The input impedances of pulse width modulated (PWM) dc-to-dc converters, which dictate the outcomes of the dynamic interaction between dc-to-dc converters and their source subsystem, are analyzed in a general and unified manner. The input impedances of three basic PWM dc-to-dc converters are derived with both voltage mode control and current mode control. This paper presents the analytical expressions of the 24 input impedances of three basic PWM dc-to-dc converters with the two different control schemes in a factorized time-constant form. It also provides a comprehensive reference for future dynamic interaction analyses requiring knowledge of the converters' input impedances. The theoretical predictions of the paper are all supported by measurements on prototype dc-to-dc converters. The use of the presented results is demonstrated via a practical application example, which analyzes the small-signal dynamics of an input-filter coupled current-mode controlled buck converter. This elucidates the theoretical background for the previously-reported eccentric behavior of the converter.
Input filters are very important to matrix converters (MCs). They are used to improve grid side current waveform quality and to reduce the input voltage distortion supplied to the grid side. Due to the effects of the input filter and the output power, the grid side power factor (PF) is not at unity when the input power factor angle is zero. In this paper, the displacement angle between the grid side phase current and the phase voltage affected by the input filter parameters and output power is analyzed. Based on this, a new grid side PF unity compensation method implemented in the indirect space vector pulse width modulation (ISVPWM) method is presented, which has a larger compensation angle than the traditional compensation method, showing a higher grid side PF at unity in a wide output power range. Simulation and experimental results verify that the analysis of the displacement angle between the grid side phase current and the phase voltage affected by the input filter and output power is right and that the proposed compensation method has a better grid side PF at unity.

This paper proposes a quasi Z-source converter(QZSC) with a diode-capacitor output filter to improve the output DC voltage boost ability. The proposed converter has the same quasi Z-source network topology compared with the conventional converter. But the proposed method is adopted a diode-capacitor filter as its output filter, since the conventional method is used an inductor-capacitor as its output filter. Under the condition of the same input-output DC voltage, the proposed method has more lower shoot-through duty ratio than the conventional method. Also, because the proposed converter has same voltage boost factor under lower shoot-through duty ratio compared with the conventional converter, the proposed converter can be operated with the lower capacitor voltage of Z-source network and the lower input current. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, PSIM simulation and a DSP based experiment were performed to acquire the output DC voltage 120[V] under the input DC voltage 80[V]. And the capacitor voltage and inductor current in Z-source network, the output voltage of each converter were compared and discussed.
A study on an integrated single stage AC/DC converter is presented in this paper. The input current can be controlled by the auxiliary winding($L_{aux}$), auxiliary primary winding($N_3$), and the boost inductor($L_B$) which are designed to operate in discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) to reduced the total harmonic distortion(THD) of input current. The auxiliary primary winding($N_3$) is critically selected in order to compress the input capacitor voltage($V_{in}$) as well as to reduce the current stress of the switch(Q). Low total harmonic distortion(THD), low input voltage($V_{in}$) in universal input voltage($V_{AC}$), low current stress at the switching device and high efficiency are the main consideration keys in this design to achieve high performance system with low cost of single stage AC/DC converter. A 30W single stage AC/DC prototype converter is under study.
This study presents an input-powered high-efficiency interface circuit for energy harvesting systems, and introduces a zero standby power design to reduce power consumption significantly while removing the external power supply. This interface circuit is composed of two stages. The first stage voltage doubler uses a positive feedback control loop to improve considerably the conversion speed and efficiency, and boost the output voltage. The second stage active diode adopts a common-grid operational amplifier (op-amp) to remove the influence of offset voltage in the traditional comparator, which eliminates leakage current and broadens bandwidth with low power consumption. The system supplies itself with the harvested energy, which enables it to enter the zero standby mode near the zero crossing points of the input current. Thereafter, high system efficiency and stability are achieved, which saves power consumption. The validity and feasibility of this design is verified by the simulation results based on the 65 nm CMOS process. The minimum input voltage is down to 0.3 V, the maximum voltage efficiency is 99.6% with a DC output current of 75.6 μA, the maximum power efficiency is 98.2% with a DC output current of 40.4 μA, and the maximum output power is 60.48 μW. The power loss of the entire interface circuit is only 18.65 μW, among which, the op-amp consumes only 2.65 μW.
Input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) connected DC-DC converters enable low voltage rating switches to be used in high voltage input applications. In this paper, a DSP is adopted to generate digital phase-shifted PWM signals and to fulfill the closed-loop control function for ISOP connected two full-bridge DC-DC converters. Moreover, a stable output current sharing control strategy is proposed for the system, with which equal sharing of the input voltage and the load current can be achieved without any input voltage control loops. Based on small signal analysis with the state space average method, a loop gain design with the proposed scheme is made. Compared with the conventional IVS scheme, the proposed strategy leads to simplification of the output voltage regulator design and better static and dynamic responses. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified by the simulation and experimental results of an ISOP system made up of two full-bridge DC-DC converters.

This study proposes a high efficiency bridgeless Power Factor Correction (PFC) converter with improved common mode noise characteristics. Conventional PFC has limitations due to low efficiency and enlarged heat sink from considerable conduction loss of bridge diode. By applying a Common Mode (CM) coupled inductor, the proposed bridgeless PFC converter generates less conduction loss as only a small magnetizing current of the CM coupled inductor flows through the input diode, thereby reducing or removing heat sink. The input diode is alternately conducted every half cycle of 60 Hz AC input voltage while a negative node of AC input voltage is always connected to the ground, thus improving common mode noise characteristics. With the aim to improve switching loss and reverse recovery of output diode, the proposed circuit employs Critical Conduction Mode (CrM) operation and it features a simple Zero Current Detection (ZCD) circuit for the CrM. In addition, the input current sensing is possible with the shunt resistor instead of the expensive current sensor. Experimental results through 480 W prototype are presented to verify the validity of the proposed circuit.
This paper presents a PFC(Power Factor Correction) system to control the power factor of input current of the converter system which is working in the propulsion system of KTX high speed train. In the KTX train system, initially introduced from ALSTOM, the thyristor converter with phase controlling technique is adopted in the current fed type powering system. The input current induces harmonic losses highly because the waveform becomes rectangular shapes according to the filter inductor current increased as the train speed increasing gradually. Especially the interference with the signalling systems is severe concerned due to high current harmonics on the catenary line. To protect this problem, a frequency trap filter(notch filter) is operating with the input converter system. In this paper, an analysis work and PC simulation have been done on the PFC system to upgrade its performance and maintenance efficiency.

In this paper, we have demonstrated absolute wavelength tuning in an optical fiber comb filter based on a polarization-diversity loop configuration by controlling the current injected into enameled wires wound on polarization-maintaining fibers (PMF's), that is, adjusting Joule heat generated from enameled wires. The proposed fiber comb filter consists of a polarization beam splitter, a half-wave plate, a quarter-wave plate, and PMF's. And we observed wavelength change of spectral dips in transmission spectra of the fabricated filter by varying an input current applied to enameled wires. The absolute wavelength of the filter could be controlled in proportional to the square of the input current with good linearity, and the rate of the wavelength shift with respect to the input current was measured as 36.79[nm/$A^2$].
In this paper, a three phase boost converter that operates with unity power factor and sinusodial input currents is presented. The current control of the converter is based on the space vector strategy with fixed switching frequency and the input current tracks the reference current within one sampling time interval. Space vector strategy for current control was materialized as a digital control method by using DSP. By using this control strategy low ripples in the output voltage, low harmonics in the input current and fast dynamic responses are achieved with a small capacitance in the dc link.
