한글 문자 입력 인터페이스 개발을 위한 눈-손 Coordination에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Eye-Hand Coordination for Korean Text Entry Interface Development)

  • Recently, various devices requiring text input such as mobile phone IPTV, PDA and UMPC are emerging. The frequency of text entry for them is also increasing. This study was focused on the evaluation of Korean text entry interface. Various models to evaluate text entry interfaces have been proposed. Most of models were based on human cognitive process for text input. The cognitive process was divided into two components; visual scanning process and finger movement process. The time spent for visual scanning process was modeled as Hick-Hyman law, while the time for finger movement was determined as Fitts' law. There are three questions on the model-based evaluation of text entry interface. Firstly, are human cognitive processes (visual scanning and finger movement) during the entry of text sequentially occurring as the models. Secondly, is it possible to predict real text input time by previous models. Thirdly, does the human cognitive process for text input vary according to users' text entry speed. There was time gap between the real measured text input time and predicted time. The time gap was larger in the case of participants with high speed to enter text. The reason was found out investigating Eye-Hand Coordination during text input process. Differently from an assumption that visual scan on the keyboard is followed by a finger movement, the experienced group performed both visual scanning and finger movement simultaneously. Arrival Lead Time was investigated to measure the extent of time overlapping between two processes. 'Arrival Lead Time' is the interval between the eye fixation on the target button and the button click. In addition to the arrival lead time, it was revealed that the experienced group uses the less number of fixations during text entry than the novice group. This result will contribute to the improvement of evaluation model for text entry interface.

조종적성 검사/연구 장비 운용 Console의 인간공학적 개선 (Ergonomic Improvement of Operation Console for Pilot Aptitude Research Equipment)

  • Pilot Aptitude Research Equipment (PARE) is a simulator developed to measure or research pilot aptitude and train for student pilots. Design of an ergonomic PARE operation console is required to operate the equipment effectively. This study carried out five steps : (S1) operator questionnaire survey, (S2) anthropometric design formula development, (S3) usability evaluation, (S4) improvement design, and (S5) validation considering both Physical User Interface (PUI) and Graphic User Interface (GUI) of PARE operation console. The operator questionnaire surveyed needs for each PUI and GUI part of the console from two PARE actual operators. In terms of PUI, the anthropometric design formula was developed by using design variables, body dimensions, target population characteristics, and reference posture related to the PARE console. In terms of GUI, the usability evaluation was conducted by three usability testing experts with a 7-point scale (1 : very low, 4 : neutral, 7 : very high) on GUI of the PARE operation console by seven usability criteria. The improved PARE operation console was designed to reflect the optimal values of design variables calculated from design formula, the results from usability testing, and the operator's needs. The improvement effect was observed by 20 people who had experience with the PARE operation console. As a result of the validation, monitor visibility and cockpit visibility for the improved PUI design and visibility and efficiency for the improved GUI design were significantly increased by more than 90% respectively. The improved design of the PARE operation console in this study can contribute to enhance operation performance of the PARE.

Performance Comparison of Manual and Touch Interface using Video-based Behavior Analysis

  • The objective of this study is to quantitatively incorporate user observation into usability evaluation of mobile interfaces using monitoring techniques in first- and third-person points of view. In this study, an experiment was conducted to monitor and record users' behavior using Ergoneers Dikablis, a gaze tracking device. The experiment was done with 2 mobile phones each with a button keypad interface and a touchscreen interface for comparative analysis. The subjects included 20 people who have similar experiences and proficiency in using mobile devices. Data from video recordings were coded with Noldus Observer XT to find usage patterns and to gather quantitative data for analysis in terms of effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. Results showed that the button keypad interface was generally better than the touchcreen interface. The movements of the fingers and gaze were much simpler when performing given tasks on the button keypad interface. While previous studies have mostly evaluated usability with performance measures by only looking at task results, this study can be expected to contribute by suggesting a method in which the behavioral patterns of interaction is evaluated.

  • Current subway station's office employee must perform safety management tasks by monitoring the various safety management systems. But these monitoring systems are limited in effective situational awareness and response to a state of emergency immediately. It is necessary to develop an integrated safety management system display. In this study, we developed subway station safety management system's (CCTV, fire detection & alarm system, screen door control equipment) integrated prototype display with ecological interface design framework and evaluated prototype display interface's usability with GOMS model. The result was that the ecological interface's performance was better than existing safety management system's interface.

  • 공유 저작물 플랫폼은 공유 저작물 활성화를 위해 만들어 졌다. 이용 허락 절차를 간소화 하고 저작자 스스로 이용 범위를 표기해 배포함으로써 저작물 이용을 활성화 한다. 본 연구는 한국 공유저작물 플랫폼의 인터페이스 유형 및 특성을 분석하기 위해 다섯 개의 인터페이스 영역과 열다섯 개의 평가 항목을 선정하였으며, 국가 운영 플랫폼을 중심으로 분석하였다. 국가 운영 공공저작물 플랫폼인 공유마당, 공공누리와 민간 주도인 유로피아나의 웹 인터페이스 유형 및 특성을 분석함으로서 한국 공유저작물 웹 인터페이스의 상황을 비교 분석하고 개선 방안을 제언하고자 한다.

  • 본 연구의 최종 목표는 모바일 인터넷 서비스의 사용편의성을 높이는 데 있어 그래픽디자인 평가 방법론을 개발하고, 인터페이스 디자인에서의 사용자 니즈(needs)를 예측할 수 있는 측정모델을 개발하며, 평가기반을 시스템화 하는데 있다. 이를 위해 GUI 디자인 평가 방법론의 핵심 내용을 시스템화하여 프로토타입(Prototype) 설계 및 평가과정을 직접 지원하는 UI 설계지원 시스템으로 구현하였다. Small Screen이라는 제한된 display 환경에서는 사용자가 인지의 과부하 없이 단시간에 임무를 완성하도록 조작정보의 흐름을 즉각적이고 함축적인 방법으로 알려줄 수 있는 사용자 중심의 시각언어-이미지를 이용하여야 하며, 또한 UI 설계에 반영함에 있어서는 객관성을 높여야만 한다. 이에 모바일 인터넷의 사용편의성을 체계적으로 평가할 수 있는 디자인 평가 방법론은 매우 중요하며, 특히 사용자의 디자인 니즈 및 트렌드(Trend)를 예측할 수 있는 그래픽디자인 평가모델은 사용자의 감성적인 측면을 인터페이스 디자인에 반영할 수 있다는 특성으로 해서 그 의의가 매우 크다고 할 것이다. 이러한 디자인 평가라는 결과를 토대로 모바일 인터넷 표준 GUI가 설계되었으며, 차후 유비쿼터스(Ubiquitous) 환경의 GUI 개발에도 활용이 될 수 있는 기초가 되었으면 한다.

Web을 기반으로 한 대학교 도서관 시스템에 있어서 용이한 인터페이스에 관한 연구 (Study on the Convenient Interface to the University Web-based Library System)

  • 대학 web도서관은 web으로 도서관에 소장된 서지나 기타 자료의 검색, 대출, 반납에 관한 정보의 처리가 가능하도록 되어 있는 도서관의 형태이다. 정보화 사회에 진입 한 이후 네트워크와 멀티미디어란 것의 등장으로 인해 정보전달 및 획득의 수단과 과정에 있어서 엄청난 변화를 겪고 있다. 이미지 화, 동영상 화 된 방대한 멀티미디어 정보들이 네트 워크를 통해 정보 제공자와 정보 사용자간의 물리적 거리에 대한 한계를 느끼지 못하게 되었다. 하지만, 이에 따르는 문제점으로는 저작잔 인식부족, 인프라의 미비, 기술적, 신뢰성 등으로 인해 발전이 요구되는 상태이다. 본 논문에서는 국정 대학 평가 기준에 근거하여 20개 대학의 web기반 도서관 site에서, 각 시스템별 검색 형식과 user interface를 비교, 분석하였다. 이에 기초하여 web기반 대학 도서관의 실험적 user interface를 제작하고, 이 interface에 대한 설문조사 및 데이터를 수집, 정리, 분석하였다. 이 결과를 현재web기반 대학도서관의 일반검색 시스템의 인터페이스에 적용하여 도서의 위치, 도서의 대출 및 검색회수, 대학 web도서관 내에서의 도서구입에 대한 기능을 포함하는 새로운 user interface를 제안하였다.

대학 캠퍼스 키오스크 UI 디자인 요소의 사용자 만족도에 관한 연구 (A Study on User Satisfacation of Kiosk UI Design Elements on University Campus)

  • The post-corona era is having a major impact on university campus life, and campus cultural life has undergone drastic changes. In the process of adapting to this change. The existing face-to-face learning method is converted to non-face-to-face learning, and kiosks representing campus self-service are increasingly used. Subsequently, in order to match the characteristics of public places such as university campuses and provide better self-service, there are no related studies considering UI design elements of kiosks and characteristics of kiosks. This study conducted a survey on Chinese university students considering the characteristics and usability of university campus kiosks through user interface design elements in terms of design by considering previous studies. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between color, icon, typography, which are elements of kiosk interface design, and convenience, reliability, and usability, which are characteristics of a kiosk. In this study, the design elements and characteristics of the unmanned self-service system kiosk UI used by students at four universities in Korea and China were set as the scope of the study, and related documents were organized and surveyed in Korea and China. Case analysis and comparison method Through the kiosk usage characteristics of 4 universities were derived. The usability evaluation criteria use the five evaluation criteria suggested by the authority JacobNidsn. The survey and analysis of this study were conducted for students who had experience using kiosks at two universities in China, and kiosk UI design elements were organized through survey and analysis of a total of 200 people.
