The New Interpretation of Archimedes' 'method' (아르키메데스 '방법'에 대한 새로운 해석)

  • This study suggests new interpretation about ancient mathematician Archimedes' 'method'. For this, we examined the core issue related to the interpretation of the 'method' and identified the unclear relation between the principle of the lever and the indivisibles, both of which have consisted of the main point of arguments. And by having conducted the exploratory historical guesswork about Archimedes' careful use of indivisibles, we make a hypothesis that the role of the principle of the lever in Archimedes' 'method' should be the control of ratio of change.

  • In order to maintain and evaluate the adequate humidity and temperature of a museum, the data of these should be periodically monitored and accumulated. For this purpose, We have designed the interpretation method of charts of the widely used thermo hydrorecorder at the museum, and developed the computer-based program (name of the program : HATH interpretation program). This method is as follows;The recording of thermo hydrorecorder(model ; Sato R-704) Input a through scanner (UMAX type), and was transformed into numerical value and was processed the statistics by HATH interpretation program. Output can be present the numerical value and the graph which are classified by a day, a month, and a year. By this method, the humidity and temperature data which were taken from 12points in the exhibition case, storage and outdoor of the Ho-Am art Museum in 1995 were processed. At the results, its ability for fast processing, management and analysis of the data was proved to be excellent.

A New Penalty Parameter Update Rule in the Augmented Lagrange Multiplier Method for Dynamic Response Optimization

  • Based on the value of the Lagrange multiplier and the degree of constraint activeness, a new update rule is proposed for penalty parameters of the ALM method. The theoretical exposition of this suggested update rule is presented by using the algorithmic interpretation and the geometric interpretation of the augmented Lagrangian. This interpretation shows that the penalty parameters can effect the performance of the ALM method. Also, it offers a lower limit on the penalty parameters that makes the augmented Lagrangian to be bounded. This lower limit forms the backbone of the proposed update rule. To investigate the numerical performance of the update rule, it is embedded in our ALM based dynamic response optimizer, and the optimizer is applied to solve six typical dynamic response optimization problems. Our optimization results are compared with those obtained by employing three conventional update rules used in the literature, which shows that the suggested update rule is more efficient and more stable than the conventional ones.

  • Purpose: A personal computer-based system was developed for automated metabolic profiling of organic aciduria and aminoacidopathy by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and data interpretation for the diagnosis of metabolic disorders Methods: For automatic data profiling and interpretation, we compiled retention time, two target ions and their intensity ratio for 77 organic acids and 13 amino acids metabolites. Metabolites above the cut-off values were flagged as abnormal compounds. The data interpretation was a based on combination of flagged metabolites. Diagnostic or index metabolites were categorized into three groups, "and", "or" and "NO" compiled for each disorder to improve the specificity of the diagnosis. Groups "and" and "or" comprised essential and optional compounds, respectively, to reach a specific diagnosis. Group "NO" comprised metabolites that must be absent to make a definite diagnosis. We tested this system by analyzing patients with confirmed Propionic aciduria and others. Results: In all cases, the diagnostic metabolites were identified and correct diagnosis was founded to be made among the possible disease suggested by the system. Conclusion: The study showed that the developed method could be the method of choices in rapid, sensitive and simultaneous screening for organic aciduria and amino acidopathy with this simplified automated system.

  • As the technology has improved and demands of customers have varied, a lot of products are getting diverse and intricate. Consequently, the enterprise that produce products have to simultaneously consider the various variables for the very products. There are some scheme, such as Multivariate control chart and Demerit control chart, designed to simultaneously monitor the variables in the process. In this paper, we present an effective method for process control using the Demerit-CUSUM control chart in the process where nonconforming units or nonconformities are occured by various types. In addition, we show interpretation method for abnormal signal in order to quickly detect the assignable causes as Demerit-CUSUM control chart signals abnormality. we compare performance of Demerit control chart and Demerit-CUSUM control chart using example again used in the existing studies, and present result of performance accoriding to changing sample size and parameter.

  • This paper is keeping with the general pattern of automatic acquisition and interpretation of geographical digital data. Maps of the Institut Geographique National of France are built up with four so-called "mother" maps represented by four colors. The green one deals with the vegetation. In a green layer, woods, bushes, vines. fields and boundaries of domanial forests or nature reserves are represented by different synthetic textures We present here an original method of texture analysis applied to the automatic interpretation of vegetation belts.

  • In this study, sample area was selected to compare the conventional method with photogrammetic method in basic planning of country club. Also various elements of planning, such as vegetation and water system, were considered through interpretation of aerial photographs and topographic maps, vegetation maps and water system maps were made as well as digital terrain models. These were used to analyse tophographic changes and landscape. As a result of comparing with the conventional method, it was shown that photographic interpretation could give more detail values than the conventional method, and that the digital terrain model could predict changes of topography, landscape and water system with more asccuracy. Consequently, the method of digital terrain model and photographic interpretation proved to be more effective than the conventional method in the case of water treatment, and planning of landscape and land utility.

  • The Influences of the Ecotourism Motive, on the Attitude, Resource Interpretation and Satisfaction of Tourist Ecotourism has been recently introduced to maintain the relation of mutual dependence between the tourism and the natural environment. However it is adversely used and creates the destruction of ecosystem. It is Important that the ecotourism is a tourism which tourists can experience and enjoy themselves on site rather than a tourism which they only see and hear, understand. It is assumed that a method should be found to maximize toursist' satisfaction and that the presentation of interpretation of the tourism resource may satisfy the tourist's satisfaction. The results offer the suggestion points as follows. 1. By providing the interpretation of tourism resource as well as the recreational object, the ecotourism can be activated with a sound recognition of nature and the reservation of environment, and furthermore, the development policy may be based on not only the area of ecotourism but also all of the tour area. 2. By providing the interpretation service of tourism resource for tourists, the satisfaction can be maximized by the high cognition of tourist. 3. By providing the information about the tourism destination and resource, it will contribute to the side of education, it will contribute the preservation of resource and the reservation of environment. Cone-beam computed tomography in endodontics: from the specific technical considerations of acquisition parameters and interpretation to advanced clinical applications

  • The implementation of imaging methods that enable sensitive and specific observation of anatomical structures has been a constant in the evolution of endodontic therapy. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) enables 3-dimensional (3D) spatial anatomical navigation in the 3 volumetric planes (sagittal, coronal and axial) which translates into great accuracy for the identification of endodontic pathologies/conditions. CBCT interpretation consists of 2 main components: (i) the generation of specific tasks of the image and (ii) the subsequent interpretation report. A systematic and reproducible method to review CBCT scans can improve the accuracy of the interpretation process, translating into greater precision in terms of diagnosis and planning of endodontic clinical procedures. MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Science, Google Scholar, Embase and Scopus were searched from inception to March 2023. This narrative review addresses the theoretical concepts, elements of interpretation and applications of the CBCT scan in endodontics. In addition, the contents and rationale for reporting 3D endodontic imaging are discussed.

Differences and Relationships between Interpretation Attributes, Visitors' Satisfaction, and Attitudes on Cultural Heritage according to Interpretation Media (해설매체에 따른 방문객의 해설속성평가, 만족도 및 문화유산에 대한 태도의 차이 및 영향관계 -궁의 문화해설사와 해설판을 대상으로-)

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest more effective interpretation method to enrich visitors' satisfaction and attitudes on cultural heritage. The paper examined the difference of interpretation effectiveness and the relationship of interpretation attributes and visitors' satisfaction and attitudes on cultural heritage according to the type of interpretation media. The result of empirical analysis shows that there is significant difference of interpretation attributes, visitors' satisfaction and attitudes on cultural heritage according to interpretation media type. Also the different interpretation attributes have effects on visitors' satisfaction, and the degree of effect of each attribute on attitudes on cultural heritage are different according to interpretation media. Most important and meaningful finding is that educational interpretation is also necessary to enhance visitors' behavior to cultural heritage preservation as well as interesting and effective interpretation have strong impacts on visitors' satisfaction. Other implications are also suggested.
