Single fiber fragmentation technique was used to evaluate the change of interfacial properties by degradation of fiber tensile strength in the fiber reinforced composites. The influences of fiber tensile strength on the interfacial properties have been evaluated by the fragmentation specimens(weak fiber samples) of glass fiber/epoxy resin that was made using the pre-degraded glass fiber in distilled water at $80^{circ}C$ for specified periods. The effects of the immersion time on the interfacial properties in the distilled water at $80^{circ}C$ also have been evaluated by the fragmentation specimens(original fiber samples) of glass fiber/epoxy resin that was made using the received glass fiber. As the result, the tensile strength of glass fiber was decreased with the increasing of the treatment time in the distilled water at $80^{circ}C$ and the interfacial shear strength was independent of the change of the glass fiber strength in the single fiber fragmentation test. But in the durability test using the single fiber fragmentation specimen, interfacial shear strength decreased with the increasing of the immersion time in distilled water ar $80^{circ}C$. And it turned out that the evaluating of interfacial shear strength using original fiber tensile strength was valuable in the durability test for the water environment by the single fiber fragmentation technique.

A sequence of visually experimental observations was conducted to investigate the flow boiling and two-phase flow in a coiled tube. Different boiling modes and bubble dynamical evolutions were identified for better recognizing the phenomena and understanding the two-phase flow evolution and heat transfer mechanisms. The dissolved gases and remained vapor would serve as foreign nucleation sites, and together with the effect of buoyancy, centrifugal force and liquid flow, these also induce very different flow boiling nucleation, boiling modes, bubble dynamical behavior, and further the boiling heat transfer performance. Bubbly flow, plug flow, slug flow, stratified/wavy flow and annular flow were observed during the boiling process in the coiled tube. Particularly the effects of flow reconstructing and thermal non-equilibrium release in the bends were noted and discussed with the physical understanding. Coupled with the effects of the buoyancy, centrifugal force and inertia or momentum ratio of the two fluids, the flow reconstructing and thermal non-equilibrium release effects have critical importance for flow pattern in the bends and flow evolution in next straight sections.

Thin film transistors (TFTs) with an amorphous silicon zinc tin oxide (a-2SZTO) channel layer have been fabricated using an RF magnetron sputtering system. The effect of the change of excitation electron on the variation of the total interfacial trap states of a-2SZTO systems was investigated depending on sputtering power, since the interfacial state could be changed by changing sputtering power. It is well known that Si can effectively reduce the generation of the oxygen vacancies. However, The a-2SZTO systems of ZTO doped with 2 wt% Si could be degraded because the Si peripheral electron belonging to a p-orbital affects the amorphous zinc tin oxide (a-ZTO) TFTs of the s-orbital overlap structure. We fabricated amorphous 2 wt% Si-doped ZnSnO (a-2SZTO) TFTs using an RF magnetron sputtering system. The a-2SZTO TFTs show an improvement of the electrical property with increasing power. The a-2SZTO TFTs fabricated at a power of 30 W showed many of the total interfacial trap states. The a-2SZTO TFTs at a power of 30 W showed poor electrical property. However, at 50 W power, the total interfacial trap states showed improvement. In addition, the improved total interfacial states affected the thermal stress of a-2SZTO TFTs. Therefore, a-2SZTO TFTs fabricated at 50 W power showed a relatively small shift of threshold voltage. Similarly, the activation energy of a-2SZTO TFTs fabricated at 50 W power exhibits a relatively large falling rate (0.0475 eV/V) with a relatively high activation energy, which means that the a-2SZTO TFTs fabricated at 50 W power has a relatively lower trap density than other power cases. As a result, the electrical characteristics of a-2SZTO TFTs fabricated at a sputtering power of 50 W are enhanced. The TFTs fabricated by rf sputter should be carefully optimized to provide better stability for a-2SZTO in terms of the sputtering power, which is closely related to the interfacial trap states.
This study was performed to observe the micro-structure change of surface, behavior of oxide change of element, the component transformation of the alloy and the bonding strength between the porcelain interface in order to investigate effects of indium, tin on interfacial properties of porcelain fused to low gold alloy. Hardness of castings was measured with a micro-Vicker's hardness tester. The compositional change of the surface of heat-treated specimen was analyzed with an EDS and an EPMA. The interfacial shear bonding strength between alloy specimen and fused porcelain was measured with a mechanical testing system(MTS 858.20). The results were as follows: 1) The hardness value of alloy increased as increasing amount of indium addition. 2) The formation of oxidation increased as increasing indium and tin contents after heat treatment. 3) Diffusion of indium and tin elements increased as increasing indium and tin contents in metal-porcelain surface after porcelain fused to metal firing. 4) The most interfacial shear bonding strength was increased as increasing a composition of adding elements, and a heat-treatment time, and an oxygen partial pressure. From the results of this study it was found that the addition of alloying elements such as indium and tin increase hardness of as-cast alloy, produce surface oxide layer of adding elements by heat-treatment which may improve interfacial bonding strength between alloy and porcelain.

The present study dealt with the relationships among the interfacial shear strength, the thickness of interfacial reaction layer and the impact value of $Nb/MoSi_2$ laminate composites. In addition, the tensile test was conducted to evaluate the fracture strain of $Nb/MoSi_2$ laminate composites. To change the thickness of the reaction layer, $Nb/MoSi_2$ laminate composites alternating sintered MoSi2 layers and Nb foils were fabricated as the parameter of hot press temperature. It has been found that the growth of the reaction layer increases the interfacial shear strength and decreases the impact value by localizing a plastic deformation of Nb foil. There also exist appropriate shear strength and the thickness of the reaction layer, which are capable of maximizing the fracture energy of $Nb/MoSi_2$.
To clarify the debonding phenomena of clad steel, the effect of thermal treatment (temperature, holding time) on the interfacial strength of clad steel was preliminarily investigated. From this study, it was confirmed that the interfacial strength of clad steel was deteriorated by thermal treatment and the amount of strength deteriorated, depending on the condition of thermal treatment, could be evaluated by the following equation. ${\sigma}_{ HT}/{\sigma}_{i}/=A_{0}-A\;exp(-Q/RT)log(t/t_{0})$ This equation implies that temperature has a far strong effect on strength deterioration than tiem. The deterioration of interfacial strength of clad steel after thermal treatment may be derived from the thermal stress caused by the difference in thermal expansion coefficient between component materials and microstructural change along the interface.
Sessile drop studies of molten Al on single crystal sapphire substrate were conducted to understand the wetting behavior and interfacial reaction at Al/Al2O3 interface. To investigate the wetting mechanism, the variation in contact angle was determined with time. The contact angle obtained in this study decreased exponentially with time. This result means that the driving force for wetting is the reduction in interfacial energy between liquid Al and sapphire caused by the interfacial reaction. The closer examination revealed that the reaction was the dissolution of sapphire by molten Al. Ti has been frequently used to improve wetting on ceramic materials. Therefore, the influence of Ti content on the wetting behaviour was investigated in this work. The equilibrium wetting angles of pure Al, Al-0.3 wt%Ti, and Al-1.0 wt%Ti at 100$0^{\circ}C$ were 63$^{\circ}$, 59$^{\circ}$, and 54$^{\circ}$respectively. The difference is considered as the result of the change in interfacial energy caused by the reaction between Ti and sapphire and the interfacial reaction formed the reaction products of varying stoichiometry (TiO, Ti2O3, TiO2 etc.).
This paper presents a study of the effect of varying the roll gap of oval pass in round-oval-round pass sequence on the interracial slip of workpiece, entrance and exit velocities, stresses and roll load that the workpiece experiences during rolling, by applying analytical method, finite element simulation and verification through hot bar rolling tests. The results have shown that the roll gap variation of oval pass affects the interfacial slip of workpiece along the groove contact and the specific roll pressure. The optimum conditions in terms of minimum interfacial slip and minimum specific roll pressure, which might influence the maximum groove life, is obtained when the subsequent round pass is completely filled.

Spin Transfer Torque (STT) is of great interest in data writing scheme for the Magneto-resistive Random Access Memory (MRAM) using Magnetic Tunnel Junction (MTJ). Scalability for high density memory requires ferromagnetic electrodes having the perpendicular magnetic easy axis. We investigated CoZr as the ferromagnetic electrode. It is observed that interfacial magnetic anisotropy is preferred perpendicular to the plane with thickness dependence on the interfaces with Pt layer. The anisotropy energy (Ku) with thickness dependence shows a change of magnetic-easy-axis direction from perpendicular to in-plane around 1.2 nm of CoZr. The interfacial anisotropy (Ki) as the directly related parameters to switching and thermal stability, are estimated as $1.64erg/cm^2$ from CoZr/Pt multilayered system.

It is hard to expect excellent electrical, mechanical and chemical properties from most of the composite materials presently used as insulators due to insufficient wettability property caused by the difference of interfacial properties between the matrix material and the reinforcer. Therefore, various interfacial coupling agents have been developed to improve the interfacial properties of composite materials. But if the wettable coupling agents are used outdoor for a long time, change in quality takes place in the coupling agents themselves, bringing about deterioration of the properties of the composite materials. In this study, glass surface was treated by plasma to examine the effect of dry interface treatment without coupling agent. It was identified that the optimum parameters for the best wettability of the samples at the time of generation of plasma were oxygen atmosphere, 0.1 torr of system pressure, 100 W of discharge power, and 3 minutes of discharge time. Also, the surface resistance rate and dielectric property were improved.
