The Korean government has focused on universities or colleges as the main targets of its startup policy since the 2010s. However, the performance is not so good, with a low survival rate. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that underpin the success of student startups. First, through a review of the literature, this study compared the success factors of student startups with those of venture startups, which means the general startup sector, as well as youth startups, also a focus of startup policy targeting youngsters outside universities or colleges. Second, we analyzed case studies of startup companies connected University H. The literature review showed that the main target of student startups is the employment of university students. There is a lack of studies on success factors; existing studies only emphasize the entrepreneurship of students. The results of case studies showed several factors of success similar to those of general venture startups: founders, business model and resources including team, and mentoring.
Purpose: The current study focused on developing Klong Kone Shrimp Paste (Mesopodopsis) products and packaging, aiming to enhance the capabilities of entrepreneurs with cultural capital in post-pandemic Samut Songkhram Province. Research design, data and methodology: This study sought to analyze product and packaging issues and examine packaging expectations for Klong Kone shrimp paste. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods was used, including a questionnaire administered to a sample of 400 individuals who purchased community enterprise products. Descriptive analysis, involving percentage, mean, and S.D., along with qualitative analysis through phenomenological methods, such as in-depth interviews and focus groups, were conducted with community enterprise entrepreneurs, experts, and customers. Results: The findings indicate that addressing product conditions and packaging issues with Klong Kone shrimp paste can be achieved by incorporating an attached label on the community product packaging. Conclusion: This approach is necessary due to the lack of community identity reflection and unattractive design, which currently deter customers from considering the products as souvenirs. Additionally, diversifying product offerings is recommended to better align with consumer needs. In terms of packaging expectations, a majority of respondents expressed a strong preference for an attractive appearance.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) endeavor to overcome the adverse resource conditions and secure competitive advantage through technological innovation capability. Prior studies have focused on the overall or specific dimensions of technological innovation capability, and examined their performance impact. However, there has been less scholarly attention on the dynamic characteristics such as the relative importance of technological innovation capability or its performance impact at the different growth stages of a firm. In this vein, this study investigates the relationship between SME innovation capability and innovation performance at each growth stages of a firm. Based on the empirical analysis of manufacturing SMEs in Korea, we found that all dimensions of technological innovation capability had positive effects on innovation performance. However, each dimension of technological innovation capability had different effect on innovation performance by the growth stages. The planning capability can improve innovation performance at the growth and maturity stages. Manufacturing capability can have positive effect on innovation performance at the maturity stage. Both of new product development capability and commercialization capability contribute to innovation performance at all of the growth stages. This study suggests the guidelines for enhancing technological innovation capability at the different growth stages of SMEs. It also provides policy implications for the design and operation of growth-stage specific programs. Finally, the limitations of the research and future research directions are presented.

First, the technological learning of the satellite industry follows the stage of technological acquisition, absorption, improvement and is embodied by the technological capability. Second, accumulated technological capability of the satellite industry influences the technology innovation. Third, the top management team(TMT) affects the technological learning and technological capability. Fourth, TMT has a moderating role between the technological capability and the performance of technological innovation. Finally, technological innovations in the small and venture business would be the source of technological capability and technological learning. The implications of this study are as follows. TMT has the very important role for the technological innovation and affect the technology development and the production. Also technology-based companies must gain a competitiveness advantage through technological learning and technological innovations for sustainable growth.
This paper aims at discussing the evolution of innovation theory from the beginning of the last century to present. Innovation theory has begun by Joseph Schumpeter in the beginning of the last century and his theory had not attained much attention compared to the mainstream economic theory. In the 1960s, some neo-classical economists analyzed the effect of technological change on economic growth and emphasized the role of demand in innovation process. However, in the beginning of the 1970s, Schumpeter's innovation theory, which emphasized the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in economic and social development, attained enormous attention by many liberal economists. They were called neo-Schumpeterians as they followed the theories and ideas of Schumpeter. In the middle of the 1980s, neo-Schumpeterians identified the concept of national innovation system(NIS), which is the total mobilization system of innovation resources for generating, appropriating and diffusing technological innovations. Soon this theory diffused very quickly at regional and sectoral level. As a result, there have been very active empirical studies on innovation systems in the world. Since the beginning of the 2000s the transition study have been actively carried out mainly in European countries. This study emphasizes the transition of existing innovation systems into more sustainable ones. In Korea we need to activate transition study, because there have been only few studies in this new theory.

The policy of promoting innovation clusters aims to enhance the competitiveness of industries by strengthening the linkages between industry sectors and research sectors in specific regions. In Korea, after the concept of innovation clusters was introduced by the OECD in 1997, Korean government actively pursued policies based on this concept in the fields of industry, region, and science and technology. Previous policies and research on the activation of innovation clusters have tended to focus on the exchange and collaboration among members. However, this study focused on enhancing the competitiveness of industries and regions, in other words, strengthening the competitiveness of companies, which is the fundamental reason for fostering innovative clusters. Accordingly, this study aimed to analyze the impact of factors activating innovation clusters on the business performance of SMEs located in the Daedeok Innopolis. To achieve this, based on the essential concept of innovation clusters such as industrial agglomeration factors, networking factors, innovation generation factors, the study derived factors for activating innovation clusters and verified hypotheses using the survey results of 175 companies. Among the factors activating innovation clusters, industrial agglomeration and innovation generation were found to have a positive impact on the business performance of companies. However, networking factors were analyzed to have no significant influence on the business performance of companies. This study differentiates itself by addressing the factors for activating innovation clusters through empirical analysis, unlike previous case-based studies. Furthermore, considering the difference between intuitive judgments on networking factors in innovation clusters and their actual impact on business performance, the study raised the practical significance of conducting a comprehensive examination from various perspectives, such as the socially and culturally embedded structures in the region, the characteristics of specialized industries, and the needs of cluster members, to develop more effective policies for innovation clusters.
Purpose: The companies must be located in the area, scale up, create jobs, and return to the local economy. This paper attempted to analyze empirically the relationship between regional context and entrepreneurial orientation(EO) in the region of Korea. Methods: This paper analyzed survey data and regional statistics. We measured EO by region and then examined which regional context affect EO. Regional contexts were measured by population, economic size, budget size, firm size, innovation capacity, and education level. EO was measured by innovativeness, risk taking, proactiveness, autonomy, competitive aggressiveness, and need for achievement. Results: EO was high in the region where the budget size per thousand population, the number of manufacturers per thousand population, the number of new corporations per thousand population, the number of R&D personnel per thousand population, and the number of students of higher education institutions per thousand population were high. Conclusion: The implications of this paper are that regional context affect EO, and there are differences in budget scale, firm size, innovation capacity, and education level. In regions with many investment resources for innovation and startups and manufacturers, the number of R&D personnel and students of higher education institutions (future R&D personnel), in particular, determines EO.
The key conditions for the promotion of innovative technology-based start-ups are expanding the market for innovative technology products and services, increasing equity-based funding opportunities, promoting the commercialization of technological innovation, and establishing a fair-trade system for start-ups to compete fairly in the market. Besides, there is a need for a support system that minimizes the cost of failure in case of business failure to facilitate re-challenge and provides education and training opportunities to enhance entrepreneurial capabilities. To activate technology-based start-ups, the Korean government introduced the TIPS policy in 2013. It is a program that creates technology start-up with private investment led by successful venture entrepreneurs, which has shown remarkable achievement and is regarded as the most successful policy in this field up to now. The most critical factor contributed to the success of this program is to invite private investors to select a technology entrepreneurship team and provide mentoring with the investment. The government provides R&D funding with matching investment, commercialization and marketing support to ensure that technology start-ups survive crossing the death-valley. Subsequent investments from domestic and abroad investors are actively made and it is becoming a representative technology-based start-up program in Korea.

Research has shown that alliances with external partners are valuable to foster internal R & D efforts. However, it is not well known how to take advantage of the potential benefits of strategic alliances to create innovative outcomes. This study examines the value of strategic alliances and analyzes the role of human capital in the impact of strategic alliances on innovation performance. This study focuses on whether the absorptive capacity of human capital affects firm innovation through interaction with strategic alliances. In the analysis using 2,205 Korean venture firm data, strategic alliances have a positive effect on innovation performance. However, the moderating role of human capital in the relationship between strategic alliances and innovation performance shows a significant negative impact. This implies that the ability to internalize knowledge and information acquired from external partners into the firm is important. This study provides valuable insights for managers who want to enhance the effectiveness of strategic alliances by considering the interaction of strategic alliances and human capital.
