  • A LQG/LTR(linear quadratic Gaussian/loop transfer recovery) controller with an integrator is designed to control the electro-hydraulic positioning system. Without considering the nonlinearity in the dead-zone, computer simulations are performed and show good performances and tracking abilities with the feedback controller based on the linear system model. However, the performance of the closed loop hydraulic positioning system shows big steady-state error in real system because of the dead-zone. In this paper, the feedback controller with a nonlinear compensator is introduced to overcome the dead-zone phenomenon in hydraulic systems. The inverse dead-zone as a nonlinear compensator is used to cancel out the dead-zone phenomenon. Experimental tests are performed to verify the performance of the controller.

  • The bubble size distribution is critical information to understand sound propagation and ambient noise in the ocean. To estimate the bubble size distribution in a bubbly water, the sound attenuation has been only in the conventional acoustic bubble sizing method without considering the sound speed variation. However, the effect of the sound speed variation in bubbly water cannot be neglected because of its compressibility variation. The sound attenuation is also affected by the sound speed variation. In this paper, a coherent acoustic bubble sizing inverse technique is introduced as a new bubble sizing technique with considering sound speed variation as well as the sound attenuation. This coherent sizing method is theoretically verified with the bubble distribution functions of single-size, Gaussian, and power-law functions. Its numerical test results with the coherent acoustic bubble sizing method show good agreement with the given bubble distributions.

  • This paper provides the end-point positioning of a single-link flexible robot arm by inverse dynamics. The system is composed of a flexible arm, the mobile ballscrew stage as an arm base, a DC servomotor as an actuator, and a computer. Actuator voltages required for the model of a flexible arm to follow a given tip trajectory are formulated on the basis of the Bermoullie-Euler beam theory and solved by applying the Laplace transform method, and computed by the numerical inversion method proposed by Weeks. The mobile stage as the arm base is shifted so that the end-point follows the desired trajectories. Then the trajectory of end-point is measured by the laser displacement sensor. Here, two kinds of functions are chosen for the given tip trajectories. One is what is called the bang-bang acceleration profile and the other is the Gaussian velocity profile.

  • This paper proposes a method of separately determining three intrinsic mechanical parameters of an unknown object in the framework of ultrasound inverse scattering tomography. Those parameters are the speed of sound, density, and absorption whose values are given as the solution of an inhomogeneous Helmholtz wave equation. The separate reconstruction method is mathematically formulated, the integral equations are discretized using the sinc basis functions, and the Newton-Raphson method is adopted as a numerical solver in a measurement configuration where the object is insonified by an incident plane wave over 360˚ and the scattered field is measured by detectors arranged in a rectangular fashion around it. Two distinct frequencies are used to separate each parameter of three Gaussian objects that are either located at the same position or separately from each other. Computer simulation results show that the separate reconstruction method is able to separately reconstruct the three mechanical parameters. The absorption parameter turns out to be a little difficult to reconstruct as compared with the other two parameters.

  • There are several methods which have been presented up to now in solving the simultaneous linear equations by computer. They are Gaussian Elimination Method, Gauss-Jordan Method, Inverse matrix Method and Gauss-Seidel iterative Method. This paper is not only discussed in their mechanisms compared with their algorithms, depicted flow charts, but also calculated the numbers of arithmetic operations and comparisons in order to criticize their availability. Inverse Matrix Method among em is founded out the smallest in the number of arithmetic operation, but is not the shortest operation time. This paper also indicates the many problems in using these methods and propose the new method which is able to applicate to even small or middle size computers.

  • A new identification algorithm for the Preisach model is presented. The algorithm treats the identification procedure of the Preisach model as an inverse problem where the independent variables are parameters of the distribution function and the objective function is constructed using only the initial magnetization curve or only tile major loop of the hysteresis curve as well as the whole reversal curves. To parameterize the distribution function, the Bezier spline and Gaussian function are used for the coercive and interaction fields axes, respectively. The presented algorithm is applied to the ferrite permanent magnets, and the distribution functions are correctly found from the major loop of the hysteresis curve or the initial magnetization curve.

  • This paper investigates the use of the inverse-free sparse Bayesian learning (SBL) approach for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)-based multiuser massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The Bayesian inference method employs a truncated Gaussian mixture prior for the sought-after low-PAPR signal. To learn the prior signal, associated hyperparameters and underlying statistical parameters, we use the variational expectation-maximization (EM) iterative algorithm. The matrix inversion involved in the expectation step (E-step) is averted by invoking a relaxed evidence lower bound (relaxed-ELBO). The resulting inverse-free SBL algorithm has a much lower complexity than the standard SBL algorithm. Numerical experiments confirm the substantial improvement over existing methods in terms of PAPR reduction for different MIMO configurations.

  • In this paper, we present a novel apodization technique using three beams to fabricate an apodized grating in photopolymer. An orthogonal-polarization beam used to control the saturated modulation amplitude of the grating is added during recording time. As a result of the experiment, holographic apodized gratings with uniform, inverse Gaussian, and triangular profiles are fabricated successfully in DuPont's HRF-150-38 photopolymer.
