초등학생의 자유 탐구 활동 보고서의 평가 준거 개발 및 적용 (Development and Application of Evaluation Criteria for Free Inquiry Activity Reports of Elementary School Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop criteria for evaluating final reports of free inquiry activity and to apply developed evaluation criteria to free inquiry activity reports. 323 inquiry reports submitted to internal contests in the elementary schools as well as 189 award-winning ones from the inquiry competition for students in Seoul were collected. Nine categories and 18 sub-categories of evaluation criteria were derived by collecting reports analysis, literature reviews and interviews with 15 elementary school teachers. Criteria for each sub-category were organized into three steps and 12 elementary school teachers assigned scores for each sub-category, which were averaged. 132 including both award-winning and general reports were evaluated based on the developed evaluation criteria. The content validity and the reliability across scorers were significant. Furthermore, award-winning and general reports were significantly distinguished by the developed criteria in terms of all sub-category scores. The developed evaluation criteria will be an effective tool to asses student's free inquiry activity.

뇌 기반 과학 교수 학습 모형을 적용한 "슬기로운 생활" 수업의 효과 (The Effects of a Brain-Based Science Teaching and Learning Model on ${\ulcorner}$Intelligent Life${\lrcorner}$ Course of Elementary School)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a brain-based science teaching and learning model on the science related attitudes, scientific inquiry skills and science knowledge of the 2nd graders in Intelligent Life course. For this study, 117 elementary students from four classes of the 2nd grade in Seoul were selected. In the comparison group, traditional instruction was implemented and in the experimental group, instruction according to brain-based science teaching and learning model was implemented for four weeks. The results of this study were as follows : There were little differences between the comparison and experimental groups in terms of the science related attitudes except for the sub-domains of interest and curiosity. And brain-based science teaching and learning model programs improved a few scientific inquiry skills, especially observation and classification. In addition, the experimental groups showed a positive effect on science knowledge. In conclusion, brain-based science teaching and learning model programs were more effective in improvement of the science related attitudes, scientific inquiry skills and science knowledge of elementary students.

초등학생의 '증거' 사용에 따른 '과학적 정당화' 활동의 분석 (Analysis of Elementary Students' Scientific Justification Activities based on Evidence)

  • For this study, inquiry-based learning program was developed for promoting elementary students' scientific justification activities based on their uses of scientific evidences. The program was applied to the 5th grade science class to examine the types of evidences and major features of scientific justification activities. Analysis of the data showed that the evidences used by students were classified into knowledge-based evidence, experience-based evidence and authority-based evidence. As for students' justification features, this study reports three major cases: a case evolving evidence and justification to become more valid and logical, as inquiry activities progressed, other case maintaining less valid and illogical evidence and justification, and final case revealing passive and reluctant participation in the inquiry activities. Overall, students' participation in scientific justification process became more valid and relevant, while there were some students who were unable to make the relevant relations between evidences and claims they made. The educational implications were discussed to consider more effective ways to improve the scientific classroom environment through social knowledge construction.

과학 탐구 지도에 대한 초등학교 교사들의 인식 조사 (Investigation of elementary teachers' perspectives on science inquiry teaching)

  • 본 연구에서는 초등학교 교사들의 과학 탐구 지도에 대한 인식을 조사하였다. 먼저 교사들의 탐구 지도 경험에 대해 자유롭게 서술하도록 하여, 교사들이 인식하고 있는 탐구 지도 유형을 세 가지로 분류할 수 있었다. 관찰, 분류, 측정, 예상, 공정한 비교 등을 강조하는 '과학 과정기능 중심' 범주, 학생들이 스스로 문제를 생성하도록 하는 '과학 문제 발견' 범주, 그리고 제시된 절차에 따라 실험을 수행하며 과학적 개념이나 내용을 증명하는 '개념이나 내용 예증' 범주이다. 다음으로 18개의 활동이 각각 적힌 카드를 '탐구를 통한 과학 수업' 카드를 중심으로 한 이차원적 평면에 자유롭게 배치하도록 한 후, 중심 카드와 각 카드 사이의 상대적인 거리를 측정하였다. '학생들이 적절한 절차를 설계하고 수행'하는 것이 탐구와 가장 밀접하게 관련 있는 활동으로 인식되고 있었다. 이러한 결과는 (예비)교사의 탐구 이해도를 증진시키기 위해 적극 활용되어야 하고, 나아가 초등학교 현장에서 탐구를 통한 과학교육이 보다 활성화되어야 할 것이다.

2007년 개정 초등 5, 6학년 과학 교과서 물질 영역에 제시된 탐구 활동 분석 (Analysis of Inquiry Activities in Matter Units from the Elementary 5th and 6th Grade Science Textbooks based on the 2007 Revised National Curriculum)

  • This study analyzed the inquiry activities in the 'matter' units from each science textbook for the fifth and the sixth graders developed by the 2007 revised national curriculum, using Practical Activity Analysis Inventory proposed by Millar(2009) to examine types of learning objectives, hands-on contents(what students have to do with objects and materials), minds-on contents(what students have to 'do' with ideas), and logical structure each activity had. The results of this study are as follows: First, most learning objectives of the inquiry activities seems to be suitable for the standards of 2007 revised national curriculum. Second, the standards of 2007 revised national curriculum are properly reflected in hands-on contents of inquiry activities. Third, minds-on contents of inquiry activities are well developed to meet the standards of 2007 revised national curriculum as a whole. Fourth, the logical structures of inquiry activities are mostly adequate for achieving the goals of the 2007 revised national curriculum. In the textbook for the fifth graders, however, all the activities are focusing too much on using students' current ideas to generate a prediction and collecting data to explore or test it. Based on these findings, this research has concluded that learning objectives, minds-on contents and logical structures of inquiry activities need to be designed carefully for students to be exposed to various activities when developing following textbooks.

제 7차 교육과정 7학년 과학 교과 생명 영역의 탐구 분석 (Analysis of Inquiry Activities Presented in the 7th Grade Life Science Textbooks based on the 7th Curriculum)

  • 본 연구는 제 7차 교육과정 하에서 개발된 제시된 탐구 활동을 탐구 과정, 탐구 상황 및 탐구 유형 측면을 분석함으로써 교과서의 개발과 학습에 대한 교육적 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. 따라서, 제 7차 교육과정 7학년 과학 교과서 생명 영역에 제시된 탐구 활동을 탐구 유형, 탐구 과정 요소 및 탐구 상황으로 구분하여 출판사별로 비교 분석하였다. 분석에 사용된 교과서는 검정되어 현재 학교에서 사용되고 있는 6종을 대상으로 하였으며, 생명 영역의 '생물의 구성', '소화와 순환', '호흡과 배설' 등 총 3개 단원의 탐구 활동을 분석하였다. 탐구 분석 결과 교육과정의 개발과 교과서의 개발 시 탐구 활동이 탐구 유형이나 탐구 과정 요소 및 탐구 상황의 편중성이 두드러졌으며, 학교 현장에서는 이러한 부분을 보완할 수 있도록 학생들을 지도하여야 할 것으로 사료된다. 또한, 과하고가 교육 목표에 부합되는 교과서의 개발을 위한 탐구 활동에 대한 검토와 교과서 검정 기준에 탐구 활동의 평가 틀을 제공하여야 할 것이다.

초등교사의 과학적 탐구 이해의 수준과 실태 분석 (Analysis of Elementary Teachers' Understanding Level and Actual State About Scientific Inquiry)

  • 본 연구는 초등교사의 과학적 탐구에 관한 이해 수준과 실태를 조사하여 과학 탐구 지도에 대한 시사점을 도출하는데 목적이 있다. D광역시 초등교사 42명을 대상으로 과학적 탐구에 관한 관점(Views About Scientific Inquiry)설문지를 사용하여 설문조사를 실시했다. 응답한 결과를 분석 준거에 따라 초등교사의 8가지 과학적 탐구에 관한 이해 수준을 3단계(전문가적, 과도기적, 초보자적)로 구분하여 과학적 탐구의 이해 실태를 조사하였다. 그리고 연구대상의 특성이 과학적 탐구 수준에 영향을 미치는지 분석했다. 그 결과 과학적 탐구의 8가지 특성 중 '탐구 방법은 의문 해결에 적합해야 한다'와 '탐구 결론은 반드시 수집된 자료와 일치해야 한다'는 2가지 특성에서 전문가적 수준 비율이 높게 나타났다. 나머지 관점에서는 대부분의 초등교사가 과도기와 초보자적 수준으로 나타났고 전문가적 수준은 상대적으로 매우 적었다. 이는 현장에서 탐구에 대해 가르치고 있는 초등교사의 과학적 탐구에 관한 이해가 제한적이라는 것을 시사하고 있다. 그리고 연구대상의 경력, 과학관련 연수이수 여부는 과학적 탐구에 관한 이해에 큰 영향을 미치지 않는다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 학생을 지도한 경험과 현재까지 개설된 과학관련 연수들이 과학적 탐구에 관한 이해를 높이는데 큰 영향을 미치지 않는다는 것을 시사하고 있다. 따라서 과학 탐구 지도를 위해 초등교사의 과학적 탐구에 관한 이해를 증진시킬 필요가 있고 이를 위한 기존의 교사 교육 방식과 다른 형태의 방안이 마련될 필요가 있다.

초등수학 교과서 탐구활동 분석 및 재구성 연구 (A Study on the Analysis of Inquiry Activities of Elementary Mathematics Textbook and the Development of Reorganization Materials)

  • 2007 개정 교육과정에 따른 수학교과서에 처음으로 도입된 '탐구활동'이 어떻게 지도되고 있는가? 수학 탐구활동의 내용으로 적합하게 구성되어있는가? 수학적 탐구활동의 전제와 내용은 어떤 것이 좋은가? 이와 같은 문제에 답하기 위해 먼저 설문조사를 실시하여 탐구활동에 대한 교사들의 인식, 교육 현장에서의 지도 실태와 탐구활동 내용 및 유형의 적합성, 지도의 어려움과 재구성 자료의 필요성에 대해 알아보았다. 그리고 수학과 목표를 참고한 분석 기준을 설정하여 측정영역에서 교과서의 탐구활동을 분석하여 재구성할 필요가 있는 부분에 대해서는 대안을 제시하고 그 결과를 수업에 적용하여 학생들의 반응을 기술하였다.

환경교육적 탐구를 통한 유역 중심의 물 환경교육 교재화 연구 - 무심천 유역을 중심으로 - (A Study on Realization of Teaching Material of Watershed Water Environmental Education by Inquiry with the Perspective of Environmental Education - Focusing on the Watershed Musim Cheon (Stream) -)

  • The purpose of this study is to realize the teaching material, which develops the Model of Watershed Water Environment Education(EE) Textbook, by seeking for a method of the Inquiry with the Perspective of EE and by questing for the contents of watershed water environment necessary for Water EE with the Perspective of EE. First, the value of watershed EE was reilluminated through the literature analysis on the watershed. And 'Inquiry with the Perspective of EE' methodology was newly presented that quests for the contents necessary and proper for EE from the viewpoint of EE. Also, with suggesting it as concept and methodology of 'Inquiry with the Perspective of Watershed EE' by considering the value of EE in Water EE, it presented the content approach direction in the inquiry and the contents of the specific inquiry. Second, through the Inquiry with the Perspective of EE into water environment of the watershed Musim cheon (stream), which is a case region, it allowed the watershed water environment to be able to be synthetically understood. As for a sphere of the inquiry, 5 spheres were sought by taking into account a relation to a human being, as well as the water environment itself of the watershed Musim cheon (stream). Third, Based on the contents of the Inquiry with the Perspective of EE into the watershed Mlisim cheon (stream), 'the Model of Watershed Water EE Textbook' for middle-school students was developed. This model of textbook was selected largely four parts, and was organized with 10 learning objectives and 11 activities.

고등학교 생물과 탐구 학습의 실태 조사와 문제점 분석 (Inquiry Learning in the high School Biology: Status Survey and Problem Analysis)

  • This study analyzed the problem associated with inquiry centered science education and formulated some improvement Strategies for inquiry learning in the standard Korean high school course. In order to attain the goals of questionaire survey methods were used. To examine the current status of biology education, seperate questionaires were developed through an educational research and development procedure used for tearchers and student. The questionaires were developed to ask about instruction and evaluation methods, the level of inquiry learing and abstacles to it. Here are some of our results: 1) Biology instruction and learning is more knowledge-orinted than inquiry-orinted, 2) Inquiry approach in science teaching is hard to be applied because of crowed classroom conditions. 3) The material is too broad in range and too difficult in content. There is virtually nothing that can be related to everyday life. The material focusing on inquiry activities is unsatisfactorily selected and organized. 4) Effective methods of inquiry-based instruction and evaluation are not available. 5) Biology teachers are burdened with too many class hour a week and too many varieties of additional works. 6) 91.1% of biology teachers and 90.3% of students recognize that lab and field works are needed to enhance inquiry learning. However, in reality, such inquiry activities are lacking. 7) 73.3% of schools have no lab assistants. 8) The university entrance examination is the greatest factor against inquiry learning. 9) There are very few chances of in-service education for biology teachers to learn more about biology curriculum and science education theory.
