  • The use of the zeros of Chebyshev polynomial of the first kind $T_{4n+4(x}$ ) and second kind $U_{2n+1}$ (x) for Gauss-Chebyshev quad-rature and collocation of singular integral equations of Cauchy type yields computationally accurate solutions over other combinations of $T_{n}$ /(x) and $U_{m}$(x) as in [8]. We show that the coefficient matrix of the overdetermined system has the generalized inverse. We estimate the residual error using the norm of the generalized inverse.e.

  • In a digital communication system, the transmission channel may introduce error into the digital signal being transmitted. It would be useful if a process could be devised so that the error could be removed in order to recover the transmitted digital signal. We design a corrective filter that is inverse filter, which will generate an output signal identical to the input signal. in order for two systems connected in cascade to produce an output which is identical to the input signal, the over-all unit sample response of the cascade connection must be a unit sample function.

  • Existing Differential GPS (DGPS) pseudorange correction (PRC) generation techniques based on a virtual reference station cannot effectively assign a weighting factor if the baseline distance between a user and a reference station is not long enough. In this study, a virtual reference station DGPS PRC generation technique was developed based on an enhanced inverse distance weighting method using an exponential function that can maximize a small baseline distance difference due to the dense arrangement of DGPS reference stations in South Korea, and its positioning performance was validated. For the performance verification, the performance of the model developed in this study (EIDW) was compared with those of typical inverse distance weighting (IDW), first- and second-order multiple linear regression analyses (Planar 1 and 2), the model of Abousalem (1996) (Ab_EXP), and the model of Kim (2013) (Kim_EXP). The model developed in the present study had a horizontal accuracy of 53 cm, and the positioning based on the second-order multiple linear regression analysis that showed the highest positioning accuracy among the existing models had a horizontal accuracy of 51 cm, indicating that they have similar levels of performance. Also, when positioning was performed using five reference stations, the horizontal accuracy of the developed model improved by 8 ~ 42% compared to those of the existing models. In particular, the bias was improved by up to 27 cm.

  • Modern super-tall buildings are more sensitive to strong winds. The evaluation of wind loads for the design of these buildings is of primary importance. A direct monitoring of wind forces acting on super-tall structures is quite difficult to be realized. Indirect measurements interpreted by inverse techniques are therefore favourable since dynamic response measurements are easier to be carried out. To this end, a Kalman filtering based inverse approach is developed in this study so as to estimate the wind loads on super-tall buildings based on limited structural responses. The optimum solution of Kalman filter gain by solving the Riccati equation is used to update the identification accuracy of external loads. The feasibility of the developed estimation method is investigated through the wind tunnel test of a typical super-tall building by using a Synchronous Multi-Pressure Scanning System. The effects of crucial factors such as the type of wind-induced response, the covariance matrix of noise, errors of structural modal parameters and levels of noise involved in the measurements on the wind load estimations are examined through detailed parametric study. The effects of the number of vibration modes on the identification quality are studied and discussed in detail. The made observations indicate that the proposed inverse approach is an effective tool for predicting the wind loads on super-tall buildings.

  • The inverse kinematics problem of a reclaimer which excavates and transports raw materials in a raw yard is investigated. Because of the geometric feature of the equipment in which scooping buckets are attached around the rotating disk, kinematic redundancy occurs in determining joint variable. Link coordinates are introduced following the Denavit-Hartenbery representation. For a given excavation point the forward kinematics yields 3 equations, however the number of involved joint variables in the equations is four. It is shown that the rotating disk at the end of the boom provides an extra passive degree of freedom. Two approaches are investigated in obtaining inverse kinematics solutions. The first method pre-assigns the height of excavation point which can be determined through path planning. A closed form solution is obtained for the first approach. The second method exploits the orthogonality between the normal vector at the excavation point and the z axis of the end-effector coordinate system. The geometry near the reclaiming point has been approximated as a plane, and the plane equation has been obtained by the least square method considering 8 adjacent points near the point. A closed form solution is not found for the second approach, however a linear approximate solution is provided.

  • In this paper, stabilization inverse optimal control for nonlinear systems with structural uncertainty is considered. Based on the control Lyapunov function, a theorem for the globally asymptotic stability is presented. From this a less conservative condition for the inverse optimal control is derived. The result is used to design an inverse optimal controller for a class of nonlinear systems, that improves and extends the existing results. The class of nonlinear system considered is also enlarger. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the method.

  • A method is proposed to estimate aquifer parameters in a heterogeneous and anisotropic aquifer under steady-state groundwater flow conditions on the basis of maximum likelihood concept. Zonation method is adopted for parameterization, and estimation errors are analyzed by examining the estimation error covariance matrix in the eigenspace. This study demonstrates the ability of the proposed model to estimate parameters and helps to understand the characteristics of the inverse problem. This study also explores various features of the inverse methodology by applying it to a set of field data of the Taegu area. In the field example, transmissivities were estimated under three different zonation patterns. Recharge rates in the Taegu area were also estimated using MODINV which is an inverse model compatible with MODFLOW.The estimation results indicate that anisotropy of aquifer parameters should be considered for the crystalline rock aquifer which is the dominant aquifer system in Korea.

  • Cross-talk cancellation, inverse filter design or deconvolution in a generic term, is a vital process for a virtual sound realization in the stereo sound reproduction system. Most, if not all, of the design algorithms available for the inverse filter are based on a linearized model of the real physical plant. The result of such a plant-based design method, which may be referred to here as the indirect method, is biased due to both modelling and inversion errors. This paper presents a novel direct cross-talk cancellation method that may be free from the inversion error. The direct method can directly models the inverse filter by a suitable rearrangement of the input and output ports of the original plant so that no inversion is required here. Advantages are discussed with various experiments in an anechoic chamber using a PC soundcard. Binaural reproduction tests conducted showed that the conventional indirect method yields about 8 % reproduction performance error on both ear positions, whereas the direct method offers about 3 %.

  • The humanoid robot, DRC-HUBO is developed from the KHR (KAIST Humanoid Robot) series to meet the requirements of the DARPA Robotics Challenge. DARPA Robotics Challenge was a competition to develop semi-autonomous humanoid robot so that dispatched in dangerous environments in place of humans like the Fukushima nuclear accident. In this paper, we introduce DRCH-UBO briefly and a methodology to remove debris blocking an entryway. The methodology includes inverse kinematics for DRC-HUBO and stabilization controller based on ZMP. Proposed inverse kinematics is robust, and pelvis-related tasks improve the manipulability and workspace of the arms. The controller improves the damping characteristic of the system and mitigates the instability during removal of debris. For given position and orientation of the debris, DRC-HUBO generates motion to reach the debris and lift up while stabilizing itself. Many experimental results verify our proposed methodology.

  • This paper is concerned on kinematic analysis and simulation of an automatic feeding mechanism and a curved inverse earn. The main objective is the development 0 fan algorithm of the earn-feeding mechanism and a CAD program. The computer program CACAFS (Computer-Aided Cam and Automatic Feeding System) is developed by using the state-of-the-art for CAD. Thus, the program CACAFS is independent of computer hardwares and also interactive. As the second part of paper, this paper introduces the technique for the mechanism simulation and graphics-oriented CAD programming. The first part of r paper presents the algorithm to analyze the motion of the inverse earn and the automatic feeding mechanism.
