  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the empowerment intervention on the levels of self-esteem, interpersonal relationships and adjustment to nursing home life of the Korean nursing home residents. Methods: Participants (n=47) whose period of stay was less than one year were purposefully selected from 3 nursing homes in Korea. The experimental group (n=21) attended 10 weekly hour-long empowerment sessions. The empowerment program comprised two components; group education and group discussion. The control group (n=26) received a two-hour education about health management. Results: Compared with the control group, the experimental group showed significantly higher mean scores of selfesteem (t=5.51, p<.001), interpersonal relationships (t=2.73, p=.009) and adjustment to nursing home life (t=2.10, p=.041). Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest that empowerment interventions may be effective in enhancing nursing home residents' self-esteem, interpersonal relationships and adjustment to nursing home life. Future research is needed to determine if such an empowerment program could be used with newly institutionalized elders to speed as well as enhance their adjustment to nursing home life.

  • Interpersonal trust has become essential for online communities because people have managed to be in a situation without face-to-face encounters. To identify the structural relationships between interpersonal trust and learning performance, we analyzed the relationship between two types of trust, namely, cognitive and affective, as well as two dimensions of learning performance, namely, learning satisfaction and knowledge application. We also identified the moderating role of social norms in the relationship between trust and learning performance. Results of analysis are as follows. First, cognitive trust significantly affected the two dimensions of performance. Second, affective trust exhibited a significant effect on learning satisfaction, but did not affect knowledge application. Third, the relationships between the two performance factors were significant and direct. Lastly, social norms appeared to moderate the effects of cognitive trust on knowledge application and affective trust on satisfaction. These findings suggest that organizations, which would like to optimize task-oriented performance of their learning communities, should consider linking strategies between community satisfaction and practical knowledge application.

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the trajectories of mobile phone use with reference to its purposes, and to examine the effects of gender and interpersonal factors on the same in early adolescents. Methods: Latent growth modeling was used with a sample of 2,378 early adolescents from Grade 4 to 8. Data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute were used. Results: In boys and girls, overtime, the level of mobile phone use for communicating with family decreased, while that for communicating with friends increased. Level of mobile phone use for entertainment increased across time in boys; however, in girls, it increased from Grade 4 to 6 and decreased thereafter, until Grade 8. Gender was associated with the changes of mobile phone use according to the purpose of the same. Positive parenting, negative parenting, relationships with peers, and relationships with teachers predicted changes in mobile phone use for communicating with friends. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the processes involved in the trajectories of mobile phone use in early adolescence operate differently based on the purposes of the same. Additionally, the present results show that interpersonal factors are highly associated with mobile phone use for communicating with friends.

The data were collected from May 29 to June 16, 2017 and self-report questionnaires, including the Professional Self-concept Scale, Interpersonal Relationship Scale, Coping Scale, and Clinical Practice Satisfaction Scale. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-test, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression. Professional self-concept showed significant differences according to religion, income, and school records. Interpersonal relationships showed significant differences according to gender, income, and school records. Coping showed significant differences according to the school records. Professional self-concept had a statistically positive correlation with interpersonal relationship, clinical practice satisfaction, and approach coping. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that the predictor of professional self-concept was interpersonal relationships, approach coping, religion, school records, and avoidant coping, which accounted for 45.2% of the variance. These results highlight the need for enhancement programs of nursing college students' professional self-concept that consider their interpersonal relationships, coping, religion, and school records.

Method : This study implemented the Relationship Change Scale (RCS) and the Korean Activity Card Sort (K-ACS) on elderly people who use community welfare centers in the Busan and Ulsan areas from May 28, 2015 to August 26, 2015. Results : Total ACS scores and sensitivity showed a high correlation with .326. Next, instrumental activities of daily living and sensitivity showed a high correlation of .287, and instrumental activities of daily living and sense of satisfaction showed a high correlation of .277. However, social activities showed no correlation with the subcategories of interpersonal relationships. Conclusion : People who adequately carry out their roles in daily living and enjoy leisure activities showed high scores in interpersonal relationship satisfaction, understandability, sensitivity, and openness. This shows that it is necessary for elderly people to have interest in successful aging such as participation in activities that exceed welfare through simple medical support or interpersonal relationships and in demands related to the quality of life.

  • The study aim was to identify the interpersonal relationships, self-efficacy, and department satisfaction of nursing students in a four-year technical college in order to analyze the factors influencing department satisfaction and to compare the results to university students majoring in nursing. Participants were asked to complete self-report surveys between September 7, 2015 and November 30, 2015. A total of 372 surveys were analyzed using SPSS 19.0 (t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, Stepwise multiple regression). The harmony of interpersonal relationships, nursing major satisfaction, and academic achievements were significant factors affecting department satisfaction for nursing students in four-year technical colleges. For nursing students in four-year universities, interpersonal relationships, nursing major satisfaction, and the motive behind applying for a nursing major were critical factors affecting department satisfaction. These results indicate that the ability to create harmonious interpersonal relationships must be increased in order to improve department satisfaction for nursing students.

Second, young children's emotional behavior as each domain of caring behavior were predictable variables for explaining the relative effect of the social reactivity and explaining the relative effect of relationship formation. Active behaviors were predictable variables for explaining the relative effect of follow-up instructions, but negatively affected mental burden. Normative behaviors were predictable variables for explaining the relative effect of social reactivity, but negatively predictable variables for explaining the relative effect of the relationship formation and mental burden. Value-contributing behavior in each domain of caring behavior were predictable variables for explaining the relative effect of the positive interaction.

  • This study investigated preschoolers' happiness, behavior problems, and interpersonal problem solving strategies according to their sex and age, and the relationships among them. The subjects were 185 preschoolers (97 boys and 88 girls; 83 four-year-olds and 102 five-year-olds). Results showed that boys were higher in behavior problems (aggression) and forceful problem solving strategies than girls, while girls were higher in happiness (characteristics of self) than boys. Also, 4-year-old children were higher in forceful problem solving strategies than 5-year-olds. Children's happiness was negatively related to their internalizing and externalizing behavior problems. Behavior problems and interpersonal problem solving strategies of children were influenced by their happiness. These findings provide preliminary evidence that children's happiness may predict their behavior problems and interpersonal problem solving strategies.
