A multi-section DFB-LD shows optical bistability subject to externally injected light signal, then it has potential applications such as wavelength conversion and optical logic gates. In this paper, we have studied the optical bistability in multi-section DFB-LD using split-step time-domain model. It is confirmed that the multi-section DFB-LD, which is excited inhomogeneously, shows bistability. The optical bistable characteristics are investigated when input light is injected into a absorptive region. Simulation results show that multi-section DFB-LD works as a flip-flop depending on the set-reset optical pulse which has a few ns in switching time and a few pj in switching energy, so that it can act as a optical logic device. Besides, if we change the carrier lifetime and the differential gain coefficient, it is expected that the response time of optical output signal can be reduced.
We present a method to reproduce in-between views from captured stereo images to control depth feeling that a user can perceive on a 3D display. The stereo images captured from a pair of cameras have a fixed viewpoint and a screen parallax which depend on the physical position and the distance between the cameras. In this paper, we produce stereo images of an intermediate viewpoint between two original cameras by a view interpolation on the input stereo images. Furthermore, the camera separation of the reproduced stereo images can be controlled by a linear interpolation coefficient used by the view interpolation. By using the proposed method, stereo images can be reproduced where the depth feeling and a three dimensional effect is suitable for the individual's eye separation or the characteristic of an application.
Estimation of runoff peak is needed to assess water availability, in order to support the multifaceted water uses and functions, hence to underscore the modalities for efficient water utilization. The magnitude of storm rainfall acts as a primary input for basin level runoff computation. The rainfall-runoff linkage plays a pivotal role in water resource system management and feasibility level planning for resource distribution. Considering this importance, a case study has been carried out in the Hancheon basin of Jeju Island where distinctive hydrological characteristics are investigated for continuous storm rainfall and high permeable geological features. The study aims to estimate unit hydrograph parameters, peak runoff and peak time of storm rainfalls based on Clark unit hydrograph method. For analyzing observed runoff, five storm rainfall events were selected randomly from recent years' rainfall and HEC-hydrologic modeling system (HMS) model was used for rainfall-runoff data processing. The simulation results showed that the peak runoff varies from 164 to 548 m3/sec and peak time (onset) varies from 8 to 27 hours. A comprehensive relationship between Clark unit hydrograph parameters (time of concentration and storage coefficient) has also been derived in this study. The optimized values of the two parameters were verified by the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and runoff comparison performance were analyzed by root mean square error (RMSE) and Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) estimation. After statistical analysis of the Clark parameters significance level was found in 5% and runoff performances were found as 3.97 RMSE and 0.99 NSE, respectively. The calibration and validation results indicated strong coherence of unit hydrograph model responses to the actual situation of historical storm runoff events.

A concrete carbonation model has been constructed that takes account of the diffusion of carbon dioxide through a coating and reaction with calcium hydroxide, and this model has been validated by an accelerated carbonation experiment. (1) By using values for the coatings calculated on the basis of a diffusion.permeation theory as input data for the analysis of diffusion.reaction carbonation in an unsteady state, the effect of the coatings in reducing carbonation can be represented with high accuracy. (2) Through a sensitivity analysis of the diffusion.reaction carbonation model and the experimental results, we found that the diffusion coefficient of calcium hydroxide shows a high interrelationship at 1e-12($m^2/s$). The reaction rate constant for carbonation shows a high interrelationship at 5e-5($m^3/mol/s$).
Mononobe-Okabe method is generally used to evaluate dynamic earth pressure for the seismic design of retaining walls. However, Mononobe-Okabe method does not consider the effects of dynamic interactions between backfill soil and walls. In this research, shaking table tests on retaining walls were performed to analyze the phase and magnitude of dynamic earth pressure. The unit weight of walls, the amplitude of input acceleration and the base friction coefficient of walls were varied to analyze the influence of these factors on the dynamic earth pressure. Test results showed that the dynamic earth pressure was 180 degrees out of phase with the wall inertia force for the low sliding velocity of the wall, whereas small peaks of the dynamic earth pressure, which are in phase with the wall inertia force, were developed for the high sliding velocity of the wall. The amplitude of dynamic earth pressure was proportional to that of wall acceleration and the unit weight of the wall. In addition, the dynamic earth forces calculated by the Mononobe-Okabe method were the upper limit of the dynamic earth pressures.

In the mechanistic-empirical trackbed design of railways, the resilient modulus is the key input parameter. This study focused on the resilient modulus prediction model, which is the functions of mean effective principal stress and axial strain, for three types of railroad trackbed materials such as crushed stone, weathered soil, and crushed-rock soil mixture. The model is composed with the maximum Young's modulus and nonlinear values for higher strain in parallel with dynamic shear modulus. The maximum values is modeled by model parameters, $A_E$ and the power of mean effective principal stress, $n_E$. The nonlinear portion is represented by modified hyperbolic model, with the model parameters of reference strain, ${\varepsilon}_r$ and curvature coefficient, a. To assess the performance of the prediction models proposed herein, the elastic response of a test trackbed near PyeongTaek, Korea was evaluated using a 3-D nonlinear elastic computer program (GEOTRACK) and compared with measured elastic vertical displacement during the passages of freight and passenger trains. The material types of sub-ballasts are crushed stone and weathered granite soil, respectively. The calculated vertical displacements within the sub-ballasts are within the order of 0.6mm, and agree well with measured values with the reasonable margin. The prediction models are thus concluded to work properly in the preliminary investigation.

In this paper, we propose a new multiplication algorithm for primitive polynomial with all 1 of coefficient in case that m is odd and even on finite fields $GF(3^m)$, and compose the multiplier with parallel input-output module structure using the presented multiplication algorithm. The proposed multiplier is designed $(m+1)^2$ same basic cells that have a mod(3) addition gate and a mod(3) multiplication gate. Since the basic cells have no a latch circuit, the multiplicative circuit is very simple and is short the delay time $T_A+T_X$ per cell unit. The proposed multiplier is easy to extend the circuit with large m having regularity and modularity by cell array, and is suitable to the implementation of VLSI circuit.

In this paper, a wideband loop antenna for UWB applications is studied. The structure of the proposed wideband loop antenna is a circular loop antenna with appended circular sectors to obtain an ultra-wideband characteristic. The circular sectors are used instead of conventional triangular sectors to match with the 50 ohm feed line. Optimal design parameters are obtained by analyzing the effects of the gap between the circular sectors and the radius of the circular loop on the input reflection coefficient and gain characteristics. The optimized wideband loop antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 41 mm by 41 mm. Experiment results show that the proposed antenna has a frequency band of 3.1-11.0 GHz for a VSWR < 2.25, which assures the operation in the UWB band. Measured gain ranges 1.3-5.3 dBi in the UWB band.

In this work, we demonstrated a 77 GHz waveguide VCO with transition from WR-12 to WR-10 for anti-collision radar applications. The fabricated waveguide VCO consists of a GaAs-based Gunn diode, a varactor diode, a waveguide transition, and two bias posts for operating as a LPF and a resonator. The cavity is designed for fundamental mode at 38.5 GHz and operated at second hormonic of 77 GHz. The waveguide transition has a 1.86 dB of insertion loss and -30.22 dB of S11 at the center frequency of 77 GHz. The fabricated VCO achieves an oscillation bandwidth of 870 MHz. Output power is from 12.0 to 13.75 dBm and phase noise is -100.78 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency from the carrier.
Adaptive digital filters with long impulse response such as acoustic echo canceller and active noise controller suffer from slow convergence and computational burden. Subband techniques and multirate signal processing have been recently developed to improve the problem of computational complexity and slow convergence in conventional adaptive filter. Any FIR transfer function can be realized as a serial connection of interpolators followed by subfilters with a sparse impulse response. In this case, each interpolator which is related to the column vector of Hadamard matrix has band-pass magnitude response characteristics shifted uniformly. Subband technique using Hadamard transform and decimation of subband signal to reduce sampling rate are adapted to system modeling and acoustic noise cancellation In this paper, delayless subband structure with nonuniform bandwidth has been proposed to improve the performance of the convergence speed without aliasing due to decimation, where input signal is split into subband one using tree-structured filter bank, and the subband signal is decimated by a decimator to reduce the sampling rate in each channel, then subfilter with sparse impulse response is transformed to full band adaptive filter coefficient using Hadamard transform. It is shown by computer simulations that the proposed method can be adapted to general adaptive filtering.
