In general, forecast tsunami heights announced for tsunami warning are computed by using a linear tsunami model with coarse grids which leads the underestimation of inundation area. Thus, an accurate tsunami inundation map corresponding the forecast tsunami height is needed for an emergency evacuation plan. A practical way to construct a relatively accurate tsunami inundation map was proposed in this study for the quantitative forecast of inundation area. This procedure can be introduced as in the followings: The fault dislocations of potential tsunami sources generating a specific tsunami height near an interested area are found by using a linear tsunami model. Based on these fault dislocations, maximum inundation envelops of the interested area are computed and illustrated by using nonlinear inundation numerical model. In this study, the tsunami inundation map for Imwon area was constructed according to 11 potential tsunami sources, and the validity of this process was examined.
Recently the natural damage associated with flood disaster has been dramatically increased. Especially, inundation in the urban area causes serious damage to people and assets because of the concentration of infrastructure and population growth. The purpose of this study is to develop a new urban inundation model combining a storm sewer system model and a 2D overland-flow model for the estimation inundation depth In urban area caused by the surcharge of storm sewers. The movement of water in the studied urban watershed is characterized by two components, namely, the storm sewer flow component and the surcharge-induced inundation component. The model was applied to Goonja and Jangan catchments. Inundated depths were presented to demonstrate model simulation results. The simulation results can help the authority decide preventing flood damages by redesigning and enlarging the capacities of storm sewer systems in the inundation-prone areas. The model can also be applied to make the potential inundation area map and establish flood-mitigation measures as a part of the decision support system for flood control authority.

A storm-induced coastal inundation model (SICIM) is presented to simulate the flood event during typhoon passage that often results in significant rise in sea-level heights especially in the upstream region of the basin. The SICIM is a GIS-based distributed hydrodynamic model, both storm surge and storm water inundations are taken into account. The spatial and temporal distribution of the storm water level and flux are calculated. The model was applied to Jeju Island since it has an isolated watershed that is easy to handle as a first step of model application. Another reason is that it is surrounded by coastal area exposed to storm surge inundation. The model is still advancing and will be the framework of a predictive early inundation warning system.

The flood damage shows different types in natural river watershed and in urban drainage watershed. In recent, increasing of the impervious area gives rise to short concentration time and high peak discharge comparing with natural watershed and it is a cause of urban flood damage. In this paper, we use a XP-SWMM model developed based on EPA-SWMM version for analyzing the inundation area, inundation depth and inundation area considering building effect. The two events(2005.06, 2005.07) has been used for the validation of model. HEC-RAS model has been applied for simulation of changing water level, and the results has been used for calculating area of the inundation. The observed inundation area(21.41 ha) in August, 1998 was in good agreement with the simulated value(23.45 ha) of XPSWMM model. An influence of inundation area considering building effects has been analized by the DTM of XP-SWMM model.

The purpose of this study is to develop an urban inundation model using GIS(geographic information system). The model is combining a storm sewer system model and a overland-flow model for the estimation inundation depth in urban area caused by the surcharge of storm sewers. SWMM(storm water management model) was employed to resolve the storm sewer flow and to provide the overflow hydrographs caused by the failure of a drainage system due to the shortage of drainage capacity. The level-pool overland-flow model and DEM based overland-flow model were used to calculate the detail inundation zones and depths due to the surcharge on overland surface. The simulation results can help the decision preventing flood damages by redesigning and enlarging the capacities of storm sewer systems in the inundation-prone areas. The model can also be applied to make the potential inundation area map and establish flood-mitigation measures as a part of the decision support system for flood control authority.

In this study, the future flood inundation changes under a climate change were simulated in the Tonle Sap basin in Cambodia, one of the countries with high vulnerability to climate change. For the flood inundation simulation using the rainfall-runoff-inundation (RRI) model, globally available geological data (digital elevation model [DEM]; hydrological data and maps based on Shuttle elevation derivatives [HydroSHED]; land cover: Global land cover facility-moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer [GLCF-MODIS]), rainfall data (Asian precipitation-highly-resolved observational data integration towards evaluation [APHRODITE]), climate change scenario (HadGEM3-RA), and observational water level (Kratie, Koh Khel, Neak Luong st.) were constructed. The future runoff from the Kratie station, the upper boundary condition of the RRI model, was constructed to be predicted using the long short-term memory (LSTM) model. Based on the results predicted by the LSTM model, a total of 4 cases were selected (representative concentration pathway [RCP] 4.5: 2035, 2075; RCP 8.5: 2051, 2072) with the largest annual average runoff by period and scenario. The results of the analysis of the future flood inundation in the Tonle Sap basin were compared with the results of previous studies. Unlike in the past, when the change in the depth of inundation changed to a range of about 1 to 10 meters during the 1997 - 2005 period, it occurred in a range of about 5 to 9 meters during the future period. The results show that in the future RCP 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios, the variability of discharge is reduced compared to the past and that climate change could change the runoff patterns of the Tonle Sap basin.
Population congestion and increasing porosity caused by urbanization and increasing rainfall intensity are the main reasons for urban inundation damage. In order to reduce the damage to urban flooding, it is necessary to take a inundation analysis model that can be considered the topographic impact (i.e., building and road) and simulate the detailed inundation areas. In this study, Grid based Inundation Analysis Model (GIAM) is developed using a two-dimensional shallow water equations. The study area is Gangnam basin, with a surface area of $7.4km^2$, which includes 5 drainage areas such as Nonhyun, Yeoksam, Seocho 1, 2, and 3. EPA SWMM5 is used for simulating the overflows at each manhole. GIAM model is constructed to allow for simulating a inundation area with 6 m grid size. The inundation analysis is conducted in two heavy rainfall events (Sep. 21, 2010 and July 27, 2011) for the model evaluation. The accuracy of the simulated inundation area is calculated 0.61 and 0.57 at POD index using the historical flooded area report. The developed model will be used as a tool for analyzing the flood prone areas based on rainfall scenario, and a tool for predicting the detailed inundation area in the real-time.

In general, coastal damage is mostly occurred by the action of complex factors, like severe water waves. If the maximum storm surge height combines with high tide, severe water waves will overflow coastal structures. Consequently, it can be the cause of lost lives and severe property damage. In this study, using the numerical model, the storm surge was simulated to examine its fluctuation characteristics at the coast in front of Noksan industrial complex, Korea. Moreover, the shallow water wave is estimated by applying wind field, design water level considering storm surge height for typhoon Maemi to SWAN model. Under the condition of shallow water wave, obtained by the SWAN model, the wave overtopping rate for the dike in front of Noksan industrial complex is calculated a hydraulic model test. Finally, based on the calculated wave-overtopping rate, the inundation regime for Noksan industrial complex was predicted. And, numerically predicted inundation regimes and depths are compared with results in a field survey, and the results agree fairly well. Therefore, the inundation modelthis study is a useful tool for predicting inundation regime, due to the coastal flood of severe water wave.
FIAS(Flood Inundation Analysis System) using Arc/Info is developed and applied to the Namhan River basin. The DWOPER model is revised and expanded to handle simultaneous multiple overtopping and/or breaking, and to estimate the inundated depth and extents. The model is applied to an actual levee overtopping case, which occurred on August 23∼27, 1995 in the Namhan River. Stage hydrographs inside and outside of the levee are compared, then inundated discharges from overbank spilling are computed. The Graphic User interface is developed with AML. Two- and three-dimensional inundation map by Arc/Info are presented. The computed inundation extends agree with observations in terms of inundated depth and flooded area. The FIAS is useful for the analysis of flood hazards and preparation of inundation map for river basins.
This study simulated the flood inundations of the Nakdong River catchment running through Yangsan, a small city located in the south eastern area of Korea by using the depth averaged two-dimensional hydrodynamic numerical model. The numerical model employs the staggered grid system including moving boundary and a finite different method to solve the Saint-Venant equations. A second order upwind scheme is used to discretize the nonlinear convection terms of the momentum equations, whereas linear terms are discretized by a first order leap-frog scheme(Cho and Yoon, 1998). The numerical model was applied to a real topography to simulate the flood inundation of the Yangsan basin. The numerical results for urban district are visualized in three dimension. These results can be essentially utilized to construct the three dimensional inundation map after building the GIS-based database in local public organizations in order to protect the life and property safely.
