  • This paper addresses the way to compose paronamic images from images taken the same objects. With the spread of digital camera, the panoramic image has been studied to generate with its interest. In this paper, we propose a panoramic image generation method using scaling and rotation invariant features. First, feature points are extracted from input images and matched with a RANSAC algorithm. Then, after the perspective model is estimated, the input image is registered with this model. Since the SURF feature extraction algorithm is adapted, the proposed method is robust against geometric distortions such as scaling and rotation. Also, the improvement of computational cost is achieved. In the experiment, the SURF feature in the proposed method is compared with features from Harris corner detector or the SIFT algorithm. The proposed method is tested by generating panoramic images using $640{\times}480$ images. Results show that it takes 0.4 second in average for computation and is more efficient than other schemes.

  • MPEG-7 standardization work has started with the aims of providing fundamental tools for describing multimedia contents. MPEG-7 defines the syntax and semantics of descriptors and description schemes so that they may be used as fundamental tools for multimedia content description. In this paper, we introduce a texture based image description and retrieval method, which is adopted as the homogeneous texture descriptor in the visual part of the MPEG-7 final committee draft. The current MPEG-7 homogeneous texture descriptor consists of the mean, the standard deviation value of an image, energy, and energy deviation values of Fourier transform of the image. These are extracted from partitioned frequency channels based on the human visual system (HVS). For reliable extraction of the texture descriptor, Radon transformation is employed. This is suitable for HVS behavior. We also introduce various matching methods; for example, intensity-invariant, rotation-invariant and/or scale-invariant matching. This technique retrieves relevant texture images when the user gives a querying texture image. In order to show the promising performance of the texture descriptor, we take the experimental results with the MPEG-7 test sets. Experimental results show that the MPEG-7 texture descriptor gives an efficient and effective retrieval rate. Furthermore, it gives fast feature extraction time for constructing the texture descriptor.

  • For the recognizing system to be classified the same or different images in the nature the rotation, scale and transition invariant features is to be necessary. There are many investigations to get the feature for the recognition system and the log-polar transform which is to be get the invariant feature for the scale and rotation is used. In this paper, we suggested the character recognition methods which are used the centroid method and the log-polar transform with the interpolation to get invariant features for the character recognition system and obtained the results of the above 50% differential ratio for the character features. And we obtained the about 90% recognition ratio from the suggested character recognition system using the BPEJTC which is used the invariant feature from the Mellin transform method for the reference image. and can be recognized the scaled and rotated input character. Therefore, we suggested the image character recognition system using the Mellin transform method and the BPEJTC is possible to recognize with the invariant feature for rotation scale and transition.

  • A fuzzy weighted mean method on a 2D shape recognition system is introduced in this paper. The bispectrum based on third order cumulant is applied to the contour sequence of each image for the extraction of a feature vector. This bispectral feature vector, which is invariant to shape translation, rotation and scale, represents a 2D planar image. However, to obtain the best performance, it should be considered certain criterion on the calculation of weights for the fuzzy weighted mean method. Therefore, a new method to calculate weights using means by differences of feature values and their variances with the maximum distance from differences of feature values. is developed. In the experiments, the recognition results with fifteen dimensional bispectral feature vectors, which are extracted from 11.808 aircraft images based on eight different styles of reference images, are compared and analyzed.

  • In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient retrieval technique using the feature value of the corner region, which is one of the shape information attributes of images. The proposed algorithm extracts the edges and corner points of the image and rearranges the feature values of the corner regions doubly, and then measures the similarity with the image in the database using the correlation of these feature values as the feature vector. The proposed algorithm is confirmed to be more robust to rotation and size change than the conventional image retrieval method using the corner point.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient feature extraction and image retrieval algorithm for content-based retrieval method. First, we extract the object using Gaussian edge detector for input image which is key frames of MPEG video and extract the object features that are location feature, distributed dimension feature and invariant moments feature. Next, we extract the characteristic color feature using the proposed HAQ(Histogram Analysis md Quantization) algorithm. Finally, we implement an retrieval of four features in sequence with the proposed matching method for query image which is a shot frame except the key frames of MPEG video. The purpose of this paper is to propose the novel content-based image retrieval algerian which retrieves the key frame in the shot boundary of MPEG video belonging to the scene requested by user. The experimental results show an efficient retrieval for 836 sample images in 10 music videos using the proposed algorithm.

  • Content-based image retrieval is the research of images from database, that are visually similar to given image examples. Gabor functions and Gabor filters are regarded as excellent methods for feature extraction and texture segmentation. However, they have a disadvantage not to perform well in case of a rotated image because of its direction-oriented filter. This paper proposes a method of extracting local texture features from blocks with central interest points detected in an image and a rotation invariant Gabor wavelet filter. We also propose a method of comparing pattern histograms of features classified by VQ (Vector Quantization) among images.

  • Face recognition is considered a complex biometrics in the field of image processing mainly due to the constraints imposed by variation in the appearance of facial images. These variations in appearance are affected by differences in expressions and/or occlusions (sunglasses, scarf etc.). This paper discusses incremental Kernel Fisher Discriminate Analysis on sub-classes for dealing with partial occlusions and variant expressions. This framework focuses on the division of classes into fixed size sub-classes for effective feature extraction. For this purpose, it modifies the traditional Linear Discriminant Analysis into incremental approach in the kernel space. Experiments are performed on AR, ORL, Yale B and MIT-CBCL face databases. The results show a significant improvement in face recognition.

  • Object tracking is a common vision task to detect and trace objects between consecutive frames. It is also important for a variety of applications such as surveillance, video based traffic monitoring system, and so on. An efficient moving vehicle clustering and tracking algorithm suitable for traffic monitoring system is proposed in this paper. First, automatic background extraction method is used to get a reliable background as a reference. The moving blob(object) is then separated from the background by mean shift method. Second, the scale invariant feature based method extracts the salient features from the clustered foreground blob. It is robust to change the illumination, scale, and affine shape. The simulation results on various road situations demonstrate good performance achieved by proposed method.

  • This paper explains the hardware structure of SURF(Speeded Up Robust Feature) based feature point extractor and its FPGA verification result. SURF algorithm produces novel scale- and rotation-invariant feature point and descriptor which can be used for object recognition, creation of panorama image, 3D Image restoration. But the feature point extraction processing takes approximately 7,200msec for VGA-resolution in embedded environment using ARM11(667Mhz) processor and 128Mbytes DDR memory, hence its real-time operation is not guaranteed. We analyzed integral image memory access pattern which is a key component of SURF algorithm to reduce memory access and memory usage to operate in c real-time. We assure feature extraction that using a Vertex-5 FPGA gives 60frame/sec of VGA image at 100Mhz.
