Transformation of Sectoral Innovation Pattern : Evidence from Korea

  • Purpose - This work tries to analyze the transformation of sectoral innovation pattern as time goes by to enhance the understanding on sectoral innovative activities, particularly considering the change of the nature of knowledge, and the trend of convergence. Research design, data, and methodology - This work tries to identify main factors, which determine the output of technological innovation through the econometric analysis, utilizing the result of Korean Innovation Survey and find a stylized fact on the change of the innovation pattern. Result - As a result of estimation, some major elements show different effects for two discrete years, 2002 and 2010; in chemical industry the open information source and neutral basic research become more important with the appropriation mechanism such as patents, and in machinery industry, the importance of internal information has been getting decreased with rising importance of customers. Conclusion - This work presents that some elements show different effects for two discrete years. Among three major elements, the source of information and appropriation mechanism shows different features for both industries. This means that we should explicit consider the changing nature of innovative environment, which leads to and heavily influence whether the innovative activity would be effective or not when we design innovation strategy and innovation policy.

Development of Creative Economy Innovation and Digital Entrepreneurial Ability for Distribution Strategy by using Design Thinking

  • Purpose: 1) develop a learning model involving design thinking to develop creative economy innovation and the characteristics of digital entrepreneurs. 2) evaluate the impact of design thinking on creative economy innovation 3) evaluate the impact of design thinking on digital entrepreneurial ability. Research design, data and methodology: 1) develop a learning model involving design thinking in order to develop creative economy innovation and the characteristics of digital entrepreneurs. 2) Evaluating creative economy innovation involving design thinking. 3) Assessing the characteristics of digital entrepreneurs based on design concepts. Results: 1) the development of a learning model involving design thinking to develop creative economy innovation and digital entrepreneurial competency 2) The students who studied using the learning model involving a design thinking process had the highest overall scores in terms of creative economy innovation 3) The scores for the assessment of digital entrepreneurial activity for the students who studied by using the design thinking learning model were at a high level. Conclusions: The development of the design thinking learning model can encourage students to be able to develop creative economy innovations and to empower digital entrepreneurs' ability for distribution strategy. Educational institutions that would like to succeed in developing creative economy innovative and digital entrepreneurship characteristics with the support of design thinking.

기술사업화 활동이 기업의 경영성과에 미치는 영향: 기업으로 이전된 공공연구기관의 기초·원천기술을 중심으로 (The Effects of Technology Commercialization Activities on the Business Performance: Case study of basic science and technology of public research institutes transferred to enterprises)

  • 국내에서는 주력 산업의 지속적인 경쟁력 확보, 고부가가치의 미래 신산업을 창출할 수 있는 세계 일류 기술의 발굴 및 지원이 요구됨에 따라 기초연구에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 하지만 기업이 기초연구의 결과물을 활용하여 사업화하는데 있어서 여러가지 문제점이 나타나고 있는데 이것은 기초연구 결과를 사업화하기 위한 경험 및 관련 활동이 부족하기 때문인 것으로 알려져 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기초 원천 연구의 기술사업화 활동이 경영성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 하였는데, 기술사업화 활동의 유형을 기술사업화 추진경험, 기술사업화 전담부서, 기술사업화 컨설팅으로 구분하였으며, 기술혁신 활동, 기술혁신 역량을 세분화 한 분석모형을 개발하고 경영성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 기술사업화 활동은 경영성과에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타남에 따라 기술사업화 활동의 중요성을 확인할 수 있었으며, 기술혁신 활동의 경우도 경영성과에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 분석되어 기업의 전략적 요소로 그 역할을 파악할 수 있었다. 마지막으로 기술혁신 역량은 경영성과에 부분적으로 영향을 주는 것으로 조사되어 전략적인 연구개발 인프라의 구축이 필요한 것으로 파악되었다.

  • For the success of total six sigma innovation, it is necessary to involve the suppliers In the six sigma activities. This paper presents the deployment and support system of six sigma innovation for suppliers, with the application to an aerospace production company. The process of project selection, project implementation, financial effect verification, benefit sharing is presented. This paper will benefit the companies which are going to enhance all the companies in the supply chain via six sigma activities.

  • 과학기술혁신을 통해 사회문제 해결을 지향하는 혁신정책이 부상하고 있다. 이 정책은 기술적 측면과 사회적 측면을 통합적으로 고려할 것을 요구하고 있다. 본 연구는 사회문제 해결형 혁신을 위한 '사회-기술기획'이라는 새로운 활동의 필요를 제시하고 그것의 특성과 발전방향을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 국내외에서 이루어지고 있는 사회-기술기획 활동 사례를 살펴보고 그 성격과 유형을 정리하였다. 그리고 이를 기반으로 사회-기술기획 활동의 발전 방향을 제시했다.

  • Korean Innovation Systems are in transition from catch-up regime to post catch-up regime. This paper tries to analyse the change of scientific and technological practices in the public sector of Korea Innovation Systems. This paper focus on the way public sector scientific and technological practices are regulated and contribute to private sector. It is argued that self-governing practice of public S&T community is being enhanced and the requests of private sector for the public sector's contribution through research activity are reinforced in emerging post catch-up regime.

정보기술 도입 결정기준 및 영향 요인 - 혁신특성과 핵심집단 관점 - (Decision Criteria and Affecting Factors in Information Technology Adoption - Innovation Characteristics and Critical Mass Perspective -)

  • The increased investment in technological innovations makes the investigation of factors affecting technology adoption more interesting. Several perspectives have been proposed to explain the determinants of information technology adoption. While the traditional innovation diffusion research streams try to explain and predict adoption behavior with the adopter's perceptions about the characteristics of the innovation itself, critical mass theorists argue that adoption behavior as a collective action is based on what their business partners are doing and whether there exists enough critical mass to justify the investment. Drawing on theses two perspectives, this study investigates the decision criteria in the adoption of information technology as innovation and factors affecting the decision criteria. The survey results reveal that the adoption behavior is affected both by innovation characteristics and by critical mass's activity. Correlation analysis, t-test, and stepwise regression models also show that as the environmental uncertainty is getting higher, adoption decision is affected more by what others are doing, and that highly competitive organizations seem to play the role of critical mass.

중소기업의 개방형 혁신활동 특성과 외부 협력 네트워크 분석 (Analyzing the Characteristics of Open Innovation Activity and the External Collaboration Network in SMEs)

  • 이 논문은 중소기업을 대상으로 최근 기술혁신의 새로운 패러다임으로 대두되고 있는 개방형 혁신활동을 파악하는데 목적을 두었다. 특히 중소기업들이 기술혁신 과정에서 어떻게 외부와의 협력 네트워크가 구축되며, 실제로 어떤 단계에서 개방형 혁신활동이 이루어지는 가를 분석하였다. 외부와의 협력을 통해 기술개발을 경험한 3,400개 중소기업을 대상으로 개방형 혁신활동의 특성을 파악하였으며, 기술혁신과정의 어떤 단계에서 어떻게 개방형 혁신활동이 이루어지는 가를 구체적으로 파악하기 위하여 충북테크노파크에 입지한 14개 업체를 대상으로 하여 심층 인터뷰도 병행하였다. 연구 결과 기업 자체의 혁신역량이 부족한 중소기업의 경우 아이디어 단계 및 기술개발 단계에서 개방형 혁신활동을 통해 외부로부터 다양한 자원을 활용하며, 기업이 혁신적일수록 개방형 혁신활동을 활발하게 수행하고 있고, 이직이나 창업과 같은 노동시장의 유연성도 나타나고 있다.

Ganoderma Lucidum Polysaccharides Target a Fas/Caspase Dependent Pathway to Induce Apoptosis in Human Colon Cancer Cells

  • Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides (GLP) extracted from Ganoderma lucidum have been shown to induce cell death in some kinds of cancer cells. This study investigated the cytotoxic and apoptotic effect of GLP on HCT-116 human colon cancer cells and the molecular mechanisms involved. Cell proliferation, cell migration, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels and intracellular free calcium levels ($[Ca^{2+}]i$) were determined by MTT, wound-healing, LDH release and fluorescence assays, respectively. Cell apoptosis was observed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. For the mechanism studies, caspase-8 activation, and Fas and caspase-3 expression were evaluated. Treatment of HCT-116 cells with various concentrations of GLP (0.625-5 mg/mL) resulted in a significant decrease in cell viability (P< 0.01). This study showed that the antitumor activity of GLP was related to cell migration inhibition, cell morphology changes, intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ elevation and LDH release. Also, increase in the levels of caspase-8 activity was involved in GLP-induced apoptosis. Western blotting indicated that Fas and caspase-3 protein expression was up-regulated after exposure to GLP. This investigation demonstrated for the first time that GLP shows prominent anticancer activities against the HCT-116 human colon cancer cell line through triggering intracellular calcium release and the death receptor pathway.

Effects of Dietary Supplementation with Ferulic Acid or Vitamin E Individually or in Combination on Meat Quality and Antioxidant Capacity of Finishing Pigs

  • This study aimed to evaluate the effects of vitamin E (VE), ferulic acid (FA) and their combination supplementation on meat quality and antioxidant capacities of finishing pigs. Sixty barrows were randomly allocated to four experimental diets using a $2{\times}2$ factorial arrangement with 2 VE supplemental levels (0 or 400 mg/kg) and 2 FA supplemental levels (0 or 100 mg/kg) in basal diets. After 28 days, six pigs per treatment were slaughtered. The results showed that VE supplementation increased loin eye area of pigs (p<0.05) and FA supplementation increased $pH_{45min}$ value (p<0.05). The interaction of $FA{\times}VE$ was observed in shear force of longissimus dorsi muscle (p<0.05). Moreover, supplementation with VE decreased hepatic and sarcous malondialdehyde (MDA) content, increased hepatic glutathione (GSH) content and sarcous glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity (p<0.05). Additionally, supplementation with FA increased hepatic GSH-Px activity and decreased sarcous MDA content (p<0.05). However, dietary treatment did not affect the expression of genes related to nuclear factor, erythroid 2-like 2 (NFE2L2) pathway. These results suggest that dietary FA and VE could partially improve meat quality and antioxidant capacity of finishing pigs, but not by activating NFE2L2 pathway under the normal conditions of farming.
