  • We propose a method for geographically enhanced representation of social networks and implement a Web-based 3D visualization of geographical contexts in social networks. A renovated social network graph is illustrated by using two key components: (i) GWCMs (geographically weighted centrality measures) that reflect the differences in interaction intensity and spatial proximity among nodes and (ii) MSNG (map-integrated social network graph) that incorporates the GWCMs and the geographically referenced arrangement of nodes on a choroplethic map. For the integrated 3D visualization of the renovated social network graph, we employ X3D (Extensible 3D), a standard 3D authoring tool for the Web. An experimental case study of regional R&D collaboration provides a visual clue to geographical contexts in social networks including how the social centralization relates to spatial centralization.

  • Initial prevention activities and rapid propagation conditions is the most important to prevent diffusion of water pollution. If water pollutants flow into streams river or main stresm located in environmental conservation area or water intake facilities, we must predict immediately arrival time and the diffusion concentration to the proactive. National Institute of Environmental Research developed water pollution incident response prediction system linking dam and movable weir. the system is mathematical model which is updated daily. Therefore it can quickly predict the arrival time and the diffusion concentration when there are accident of oil spills and hazardous chemicals. Also we equipped with mathematical model and toxicity model of EFDC(Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code) to calculate the arrival time and the diffusion concentration. However these systems offer the services of an offline manner than real-time control services. we have ensured the reliability of data collection and have developed a real-time water quality measurement data transmission device by using the data linkage utilizing a mode bus communication and a commercial SCADA system, in particular, we implemented to be able to do real-time water quality prediction through information infrastructure of the water quality integrated management business created by utilizing the construction of the real-time prediction system that utilizes the data collected, the Open map, the visual representation using charts API and development of integrated management system development based on web maps.

  • Several studies have been performed globally on the construction of integrated systems that are available for the integrated use of 3D geographic information on terrain and oceans. Research on 3D geographic modeling is also facilitated by the application of Lidar surveying, which enables the highly accurate realization of 3D geographic information for a wide area of land. In addition, a few marine research organizations have been conducting investigations and surveying diverse ocean information for building and applying MGIS(Marine Geographic Information System). However, the construction of integrated geographic information systems for both terrain and oceans has certain limitations resulting from the inconsistency in reference systems and datum levels between two data. Therefore, in this investigation, integrated geospatial information has been realized by using a combined topographical map, after matching the reference systems and datum levels by integration of airborne Lidar data and multi-beam echo sounder data. To verify the accuracy of the integrated geospatial information data, ten randomly selected samples from study areas were selected and analyzed. The results show that the 10 analyzed data samples have an RMSE of 0.46m, which meets the IHO standard(0.5m) for depth accuracy of hydrographic surveys.

  • FCM(Fuzzy Cognitive Map) is proposed for representing causal reasoning. Its structure allows systematic causal reasoning through a forward inference. By using the FCM, authors have proposed FCM-based fault diagnostic algorithm. However, it can offer multiple interpretations for a single fault. In process engineering, as experience accumulated, some form of quantitative process knowledge is available. If this information can be integrated into the FCM-based fault diagnosis, the diagnostic resolution can be further improved. The purpose of this paper is to propose an enhanced FCM-based fault diagnostic scheme. Firstly, the membership function of fuzzy set theory is used to integrate quantitative knowledge into the FCM-based diagnostic scheme. Secondly, modified TAM recall procedure is proposed. Considering that the integration of quantitative knowledge into FCM-based diagnosis requires a great deal of engineering efforts, thirdly, an automated procedure for fusing the quantitative knowledge into FCM-based diagnosis is proposed by utilizing self-learning feature of neural network. Finally, the proposed diagnostic scheme has been tested by simulation on the two-tank system.

  • Drought is a serious diaster in agriculutre, especially to upland crops. Hence, the Agricultural Drought Analysis Model (ADAM) that is integratable with GIS was applied to analyae agriculture drought in upland. ADAM is composed of two sub-models , one is a Soil Water Balance Model (SWBM) and the other is a Drougth Analysis Model (DAM) that is based on the Runs theory. The ADAM needs weather data, rainfall data and soil physical characteristics data as input and calculates daily soil moisture contents. GIS was integrated to the ADAM for the calculation of regional soil moisture using digitized landuse map, detaile dsoil map, thiessen network and district boundary . For the agriculutral drought analysis, the ADAM adapt the Runs theory for analyzing drought duration, severity and magnitude . Log-Pearson Type-III probability distribution function and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test were used to test the fitness of good of the model. The integration of ADAM with GIS was successfully implemented and would be operated effectively for the regional drought analysis.

  • In this study, we tried to utilize results of the change detection analysis for satellite images as the basis for updating the land cover map. The Sequential Spectral Change Vector Analysis ($S^2CVA$) was applied to multi-temporal multispectral satellite imagery in order to extract changed areas, efficiently. Especially, we minimized the false alarm rate of unsupervised change detection due to the seasonal variation using the direction information in $S^2CVA$. The binary image, which is the result of unsupervised change detection, was integrated with the existing land cover map using the zonal statistics. And then, object-based analysis was performed to determine the changed area. In the experiment using PlanetScope data and the land cover map of the Ministry of Environment, the change areas within the existing land cover map could be detected efficiently.

  • Mapping and navigation system based on certainty grids for an autonomous mobile robt operating in unknown and unstructured environment is described. The system uses sonar range data to build a map of robot's surroundings. The range data from sonar sensor are integrated into a probability map that is composed of two dimensional grids which contain the probabilities of being occupied by the objects in the environment. A Bayesian model is used to estimate the uncertainty of the sensor information and to update the existing probability map with new range data. The resulting two dimensional map is used for path planning and navigation. In this paper, the Bayesian updating model which was successfully simulated in our earlier work is implemented on a mobile robot and is shown to be valid in the real world through experiment. This paper also proposes a technique for reducing for reducing specular reflection problem of sonar system which seriousely deteriorates the map quality, and a new path planning method based on weighted distance, which enables the robot to efficiently navigate in an unknown area.
