Purpose: This study was designed to identify a path model that anticipates the interpersonal competence of nurses by anticipating factors that explain interpersonal competence within an organization, and analyzing the effects of these factors. A hypothetical model was formulated based on a literature review of interpersonal competence. For the study, influential factors were divided into two variables: exogenous variables including communication style, coaching leadership, and social support, and endogenous variables of self-efficacy, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. Methods: The sample included 202 hospital nurses. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS and AMOS. Results: The overall fitness was good ($x^2=74.707$, p<.001), d.f=19, $x^2/df=3.932$, GFI=.940, AGFI=.826, RMR=.009). Social support, self-efficacy, horizontal communication and organizational commitment directly affected the interpersonal competence of the nurses, and informal type of communication, horizontal, upward communication and coaching leadership indirectly effected the interpersonal competence of the nurses. Horizontal communication, social support, self-efficacy, and organizational commitment explained 46.5% of the variance in interpersonal competence of nurses. Conclusion: Based on the study results, nurses in hospitals need informal types of communication, horizontal, upward communication and coaching leadership to increase their interpersonal competence.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of interpersonal relationships and communication curriculum on interpersonal relations and self-esteem. Method: This study employed a two-group pre-post test study design. Data was collected from 70 subjects from April to June, 2006 at C university in Jeju, Korea. Forty subjects were in the control group and 30 subjects were in the experimental group. A structured curriculum was conducted for the experimental group once a week for 12 weeks, but not for the control group. For both groups the scores of interpersonal relations and self-esteem were measured before and after the curriculum. Data was analysed by $X^2$-test, t-test, paired t-test and Pearson correlation with SPSS. Results: The scores of interpersonal relations and self-esteem significantly increased in the experimental group. There were significant positive correlations between interpersonal relationships and self-esteem. Conclusion: In light of these results, interpersonal relationships and communication curriculum have a positive effect on interpersonal relations and self-esteem. Therefore, this study can provide basic data and direction in developing and applying a curriculum in education.
Since trusting in other consumers may refer to having similar needs and preferences on fashion goods with them, interpersonal trust can be a reliable and practical criterion for market segmentation online. Therefore, this study aims to identify fashion online consumers based on interpersonal trust. This study segments fashion consumers based on interpersonal trust and experience and describes characteristics of each segment by examining demo-psychographic and behavioral variables as well as clothing consumption values. An online survey was conducted to collect data from 426 adult consumers who had bought fashion goods from their patronized e-tailer in the past one month. They completed a self-administered questionnaire inquiring about interpersonal trust, trust in e-tailers, purchase intentions, clothing consumption values, and their purchasing behavior online. Two-step cluster analysis generated four segments: distrustful doers, trusting doers, inactive trusters, and distrusters. They exhibited different characteristics in gender, online experiences, interpersonal trust, clothing consumption values, trust in the e-tailers, and attitude toward the e-tailers. Providing a new effective segmentation base, this study suggests that fashion marketers identify customers with a high level of trust in other customers and develop an encouraging environment that customers can interact with others in order to increase the effectiveness of trust. Because customers with a higher level of interpersonal trust are likely to have stronger trust in e-tailers with, more favorable attitude and purchase intention, and highly perceive the value of clothing consumption than those who have a lower level of interpersonal trust.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the romantic attachment and interpersonal problems of college students. The subjects of this study were 220 college students in Seoul and A-san. The romantic attachment was assessed by the multi-item measure of adult romantic attachment (Brennan et al., 1998) and the interpersonal problems were assessed by KIIP (Cho & Park, 2005). The major findings of this study were as follows: First, 44.5% of the subjects were classified as fearful, 26.8% as secure, 18.6% as dismissing, and 10.0% as preoccupied. Second, a significant difference among romantic attachment groups was found with the fearful group reporting a higher level of interpersonal problems than the secure and dismissing groups. Gender was a significant factor on independent problem in interpersonal problems. Third, avoidance and anxiety of romantic attachment dimensions were positively correlated with interpersonal problems. There was a gender difference in the relationship between avoidance of romantic attachment dimension and overgenerous in interpersonal problems. Avoidance of romantic attachment dimension in female students was negatively correlated with overgenerous in interpersonal problems.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of the interpersonal relationship training program based on emotional intelligence on interpersonal relationship, emotional intelligence, and self-esteem of nursing students. Methods: The study adopted a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group pre-post test. Total participants were 89 nursing students of S and K Universities. They were divided into the control (39 students) and experimental group (50 students). Participants went through the emotional intelligence program 100min which consisted of 100 minutes per session, once a week for total of 8 session from March 3th to April 21th, 2011. The contents were composed with interpersonal relationship training program to promote positive formation of emotional intelligence, interpersonal relationship, and self-esteem. All data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The experimental group showed a significant increase of emotional intelligence (t=-3.17, p=.002) and interpersonal relationship (t=-3.07, p=.003). Conclusion: The interpersonal relationship training program based on emotional intelligence was effective in improving emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationship.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine stress, interpersonal competence, health promotion behavior and factors influencing health-promoting behavior of undergraduate students majoring on a health-related degree program in Korea. Methods: Descriptive correlational study was utilized. The subjects were 269 college students in Gyeongi Province. Data were collected from November to December, 2014. Stress, interpersonal competence and health promotion behavior were measured using structured questionnaires. SAS 9.3 program was used for data analysis. Results: Stress and health promotion behavior were low, while interpersonal competence levels of students were moderate. Correlation between stress and health promoting behavior (r=-.16, p=.002) and interpersonal competence and health promoting behavior (r=.46, p<.001) was statistically significant. Factors influencing health promotion behavior were found to be stress(2.4%), interpersonal competence(21.7%), religion(1.7%) and academic achievement(1.5%). Interpersonal competence was the most influencing predictor for the health-promoting behaviors of undergraduate students majoring in health related programs. Conclusion: We suggest development of intervention programs for enhancement of interpersonal competence for college students in order to improve their health-promoting behaviors.
Purpose : This study aims to identify the effects of peer tutoring on the peer group caring interaction, interpersonal competence, and academic self-efficacy of nursing college students and to use them for practical education. Methods : The participants comprised 33 nursing students who lived in Gyeong-nam Province. Data were collected from February 1 to May 1, 2019. The PGCIS -K Questionnaire, Interpersonal Competence Questionnaire, and Academic Self-efficacy Questionnaire were used. Data were analyzed by average, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, and Wilcoxon signed rank test using SPSS version 23.0. Results : A significant difference was found in the data obtained from the Interpersonal Competence Questionnaire (z=-2.13, p<.03) but not from the PGCIS-K Questionnaire of the research subjects who participated in peer tutoring (z=-.89, p<.37) and from the Academic Self-efficacy Questionnaire (z=-.78, p<.43). Furthermore, their interpersonal competence significantly increased after the peer tutoring program. Conclusion : This study developed a peer tutoring program for nursing students and applied it to basic nursing practice classes to verify its effect on peer group caring interaction, interpersonal competence, and academic self-efficacy. The subjects improved their peer group caring interaction and interpersonal competence through peer tutoring. Peer tutoring also showed an effect on interpersonal competence.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the nursing profession perception of nursing students. Methods: Data were collected with a questionnaire distributed to 305 nursing students in U city. Data were collected from March 30 to June 15, 2019. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS 22.0 program. Results: There were significant differences in the level of interpersonal trust (F=5.42, p<.001), empathy ability (F=3.13, p=.015), interpersonal relationship ability (F=3.64, p=.006) and nursing profession perception (F=11.95, p<.001) on the major satisfaction. The level of interpersonal trust (r=.21, p<.001), empathy ability (r=.27, p<.001) and interpersonal relationship ability (r=.28, p<.001) were positively correlated with nursing profession perception. Also empathy ability (r=.11, p=.047), interpersonal relationship ability (r=.49, p<.001) with interpersonal trust and correlation of empathy ability with interpersonal relationship ability (r=.32, p<.001) were positively correlated with each other. The significant variables that influence the nursing profession perception were grade, major satisfaction, empathy ability and interpersonal relationship ability. These factors were responsible for 21.3%. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that educational programs are necessary to raise the nursing perception of nursing students and reduce the turnover of nurses.
The purpose of this study was to find out whether there was a meaningful change in the learning perception and interpersonal relations of nursing students after completing clinical practice. Participants were 32 nursing students in the third grade. The research data were collected by questionnaire consisting of interpersonal relations and learning perception. The analysis of data was analyzed by SPSS 21 Version. General characteristics were analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation between variables was analyzed by Pearson's relation, and differences of variables before and after clinical practice were analyzed by paired t-test. The results of the study are as follows. In clinical practice, interpersonal abilities showed a significant correlation with learning outcomes (R =.351, p =.049). The interpersonal abilities of nursing students improved significantly(t =2.264, p =.13) after completion of clinical practice. Nursing college students recognized that their interpersonal abilities had improved after completion of clinical practice, and the improvement of interpersonal abilities was statistically supported. Considering that the interpersonal relationship was an important factor in the clinical practice related stress of the nursing college students, it was meaningful that the interpersonal ability improved after the clinical practice. The positive correlation between interpersonal abilities and learning perceptions in clinical practice of nursing college students suggests future directions for future research. The results of this study will provide basic data on education that will enhance the satisfaction of students' clinical practice and improve their learning outcomes.
This study examined the effects of perceived discrimination on multicultural adolescents regarding feelings of This study examined the direct effect of socially prescribed perfectionism on interpersonal anxiety in upper elementary school students and the sequential mediating effect of dichotomous thinking and rejection sensitivity on this relationship. The sample comprised 306 upper elementary school students (grades 4 to 6; 149 boys, 48.7%) in Seoul, Incheon, and Busan. The Data were collected through an online self-report questionnaire completed by the participants and analyzed using SPSS version 27.0 and MPlus version 8.7 software. The analyses revealed three key findings. First the direct effect of socially prescribed perfectionism on interpersonal anxiety was not statistically significant. Second dichotomous thinking mediated the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and interpersonal anxiety, whereas rejection sensitivity did not. Finally, socially prescribed perfectionism influenced interpersonal anxiety through the sequential mediation of dichotomous thinking and rejection sensitivity. In conclusion, although socially prescribed perfectionism does not directly influence interpersonal anxiety, children may experience interpersonal anxiety in situations involving dichotomous thinking due to socially prescribed perfectionism, leading to rejection sensitivity. These findings suggest that interventions for interpersonal anxiety in upper elementary school students should focus on psychological problems attributed to socially prescribed perfectionism.
