  • In the present work, we carried out a molecular dynamics study of the kinetic properties of the FLiNaK molten salt, as well as a detailed study of the structure of this salt melt. The high value of the self-diffusion coefficient of fluorine ions is due to the large number of Coulomb repulsions between the most numerous negative ions. The calculated values of shear viscosity are in good agreement with the experimental data, as well as with the reference data obtained on the basis of finding the most reliable data. The total and partial functions of the radial distribution are calculated. According to the statistical analysis, fluorine ions have the greatest numerical diversity in the environment of similar ions, and sodium ions with the lowest representation in FLiNaK, have the least such diversity. For the subsystem of fluorine ions, the rotational symmetry of the fifth order is the most pronounced. Some of the fluorine ions form linear chains consisting of three atoms, which are not formed for positive ions. The results of the work give an understanding of the behavior molten FLiNaK under operating conditions in a molten salt reactor and will find application in future studies of this molten salt.

  • In order to improve the electrochemical performances of Li-ion batteries when spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ is employed as a cathode active material, binary conductive agents were prepared using two different particle-sized carbons like Super P Black and $Vulcan^{(R)}$ XC-72R. The electrochemical performances of the $LiMn_2O_4$ cell system using binary conductive agents were evaluated in terms of specific charge and discharge capacities and cycle life. The cell with binary conductive agent in the 3:7 weight ratios of Super P Black and $Vulcan^{(R)}$ XC-72R showed better electrochemical performances due to the proper combination of ionic diffusion rate and electric contact.

  • Studies were carried out on the selective removal of inorganic salts such as NaCl and $Na_2SO_4$ from dye solution, using counter diffusion-reverse osmosis and nanofiltration, respectivey. For the dye solution used in the experiments, 1 to 30% of salts were removed by counter diffusion while the loss of dye molecules was less than 0.3%. The separation factors by one pass operation were 10-500 according to ionic species. In five successive operations, removals of anion($Cl^-$) increased but those of cation($Na^+$) decreased due to the Donnan effect. Effects of feed flow rate on removal efficiencies of various ions were also observed at constant flow rate of stripping water. Reverse osmosis of desalted dye solution by counter diffusion was conducted to prepare highly concentrated liquid dyes. The rejection efficiency of dye molecules was greater than 99%. For the rejection efficiency of chloride ion, experimental values were compared with theoretical ones based on solution-diffusion model. Two stage diafiltration was performed in nanofiltration. The rejection efficiency of chloride ion was continuously decreased due to the Donnan dialysis and even negative rejection was observed. The Donnan effect was more pronounced in the second diafiltration.

  • This study was performed to examine the possibility of increasing the level of furosemide permeation from the ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) matrix through the skin by incorporating various enhancers in the EVA matrix. The effects of the enhancers on the level of furosemide permeation through the skin were evaluated using Franz diffusion cells with intact excised rat skins. The enhancers examined were the fatty acids (saturated, unsaturated), the pyrrolidones, the propylene glycol derivatives, the glycerides and the non-ionic surfactants. Among the enhancers used, polyoxyethylene-2-oleyl ether (a non-ionic surfactant) showed the best enhancement. The polyoxyethylene 2-oleyl ether as a permeation enhancer could be used for development of furosemide-EVA transdermal matrix system.

  • Dye-sensitized solar cell(DSSC) have been considered one of the promising alternatives to conventional solar cells, because of their low cost, easy fabrication and relatively high energy conversion efficiency. However, although the cell offers reasonable efficiency at least 11%, the use of a liquid electrolyte placed technological challenges for achieving the desired durability and operational stability of the cell. In order to prevent or reduce electrolyte leakage considerable efforts have been made, such as p-type semiconductor or organic hole-transport material that better mechanical properties and simple fabrication processes. In this work, we synthesized solid-state electrolyte containing LiI and KI metal salt with starting materials of poly ethylene oxide to substitute liquid electrolyte enhance the ionic conductivity and solar conversion efficiency. Li+ leads to faster diffusion and higher efficiency and K+ leading to higher ionic conductivity. The efficiency of poly ethylene oxide/LiI system electrolyte is 1.47% and poly ethylene oxide/potassium electrolyte is 1.21%. An efficiency of 3.24% is achieved using solid-state electrolyte containing LiI and KI concentrations. The increased solar conversion efficiency is attributed to decreased crystallinity in the polymer that leads to enhanced charge transfer.

  • Niosomes are vesicles formed from synthetic non-ionic surfactants, offering an alternative to chemically unstable and expensive liposomes as a drug carrier. Non-ionic surfactant and cholesterol mixture film leads to the formation of vesicular system by hydration with sonication method. The formation of niosome was ascertained by negative staining of TEM. The entrapment efficiency of niosomal suspension was gradually increased with increasing the ratio of cholesterol to surfactant. It was found that the niosome with 6 : 4 (polyoxyethylene 2-cetyl ether: cholesterol) ratio was more stable than those with other ratios. The topical application of acyclovir(ACV) in the treatment of herpes simplex virus type 1(HSV-1) skin disease has a long history. There are an increasing number of reports, however, in which topical ACV therapy is not as effective as oral administration. Lack of efficacy with topical ACV has been hypothesized to reflect the inadequate delivery of drug to the skin. We investigated the permeation of niosome containing $[^{3}H]ACV$ in hairless mouse skin using Franz diffusion cell model. Permeation coefficient(P) of aqueous ACV was $6.7{\times}10^{-4}\;(cm/hr)$ and that of ACV in niosome was $23.4{\times}10^{-4}\;(cm/hr)$, suggesting about 3.5 times increase in the transdermal permeation.

  • Lidocaine(2-Diethylaminoaceto-2', 6'-xylidide) was transdennally delivered by iontophoresis and the effect of enhancer on the delivery of lidocaine was studied. We delivered lidocaine through the skin of hairless mouse using diffusion cell and investigated the effect of the amount of cation salts such as sodium chloride, calcium acetate, zinc acetate and aluminum acetate on the drug delivery. The amounts of transported drugs and adsorbed metal ions were measured by HPLC(High Perfonnance Liquid Chromatography) and AAS(Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry), respectively. The addition of zinc acetate and aluminum acetate greatly enhanced the delivery of lidocaine. The detection of two metal ions by AAS seemed to support the idea that the astringency effect of these ions were the main reason for the enhancement of transdermal delivery.

  • Owing to its low cost, easy fabrication process, and good ionic properties, aqueous supercapacitors are under strong consideration as next-generation energy storage devices. However, the limitation of the current collector is its poor electrochemical stability, leading to low energy storage performance. Therefore, a reasonable design of the current collector and the acidic electrolyte is a necessary, as well as interfacial engineering to enhance the electrochemical performance. In the present study, graphite foil, with excellent electrochemical stability and good electrical properties, is suggested as a current collector of aqueous supercapacitors. This strategy results in excellent electrochemical performance, including a high specific capacitance of 215 F g-1 at a current density of 0.1 A g-1, a superior high-rate performance (104 F g-1 at a current density of 20.0 A g-1), and a remarkable cycling stability of 98 % at a current density of 10.0 A g-1 after 9,000 cycles. The superior energy storage performance is mainly ascribed to the improved ionic diffusion ability during cycling.

  • The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is very sluggish compared to the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Considering this difference is essential when designing and developing a cost-effective and facile synthesis method for a catalyst that can effectively perform OER activity. The material should possess a high surface area and more active sites. Considering these points, in this work we successfully synthesized sheets of cobalt phosphate hydrate (CP) and sulphurated cobalt phosphate hydrate (CPS) material, using simple successive ionic layered adsorption and reaction (SILAR) methods followed by sulfurization. The CP and CPS electrodes exhibited overpotentials of 279 mV with a Tafel slope of 212 mV dec-1 and 381 mV with a Tafel slope of 212 mV dec-1, respectively. The superior performance after sulfurization is attributed to the intrinsic activity of the deposited well-aligned nanosheet structures, which provided a substantial number of electrochemically active surface sites, speeded electron transfer, and at the same time improved the diffusion of the electrolyte.

  • Lithium lanthanum titanium oxide (LLTO) is a promising ceramic electrolyte because of its high ionic conductivity at room temperature, low electrical conductivity, and outstanding physical properties. Several routes for the synthesis of bulk LLTO are known, in particular, solid-state synthesis and sol-gel method. However, the extremely low ionic conductivity of LLTO at grain boundaries is one of the major problems for practical applications. To diminish the grain boundary effect, the structure of LLTO is tuned to nanoscale morphology with structures of different dimensionalities (0D spheres, and 1D tubes and wires); this strategy has great potential to enhance the ion conduction by intensifying Li diffusion and minimizing the grain boundary resistance. Therefore, in this work, 0D spherical LLTO is synthesized using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP). The USP method primarily yields spherical particles from the droplets generated by ultrasonic waves passed through several heating zones. LLTO is synthesized using USP, and the effects of each precursor and their mechanisms as well as synthesis parameters are analyzed and discussed to optimize the synthesis. The phase structure of the obtained materials is analyzed using X-ray diffraction, and their morphology and particle size are analyzed using field-emission scanning electron microscopy.
