  • We present a 12.5-GHz interleaved bidirectional ultra-dense wavelength-division-multiplexing transmission over a conventional single mode fiber of 80 km achieving spectral efficiency as high as 0.8-bit/s/Hz. The beat-frequency-locking method is used to stabilize the channel frequency within $\pm$200 MHz error. To facilitate the identification of multiple beat frequency signals, we use a radio-frequency spectrum analyzer. The bidirectional transmission penalty is about 0.3 dB compared with the unidirectional transmission over the same fiber.

  • This paper presents development of variable speed generation (VSG) system with energy saving function. The rubber tyred gantry crane (RTGC) requires the power from diesel-engine. Significant fuel savings by reducing the engine speed can be achieved, because all of operation modes except hoisting are required lower power than rated value of engine. When low speed operation output voltage of generator is decrease until acceptable range of motor driver inverters and auxiliary load supplier. According to power demand engine speed is varying from 20 to 60Hz, and voltage is varying between 210Vac and 480Vac. When idle mode or low power operation dc/dc converter operates by constant output voltage control and inverters dc site voltage is compensated by it. This paper proposed 3-phase interleaved boost converter which has the same structure as the commercially available 3-phase inverter and current sharing capability. 400kW interleaved converter is designed and a performance of converter is evaluated through several experiments with a RTGC system. Energy saving VSG system can cut down fuel consumption by 36% and 21.3% at idle and unidirectional load operations.

  • A digital state feedback control method for the current mode control of DC-DC converters is proposed in this paper. This approach can precisely achieve interleaved current sharing among the converter modules. As the controller design and system analysis are performed in the time domain, the proposed method can easily satisfy the required converter specification by using the pole placement technique. The digital state feedback controller in the continuous and discrete time domain is derived for the robust tracking control. For the verification of the proposed control scheme, a parallel module bi-directional converter in a prototype 42V/14V hybrid automotive power system, which is a design example in the continuous time domain, and a parallel module buck converter, which is a design example in the discrete time domain, are implemented using a TMS320F2812 digital signal processor (DSP).

  • This paper deals with novel soft-switching method for a bidirectional DC-DC converter in battery charging and discharging system. The proposed soft-switching method provides ZVS and ZCS at turn-on, and ZVS at turn-off of the switch in both charging and discharging operation modes. The soft switching condition can be obtained in wide load range, and provide low switching loss as well as low voltage spike at turn-off of the switch. Proposed method is analyzed in charging and discharging mode. Simulation and experimental results validate the usefulness of the proposed soft-switching method.

  • This work describes an 8b 200MHz time-interleaved subranging analog-to-digital converter (ADC) based on a single-poly digital CMOS process. Two fine ADCs for lower digital bits of the proposed ADC employ a time-sharing double-channel architecture to increase system speed and a new reference voltage switching scheme to reduce settling time of the reference voltages and chip area. The proposed intermeshed resistor string, which generates reference voltages for fine ADCs, improves linearity and settling time of the reference voltages simultaneously. The proposed sample- and-hold amplifier(SHA) is based on a highly linear common-drain amplifier and passive differential circuits to minimize power consumption and chip area with 8b accuracy and employs input dynamic common mode feedback circuits for high dynamic performance at a 200MHz sampling rate. A new encoding circuit in a coarse ADC simplifies the signal processing between the coarse ADC and two successive fine ADCs.

  • This paper presents a simple and cost-effective stand-alone rapid battery charging system of 30kW for electric vehicles. The proposed system mainly consists of active front-end rectifier of neutral point clamped 3-level type and non-isolated bi-directional dc-dc converter of multi-phase interleaved half-bridge topology with coupled inductors. The charging system is designed to operate for both lithium-polymer and lithium-ion batteries. The complete charging sequence is made up of three sub-interval operating modes; pre-charging mode, constant-current mode, and constant-voltage mode. The pre-charging mode employs the staircase shaped current profile to accomplish shorter charging time while maintaining the reliable operation of the battery. The proposed system is able to reach the full-charge state within less than 16min for the battery capacity of 8kWh by supplying the charging current of 67A. The optimal discharging algorithm for Vehicle to the Grid (V2G) operation has been adopted to maintain the discharging current of 1C. Owing to the simple and compact power conversion scheme, the proposed solution has superior module-friendly mechanical structure which is absolutely required to realize flexible power expansion capability in a very high-current rapid charging system.
