A Novel Route to New Bis(benzopyrano) Fused Dihydropyridines Using Dry Media

  • A new and efficient synthesis of the novel bioactive bis(benzopyrano) fused dihydropyridines is described. The conventionally developed route is a two step multicomponent condensation reaction. This is latter modified by a one pot microwave (MW) assisted reaction using inorganic solid support via the arylidene derivative intermediate. With this environmentally benign approach, the reaction time is brought down from hours to minutes along with a yield enhancement. Furthermore, the role of different solid supports is studied and it is concluded that the acidic alumina is the best solid support for the present investigation.

  • Six new binuclear copper(II) complexes have been prepared by template condensation of the dialdehydes 1,8-[bis(3-formyl-2-hydroxy-5-methyl)benzyl]-l,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (PC-a) and 1,8-[bis(3-formyl-2-hydroxy-5-bromo)benzyl]-l,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (PC-b) with appropriate aliphatic diamines, and copper(II) perchlorate. The structural features of the complexes have been confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis and mass spectra etc. The electrochemical behavior of all the copper(II) complexes show two irreversible one electron reduction process. The room temperature magnetic moment studies depict the presence of an antiferromagnetic interaction in the binuclear complexes. The catechol oxidation and hydrolysis of 4-nitrophenylphosphate were carried out by using the complexes as catalyst. The antimicrobial screening data show good results. The binding of the complexes to calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) has been investigated with absorption and emission spectroscopy. The complex [$Cu_2L^{1a}$] displays significant cleavage property of circular plasmid pBR322 DNA in to linear form. Spectral, electrochemical, magnetic and catalytic studies support the distortion of the copper ion geometry that arises as the macrocyclic ring size increases.

카올린으로부터 촉매담체용 감마알루미나 분말의 합성 (Synthesis of Gamma Aluina Powder for Catalytic Support from Kaolin)

  • 카올린에서 추출된 황산알루미늄 용액으로부터 촉매담체용 r-AI2O3분말 합성에 대하여 연구하였다. 황산알루미늄 용액을 교반중의 에탄올(ethanol)에 적하하여 단일상(single phase)의 AI2(So4)3 18H2O석출물을 제조하고 이 석출물의 하소로부터 r-AI2O3분말을 합성하였다. 이 분말을 100$0^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 하소하였을 때 열적안정성을 보였으나, 120$0^{\circ}C$-2시간 하소에서 $\alpha$-AI2O3 로 전이하였다. r-AI2O3의 열적안정성에 미치는 BaO 첨가의 영향을 조사 연구하였다. 첨가량은 r-AI2O3에 대해서 1.0-6.0wt%로 하였다. BaO를 4.0wt%첨가한 시료는 AI2O3-BaO.6AI2O3(hexa-aluminate)혼합상생성으로 인하여 120$0^{\circ}C$에서 r-AI2O3의 전이를 방지하는데 효과적이었다. BaO를 4.0wt%첨가한 시료와 BaO를 첨가하지 않은 시료에 대하여 r-AI2O3$\longrightarrow$ $\alpha$-AI2O3전이에 따른 비표면적을 조사하여 보았다. 120$0^{\circ}C$-2시간에서 BaO 4.0wt% 첨가한 시료와 BaO를 첨가하지 않은 시료의 비표면적은 각각 95$m^2$/g과 50$m^2$/g을 유지하였다.

미세기공을 가지는 철이 첨가된 티타니아 복합여과막 제조 및 미세구조 (Fabrication and microstructure of the Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ composite membranes with ultrafine pores)

  • 알파 알루미나와 철이 첨가된 티타니아 최종층으로 구성된 세라믹 여과막을 졸-겔방법으로 제조하였다. 철이 첨가된 지지 티타니아 복합여과막은 지지체를 혼합졸에 침지하여 제조하였다. 복합여과막을 $550^{\circ}C$에서 $850^{\circ}C$까지 열처리온도에 따르는 미세구조 변화를 주사전자현미경으로 조사하였다. $650^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 소결한 경우, 철이 첨기된 티타니아 복합여과막의 평균입자 크기는 약 40 nm이었다. 철이 첨가된 티나니아 복합여과막은 티타니아 복합여과막보다 열적 저항성이 우수하였다. 철이 첨가된 티타니아 복합여과막은 $650^{\circ}C$까지 균열이 없는 미세구조와 좁은 입도분포를 유지하였다.

폐수 재이용을 위한 무기계 광촉매 담체 연구 (Study of Inorganic Photocatalyst Media for Reused Wastewater)

  • This study focused on effective decomposition methods for low concentrated organic compounds from the reuse of industrial wastewater, and confirmed the possibility through photocatalyst media. Photocatalyst immobilized media was developed to carry on this experiment which confirmed the removal possibility of low concentrated organic compounds. Considering the stability and efficiency of photocatalyst immobilization, inorganic support, hollow bead, and $TiO_2$ nano powder were used. As a result of the removal experiment, the removal efficiencies of acetonitrile, ethanol, IPA(Isopropyl alcohol), methanol were above 75% after 15 minutes while those of acetone, acetaldehyde, urea were 10%, 45%, 20%, respectively after 60 minutes. If further studies were made to increase the surface area of the photocatalyst immobilized media, the efficiency of the removal of low concentrated organic compounds can be improved and this solution can also be used in an actual treatment process.

셀레늄의 동물체내 대사 및 이용에 관한 고찰 (Review for Selenium Metabolism and Its Bioavailability in the Animal)

  • Se is essential for a number of enzymes that perform important metabolic functions necessary for good health. However, people in many countries do not appear to consume adequate amounts of Se to support the maximal expression of the selenoproteins and Se retention in the body of animals and humans is dependent on the ingested Se source such as organic and inorganic Se. Therefore, this review was discussed to explore metabolic characterization regarding intestinal absorption, bioavailability and selenoprotein synthesis according to animal species such as monogastrics including human beings and ruminants. Generally, organic Se provided to animals is more effective than inorganic Se in body retention for the animal owing to the difference of manner for intestinal absorption. But, Se absorption in ruminants depending on its chemical form still remained questioned by several microbial actions and feeding regimen in the rumen. And Se absorbed through small intestine is utilized for the synthesis of selenoproteins and/or retained as selenoamino acids in the body. Retained Se in the body may be recycled to synthesize selenoproteins as lacked of dietary Se. In conclusion, desirable forms of Se ingestion in the animal may be useful for Se fortification in animal products as well as well being for humans and animals.

Simultaneous Biofiltration of H2S, NH3 and Toluene using an Inorganic/Polymeric Composite Carrier

  • Simultaneous removal of ternary gases of $NH_3$, $H_2S$ and toluene in a contaminated air stream was investigated over 180 days in a biofilter. A commercially available inorganic/polymeric composite chip with a large void volume (bed porosity > 0.80) was used as a microbial support. Multiple microorganisms including Nitrosomonas and Nitrobactor for nitrogen removal, Thiobacillus thioparus (ATCC 23645) for $H_2S$ removal and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 15692), Pseudomonas putida (ATCC 17484) and Pseudomonas putida (ATCC 23973) for toluene removal were used simultaneously. The empty bed residence time (EBRT) ranged from 60 - 120 seconds and the inlet feed concentration was $0.0325\;g/m^3-0.0651\;g/m^3$ for $NH_3$, $0.0636\;g/m^3-0.141\;g/m^3$ for $H_2S$, and $0.0918\;g/m^3-0.383\;g/m^3$ for toluene, respectively. The observed removal efficiency was 2% - 98% for $NH_3$, 2% - 100% for $H^2S$, and 2% - 80% for toluene, respectively. Maximum elimination capacity was about $2.7\;g/m^3$/hr for $NH_3$, > $6.4\;g/m^3$/hr for $H_2S$ and $4.0\;g/m^3$/hr for toluene, respectively. The inorganic/polymeric composite carrier required 40 - 80 days of wetting time for biofilm formation due to the hydrophobic nature of the carrier. Once the surface of the carrier was completely wetted, the microbial activity became stable. During the long-term operation, pressure drop was negligible because the void volume of the carrier was two times higher than the conventional packing materials.

알칼리 수전해 적용을 위한 하이브리드 다공성 격리막 제조 및 특성평가 (Preparation and Evaluation of Hybrid Porous Membrane for the Application of Alkaline Water Electrolysis)

  • 본 연구에서는 낮은 막 저항을 가지는 알칼리 수전해 시스템 적용을 위한 격리막 제조를 위하여 PPS (Polyphenylene sulfide)를 지지체로 사용하고 Polysulfone과 무기물 첨가제를 이용하여 격리막을 제조한 뒤, 지지체의 두께와 다공도에 대한 영향을 분석하였다. 지지체로 사용된 PPS 펠트를 온도(100℃, 150℃, 200℃)와 압력(1톤, 2톤, 3톤, 5톤)의 변수를 두어 압축을 진행하여 두께를 조절하고자 하였으며, 무기입자로서 친수성이 높고 내알칼리성이 뛰어난 BaTiO3와 ZrO2를 사용하여 polysulfone과 함께 슬러리를 제조하고 압축한 PPS 펠트 위에 캐스팅하여 다공성 격리막을 제조할 수 있었다. 전자주사현미경(SEM)을 통해 압축 조건에 따른 분리막의 모폴로지 변화를 확인하고, 기공도를 계산하였으며, 압축 조건이 증가할수록 두께와 기공도가 감소하는 경향을 확인하였다. 수전해용 격리막으로서 사용이 가능한지를 확인하기 위하여 다양한 특성 평가를 진행하였다. 기계적강도를 측정한 결과 압축 조건(온도와 압력)이 증가할수록 인장강도가 점차 증가하는 경향을 확인하였다. 최종적으로 내알칼리성 테스트를 통하여 제조한 다공성 격리막이 우수한 내알칼리성을 가지는 것을 확인하였고, I-V 테스트를 통하여 100℃와 150℃ 조건에서 압축된 막들이 기존의 압축하지 않은 막보다 낮은 전압을 가지며 성능이 향상되었다는 것을 확인하였다.

  • Catalytic combustion is one of the suitable methods for micro power source due to high energy density and no flame quenching. Catalyst loading in the micro structured combustion chamber is one of the most important issues in the development of micro catalytic combustors. In this research, to coat catalyst on the chamber wall, two methods were investigated. First, $Al_2O_3$ was selected as a support of Pt and $Pt/Al_2O_3$ was synthesized through the alumina sol-gel procedure. To improve the coating thickness and adhesion between catalyst and substrate, heat resistant and water solvable organic-inorganic hybrid binder was used. Porous silicon was also investigated as a catalyst support for platinum. Through the parametric studies of current density and etching time, fabrication process of $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$ of diameter and about $25{\mu}m$ depth pores was confirmed. Coated substrates were test in the micro channel combustor which was fabricated by the wet etching and machining of SUS 304. Using $Pt/Al_2O_3$ coated substrate and Pt coated porous silicon substrate, conversion rate of fuel was over 95% for $H_2$/Air premixed gas.
