This excrement was conducted to investigate the nuisance of swine excrement. And excrements were collected from 27 heads of swine Euseong swine breeding center and Hongdo-dong swine farm and amounts of faces and urine, nitrogen, phosphorus, and kalium contents and number of parasite were investigated, and for the purpose to clean of excrementing matter, ferment substance and moist soil added to swine excreting matter and floating matter. Heat decresement amount and biological oxygen demand were investigated. And the result obtained were as follows. 1) Average amount of daily excreting faces per swine was 500-2700g from Euseong swine breeding center and 450-2500g from Hongdo-dong swine farm and a mount of excreting urine was 450-4500g from both of farms. The rate of excrements between faeces and urine was 1:1 2) Nitrogen contents were 0.802 ppm in urine and 0.514 ppm in faces, phosphorus were 2.261 % in urine and 0.073% in faeces and kalium contents were 1.094% in and 6.0467% in faeces. 3) Strongyloides ransomi and intestinal modular worm eggs showed the highest of eggs number was the result of observation in parasites, and ascaris showed the next it, whip worm and lung worm showed the lowest. 4) The effect ferment substance additive, amount of dry matter, floating matter, heat decreasement amount and biological oxygen demand was decreased but not significant was appeared. And the effect of moist soil additive, it was more effective that fermented substance additive for the fermentation of swine excrement.
A survey of the internal parasites in 115 fishes of Ophicephalus argus was carried out in Kyungpook province during the period from January 1995 to November 1997. A species of trematode from the stomach and a species of nematode from the caeca of the fishes was discovered respectively. The trematode was identified as Azygia hwangtsinyi (Tsin, 1993) and the nematode as Pingus sinensis ($Hs\ddot{u}$, 1993). The fluke was pressed at thick of 0.1mm~0.2mm between slide glasses and fixed in 70% ethyl alcohol solution. The fluke was washed with tap water after fixation and stained with hematoxylin-carmin and mounted in balsam through routine methods. The nematode was fixed in 5% formalin solution and mounted with lactophnol or glycerine jelly. Morphology : Arygia hwantsinyi ; The fluke is elongate body with approximately parallel margins and rounded extremities in pressed preparations(Fig 1). The cuticle is unarmed. The oral sucker is ventro-subterminal in position. The ventral sucker is slightly smaller than oral sucker and positioned at 14.2% of body length from the oral sucker. The cirrus sac and genital pore is in mid-ventral line, slightly anterior to the ventral sucker. The oral sucker is succeeded by a well developed muscular pharynx. It is succeeded by a short inverted Y-shaped oesophagus. The inner wall of oesophagus is consisted of many fine folded membrane. The fine tubes of esophagus pass into the intestinal heads which are distended and presented a marked borderline between the fine tube and intestinal heads. The Intestinal heads start at level of pharynx and pass caudad in a zigzag course to end quite near caudal margin. The uterine coils occupy the intercecal area between the level of the cephalic margin of the ovary and about the level of the ventral sucker. The uterus is filled with many eggs. The testes are round or oval and placed one behind the other generally a little diagonally. The posterior testis is placed at level of 75.1% of body length. The ovary is oval, placed ahead the anterior testis. The shell gland not discernible outline is contacted with ovary ahead it. The vitelline glands are consisted of small oval vesicles. The vesicles occupy extracecal regions and between a little posterior of the ventral sucker and near caudal margin. Pingus sinensis : Female ; The cuticle is smooth and the cervical alae are well developed. The mouth opening is small, triangular, and without lips. The anterior end bears four sub-medial papillae. The oesophagus is divided into a muscular and glandular portion. The nerve ring is situated just at the junction of the muscular and glandular portions of the oesophagus. The vulva which has a prominent flap, is placed behind the middle of the body about one-third of the length of the worm from the posterior extremity. The vagina is strongly muscularised and after running anteriorly about $68{\mu}$, divides itself into two broad uterine tubes with an anterior and a posterior one. There are a few eggs in the uterine tubes. The tail is slender, straight and pointed. The ovary extends almost to the posterior extremity. Male : Male is smaller than female. The tail is pointed, curved and carrying well-developed caudal alae. A prominent muscular precloacal sucker is characteristic. The spicules are equal and short. There are four pairs of pedunculated pre-anal papillae, of which the most anterior pair are situated just at the level anterior to the muscular sucker. Two pairs of pedunculated papillae are present before the anus. There are five pairs of post-anal papillae of which the most anterior pair and the second counted from the posterior end are ventral and more marked than the ones which are situated laterally.
The ultrastructural changes of cuticular surface, excretory and digestive organs of Anisakis simplex larvae chronologically recovered from experimental cats were observed with a SEM and TEM. The larva recovered from an experimental cat at 3 days post-infection (PI) retained the cuticular surface with regular transverse striations and a longitudinal groove on the lateral side of body. This finding suggests that the molting of the 3rd stage larva of A. simplex to 4th one occurred from the 3rd day after infection in cats. The excretory organ (renette cell) consisted of a large cell with numerous ductules ramified from the main duct, mitochondria and secretory granules in cytoplasm. Secretory granules in the renette cell of larvae recovered at 24 hours PI were round whereas those of control and larvae recovered at 6 hours PI were amorphous. Muscular esophagus and ventriculus also retained many secretory granules in the cytoplasm. The secretory granules in these organs of larvae recovered at $6\sim24$ hours PI were electron-dense and widely distributed whereas those of control worm were packed in a pocket and retained various electron densities. In the cytoplasm of intestinal epithelial cells, numerous fine glycogen particles and mitochondria were distributed. The chronological changes of secretory granules in renette cell, muscular esophagus and ventriculus seem to be related with the worm penetration into host tissue.
An experimental study was carried out to observe the susceptibility of several kinds of laboratory animals to Fibricola seoulensis infection, a diplostomatid fluke of mammals. The metacercariae were obtained from the viscera of the snakes, Natrix tigrina lateralis and 50~2,000 in number each was artificially fed to a total of 127 animals; albino rats, mice, dogs, cats, rabbits and chickens. After 3 days to 8 weeks the animals were sacrificed and the recovery rate of worms as well as their maturity was observed. The results are as follows: 1. The overall worm recovery rates throughout the experimental period was highest in albino rats (40.0%) followed by mice (33.9%), cats (20.9%), dogs (11.4%), rabbits (0.05%) and chickens (0%). However, the recovery rates in the same host decreased as infection progressed longer and variable by the amount of metacercariae given. 2. From albino rats and mice, the highest recovery rates were obtained in 1,000 and 200-metacercariae infection groups respectively, and it is considered that such amount should be the optimum dose for experimental infection of these animals. 3. The main location of F. seoulensis in experimental animals was small intestine especially the duodenum. 4. The maturity index (No. mature worms/ No. examined) was 100% in albino rats and mice, while only 22.7% or 0% in dogs or cats respectively. From the results, it is concluded that albino rats and mice are the most susceptible hosts for F. seoulensis infection among six kinds of laboratory animals examined.
The therapeutic effects of praziquantel on Fibricola seoulensis infection were studied by experimental infection of albino rats with the metacercariae obtained from the snakes. Total 51 albino rats were infected each with 500 or 1, 000 meta cercariae in number through intragastric tubes. One or four weeks la er the rats were treated with 1, 5, 10 or 20 mg/kg single dose of prazipuantel and sacrificed after 3 days or 10-120 minutes to search for the worms in their small intestine. The worm recovery rate at 3 days after the treatment was 10.7 % in 1 mg/kg dose group and o. 03~0.2% in 5, 10 and 20 mg/kg groups, while that of untreated control was 51. 3%. The minimum effective dose to treat F. seoulensis infection in the rats is considered to be 5 mg/kg in single dose. By observing the distribution pattern of worms in the small intestine after the treatment, dislodgement of the worms from the duodenum, their normal habitat, to the lower portions was recognizable within as early as 10 minutes. The majority of worms was found to have descended to the ileo-caecal portion after 60-120 minutes.

Albendazole is a broad spectrum anthelmintics with high activity against intestinal nematodes as well as tremtodes and cestodes infections. But so far wormicidal effect of albendazole against Paragonimus westermani is uncertain. The present study undertaken to observe the morphological changes of Paragonimus westermani which was obtained from experimentally infected with metacercariae isolated from Cambaroides similis and 9 of them were given albendazole 2 doses of 25mg/kg daily for the 2 days and 4 days from the day of 20 weeks after infection. The Paragonimus werms were collected from the lung of the cats which were autopsied at 24 hours after treatment. The fine structures of the collected worms were studied by means of scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The findings of the observations were compared with those of untreated worms. The results are as follows : 1) In the scanning electron microscopic(SEM) observations, the worms obtained from 2 days treated group showed many blebs which were formed on the surface of damaged tegument in between two suckers. Protrusion of oral sucker typically observed and surrounding tegumental ridges were damaged. 2) The worms obtained from 4 days treated group showed marked contraction revealing half size of normal worms. 3) The transmission electronmicroscopic(TEM) observations indicated that large blebs of irregular shapes were formed by the destruction of tegumental ridge of tegumental syncytium and also showed degeneration of mitochondriae. 4) Destruction of tegumental syncytium formation of blebs were usually observed in the ventral side of the worms. 5) Differentiation of tegumental layer and basement layer muscular layer and parenchymal layer around two suckers of worms obtained at 4 days treated group was difficult. 6) Many host cells invaded and destroyed the degenerated tegument by the occurrence of blebs or the exposed muscular layer of the worm after exfoliation of the tegument.
Gymnophclloides seoi is a human intestinal trematode prevalent on southwestern islands in Korea. In the present study, we investigated whether G. seoi metacercariae can grow and develop into adults by in vitro cultivation. The metacercariae were obtained from naturally infected oysters, and cultured in uitro for 5 days under three conditions; $37^{\circ}C/5%{\;}CO_2,{\;}41^{\circ}C/8%{\;}CO_2,{\;}or{\;}41^{\circ}C/15%{\;}CO_2$, in NCTC 109 complete media containing 20% FBS and 1% antibiotics-antimycotics. The degree of worm growth and development was compared with that grown in uiuo of C3H mice. The length of the worms cultivated in uitro was $200-300{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$, not significantly different from metacercariae, whereas the length of the worms recovered from C3H mice was significantly larger, $300-400{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$. The worms produced eggs when grown in C3H mice or cultured in vitro for 2 days under $41^{\circ}C/8%{\;}CO_2{\;}or{\;}41^{\circ}C/5%{\;}CO_2$, but not when cultured under 37$^{\circ}C/5%{\;}CO_2$. Among the in vitro conditions, $41^{\circ}C/15%{\;}CO_2$ was best for egg Production, although the number of eggs was about half of worms obtained from C3H mice. In conclusion, in vitro cultivation of G. semi metacercariae into egg-pioducing adults was partially successful under culture conditions of $41^{\circ}C/5%{\;}CO_2{\;}or{\;}41^{\circ}C/8%{\;}CO_2$.
Mccroorchis spinuLosw Ando, 1918 (Digenea: Nanophyetidael is redescribed based on adult flukes recovered from experimental mice, rats and cats which were fed with metacercariae encysted in the muscle of the crayfish, Cambnroines similis. A total of 117 adult flukes were harvested from the small intestine of the experimental animals at S-21 days post-infection. The worm recovery rate was 31-37%, not significantly different among the three kinds of animals. The metacercariae were round, 0.18 mm in average diameter, encysted with two layers of thick walls, and possessing a stylets on the oral sucker and Y- shaped exc retory bladder. The adult flukes were oval, 0.66-0.71 mm long and 0.36-0.41 mm wide, and characterized by the presence of a stylet on the oral sucker, variable location of the ovary near the mid-portion of the body, bilobed seminal vesicle, and anterolateral location of two testes. These morphological features were a little different from the original description, hence, an emended version of M. spinulosw was given. M. spinuLosw is a new intestinal trematode of animals and possibly man in Korea.
The present study intended to evaluate the influences of MetagonimMi yokogawai on the activities of brush border membrane bound enzymes of the small intestine. Mice were infected with 500 metacercariae respectively, and the worm recovery, morphological changes and enzyme activities were observed chronologically. A part of them were followed after the treatment. Recovered worms decreased in number continuously after the infection, and they were less than 10% after 2 weeks and almost Bero after 28 weeks. Villous atrophy and stromal inflammation were found at two locations of the proximal jejunum from 2 weeks to 4 weeks after the infection. The enzymes, alkaline phosphatase, leucine aminopeptidase and disaccharidases (sucrase, lactase, maltase, and trehalase), showed lowered activities in the duodenum and proximal jejunum of the infected mice but they increased in the distal jejunum for the first two weeks. From three weeks after the infection, the activities were gradually recovered. In one week treated mice, they recovered the activities at 2 weeks from the treatment, but there found no differences of the activities between the 3 week treated group and infected controls. The present data reveal that M. yckogawai infection induces degenerative changes of the host's intestinal mucosa not only morphologically but functionally during the initial phase of infection. The lowered enzyme activities in acute metagonimiasis should be associated with malabsorption and diarrhea.

Earthworm casting was the natural fertilizer that contained high concentrations of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphate and potassium and of over $10^8$ CFU/ml of microorganisms. Greater than 80% of feed was excreted through the fermentation by the intestinal enzyme, after worm had eaten feeds such as fallen leaves and rotten roots under the ground. Also, the soil structure of casting was known to be very efficient in the aspects of the porosity, the water permeability, and deodorizing activities. In this research, the biofilter packed with a biomedia made of casting and waste polyurethane foam, a binder, which helped to improve the durability and perpetuity of casting, was investigated to degrade malodorous hydrogen sulfide gas. The biomedia had no need of extra supply of nutrients and of microbial inoculations. On the beginning of the operations, it showed 100% removal of hydrogen sulfide gas without lag phase. At SV of 50 $h^{-1}$, hydrogen sulfide gas from the outlet of the biofilter was not detected, when inlet concentration increased to 450 ppmv. After that, removal efficiency decreased as increasing inlet hydrogen sulfide concentration. Hydrogen sulfide removal was maintained at almost 93% until inlet concentration was increased up to 950 ppmv, at which the elimination capacity of $H_2S$ was 61.2 g $S{\cdot}m^{-3}{\cdot}h^{-1}$. Maximum elimination capacity guaranteing 90% removal was 61.2, 65.9, 84.7, 89.4 g $S{\cdot}m^{-3}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ at SV ranging from 50 $h^{-1}$ to 300 $h^{-1}$, but was 59.3 g $S{\cdot}m^{-3}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ at SV of 400 $h^{-1}$. The results calculated from Michaelis-Menten equation revealed that $V_m$ increased from 66.04, 88.96, 117.35, 224.15, to 227.54 g $S{\cdot}m^{-3}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ with increasing space velocity in the range of 50 $h^{-1}$ to 400 $h^{-1}$. However, saturation constant$(K_s)$ decreased from 79.97 ppmv to 64.95 and 65.37 ppmv, and then increased to 127.72 and 157.43 ppmv.
