  • After more than 100 years of development, rotating electric machines are a mature industrial product. Nevertheless, improvements are still possible for specific applications, and it is likely that the major evolution will be promoted by new materials and unconventional structures. Till now, plastic materials are an infrequent choice for the electric machines structural parts, but pioneering applications, such as aeronautical components, let some technological scouting: a low-weight/high-efficiency plastic axial flux motor for a solar flying platform is presented as an example of combined new-material/new-geometry development. The basic design aspects and the prototyping choices are presented and discussed together with the first experimental results.

  • The small wind turbines under a few kW grades has the merits of setting up with low costs by individuals, and get the energy saving effects that, it has the secured, separate markets from the big range systems, and the developing of it is continuously proceeding. The objective of this paper is to provide the design characteristics analysis of a dual-rotor, ironless, Radial Flux Permanent Magnet(RFPM) machines for small wind turbine. This thesis is aiming mainly analyzing the characteristics of the output power of the Prototype to verify through the theoretical study and tests. The results reveal an indication of the machine best suited with respect to performance criterion for a particular design requirement.

  • In this paper, a controller design for ironless linear synchronous motor is proposed. The designed controller is mainly composed of speed and current control, which are carried out by the high-speed digital signal processor(DSP). In addition the PWM inverter is controlled by space voltage PWM method. This system is implemented using by 32-bit DSP(TMS32OC31), a high-integrated logic device(EPM940), and IPM(Intelligent Power Module) for compact and powerful system design. The experimental results show the effective performance of controller for careless linear synchronous motor.

  • In this research, a high temperature superconducting(HTS) motor is designed which is adequate for an electrical aircraft by generating high power density and the potentiality of its application to an aircraft is studied. The designed motor is based on YBCO plates, HTS coils composed of Bi-2223, and ironless air cooled resistive armature. The HTS motor is designed to generate power equivalent to O-360 engine with 180HP at 2700RPM which is used for Cessna and equivalent to CFM56 engine with 18000HP at 5000RPM which is used for B-737. Also, power densities of HTS motors are compared with power densities of aircraft engines so that we can estimate the potentiality of the HTS motor as an aircraft engine.
