Sensorless Speed Control of Induction Motor by Neural Network (신경회로망을 이용한 유도전동기의 센서리스 속도제어)

  • Generally, induction motor controller requires rotor speed sensor for commutation and current control, but it increases cost and size of the motor. So in these days, various researches including speed sensorless vector control have been reported and some of them have been put to practical use. In this paper a new speed estimation method using neural networks is proposed. The optimal neural network structure was tracked down by trial and error, and it was found that the 8-16-1 neural network has given correct results for the instantaneous rotor speed. Supervised learning methods, through which the neural network is trained to learn the input/output pattern presented, are typically used. The back-propagation technique is used to adjust the neural network weights during training. The rotor speed is calculated by weights and eight inputs to the neural network. Also, the proposed method has advantages such as the independency on machine parameters, the insensitivity to the load condition, and the stability in the low speed operation.

A Study on Entrance Length of Developing Transitional Steady Flows in a Square Duct (4각 덕트의 입구영역에서 천이 정상유동의 입구길이에 관한 연구)

  • In the present study, the entrance length, velocity profiles and waveforms of developing transitional steady flows in a square duct are investigated analytically and experimentally. The systems of conservation equations for transitional steady duct flows are solved analytically by linearizing non-linear convective terms and adoption of modified eddy viscosity from empirical correlations. Analytical solutions of velocity profiles for developing transitional steady flow were obtained in the form of infinite series. The experimental study for transitional steady flow in a square duct with $40mm{\times}40mm{\times}4000mm$($width{\times}height{\times}length$) was carried out to measure velocity profiles and other parameters by using a hot-wire anemometer with data acquisition and processing system. The entrance length of developing transitional steady flows in a square duct was $L_e{\fallingdotseq}0.02{\cdot}Re,st{\cdot}D_h$, and the overshoot was occured at about 30 times of hydraulic diameter because of the effect of external velocity of boundary layer and instantaneous acceleration.

  • Understanding the slag flow behavior is important in an entrained coal gasifier for its influence of ash discharge and wall heat transfer rate. This study presents a new model to predict the transient behavior of the liquid and solid slag layers. Unlike the previous steady-state model, the solid slag layer was included in solving the governing equations in order to identify the temporal and spatial transformation between the solid-liquid slag, rather than treating the solid region as a boundary condition of the liquid layer. The performance of the new model was evaluated for changes in the slag deposition rate (${\pm}10%$) and gas temperature (${\pm}50K$) in a simple cylindrical gasifier. The results show that the characteristic times to reach a new steady-state ranged between 80 s to 180s for the changes in the two parameters. Because the characteristic times of the gasifier temperature and slag deposition rate by changes in the coal type and/or operating conditions would be almost instantaneous, the time-scale for the slag thickness at the bottom of the gasifier to stabilize was much larger.

  • This paper presents a detailed realization of direct torque controlled induction motor drive for elevator applications. The drive is controlled according to the well-known space vector modulated direct control scheme (SVM-DTC). As the elevator drives are usually equipped with speed sensors, flux estimation is carried out using a current model where two stator currents are measured and accurate instantaneous rotor speed measurement is used to overcome the need for measuring stator voltages. Speed profiling for a comfortable elevator ride and other supervisory control activities to provide smooth operation are also explained. The drive performance is examined and controllers' parameters are fine-tuned using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The blocks used for flux and torque estimation and control in the offline simulation are compiled for real-time using dSPACE Microlabox. The performance of the drive has been verified experimentally. The results show good performance under transient and steady state conditions.

  • DC motor requires a rotor speed sensor for accurate speed control. The speed sensors such as resolvers and encoders are used as speed detectors. but they increase cost and size of the motor and restrict the industrial drive applications. So in these days. many Papers have reported on the sensorless operation or DC motor(3)-(5). This paper Presents a new sensorless strategy using neural networks(6)-(8). Neural network structure has three layers which are input layer. hidden layer and output layer.   • Spray characteristics of an injector in a small liquid rocket engine (LRE) is characterized by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and Dual-mode Phase Doppler Anemometry (DPDA). Instantaneous plane images captured by PIV are examined for the qualitative prediction of spray breakup with the setup of evaluation technique for effect of spray angles on injector performance. DPDA is also applied in order to quantify the average velocity, turbulent intensity, SMD, and number density of spray droplets along the spray stream distance leading to precise observation of spray atomization behavior. An objective of the study is the derivation of design parameters of new injectors and the establishment of performance criteria through the clear understanding of spray characteristics.

An Investigation on the Macroscopic Spray Behavior of Nonimpinging-type Injector through Optical Measurement Technique (광학계측기법에 의한 비충돌형 인젝터의 거시적 분무거동 고찰)

  • This study is an investigation on macroscopic spray behavior of nonimpinging-type injector equipped on the hydrazine thruster under development. An electron microscope is employed for the acceptance examination of injector orifice. Initial performance characteristics and spray behavior of injector are observed through the instantaneous spray images which are captured by high speed camera and Schlieren method with varying injection pressures. The injector performance is scrutinized by the velocity along with penetration length of spray and categorized by dimensionless parameters. It is confirmed that there exist varying characteristics related to the spray breakup caused by fabrication errors of injector-orifices. Unexpected spray behavior, which needs to be reexamined, is grasped at specific pressure level, as well.

Compressive and flexural behaviour of recycled aggregate concrete filled steel tubes (RACFST) under short-term loadings

  • The behaviour of hollow structural steel (HSS) stub columns and beams filled with normal concrete and recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) under instantaneous loading was investigated experimentally. A total of 40 specimens, including 30 stub columns and 10 beams, were tested. The main parameters varied in the tests were: (1) recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement ratio, from 0 to 50%, (2) sectional type, circular and square. The main objectives of these tests were threefold: first, to describe a series of tests on new composite columns; second, to analyze the influence of RCA replacement ratio on the compressive and flexural behaviour of recycled aggregate concrete filled steel tubes (RACFST), and finally, to compare the accuracy of the predicted ultimate strength, bending moment capacity and flexural stiffness of the composite specimens by using the recommendations of ACI318-99 (1999), AIJ (1997), AISC-LRFD (1999), BS5400 (1979), DBJ13-51-2003 (2003) and EC4 (1994).

Dynamic modeling and structural reliability of an aeroelastic launch vehicle

  • The time-varying structural reliability of an aeroelastic launch vehicle subjected to stochastic parameters is investigated. The launch vehicle structure is under the combined action of several stochastic loads that include aerodynamics, thrust as well as internal combustion pressure. The launch vehicle's main body structural flexibility is modeled via the normal mode shapes of a free-free Euler beam, where the aerodynamic loadings on the vehicle are due to force on each incremental section of the vehicle. The rigid and elastic coupled nonlinear equations of motion are derived following the Lagrangian approach that results in a complete aeroelastic simulation for the prediction of the instantaneous launch vehicle rigid-body motion as well as the body elastic deformations. Reliability analysis has been performed based on two distinct limit state functions, defined as the maximum launch vehicle tip elastic deformation and also the maximum allowable stress occurring along the launch vehicle total length. In this fashion, the time-dependent reliability problem can be converted into an equivalent time-invariant reliability problem. Subsequently, the first-order reliability method, as well as the Monte Carlo simulation schemes, are employed to determine and verify the aeroelastic launch vehicle dynamic failure probability for a given flight time.

Recovery of 3-D Motion from Time-Varying Image Flows

  • In this paper we deal with the problem of recovering 3-D motion and structure from a time-varying 2-D velocity vector field. A great deal has been done on this topic, most of which has concentrated on finding necessary and sufficient conditions for there to be a unique 3-D solution corresponding to a given 2-D motion. While previous work provides useful theoretical insight, in most situations the known algorithms have turned out to be too sensitive to be of much practical use. It appears that any robust algorithm must improve the 3-D solutions over time. As a step toward such algorithm, we present a method for recovering 3-D motion and structure from a given time-varying 2-D velocity vector field. The surface of the object in the scene is assumed to be locally planar. It is also assumed that 3-D velocity vectors are piecewise constant over three consecutive frames (or two snapshots of flow field). Our formulation relates 3-D motion and object geometry with the optical flow vector as well as its spatial and temporal derivatives. The linearization parameters, or equivalently, the first-order flow approximation (in space and time) is sufficient to recover rigid body motion and local surface structure from the local instantaneous flow field. We also demonstrate, through a sensitivity analysis carried out for synthetic and natural motions in space, that 3-D motion can be recovered reliably.
