Botrylloides violaceus is native to the Northwest Pacific, including Korea. This species has many color variations in alive condition and a variety of zooid compound forms, and therefore difficult to identification in the field survey. This is the first report of COI DNA barcodes of B. violaceus from Korea. The intra-specific pairwise distance between Korean and UK populations had ranged from 1.4% to 2.6%. The inter-specific variations between B. violaceus and other Botrylloides species were 21.0-36.8%. The new DNA barcodes for Korean B. violaceus may be helpful in the identification of colonial ascidians, which is a difficult task when based on morphological identification.
An aegid species, Rocinela niponia Richardson, 1909, is a Far Eastern species known from Korean and Japanese waters. In this study, mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences of R. niponia were determined based on four specimens collected from the subtidal zone of Chujado Island, South Korea. We compared DNA barcoding data of this species with its congeners. As a result, there was no intra-specific genetic distance between the four COI sequences of R. niponia. Inter-specific distances between R. niponia and other five aegid species ranged from 23.8% to 35.6%. Morphological diagnosis and images of R. niponia are also provided as a valuable contribution toward the identification of Rocinela species in further taxonomic and ecological studies.
One marine ciliate, Diophrys quadrinucleata Zhang et al., 2020 was newly recorded from South Korea in this study. We provided morphological diagnosis and images of the Korean D. quadrinucleata population. We determined the small subunit ribosomal DNA (SSU rDNA) and cytochrome oxidase subunit I (CO1) sequence data of D. quadrinucleata, and then the sequences were compared with other Diophrys species. Intra-specific variation between the Korean and type (Chinese) populations was identical in the SSU rDNA, while the inter-specific variations between seven Diophrys species were 0.3-3.8% in the SSU rDNA and 12.6-18.2% in the CO1. In this study, we obtained 18S and CO1 data from species with identified morphology. As the importance of securing 18S and CO1 based on morphology increases in current studies, this study will contribute to ciliate studies.
A hesionid species, Leocratides kimuraorum Jimi, Tanaka and Kajihara, 2017 is newly reported from the sublittoral zones (100 m depth) of the Korean coasts. This species is characterized by lateral antennae as long as the palps, peristomial membrane without papillose, peristomial dorsolateral tubercles with two round marginal lobes, and pharyngeal with terminal papillae. The intra-specific genetic distance among the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I(COI) sequences of L. kimuraorum specimens from Japan (type locality) and Korea (this study) was in the range of 0.002-0.005. The inter-specific genetic distance between L. kimuraorum and other hesionid species were 0.166-0.307. The present study is the first record of Leocratides species in Korean fauna. This paper also provides a morphological description and photographs of L. kimuraorum, with partial sequences of the mitochondrial COI based on Korean specimens.
A rapid, sensitive, and specific enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA) for bovine casein was developed. Biotinylated casein and peroxidase-conjugated avidin were used in the assay with antibody separated from yolks of immunized hens. Caseins were biotinylated with sulfo-N-hydroxy succinimido biotin and peroxi-dase-conjugated avidin bound the biotinylated casein which became bound to immobilized anti-body on a microplate. The antibodies were specific for bovine $\alpha$- and $\beta$-caseins, and their cross-reactivities with whey proteins, IgG, and serum albumin from bovine were not detectable by ELISA and Western blot. Various sensitivities ranging from 2ng/ml to 20${\mu}\textrm{g}$/ml of casein were achieved, and were controlled by adding vanous concentrations of the biotinylated casein. Parallelism was observed between standard and sample curves. The coefficients of variation of intra-assays and inter-assays from the most sensitive assay were 5.5 and 5.7%, respectively, at the 50% displacement. Casein contents of peripaturient milk samples showed that casein secretion rapidly increased 3d prepartum.
Sweet potato feathery mottle virus(SPFMV) is one of the most prevalent viruses infecting sweet potatoes and occurs widely in sweet potato cultivating areas in Korea. To assess their genetic variation, a total of 28 samples infected with SPFMV were subjected to restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP) analysis using DNAs amplified by RT-PCR with specific primer sets corresponding to the coat protein(CP) region of the virus. The similarity matrix by UPGMA procedure indicated that 28 samples infected with SPFMV were classified into three groups based on the number and size of DNA fragments by digestion of CP-encoding regions with 7 enzymes including SalI, AluI, EcoRI, HindIII, FokI, Sau3AI, and DraI bands. Four primer combinations out of 5 designed sets were able to differentiate SPFMV and sweet potato virus G infection, suggesting that these specific primers could be used to differentiate inter-groups of SPFMV. Sequence analysis of the CP genes of 17 SPFMV samples were 97-99% and 91-93% identical at the intra-group and inter-groups of SPFMV, respectively. The N-terminal region of the CP is highly variable and examination of the multiple alignments of amino acid sequences revealed two residues(residues 31 and 32) that were consistently different between SPFMV-O and SPFMV-RC.
This experiment was conducted in order to understand the intra-and the inter-competition of arrowhead, Sagittaria trifolia L., under the conditions of arrowhead monoculture and rice-mixed culture, respectively. In arrowhead monoculture, the infra-specific competition in both shoot length and floral axis number began at 10 plants per $0.5m^2$ and that in leaf number, leaf length, dry shoot weight and formated tuber number did at 5 plants per $0.5m^2$. In the inter-specific competition according to arrowhead density in the constant rice-mixed culture, the plant height and the tiller number of rice decreased at 15 and 5 plants of arrowhead per $0.5m^2$, respectively. The dry top weight and the formated tuber number of arrowhead decreased with increase of arrowhead density. In the inter-competition according to rice plant density in the constant arrowhead-mixed stands, the dry matter weight and the produced tuber number of arrowhead decreased with increase of rice plant density and the plant height and the tiller number of rice also did with that. In the different transplantation time of rice, the growth in arrowhead became less in order of late transplantation>standard one>early one and the plant height and the tiller number of rice became more in order of that by comparing the percentage of growth under the mixed culture to that under the arrowhead monoculture.
The UV/O$_{3}$ dry cleaning has been well known in removing organic molecules. The UV/O$_{3}$ dry cleaning method was performed to clean the Si wafer surfaces and contact holes contaminated by organic molecules such as residual PR. During the cleaning process, the Si surfaces were analyzed with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscope (AFM) and ellipsometer. When the UV/O$_{3}$ dry cleaning at 200'C was performed for 3 minutes, the residual photoresist was almost removed on Si wafer surfaces, but Si surfaces were oxidized. For UV/O$_{3}$ application of contact hole cleaning, the contact string were formed using the equipment of ISRC (Inter-university Semiconductor Research Center). Before Al deposition, UV/O$_{3}$ (at 200.deg. C) dry cleaning was performed for 3 minutes. After metal annealing, the specific contact resistivity was measured. Because UV/O$_{3}$ dry cleaning removed organic contaminants in contact holes, the specific contact resistivity decreased. Each contact hole size was different, but the specific contact resistivities were all much the same. Thus, it is expected that the UV/O$_{3}$ dry cleaning method will be useful method of removal of the organic contaminants at smaller contact hole cleaning.
Motivated by learning from experience and exploiting existing knowledge in civil nuclear operations, we have developed in-house generic Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) models for pressurized and boiling water reactors. The models are computationally light, handy, transparent, user-friendly, and easily adaptable to account for major plant-specific differences. They cover the common internal initiating events, frontline and support systems reliability and dependencies, human-factors, common-cause failures, and account for new factors typically overlooked in many PSAs. For quantification, the models use generic US reliability data, precursor analysis reports, the ETHZ Curated Nuclear Events Database, and experts' opinions. Moreover, uncertainties in the most influential basic events are addressed. The generated results show good agreement with assessments available in the literature with detailed PSAs. We envision the models as an unbiased framework to measure nuclear operational risk with the same "ruler", and hence support inter-plant risk comparisons that are usually not possible due to differences in plant-specific PSA assumptions and scopes. The models can be used for initial risk screening, order-of-magnitude precursor analysis, and other research/pedagogic applications especially when no plant-specific PSAs are available. Finally, we are using the generic models for large-scale precursor analysis that will generate big picture trends, lessons, and insights.

This paper presents an ASIP(Application Specific Instruction Set Processor) for implementation of H.264/AVC, called VSIP(Video Specific Instruction-set Processor). The proposed VSIP has novel instructions and optimized hardware architectures for specific applications, such as intra prediction, in-loop deblocking filter, integer transform, etc. Moreover, VSIP has hardware accelerators for computation intensive parts in video signal processing, such as inter prediction and entropy coding. The VSIP has much smaller area and can dramatically reduce the number of memory access compared with commercial DSP chips, which result in low power consumption. The proposed VSIP can efficiently perform in real-time video processing and it can support various profiles and standards.
