  • A major portion of the capital costs in the present day power transmission systems are due to the cost of equipment and construction process. Transmission utilities in the recent years are drawing greater attention towards performing life cycle costing studies for cost management and decision making. However, the data involved in these studies are highly uncertain and the effect of these uncertainties cannot be directly included in the study process, resulting in inaccurate solutions. Interval mathematics provides a method for including these uncertainties throughout the cost analysis and provides final solution range in the form of intervals. In this regard, it is essential and extremely important that significant research has to be carried out in understanding the principles of life cycle costing methodology and its applicability to cost analysis of transmission lines along with uncertainties involved in the cost assessment process. In this paper, economic analysis of power transmission lines using interval mathematics has been studied. Life cycle costing studies are performed using net present value analysis on a range transmission lines used in India and the results are analyzed. A cost break even analysis considering right of way costs was carried out to determine the point of economy indifference.

  • The Adaboost chooses a good set of features in rounds. On each round, it chooses the optimal feature and its threshold value by minimizing the weighted error of classification. The involved process of classification performs a hard decision. In this paper, we expand the process of classification to a soft fuzzy decision. We believe this expansion could allow some flexibility to the Adaboost algorithm as well as a good performance especially when the size of a training data set is not large enough. The typical Adaboost algorithm assigns a same weight to each training datum on the first round of a training process. We propose a new algorithm to assign different initial weights based on some statistical properties of involved features. In experimental results, we assess that the proposed method shows higher performance than the traditional one.

  • Little has been known about the process of the language teacher professional development. The present study aims to investigate an assumption that anybody who has subject matter knowledge will be a good language teacher. A teacher with rich linguistic knowledge started to question the effectiveness of his online class. The teacher, in collaboration with a teacher trainer, became involved in the critical examination of his online class, seeking for more effective ways of teaching. The trainer provided the teacher with clinical supervision, which is characterized as developmental, collaborative, non-judgemental, interactive, and teacher-centered. The data collected at the multi-facets of the online teaching shows how the process of the teacher's decision-making became principled on the basis of recent developments in English language teaching, and how the teacher has gained pedagogical knowledge through reflection upon his teaching. The feedback from the students reveals that such teacher professional development is beneficial to student learning. These findings suggest that language teacher's professional development can take place when they are engaged in reflective teaching and classroom investigation. It is also suggested that the process of teacher development can be enhanced through collaborative supervision with trust, openness and congeniality between parties involved.

  • The sheet metal forming process is one of the most important manufacturing processes in the modern industry. From the view point of mechanics involved, it is very difficult to predict whether a newly designed sheet metal part can be formed without defects such as fracture, wrinkling and surface unevenness, etc. In order to reduce the effort taken in the trial-and-error process and to control the process effectively, a systematic method for process modeling is to required. The aim of sheet forming simulation through the process modeling is to reduce the lead time for die disign and manufacture by process modeling is to reduce the lead time for die design and manufacture by means of investigating the deformation mechanics and the mutual interaction between the process parameters. In this paper, the necessity, the present status, and the future technology about CAE of sheet forming simulation have been discussed.

  • In order to resolve the problems which appear after the clean large ingot production process, the impurities which are involved in the steel smelting process should be removed by developing cleaner materials. Through the rationalization of cogging process that is the first forging process of large ingot the quality is to be improved. For the sake of the optimization of an open die forging process and the improvement of the subject matter frequency ratio, a hazard precise die forging process must be developed and a Near Net Shape Forming accomplished. As a result, energy can be reduced by minimizing an after control process. In order to produce large axes and other forming parts, processing techniques are to be developed. In this context, this paper is a study about a reduction ratio, dies width ratio and rotary angles, the amount of overlap, and intends to analysis cogging processes, utilizing Deform-3D cogging module

  • Precision forming of electronic components has appeared to be competitive according to manufacturing cost and dimensional tolerances. Now domestic electronic companies have been involving in utilization of the finite element method in process design of precision forming. A forming process to produce an electronic component, aperture, has been inbestigated to find out forming defects during multi-operations. The applications of the commercial FEM software MARC show a possibility of defect in precision coining process among the whole multi-process. Thus the coining process of three-dimensional deformation is analyzed using DAMF-3D which has been developed in this lab with the rigid-plastic algorithm. The result f simulations by DAMF-3D provides clear description of the defect involved in the coining process.

  • Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic infection caused by Echinococcus granulosus larvae. It seriously affects the development of animal husbandry and endangers human health. Due to a poor understanding of the cystic fluid formation pathway, there is currently a lack of innovative methods for the prevention and treatment of CE. In this study, the protoscoleces (PSCs) in the encystation process were analyzed by high-throughput RNA sequencing. A total of 32,401 transcripts and 14,903 cDNAs revealed numbers of new genes and transcripts, stage-specific genes, and differently expressed genes. Genes encoding proteins involved in signaling pathways, such as putative G-protein coupled receptor, tyrosine kinases, and serine/threonine protein kinase, were predominantly up-regulated during the encystation process. Antioxidant enzymes included cytochrome c oxidase, thioredoxin glutathione, and glutathione peroxidase were a high expression level. Intriguingly, KEGG enrichment suggested that differentially up-regulated genes involved in the vasopressin-regulated water reabsorption metabolic pathway may play important roles in the transport of proteins, carbohydrates, and other substances. These results provide valuable information on the mechanism of cystic fluid production during the encystation process, and provide a basis for further studies on the molecular mechanisms of growth and development of PSCs.

  • Designing a complex system such as an LCD developing system becomes inefficient when many designers are involved and create their own parts even though they can be used repeatedly in other sections. Thus, this paper proposes a new design process that can maximize the number of common parts in complex system design by organizing the 3D design process. The proposed design process consists of 5 stages: analysis of design intention, definition of initial product structure, definition of skeleton model, sharing design intention with all assembles, control of correlation between components. The proposed design process can maximize common parts in design process, which results in shorter lead time, less production cost, and greater economic benefits.

  • With the announcement of Basel II Accord in 2004, worldwidebanks have been strengthening their risk management system. Under the circumstances, S became the first bank among other financial institutions in Korea to establish bank-wide BCP process that goes beyond the past Disaster Recovery Planning or DRP. Considering that the purpose of the process is to guarantee stability of work under the real disastrous situation, other banks are anticipated to introduce the process sooner or later to cope with any possible disaster and adhere Basel II Accord. The purpose of this thesis is to see how much impact does the work process or its improvement would have on employees' satisfaction level by considering Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) via Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and influence of BCP process implementation on parties involved.

  • To utilize the uranium resources contained in the spent nuclear fuel generated from the nuclear power plants, the remote handling and dismantling technology is required. The dismantling process of the sport fuel is the most common process involved in the spent fuel recycling, the rod consolidation and the disposal processes. Since the machine used in the dismantling process are located and operated in isolated space, so called a hot cell, the reliability of machines is very important. To enhance the reliability of the process, in this research, the graphical monitoring system is developed for the fuel dismantling process. The graphic model of each machine is composed of many parts and every parts of the graphic model are given their own kinematics. Using the kinematics and simulating the graphic model in the virtual environment, the validity of the conceptual design can be verified before ...
