average during the experimental period (92days) was 435. 9mm and the daily average moisture consumption was 4. 7mm. 2. The moisture consumption characters of bare soil plot obtained showed that the amount of irrigation water per one time and the days of intermission increased and, on the contrary, the times of irrigation and the total amount of irrigation water decreased by the increment of re-irrigation point in the same soil 3. Total moisture consumption of spring cabbage under open cultivation showed 528.6 rim in maximum and had an order of loam> sandy loam> sand. In the aspect of rc-irrigation point, it had an order of pFl. 5> pF 2.1> pF 2.7. In case the planning basic year was taken into account, the amount of irrigation water needed for open cultivation was 456. 3 mm and its average daily moisture consumption was 6. 2mm. 4. Total moisture consumption of summer cucumber under open cultivation showed 635. 8mm in maximum and had an order of loam> sandy loam> sand. In the aspect of re-irrigation point, it had an order of pF 1.5> pF2. 1> pF2. 7 In case the planning basic year was taken into consideration, the amount of irrigation water was 516. 9mm and its aversge daily moisture consumption was 6. 5mm. 5. The result of cabbage cultivation showed its maximum yield in loam soil when the pF values were maintained from 1,5 to 2.1 and then the evapotranspiration ratio was 1, 76 and also when the amount of irrigation water were similar, it showed effective to reduce the days of intermtission. 6. The result of cucumber cultivation showed its maximum yield in sandy loam soil when the pF value maintained from 1.5 to 1.7 and when the irrigation point maintained at pF 2,7 in sandy soil, its yield was severely decreased.
