Evaluation of Anti-Sapstain Activity of Rice Powder Adhesives Modified with Wood Preservatives

  • Demand of natural interior finishing material has been widely sprayed in nowadays because many weak people as children, pregnant women, and elder people are being struggled with sick house syndrome due to volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde, toluene, benzene, etc. Our research group developed a no-added formaldehyde adhesive for wood-based panels from mainly rice powder and some additives in the previous study for abating sick house syndrome. Since the rice powder adhesive provides a good source of nutrients with microorganisms, it was suspected a susceptibility of the rice powder adhesive to fungal and sapstain attack. We evaluated anti-sapstain activity of the rice powder adhesives modified by adding wood preservatives. We modified the rice powder adhesive by adding three different types of anti-sapstain preservatives at three different concentrations to assess their anti-sapstin activity. The bonding strengths of the modified rice powder adhesives were still outstanding performance on all samples. Moreover, the plywood manufactured with the modified rice powder adhesive satisfied outdoor use requirement for ordinary plywood (KS F3101, Korean Standard). The results obtained showed that at least 3% of preservative should be added to the rice powder adhesive to obtain effective anti-sapstain activity.

수용성(水溶性) 방부처리재(防腐處理材)에서 금속류(金屬類)의 부식(腐蝕) (Corrosion of Metals in Waterborne Preservative-Treated Wood)

  • This study was performed to investigate the corrosion of metal fasteners in waterborne preservative-treated wood. Of all the metal tested, steel exhibited the greatest amount of corrosion across all preservatives and exposure conditions whereas stainless steel was totally inert. Galvanized steel corroded at a much lower rate compared to steel and the corrosion of brass was negligible. Among the preservatives, CCA-Type B was the most corrosive system tested. The sequence for the average corrosivity across all metals was: CCA-type B>CCA-Type C${\geq}$ACC${\geq}$CCA-Type A. Across all metals and retentions the salt formulations were more corrosive than the oxide and the corrosion was increased with the increse in the amount of preservative loadings. The amount of corrosion was also increased with the increase in exposure relative humidity (RH) across all metals and presevatives However, at the 60% RH exposure condition, the corrosion of metals was very negligible. Consequently, it can be concluded that across all metals oxide-type preservatives should be used to prevent the corrosion problem of metal fasteners in contact with treated wood and the use of steel nail preservative-treated wood should be avoided without distinction of end-use location, i.e., exterior or interior, and the use of stainless steel or at least brass nail in damp exterior condition was strongly recommended.

인피섬유의 천연염색 및 염색성(제 3보) - 오배자, 소목, 치자의 복합염 (Properties of Natural Dyeing of Bast Fiber(Part 3) Combination dyeing of gallnut-sappan wood and gardenia)

  • To investigate the combination dyeing properties of natural dyes, the combination dyeing using gallnut,-Al, Cu, Fe-sappan wood, and gallnut-Al, Cu, Fe-gardenia was performed on bast fiber of mulberry, cotton, silk, and their K/S values, colors, and sunlight fastness were measured. The gallnut-Al, Cu, Fe-gardenia dyeing showed the highest K/S values when the dyeing concentration of gallnut is 3%. It tended to show the higher K/S values than gallnut-Al, Cu, Fe-sappan wood. The silk showed the highest values of in K/S, and then followed by cotton, and bast fiber of mulberry. The mordants developed different colors on the bast fiber and the cotton treated with gallnut-Al, Cu, Fe-sappan wood. However, the silk showed a series of YR, showing no effect of the mordants on the development of color. The combination dyeing of gallnut-Al, Cu, Fe-gardenia showed a series of Y. The results showed that sappan wood could develop various colors but gardenia could develop a series of Y. No distinct improvement on sunlight fastness of the combination dyeing was observed.

서울지역 아파트의 규모별 실내디자인 리모델링에 대한 심층 사례 연구 (A Case Study on the Interior Design Remodeling of Apartment according to the Floors Space in Seoul)

  • The purpose of this study is providing useful information for consumer-friendly house plan by investigating remodeling apartments according to the area type and size. In order to achieve this aim, case study was applied. The case study was conducted of five small, medium, and large size apartments through depth-interviews, actual survey, and questionnaires on the remodeling behavior, interior design, and interior atmosphere. The results of the study are as follows: Structural alterations were frequent in communal area, and then in private and household areas. Changing lighting fixtures was frequent in all area types, and especially, in communal areas installing extra decoration was frequently observed. Besides, alterations of doors and window frames were carried out in communal, private, housework and service areas by using wood, aluminum sashes, double-glazing, and paint coating. Finally, in housework areas the material and color of counters were changed into wooden and achromatic.

전통주택 실내구성요소의 현대적 계승사례에 관한연구 -월간잡지에 나타난 주거공간을 중심으로- (A study on the Adaptation of Traditional Interior Elements in Modern House)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate actual condition of the modern adaptation of interior elements (wall floor ceiling door & window) in traditional house. The examined objects were 316 pictures of residential interior spaces from the 5 different monthly magazines between Jan. 1993 to Dec. 1997 The results of this study were as follows; 1. Mostly they were either parital adaptation from the original or partially transformed adaptation rather than entire adaptation of the original 2. Of the traditional interior elements adapted in residential space only specific elements were being adapted. For example. partial adaptation from the original were oiled paper flooring(Jangpan) rice papered wall (Hanji) a ceiling finish that left the rafters and beams exposed (Yondunt-chonjang) and window or door frame which is vertical lattices accented with horizontal lattices grouped into three sections(Ttisal-mun)And partially transformed adaptation were wood flooring(Chang-maru) rice apered wall(Hanji) Yondung-chonjang wind or door frame of Wan character(Wanja-mum) 3. In regard to space the mostly adapted spaces were bedrooms rather than living or dining rooms.

  • Recently, the Korean medical system changed with diversification & specialization and the field of medical service is also specialized in these days. The medical space settings are usually designed for staff needs rather than for patient needs. but The purpose of this project was to identify the design elements for the patient-focused. Main keyword of this project is 'high touch' and basic design concept is 'a sense of stability/velocity'. This medical space is located in Sanbon, and it has an area of 171m$^2$. The material scheme in the interior design of medical space is an important factor for the hospital users. Painting, stainless steel, wood veneer, fabric and p-tile were used as interior finishing material.

국내 지상부 사용(H3) 목재의 부후위험지수(Scheffer Index) 변화 (Change of Decay Hazard Index (Scheffer Index) for Exterior Above-Ground Wood in Korea)

  • 본 연구는 최근의 기후변화가 국내 목재부후위험지수(Scheffer Index)에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여 수행되었다. 국내 58개 장소에서 40년(1973~2012) 동안 축적된 기후자료를 활용하여 목재부후위험지수를 계산하였으며 기후 변화의 영향을 살펴보기 위하여 10년 간격으로 목재부후위험지수를 계산하였다. 제주도를 제외한 국내 대부분의 지역에서 목재부후지수는 35에서 65 사이로 목재부후위험이 중간 정도인 것으로 판명되었다. 그러나 최근 10년(2003~2012)의 경우 목재부후위험이 높은 곳(${\geq}65$)으로 구분할 수 있는 지역이 지난 30년(1973~2012)에 비하여 상당히 많아졌으며 전반적으로 목재부후위험지수가 급격히 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 경향은 국내 기후가 아열대성 기후와 비슷하게 변하는 과정에서 목재부후와 밀접하게 관련된 기후인자인 온도, 강우량 및 강우일수 등이 증가한 것에 의해 설명할 수 있다.

조선산업 합판 폐기물의 구조용재로의 재활용 가능성에 대한 연구 (Study on the Possibility of Recycling for Shipbuilding Plywood Waste to Use as the Structural Members)

  • 목재 자원의 부족과 가격 상승에 대항할 수 있는 좋은 대안 중 하나가 목재 부산물이나 폐기물의 재활용이다. 조선 산업에서 얻어지는 목재 폐기물의 경우 기존에는 파쇄 되어 보드류 생산에 주로 사용되어 왔다. 하지만 파쇄를 통한 합판 폐기물의 재활용은 재료의 경제적 가치나 자원의 문제 등을 고려할 때 아쉬움이 많이 남는 처리 방법이다. 본 연구에서는 국내 조선 산업에서 파생되는 목재 폐기물들의 재활용 가능성을 알아보고자 하였다. 국내 조선 산업의 목재 관련 폐기물은 합판 폐기물과 소재 폐기물로 나뉜다. 본 연구를 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 1. KS 규격에 따라 합판 폐기물과 합판 적층재의 휨성능을 평가하였다. 2. 합판 폐기물과 합판 적층재의 파괴 모드는 두 종류 모두 simple tension 파괴를 나타내었다. 3. 합판 폐기물과 합판 적층재의 재활용 용도로는 크게 외부 시설용, 내부 시설용 그리고 목조건축 자재로의 용도가 적합하다고 판단되었다. 적정 용도로는 인테리어 재료, 목재 파렛트, 마루판, 사이딩재, 판넬, 야외용 탁자, 데크용 재료 등인 것으로 생각된다.

편백나무 목분을 첨가한 합성목재 패널의 제조 및 특성 평가 (Preparation and Characterizations of Wood Plastic Composite Panel Fabricated with Chamaecyparis obtusa Wood Flour)

  • 데크재, 산책로 등 옥외용도로 대부분 사용되고 있는 합성목재(Wood Plastic Compound;WPC)를 실내 용도의 건축용 내장재로 사용하기 위하여, 항균성, 총 휘발성 유기화합물 배출량(TVOC), 난연성 등이 개선된 WPC 패널을 제조하였다. 고밀도 폴리에틸렌(HDPE)과 편백나무 목분(Chamacyparis obtusa wood flour), 항균제 및 난연제 등의 첨가제를 혼합한 후 압출 성형하여 합성목재(Wood Plastic Composite) 컴파운드 펠렛을 제조하였다. 이 WPC 컴파운드 펠렛을 이축압출기를 사용하여 제조한 합성목재 패널(303mm×606mm×10mm)은 우수한 항균 및 항진균 특성을 나타냈다. 또한 패널의 총 휘발성 유기화합물 배출량(TVOC)은 0.062mg/m2·h 였으며, KS F 2271의 난연성 2등급 표준을 달성하였다.

대학생의 감성과 선호하는 주거 실내공간이미지 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Preferred Housing Interior Image and Sensibility of University Students)

  • Due to the belief that housing for university students is uniform materialistic and non-human, a variety of needs and preferences of the residents is becoming more important. In order to more positively identify the user's emotional needs, a design that meets the needs of the resident's living space is absolutely necessary. The purpose of this study is to group the sensibility types of university students, to analyze the preferred interior image and interior design elements, and then to understand the preferred characteristics according to sensibility type. To collect the data, a survey method was used for 224 university students in Seoul and the metropolitan area. The data analysis used SPSS PC 14.0 to find the frequency, t-test, chi-square, factor analysis, and cluster analysis. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, sensibility types were segmented into four groups including 'Unique & Elegant', 'Static & Tidy', 'Warm & Comfortable', and 'Characteristic & Free'. Second, the preferred interior image was the Minimal-Dandy-Natural Image, the preferred floor_material was wood, and the preferred wall_material was marble. Third, there were different interior preferences according to each type of gender & sensibility.
