  • This study proposes the accurate economic effect (employment inducement coefficient, hiring inducement coefficient, index of the sensitivity of dispersion, index of the power of dispersion, and ratio of value added) of Korea software industry by analyzing the inter-industry relation using the modified inter-industry table. Some previous studies related to the inter-industry analysis were reviewed and the key problems were identified. First, in the current inter-industry table publishedby the Bank of Korea, the output of software industry includes not only the output of pure software industry (package software and IT services) but also the output of non-software industry due to the misclassification of the industry. This causes the output to become bigger than the actual output of the software industry. Second, during rewriting the inter-industry table, the output is changing. The inter-industry table is the table in the form of rows and columns, which records the transactions of goods and services among industries which are required to continue the activities of each industry. Accordingly, if only an output of a specific industry is changed, the reliability of the table would be degraded because the table is prepared based on the relations with other industries. This possibly causes the economic effect coefficient to degrade reliability, over or under estimated. This study tries to correct these problems to get the more accurate economic effect of the software industry. First, to get the output of the pure software section only, the data from the Korea Electronics Association(KEA) was used in the inter-industry table. Second, to prevent the difference in the outputs during rewriting the inter-industry table, the difference between the output in the current inter-industry table and the output from KEA data was identified and then it was defined as the non-software section output for the analysis. The following results were obtained: The pure software section's economic effect coefficient was lower than the coefficient of non-software section. It comes from differenceof data to Bank of Korea and KEA. This study hasa signification from accurate economic effect of Korea software industry.

  • The resumption of economic cooperation between South and the North Korea will be a new growth engine for our economy. Many Korean companies are preparing to invest in North Korea in accordance with the progress of inter-Korean relations. However, there are many risks inherent in inter-Korean economic cooperation, as experienced in previous cases. Specifically, one should be prepared for unfair measures such as the expropriation of investment assets of South Korean enterprises by North Korea authorities. Therefore, it is essential to review the protection measures of investment in North Korea and to review the investment dispute settlement system. The South and the North have an agreement to establish the inter-Korean Commercial Arbitration Committee to resolve the disputes that may arise if one party's investments are lost due to inappropriate or unfair measures due to the other party's authority. However, the Investment Agreement, which governs the Inter-Korean Commercial Arbitration Committee, contains a number of declarative statements that are somewhat ineffective. Even today, nearly 20 years after the adoption of the Agreement, the specific detailed procedures have shown no real progress, such as in the enactment of arbitration rules. Therefore, at present, it is difficult to expect a system that can effectively address the damage of our corporations which have invested in North Korea. When the assets freeze after the suspension of Kumgang tourism and the closure of the Kaeseung Industrial Complex by North Korea, the activation of the inter-Korean Commercial Arbitration Committee is the most important prerequisite for economic cooperation with North Korea. For this purpose, the resolution of disputes through the Inter-Korean Commercial Arbitration Committee has to be made more concrete, with the effectiveness of the dispute settlement system enhanced by means of various efforts.

  • The current trend toward the utilization of the Internet as a common means for the offer of heterogeneous services imposes to address the issues related to end-to-end service assurance in the inter-domain scenario. In this paper, we first present an architecture for service management in networks based on service level specifications (SLS). The architecture is designed to be independent both of the specific network technology adopted and of the high level service semantics. Then, we focus on a specific functionality of the proposed architecture: Resource allocation in the multi-domain scenario. A distributed admission control algorithm is introduced, its complexity is evaluated and a comparison with related solutions is provided.

  • Until now, research on inter-Korean economic cooperation and economic integration has been limited to the areas of the two Koreas. However, Korea is connected with many countries in Asia through the global value chain. Thus, if inter-Korean trade deepens, it may affect the trade structure of neighboring countries. In order to establish a specific inter-Korean economic integration policy when North Korea becomes a normal state in the future, an analysis that reflects the trade structure including Northeast Asia must be preceded. Therefore, in this paper, the impact of inter-Korean trade on Korea, China and Japan was analyzed using the international input and output table containing actual trade data. The scope of analysis was limited to agriculture, reflecting North Korea's demand for economic cooperation. The results show that trade in the agricultural sector between the two Koreas did not have a significant effect of production and value added. but when China and Japan participate in trade with North Korea, the production effect was calculated to be as high as 4 million dollars in Korea and up to 10 million dollars in Japan. And China showed up to 520 million dollars. In addition, the value-added effect was calculated up to $1 million in Korea, up to $4 million in Japan, and up to $250 million in China.

  • Intra- and inter-specific protoplast fusion of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum cv. Virginia 115) and pea (Pisum sativum cv. Sparkle) were carried out in highly inhomogeneous alternating electric fields. Under the electric field of alternating current (AC, sine wave), 600 V/cm and 800 kHz for tobacco protoplast, and 600 V/cm and 700 kHz for pea protoplasts, the protoplasts were aggregated in pearl chains. Intra-specific protoplast fusions were most effectively induced within the aggregates of tobacco and pea, respectively, by the additional application of a single high field pulse of direct current (DC, square wave) at 1 kV/cm for 50 $mutextrm{s}$. Inter-specific fusions between protoplasts of the two plants were most effectively induced in the electric field of 600 V/cm and 700 kHz, and square wave pulse at 1 kV/cm for 50 $mutextrm{s}$. The duration of the pulse over the electrical breakdown voltages was simulated from 1 to 100 $mutextrm{s}$ in both tobacco and pea protoplast. The yield of the electrofusion products was significantly high (above 60%), compared with that (20%) of the standard fusion method by polyethylene glycol (PEG) 4,000, and the viability of electrofused protoplasts was above 70%, but that of PEG-fused protoplasts 8~16%, when determined by Evan's blue staining method.

  • Stomach contents of Amblychaeturichthys hexanema and A. sciistius (Perciformes: Gobiidae) from southeastern waters off Korea were analyzed to determine dietary habits and the presence of any inter- and intra-specific partitioning of food resources. These two species were bottom-feeding carnivores that consumed mainly benthic crustaceans, and other demersal invertebrates and planktonic organisms were also important in their diets. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) ordination and multivariate analyses based on gravimetric contributions of the different prey taxa to stomach contents revealed significant inter-specific dietary differences; i.e. partitioning of food resources between the two species. Size-related changes, however, were not significant for their diets. Differences in the types and range of prey ingested by the two species could often be related to differences in the feeding behaviors. Our results of stomach contents analyses provide clear evidence of niche segregation between co-occurring A. hexanema and A. sciistius in southeastern Korean waters, which would reduce the likelihood of inter-specific competition for food resources.

  • This paper explores two articulatory characteristics of inter-consonantal coordination observed in lingual-lingual (/kt/, /ks/) and labial-lingual (/pt/) sequences. Using electromagnetic articulometry (EMMA), temporal aspects of the lip movement and lingual movement (of the tongue tip and the tongue dorsum) were examined. Three sequences (/ks/, /kt/, /pt/) were investigated in two respects: gestural overlap in C1C2 and formation duration of coronals in C2 (/t/ or /s/). Results are summarized as follows. First, in a sequence of two stop consonants gestural overlap did not vary with order contrast or a low-level motor constraint on lingual articulators. Gestural overlap between two stop consonants was similar in both /kt/ (lingual-lingual; back-to-front) and /pt/ (labial-lingual; front-to-back). Second, gestural overlap was not simply constrained by place of articulation. Two coronals (/s/ and /t/) shared the same articulator, the tongue tip, but they showed a distinctive gestural overlap pattern with respect to /k/ in C1 (/ks/ (less overlap) < /kt/ (more overlap)). Third, temporal duration of the tongue tip gesture varied as a function of manner of articulation of the target segment in C2 (/ks/ (shorter) < /kt/ (longer)) as well as a function of place of articulation of the segmental context in C1 (/pt/ (shorter) < /kt/ (longer)). There are several implications associated with the results from Korean non-assimilating contexts. First, Korean can be better explained in the way of its language-specific gestural pattern; gestural overlap in Korean is not simply attributed to order contrast (front-to-back vs. back-to-front) or a physiological motor constraint on lingual articulators (lingual-lingual vs. nonlingual-lingual). Taking all factors into consideration, inter-gestural coordination is influenced not only by C1 (place of articulation) but also C2 (manner of articulation). Second, the jaw articulator could have been a factor behind a distinctive gestural overlap pattern in different C1C2 sequences (/ks/ (less overlap) vs. /kt/ and /pt/ (more overlap)). A language-specific gestural pattern occurred with reference to a physiological motor constraint on the jaw articulator.

  • Species-specific polymorphisms in chicken, pheasant, turkey, and quail were identified by cloning and sequencing of the immunoglobulin constant domain (IgLC). A set of species-specific primers were then designed on the basis of polymorphisms in the IgLC between species, as well as two additional sets of primers for the cytochrome b and tapasin genes, for the purpose of species identification. Together, the primers successfully distinguished specific species from chicken by species-specific PCR. This simple but unambiguous method may be used to screen avian inter-species germline chimeras, which are valuable models for the conservation of endangered species.

  • Dietary niches can support the coexistence of sympatric species in marine ecosystems, which can lead to the presence of greater abundances of those species. Stomach contents of silver croaker (Pennahia argentata) and Japanese sillago (Sillago japonica) inhabiting the Nakdong River estuary, Korea were analyzed to determine diet compositions and the presence of any size-related and inter-specific feeding relationships. These species were bottom-feeding predators that consumed mainly benthic crustaceans and mollusks, but polychaetes were also important in the S. japonica diets. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) ordination and multivariate analyses based on weight contributions of the different prey taxa to stomach contents revealed significant inter-specific dietary differences. Size-related change was also significant for P. argentata diets, but not for S. japonica. Canonical analysis of principal coordinate (CAP) ordination plot further demonstrated that differences in the type and range of prey ingested by the two species contributed such an inter-specific difference in the diet compositions. The results from this study provide clear evidence of niche segregation between co-occurring P. argentata and S. japonica in the Nakdong River estuary, which would reduce the likelihood of inter-specific competition for food resources.

  • This study investigated dietary habits and intra- and inter-specific food resource partitioning of co-occurring walleye pollock (Gadus chalcogrammus) and Pacific cod (G. macrocephalus) from the waters off the north-eastern coast of South Korea using stomach contents and stable isotopes (δ13C and δ15N) analyses. Both species are mesopelagic carnivores that consumed mainly benthopelagic crustaceans, but teleosts were also abundant in the diet of Pacific cod. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) ordination and permutational multivariate analysis of variance (PERMANOVA) of dietary data revealed significant intra- and inter-specific dietary differences, i.e., food resource partitioning. Nitrogen stable isotope values (δ15N) were similar between walleye pollock and Pacific cod, but carbon stable isotope values (δ13C) were significant different, suggesting different trophic positioning. Canonical analysis of principal coordinate (CAP) ordination plot further demonstrated that differences in the type and range of prey ingested by the two species contributed such an inter-specific difference in the diet compositions. Ontogenetic changes in diet compositions were evident. As walleye pollock, they preyed more upon carid shrimps and cephalopods, but no such trend was observed in the diets of Pacific cod. While stable isotope values indicated that large-sized specimens of both species were significantly enriched in 15N relative to smaller conspecifics thus supporting these data. Consequently, in this study, both methodologies, i.e., stomach contents and stable isotope analyses, provided evidence of inter- and/or intra-specific dietary segregations and trophic niche partitioning between co-occurring walleye pollock and Pacific cod off eastern Korean waters.
