Inductance and Push/pull Effects of Moving Coil Type LOA with Consideration of a Mover Positions (가동자 위치에 따른 가동코일형 LOA의 인덕턴스 변화와 Push/pull 효과)

  • A moving-coil-type linear oscillatory actuator is consisted of the NdFeB permanent magnets with high specific energy as the stator, a coil-wrapped nonmagnetic hollow rectangular structure and an iron core as a pathway for magnetic flux. The inductance of moving coil and the push/pull effect is obtained from the permeance model of LOA with the open magnetic circuit. The analytical method are verified using the 2D finite element method.

  • In this paper, we analyzed that characteristics of flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using the third winding to fault current limiting. The flux-lock type SFCL using the third winding consists of the first and seconding windings which are wound in parallel each other a iron core. Also it connected inductively the third winding connected resistance of series. Because of the hysteresis according to the increased voltage, the distortion of current in the flux-lock type SFCL occurs. It is a disadvantage to increase the capacity of SFCL. We conformed that the third winding of the flux-lock type SFCL prevented the distortion of current. Also, the third winding did not affect the initial fault current of the flux-lock type SFCL.

Round-robin Test on AC Losses in a Technical High-Tc Superconducting Tape (실용고온초전도테이프의 교류손실에 대한 Round-robin테스트)

  • In this work the AC loss measurement setup based on an iron core background magnet, not used in a conventional one, has been successfully developed. To prove its validity, a round-robin test for the same Bi-2223 tape sample among three institutes has been done. The results show that the self-field and magnetization losses from the developed setup well agree with the losses measured at two other institutes of Korea Basic Science Institute and Yokohama National University. The measured magnetization losses for parallel or perpendicular fields can be well predicted from the slab model or the strip model for a filamentary region. However the magnetization losses for longitudinal fields can be rather predicted by the slab model for a decoupled filament. The self-field losses are well explained by the Norris ellipse model.

  • An axial-flux permanent-magnet machine(AFPM) topology with coreless winding is proposed. In the proposed AFPM configuration. the winding consists of a hexagon-shaped coils encapsulated in fiber-reinforced epoxy resin. Due to the lack of the iron core. the overall machine structure has high compactness and lightness. The simplified design calculation of the back emf was obtained. In this study, motor design was carried out using the software package Maxwell. This paper discusses the basic design of coil winding of AFPM motor. Experimental results were taken form a prototype machine rated 0.4 Nm, 2000 rpm.

  • This paper presents a method for determining of the equivalent d-q model parameters of three-phase squirrel cage induction motors. The method is based on the use of a finite-element field calculation which enables the precise slot geometry to be modelled accurately, and includes the effects of magnetic saturation of iron core. The proposed method can reduce computational costs compared with the method that needs the iterative field analysis to obtain the impedance. It is verified that the circuit inductances are shown as functions of the current.

  • A voice-coil-type LOA consists of the NdFeB permanent magnets with high specific energy as the stator, a coil-wrapped nonmagnetic hollow rectangular structure, and an iron core as a pathway for magnetic flux. When applying a voice-coil-type LOA to the control system, we have to obtain the control parameters and circuit parameters, such as mass, coil inductance, coil resistance, thrust voltage & stroke, frequency & stroke and so on. Therefore, these parameter were determined from the analytical and experimental method.

  • This paper presents the design of a small scale High Tc superconducting power transformer. In the design of the transformer, BSCCO-2223 tape was considered as the conductor. Double pan cake winding was adopted in order to easy the construction of the winding and to lessen the leakage reactance of the transformer. Numerical calculation was used to decide the arrangement of the double pan cake winding. Estimation of the AC loss, magnetizing loss and self field loss, in the superconducting winding and the iron loss in the core were given.

  • The transformer is expected to be an essential component of resistive type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) for both the increase of voltage ratings in SFCL and the simultaneous quench due to different critical current between HTSC elements. However, for the design to prevent the saturation of iron core and the effective fault current limitation, the analysis for operation of SFCL with consideration for the magnetization characteristics are required. In this paper, the fault current limiting characteristics related with the magnetization ones were investigated through the variation of the ratio of the number of turns in the 1st and the 2nd windings. The proper design condition with variation of the number of turns to make the effective fault current limiting operation could be determined.

Preparation of MgO with High Surface Area, and Modification of Its Pore Characteristics

  • Thermal decomposition of hydrated surface layer of $Mg(OH)_2$ at $500^{\circ}C$ in vacuum turned non-porous MgO into porous one with high surface area of around $270 m^2$/g. Most of its surface area, 74 %, was from micropores, and rest of it was from mesopores in wedge-shaped slits, exhibiting bimodal size distribution centered around 30 and 90${\AA}$. Rehydration followed by subsequent dehydration at $300 ^{\circ}C$ in dynamic vacuum further raised the surface area to 340 $m^2$/g. Fraction of microporous surface area was increased to 93%, and the shape of the mesopores was modified into parallel slits with a specific dimension of 32 ${\AA}$. Application of $Fe_2O_3$ over MgO via iron complex formation did not alter the pore characteristics of MgO core, except slightly increased pore dimension. Over the course of the modification, $Fe_2O_3$ stayed on the surface possibly via spill-over reaction.

  • This paper describes for new design method to improve respones characteristics of moving-magnet type LDM with volume reduction of slider back iron. To achieve the constant thrust of LDM through restraining saturation at the center core of stator excitation coil, double sided stator winding of LDM is proposed. We constructed new type LDM to prove the validity of design process. Analysis results through measurement and simulation of proposed multi-separated winding LDM were proved excellent in response characteristics and static thrust.
