특허권강화는 기술혁신에 대한 유효한 인센티브인가? EPO 특허자료를 중심으로 (Intellectural Property Rights and Innovation: Evidence from EPO Patenting Data)

  • Using panel data, this paper investigates the impacts of the strengthening of intellectual property rights (IPRs) on innovative activity. The estimation results indicate the following important implications. First, IPRs alone do not play a significant role. Second, the effect of IPRs is strong and significant only when it is interacted with complementary environments for innovation. This finding suggests that IPRs play a significant role only via a specific channel of interaction such as the stage of economic development, institutional environment and trade openness. Third, the significant correlation is not identical across countries implying that some countries were positively affected while others were negatively affected. Those countries are identified as well.

Intracellular Posttranslational Modification of Aspartyl Proteinase of Candida albicans and the Role of the Glycan Region of the Enzyme

  • Using two drugs, tunicamycin and brefeldin A, which affect protein processing, we investigated the intracellular processing mechanism of secreted aspartyl proteinase 1 (SAPl) of Candide albicans. Three intracellular forms of SAPI were detected by immunoblotting using menoclonal antibody (MAb) CAPl. Their molecular weights were approximately 40, 41 and 45 kDa, respectively. The 41 kDa protein is a glycoprotein and may be the same as the extracellular form judging by its molecular mass. The 40 kDa protein was the unglycosylated form and its molecular mass coincided with deglycosylated SAPl and the 45 kDa protein was also the unglycosylated form. Neither the 40 and 45 kDa proteins were detected in the culture supernatant of C. albicans. These suggested that the 40 and 45 kDa proteins might be intracellular precursor forms of SAPI. These results show that SAPI is translated as a 45 kDa precusor form in the endoplasmic reticulum and the 45 kDa precursor farm undergoes proteolytic cleavage after translocation into the Golgi apparatus, generating the 40 kDa precursor form. This 40 kDa precursor is converted into a 41 kDa mature form through glycosylation in the Golgi apparatus. The mature form of the 41 kDa protein is sorted into secretary vesicles and finally released into the extracellular space through membrane fusion. When the glycan region of SAPl was digested with N-glycosidase F, both stability and activity of the enzyme decreased. These results indicate that the glycan attached to the enzyme may, at least in parti be related to enzyme stability and activity.

Gynostemma pentaphyllum extract and its active component gypenoside L improve the exercise performance of treadmill-trained mice

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The effectiveness of natural compounds in improving athletic ability has attracted attention in both sports and research. Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Thunb.) leaves are used to make traditional herbal medicines in Asia. The active components of G. pentaphyllum, dammarane saponins, or gypenosides, possess a range of biological activities. On the other hand, the anti-fatigue effects from G. pentaphyllum extract (GPE) and its effective compound, gypenoside L (GL), remain to be determined. MATERIALS/METHODS: This study examined the effects of GPE on fatigue and exercise performance in ICR mice. GPE was administered orally to mice for 6 weeks, with or without treadmill training. The biochemical analysis in serum, glycogen content, mRNA, and protein expressions of the liver and muscle were analyzed. RESULTS: The ExGPE (exercise with 300 mg/kg body weight/day of GPE) mice decreased the fat mass percentage significantly compared to the ExC mice, while the ExGPE showed the greatest lean mass percentage compared to the ExC group. The administration of GPE improved the exercise endurance and capacity in treadmill-trained mice, increased glucose and triglycerides, and decreased the serum creatine kinase and lactate levels after intensive exercise. The muscle glycogen levels were higher in the ExGPE group than the ExC group. GPE increased the level of mitochondrial biogenesis by enhancing the phosphorylation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α) protein and the mRNA expression of nuclear respiratory factor 1, mitochondrial DNA, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-δ, superoxide dismutase 2, and by decreasing the lactate dehydrogenase B level in the soleus muscle (SOL). GPE also improved PGC-1α activation in the SOL significantly through AMPK/p38 phosphorylation. CONCLUSIONS: These results showed that GPE supplementation enhances exercise performance and has anti-fatigue activity. In addition, the underlying molecular mechanism was elucidated. Therefore, GPE is a promising candidate for developing functional foods and enhancing the exercise capacity and anti-fatigue activity.

  • Innovations significantly affect the efficiency of the socioeconomic systems of the regions, acting as a system-forming element of their development. Modern models of economic development also consider innovation activity, intellectual potential, knowledge as the basic factors for stimulating the economic growth of the region. The purpose of the study is to develop methodological foundations for evaluating the effectiveness of a regional innovation system based on a multidimensional analysis of its effects. To further study the effectiveness of RIS, we have used one of the methods of multidimensional statistical analysis - canonical analysis. The next approach allows adding another important requirement to the methodological provision of evaluation of the level of innovation development of industries and regions, namely - the time factor, the formalization of which is realized in autoregressive dynamic economic and mathematical models and can be used in our research. Multidimensional Statistical Analysis for RIS effectiveness estimation was used to model RIS by typological regression. Based on it, multiple regression models were built in groups of regions with low and relatively high innovation potential. To solve the methodological problem of RIS research, we can also use the approach to the system as a "box" with inputs and outputs.

해양심층수의 cytochrome P450 1A1, aromatase 및 MMP-9 활성 억제 효과 (Effect of Deep Sea Water on Cytochrome P450 1A1, Aromatase and MMP-9.)

  • 동해 해양심층수의 유방암예방 효능과 전이에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 cytochrome P450 1A1 활성과 aromatase 활성 및 유방암세포의 침윤성, 이와 관련된 MMP-9 의 활성과 그 단백질 발현에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 해양심층수는 체내외의 여러 화학물질을 체내에서 활성화시켜 발암이나 돌연변이 등을 유발시키는 것으로 알려진 cytochrome P450 1A1을 경도의존적으로 저해시켰다. 또한 호르몬 의존성 유방암의 진행에 관여하는 aromatase의 활성도 경도의존적으로 저해시켰다($5.6{\sim}51.9%$). 해양심층수 처리에 의해 사람유방암세포인 MDA-MB-231 세포의 침윤성은 $73.7{\sim}29.4%$로 감소하였으며, 세포의 침윤시 작용하는 단백질 분해 효소인 MMP-9의 활성과 단백질 발현도 경도의존적으로 억제되었다. 따라서 해양심층수는 유방암 예방과 전이관련의 더 많은 연구에 의해 유방암 예방과 전이 억제작용을 증명할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

노년기 부부의 사회활동 참여수준이 부부관계 만족도에 미치는 영향에 대한 우울감의 매개효과: APIMeM 모형을 활용하여 (The Mediation Effects of Depressive Symptoms on the Association between Social Activity Participation and Marital Satisfaction among Couples in Later Life: Using APIMeM Modeling)

  • This study aimed at examining the mediation effects of depressive symptoms on the association between social activity participation and marital satisfaction among couples in later life. The study included 1,196 married couples aged 65 or above who participated in the 7th Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging in 2018. The study variables were husbands' and wives' social activity participation, marital satisfaction, and depressive symptoms. Covariates were individual age, education level, subjective health, couples' household income, and number of children. The Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model (APIMeM) and bootstrapping techniques were used to test the significance of the mediating impacts of depressive symptoms based on the dyadic data structure. The results showed that for both husbands and wives, active participation in social activities had significant effects on increasing marital satisfaction through lowering depressive symptoms. However, only the participation of husbands in social activities was positively associated with their own marital satisfaction by reducing their own and their partner's depressive symptoms. These findings suggest that the active social participation of individuals salient for promoting the quality of marital relationships in later life, particularly for preventing their own and their spouse's depressive symptoms.

  • 본 연구는 한국기업의 혁신네트워크와 지식획득과정을 분석하고 이들의 공간적 차원을 이해하는데 그 목적이 있다. 혁신네트워크에서 하도급기업에게는 모기업이 중요하지만 일반 기업의 경우는 공급업체, 고객업체. 경쟁기업 등과의 교류가 상대적으로 중요하게 나타난다 그러나 앞으로 혁신네트워크는 정부출연연구소. 대학 등의 기관이 더욱 중요해지는 한편 해외기업과의 네트워크도 더욱 중시될 것으로 예상된다. 혁신과 관련하여 형식적 지식을 획득하는 것은 어느 정도 공간의 제약을 초월하여 이루어질 수 있지만, 암묵적 지식은 사내연구개발부서에서의 토론과 연구, CEO나 실무자의 개인적 네트워크, 공급업체와 고객업체와의 기업간 관계를 통해서 얻는 경우가 많아서 공간적 근접성이 중시된다. 전반적으로. 혁신네트워크는 수도권과 지방, 공단입지와 일반입지에 따라 상당한 차이를 보이고 있으며. 이는 앞으로 지역발전을 위한 지역산업혁신정책은 지역의 특성에 따라 달리 추진되어야 함을 나타낸다 마지막으로 본 연구결과를 토대로 몇 가지 정책적 시사점을 제시하였다.

IT분야 국가혁신시스템 네트워크 구조 분석 (Analysis on structure of National Innovation System in IT)

  • 본 논문은 우리나라의 정보통신 분야 국가혁신시스템의 혁신 요인간 상호작용 측면을 알아보기 위해 네트워크 관점에서 연구했다. 이를 위해 우리나라 정부가 지원하는 국가 R&D 과제 중 공동연구를 수행했던 기관들 간의 관계를 소셜네트워크분석법(Social Network Analysis)를 통해 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 우리나라 정보통신 분야 국가혁신시스템의 네트워크는 좁은세상 네트워크 유형인 것으로 나타났다. 이 결과를 통해 우리나라의 정보통신 분야 혁신 주체들은 매우 긴밀하게 지식 및 정보를 주고받는다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 기술혁신 네트워크 내의 혁신주체 중, 연구기관의 비중은 상대적으로 높았고, 기업의 비중은 상대적으로 낮아 우리나라 기술혁신 활동이 정부 주도형으로 이루어지고 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 향후 연구에서는 국가혁신시스템의 네트워크 구조가 혁신의 성공에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 연구할 필요가 있다.

프로세스 관점에서의 기술혁신 및 고용성과에 관한 연구 : 중소기업을 중심으로 (A Study on Technological Innovation and Employment Performance from the Perspective of Process : Focused on Small and Medium Sized Enterprises)

  • 기업들에 있어서 고용은 혁신활동의 결과를 바탕으로 하는 연속된 의사결정과정이다. 따라서 기술혁신을 통한 고용성과를 살펴봄에 있어서 이 같은 관계성을 명시적으로 분석에 고려할 필요가 있다. 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 중소기업의 기술혁신과 고용효과의 관계를 선행 연구와 같이 단일방정식을 추정하는 순위로짓(ordered logit) 모형으로 분석할 뿐 아니라, 연립방정식을 추정하는 외견무관회귀(SUR) 모형을 활용하여 실제 동시적으로 수행되어지는 기술경영 과정의 상관성을 반영하여 기업의 혁신활동과 기술혁신 성과, 보상제도 그리고 고용 창출의 구조적 관계를 분석하고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 보상제도의 시행은 기술개발 및 기술사업화 성과를 높이고, 이것은 다시 기업의 고용을 촉진하는 구조적 관계를 확인할 수 있었다. 특히 고용성과에 있어 기술개발 뿐 아니라 사업화 성과가 일종의 허들로 작용한다는 점에서 기술혁신을 프로세스 관점에서 관리할 때 기업의 고용성과는 높아진다고 볼 수 있겠다.

Graphene accelerates osteoblast attachment and biomineralization

  • In this paper, the in vitro biocompatibility of graphene film (GF) with osteoblasts was evaluated through cell adhesion, viability, alkaline phosphatase activity, F-actin and vinculin expressions, versus graphite paper as a reference material. The results showed that MG-63 cells exhibited stronger cell adhesion, better proliferation and viability on GF, and osteoblasts cultured on GF exhibited vinculin expression throughout the cell body. The rougher and wrinkled surface morphology, higher elastic modulus and easy out-of-plane deformation associated with GF were considered to promote cell adhesion. Also, the biomineralization of GF was assessed by soaking in simulated body fluid, and the GF exhibited enhanced mineralization ability in terms of mineral deposition, which almost pervaded the entire GF surface. Our results suggest that graphene promotes cell adhesion, activity and the formation of bone-like apatite. This research is expected to facilitate a better understanding of graphene-cell interactions and potential applications of graphene as a promising toughening nanofiller in bioceramics used in load-bearing implants.
