A Study on the Development of the Korean Internet Banks (한국 인터넷은행의 발전 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Korea came to see its first internet bank as 'K bank' obtained the digital-only banking license in December 2016. This paper suggests ways to foster internet banks of Korea in their early stage by analyzing the successful cases of overseas internet banks. The followings are the key success factors identified from those cases across Europe, Japan, China, and USA: Support from the related government authorities; Stable governance structure; Distinct business capabilities based on information & communications technology(ICT). These points lead to the following implications for Korean internet banks. Regulatory restrictions on owning and running internet banks should be lifted to facilitate innovation. Policies to support internet bank industry should be introduced as it is a vital part of the 4th industrial revolution. Finally, internet banks should strive to differentiate themselves by utilizing their ICT capabilities. Subjects of the further research hereafter should include the following: Analyzing the ongoing performance and developments of digital banks in Korea; Deriving success factors from the analysis; Assessing the influence and effects on financial market and economic environment.

An Empirical Study on the Determinants of Internet Banking Adoption (인터넷뱅킹 채택 결정요인에 관한 실증연구)

  • The importance of Internet banking has been emphasized due to the spread of Internet and the potential advantages of Internet banking. In case of Korea, Internet banking users have been risen dramatically since 1999 after its introduction. The purpose of this study is to draw the antecedent variables that affect the adoption of Internet banking and show their effects empirically. In this paper, influencing factors are proposed to distinguishing Internet banking users from non-users. And nine hypotheses are empirically tested using logistic regression. The results show that most of hypotheses are supported except for complexity and IT innovativeness. And compatibility was found to have a strong positive effect on the adoption of Internet banking. Implications of these findings are discussed for researchers and practitioners.

  • Tencent is an internet-based entertainment platform corporation using technology to enrich the lives of Tencent platform users and assist the contents expansion. Since 2000, Tencent have developed a great growth and innovation in entertainment contents domain. Tencent have become the market leading innovator due to the imitative innovation and M&A. The present study designed case study analyses to investigate the mechanism with regard to the growth strategy of Tencent corporation. Tencent began with imitative internet-based game and social messaging services but then added its own wechat messenger platform, now being extended to other products or services. This imitative innovation strategy enabled Tencent corporation to grow rapidly, to achieve outstanding growth. In addition, Tencent's M&A investment drive is underpinned by a vision of top management team and flexible organizational culture, from building out the Tencent's entertainment platform, game, finance, e-commerce, to global market expansion. While our results shed light on the implications to understanding Tencent's growth, there are limitations of the current study that should be considered when designing next research.

The effect of experiential marketing factors of fashion service applying 4th industrial revolution technology on customer acceptance and use : focusing on 3D printing, internet of things, and innovation (4차 산업 기술 패션 서비스 체험마케팅 요인이 소비자 수용과 이용에 미치는 영향 : 3D프린팅, 사물인터넷, 혁신성을 중심으로)

  • This study analyzed the influence of experiential marketing factors of 3D printing and Internet services on technology acceptance factors and usage intention. Furthermore, we analyzed how the user's innovativeness shows the effect on the intention to use. Data acquired from a total of 518 college students was used for the final analysis, which was perfromed by SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 23.0 programs. The results of this study are as follows. We analyzed the influence of the experiential marketing factors of fashion service utilizing the 3D printing and the Internet of Things on the acceptance of technology and intention to use these technologies. As for 3D printing, first, sensory and behavioral factors are positively related to the acceptance of technology. Second, emotional and cognitive factors have negative effects on all technology acceptance. Third, relational factors did not show a significant influence on several conditions of technology acceptance. Fourth, the effects of technology acceptance on the willingness to use have a positive effect on several conditions factors, except the effort expectation. As for the result concerning the Internet of Things first, behavioral factors have a positive effect on all technology acceptance. Second, emotional factors have a negative effect on all technology acceptance. Third, cognitive factors did not have a significant effect on various conditions and showed negative effects on several factors. Fourth, sensory and relational factors did not affect the acceptance of technology. Fifth, the effects of technology acceptance on the intention to use are affected by several conditions, except for effort expectation. As a result of analyzing the moderating effects of user's innovativeness on the willingness to use, 3D printing did not show any significant effect on innovation. However, the Internet of Things has a significant influence on the user acceptance of technology acceptance.

  • Technology standard continues to exist as an social agreement throughout all industry. With development of Information and Communication, it is recently considered as a strategic factor for enhancing interoperability and increasing market dominance. Hence, technology standard research(standardization research) have a significance in analyzing the process of standard adoption and its economic effect and deriving theoretical and policy implications. However, as existing relative researches are lack in consideration on indigenous value of technology and its interoperability, there exists limitation in drawing the result of technology centered analysis. The goal of this study is to suggest new technology centered standard method by implying function of technology differentiation rate and technology preference that are deduced by technology network analysis into two stage game theory. As an example of empirical case, we selected wireless pan technology of Internet of Things, and derive its technological structure and implications related to standard.

Internet News Frame: A Study of News Coverage Trends in Longitudinal Internet Media Development (인터넷 뉴스프라임: 인터넷 미디어발달의 장기적인 뉴스보도 경향연구)

  • This research explores the empirical confirmation of the Internet development including from the period of innovation to the time of social-cultural use in today. The research focused on how tradition news media rover about the Internet developed from early to today, and understanding the media characteristics on the each stages from news frame. The research Is designed to conduit content analysis from 1989 to 2004, then this research is divided four(4) stages of the Internet development: innovation, diffusion, commercial usage, social-cultural usage. The results shows that there are significant different coverage by the stages. First of all, the news coverage pattern shift from technology focused on early stages to social usage focused on the later stages. This research confirms that the ratio of the seriation(technology) coverage defined when social usage is increased, on the other hand skeumorphs(social usage and content) coverage is increased in the commercial and social usage stages. This coverage pattern among news media does not such a big different and there is no competitive coverage. Moreover, the news coverage shifted from thematic coverage on early stages to episodic coverage while the number of usage increasing. In addition, the tone of coverage has not been changed significantly.

  • In emerging technologies, innovation processes are dynamic in that the government needs to regularly review its policies to resonate with rapid technological advancements, changing public needs, and evolving global trends. In the 1990s, the Internet grew at an explosive rate, but many applications were constrained due to security concerns. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) seemed to be the fundamental technology to address these concerns by providing security functions. As of 2017, PKI is still one of the best technologies for electronic authentication in an open network, but it is used only in limited areas: for user authentications in closed networks and for server authentications within network security infrastructure like SSL/TLS. The difference between expectation and reality of PKI usage is due to the evolution of the Internet along with the global adoption of new authentication policies under the Internet governance in the early 2000s. The new Internet governance based on the cooperation between multi-stakeholders is changing the way in which a government should act with regard to its technological policies. This paper analyzes different PKI policy approaches in the United States and Korea from the perspective of path-dependence theory. Their different policy results show evidence of the rise of the Internet governance, and may have important implications for policy-makers in the current global Internet society.

  • This study aims to investigate the impact of wide use of digital technology, in particular, the Internet, on innovation process and corporate strategy in electronics industry. The introduction of digital technology has changed innovation process, business model and organizational structure of the electronics companies. With the introduction of digital technology, the entire value chain of electronics industry from procurement, sales, and marketing to R&D and manufacturing has been restructured. E-commerce has been a major agenda for e-business. Recently, collaboration among electronics companies through e-marketplace has emerged as an important issue. A web-based e-commerce standard, so called RosettaNet, has been developed for facilitating e-transactions of electronics firms. The development of digital technology has dramatically increased the processing speed and sophisticated the virtual reality technology. As simulation becomes easier and more effective, the uncertainty and risk involved in R&D has decreased significantly. Another positive impact is closer cooperation between R&D and manufacturing functions. Taking advantage of automated and flexible production technology, has a new type of firm, so called, EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) emerged, whose strategic focus is on manufacturing only. The EMS can be seen as a kind of innovative organization, that is, a modular organization for production function. Digital technology has made convergence of computer and communication possible at early years but right now the convergence has been accelerated in extensive areas of communication, broadcasting, information appliances, software, contents, and services. Firms' effort for an innovative product and service has been intensified and the competition for a new standard product and service has become severe in electronics industry. Business activities are always realized in a specific organizational context. Accordingly building up innovation-friendly organization has emerged as a critical concern. Due to the striking decrease of transaction cost, a network type of organization has proliferated, and a business function turns into a modular organization. As a whole, digital technology has pushed electronics firms into developing their own business model, which takes consideration of standardization of business platform and their core competency.

A Study on the Factors Affecting the Intention to Use the Virtual World Metaverse: An Innovation Diffusion Perspective (가상세계 메타버스 이용 의도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구: 혁신확산의 관점에서)

  • Metaverse is a three-dimensional virtual space where virtual and reality interact and co-evolutionize, and social, cultural, and economic activities are carried out in it to create value. Among the types of metaverse, the virtual world metaverse is expected to bring innovation beyond time and space in all areas of industry and society following the Internet. This study empirically analyzed factors affecting consumer's intention to use the virtual world metaverse by an innovation diffusion perspective. It was analyzed as an expanded technology acceptance model by setting relative advantages, ease of use, and visibility among the attributes of the innovation diffusion, and social presence, telepresence, and interactivity among the characteristics of the virtual worlds as factors. The proposed research model and hypothesis were verified through a PLS structural equation analysis based on a survey of 216 people. Studies have shown that relative advantage, telepresence, and interactivity have a significant effect on perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment, but visibility does not have a significant effect on perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment. It was found that ease of use had a positive effect on perceived enjoyment, social presence had a positive effect on perceived usefulness, and perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment had a positive effect on the intention to use, respectively. This study is meaningful in that it empirically analyzed the factors affecting the intention to use the virtual world metaverse by dividing the psychological characteristics that induce consumer behavior into perceived usefulness which is an extrinsic motivation and perceived enjoyment which is an intrinsic motivation.

Regional Innovation Systems of Oxford, UK: Their Origin and Key Actors (대학 중심 지역혁신의 기원과 주체: 영국 옥스퍼드지역을 사례로)

  • The Oxford area is one of the major innovative regions of the world. The innovative characteristics of the area, however, have not been well exposed to the academic communities of the world and Korea. In fact, the area was a base of breading the Cambridge area and has also been playing important roles in creating the major British high-technology region, called "Golden Triangle," composed of Oxford, Cambridge and London. This paper investigates the process of growing innovativeness of the Oxford area and sheds more lights on the birth, growth and key actors of the area's Regional Innovation Systems(RISs). For this research, the author reviewed the literature related to the RISs, and gathered data based on the Internet, statistical data sources, interviews with local scholars and practitioners.
