A Study on the Characteristics of Korean Global Hidden Champions : Focused on the Success Factors of Foreign Global Hidden Champions (국내 글로벌 강소기업들의 특성에 대한 연구 : 해외 히든 챔피언들의 성공요인을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this research is to explore the characteristics of Korean Global Hidden Champions focused on the success factors of foreign hidden champions. For this, we investigated the application process of these success factors of foreign hidden champions to Korean Global Hidden Champions and analyzed characteristics of Korean Global Hidden Champions with the cases of 11 companies. This research shows that there are the success factors of foreign hidden champions such as leadership and goals, self production, high-performance employees, market focus, continuous innovation, closeness to customer, globalization. This research also shows that there are some differences in the individual application process of success factors to each company. The Korean SME's trying to achieve the position of global hidden champions should know the success factors of foreign hidden champions clearly and investigate the application process of these success factors to Korean Global Hidden Champions carefully so that they may apply these lessons to their management processes and activities.

The Effects of Innovator's DNA on the Innovative Strategy in SMEs (중소기업 경영자의 혁신DNA와 혁신전략에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, there are increasing to the interest in the organizational innovation DNA as the innovation origin and these interest mainly were approached through the case analysis of global innovative companies. The purpose of study is to investigate the applicability under the CEO of SMEs settings as global companies' cases. The research focused on the impact of innovator's DNA on innovative strategy by the empirical study that analyzed from 110 firm's data in Daegu and Gyeongbuk region. The results of empirical study, innovator's DNA has positive effects on the overall innovative strategy, especially the effects of discovery DNA are stronger than operational DNA. Included to the discovery DNA effects, operational DNA bring about negative on the product differentiation, though it has positive on the market differentiation. In terms of components of innovator's DNA, the questioning and association have strong impacts on the overall innovative strategy, and analyzing has positive on market differentiation, but specific task implementation has negative on the product differentiation. The results suggest that the logic of global innovation case is possible to the SME's CEO and need to learning efforts to promote discovery DNA for successful innovation.

  • In this paper, we focus the changing role of universities of University-Industry Collaboration (UIC) for enriching the regional business ecosystem network. For this research, we analyze 'Regional Innovation System(RIS)' - a specific UIC program- which provides a marketing service for firms, especially, SMEs with a specific problem by a group of consultants including CEOs, professors, and heads of regional public or private service providers. Then we have analyzed using network analysis how the business network was changed from RIS. Moreover, we will interview the participants in the important position of the network and investigate the reason for bringing a change in the network structure by using this program. This study illustrates that various types of network are formed between university and SMEs. Furthermore, the networks surrounding SMEs are extended to the other people connected to them. This means that the business network of SMEs had been diversified via the facilitation of university. This study throws new highlights on the new role for the university as a network promoter in addition to the partner as a technology-provider in the regional business ecosystem. Moreover, the network analysis between before-and-after can be used for the evaluation of the effectiveness of the various UIC programs.

  • Lean six sigma has to be utilized considering irrational system or defects based on features of organization beforehand. Otherwise, it won't improve anything but burden another heavy responsibilities to the people in charge. Therefore, a survey was conducted in addition to a literature review and a case study about lean six sigma to verify effective deployment method for lean 6sigma tools. The survey was conducted across for 96 interviewees who have MBB or BB was selected from 15 companies which have been running six sigma projects over 10 years and SPSS 16.0 was used for verifying reliability and validity of the research. In conclusion, some issues occurred in the process of six sigma projects were identified and effective deployment method of lean six sigma tools by integrating lean manufacturing into 6sigma were suggested based on those issues.

  • The Korean government has selected job creation policy as first goal in order to overcome the recession and response of 4th industrial revolution. Technology based start up is worth noting in order to job creation. Because the ripple effect of technology based start up is higher than self-employment. Therefore, the government and the private sector conduct various policies and services for the vitalization of technology based start up. In order for technology based start up to be successful, it is necessary to maximize personal (founder) capacity. In this study, the correlation between "features of personal (motivation, capability, experience, entrepreneurship)", "competitiveness of company" and "corporate performance" was analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). Also, in this study analyzed the differences between 2 groups based on the career of CEO (work for government funded research institutes VS the others). This study can be utilized when policy making and practice about technology based start-up.

Entrepreneurial Orientation and Technology Commercialization of the Innovative Firms (혁신형 기업들의 기업가적 지향성과 기술사업화)

  • It is well known that entrepreneurial orientation of innovative enterprises influences in a positive way on the performance. As the culture of the organization is innovative and proactive, it can be more adaptive to the environment and more aggressive. According to the prior literature, however, there have been few researches on the effect of entrepreneurial orientation on the technology commercialization, which can be regarded as a precedent factor of the performance of the enterprise. This research aims to analyze the effect of entrepreneurial orientation on the technology commercialization. In addition, we examined if competitive intensity moderate the influence of entrepreneurial orientation on technology commercialization. The findings suggest that entrepreneurial orientation influence technology commercialization. However, the empirical evidence indicates that competitive intensity does not moderate the influence of the entrepreneurial orientation on technology commercialization. The results would be useful for academic and practitioners in understanding the entrepreneurship in the innovative enterprises. Several limitations of the research results were described and further research directions were suggested.

  • Due to the recent mid- to long-term slump and falling growth rates in the global economy, interest in organizational structures that create new products or services as a new alternative to survive and develop in an opaque environment both internally and externally, and enhance organizational sustainability through changes in production methods and business innovation is increasing day by day. In this atmosphere, we agree that the growth of small and medium-sized venture companies has a significant impact on the national economy, and various efforts are being made to enhance the technological innovation capabilities of the members so that these small and medium-sized venture companies can enhance and sustain their performance. The purpose of this study is also to investigate how the technological innovation capabilities of small and medium-sized venture companies correlate with the performance of knowledge management and to analyze the role of network capabilities to organize the strategic activities of enterprise to obtain the resources and organizational capabilities to be used for value creation from external networks. In other words, research was conducted on the impact of technological innovation capabilities of small and medium venture companies on knowledge management performance by using network capabilities as parameters. Therefore, in this study, we would like to verify the hypothesis that innovation capabilities will have a positive impact on knowledge management performance by using network capabilities of small and medium venture companies. Economic activities based on technological innovation capabilities should respond quickly to new changes in an environment where uncertainty has increased, and lead to macro-economic growth and development as well as overcoming long-term economic downturns so that they can become the nation's new growth engine as well as sustainable growth and survival of the organization. In addition, this study was conducted by setting the most important knowledge management performance within the organization as a dependent variable. As a result, R&D and learning capabilities among technological innovation capabilities have no impact on financial performance. In contrast, it was shown that corporate innovation activities have a positive impact on both financial and non-financial performance. The fact that non-financial factors such as quality and productivity improvement are identified in the management of small and medium-sized venture companies utilizing their technological innovation capabilities is contrary to a number of studies by those corporate innovation activities affect financial performance during prior research. The reason for this result is that research companies have been out of start-up companies for more than seven years, but sales are less than 10 billion won, and unlike start-up companies, R&D and learning capabilities have more positive effects on intangible non-financial performance than financial performance. Corporate innovation activities have been shown to have a positive (+) impact on both financial and non-financial performance, while R&D and learning capabilities have a positive (+) impact on financial performance by parameters of network capability. Corporate innovation activities have been shown to have no impact on both financial and non-financial performance, and R&D and learning capabilities have no impact on non-financial performance. It could be seen that the parameter effects of network competency are limited to when R&D and learning competencies are derived from quantitative financial performance. A Study on the Effect of Chinese University Students' Entrepreneurial Intention: Focused on the Mediating Effect of Entrepreneurial Attitude and Perceived Behavioral Control (중국 대학생들의 창업 의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 창업 태도와 인지된 행동 통제의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • While there have been many previous studies showing that an entrepreneur's personal characteristics have a significant impact on his intention to start a business, there was relatively little research on the inherent mechanisms for this. Recent researches show that entrepreneur's personal characteristics affect the entrepreneurial intention through entrepreneurial attitude and perceived behavioral control, rather than directly. This study carried out empirical research on 233 Chinese university students on what personal characteristics affect the entrepreneurial intention of Chinese university students, who are actively engaged in start-up activities recently. Based on the theory of planned behavior, we set entrepreneurial attitude and perceived behavioral control as important variables that shape the entrepreneurial intention and formed a model and hypotheses that personal characteristics of a potential entrepreneur(leadership, planning, innovation, sociality) affect the entrepreneurial intention through these two variables. We verified these hypotheses by regression analysis and structural equation model. The analysis confirmed that for Chinese university students the entrepreneurial attitude and perceived behavioral control were important antecedent variables that shape the entrepreneurial intention. It was also shown that leadership and innovation have a positive influence on the entrepreneurial attitude, while leadership and planning raise the level of perceived behavioral control. As a result, leadership forms the entrepreneurial intention through the entrepreneurial attitude and perceived behavior control, and innovation affects the entrepreneurial intention through the entrepreneurial attitude, while planning affects the entrepreneurial intention through perceived behavior control. Therefore, entrepreneurship education that emphasizes leadership, innovation and planning is required for Chinese college students as a potential entrepreneur. These three factors could also be important personal characteristics when choosing a potential entrepreneur.

GenAI(Generative Artificial Intelligence) Technology Trend Analysis Using Bigkinds: ChatGPT Emergence and Startup Impact Assessment (빅카인즈를 활용한 GenAI(생성형 인공지능) 기술 동향 분석: ChatGPT 등장과 스타트업 영향 평가)

  • In the field of technology entrepreneurship and startups, the development of Artificial Intelligence(AI) has emerged as a key topic for business model innovation. As a result, venture firms are making various efforts centered on AI to secure competitiveness(Kim & Geum, 2023). The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the development of GenAI technology and the startup ecosystem by analyzing domestic news articles to identify trends in the technology startup field. Using BIG Kinds, this study examined the changes in GenAI-related news articles, major issues, and trends in Korean news articles from 1990 to August 10, 2023, focusing on the emergence of ChatGPT before and after, and visualized the relevance through network analysis and keyword visualization. The results of the study showed that the mention of GenAI gradually increased in the articles from 2017 to 2023. In particular, OpenAI's ChatGPT service based on GPT-3.5 was highlighted as a major issue, indicating the popularization of language model-based GenAI technologies such as OpenAI's DALL-E, Google's MusicLM, and VoyagerX's Vrew. This proves the usefulness of GenAI in various fields, and since the launch of ChatGPT, Korean companies have been actively developing Korean language models. Startups such as Ritten Technologies are also utilizing GenAI to expand their scope in the technology startup field. This study confirms the connection between GenAI technology and startup entrepreneurship activities, which suggests that it can support the construction of innovative business strategies, and is expected to continue to shape the development of GenAI technology and the growth of the startup ecosystem. Further research is needed to explore international trends, the utilization of various analysis methods, and the possibility of applying GenAI in the real world. These efforts are expected to contribute to the development of GenAI technology and the growth of the startup ecosystem.

The Effect of Government's Fairness as the Entrepreneur's Satisfactions & Managerial Performance: Focusing on the Differences between Start-up Companies' Growth Stage (정부의 창업지원 공정성이 만족도 및 경영성과에 미치는 영향: 창업기업의 성장단계별 차이를 중심으로)

  • This study examines how the government's fairness in entrepreneurship support affects satisfaction and management performance, and examines whether these influences are different for each growth stage of start-up companies. For this study, data were collected for start-up companies that received government support for start-up within the past 5 years. Total 611 copies of the data were used in this study. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS. The fairness used in this study was divided into three types, procedural fairness, interactive fairness, and distributed fairness. The effect of the three fairness on the satisfaction of start-up support project was analyzed. In addition, the effect of business support satisfaction on business performance was analyzed, where the business performance was evaluated by the questioner's satisfaction with their business. The start-up phase was divided into the start phase, early growth phase, stagnant phase, and high-level growth phase, and the moderating effect between the fairness and satisfaction of the government-supported projects by start-up phase was analyzed. As a result, it was found that every concept of fairness had a positive (+) effect on the satisfaction of the entrepreneurship support project, and the satisfaction of the entrepreneurship support project had a positive (+) effect on the management performance. The concept of procedural fairness in the start phase, procedural fairness in the early growth phase, interactive fairness, and the concept of all fairness in the stagnant phase influenced the satisfaction of the start-up support project. In this study, the fairness and effect of government-supported projects affecting the management performance of start-ups were identified by growth phase of start-ups. The results of these studies will help build a systematic system for entrepreneurship support and for start-ups, it will also greatly contribute to finding differentiated growth plans by growth stages of start-up companies.
