Selaginella vaginata is a common montane species with broad distribution in China and the Himalaya region, and several species that are morphologically similar to S. vaginata are distributed in Asia. The taxonomic revision of S. vaginata and related species was performed by morphological comparison of leaves, strobili, and spores, and phylogenetic analysis. Based on these results, a new species, S. subvaginata, sp. nov., has been identified. Morphologically, S. subvaginata has intermediate form between S. vaginata and S. repanda, which differs mainly in its main stem being erect, dorsal leaves long-ciliolate on inner margin and outer margin denticulate or with 2-4 cilia at base (long-ciliolate on both inner and outer margins in S. vaginata, denticulate on both inner and outer margins in S. repanda), and acroscopic base of ventral leaves long ciliolate (sparsely long ciliolate in S. vaginata, short ciliolate to denticulate in S. repanda). Moreover, phylogenetic analysis using three chloroplast markers(rbcL, atpI, and psbA) revealed that S. subvaginata is a distinct species among the anisosporophyllous species clade in Selaginellaceae.
Pine barks are important biomass resources because they are utilised in the production of pine wood and rosins. However, no chemical study has been conducted on the hydrophilic status of pine barks in Indonesia. This aim of this study is to explore the hydrophilic extracts of the barks from six Pinus species (P. elliotii, P. caribeae, P. oocarpa, P. merkusii P. montezumae, and P. insularis). The hydrophilics of pine barks were analysed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The presence of polyphenol contents in the ethanol extracts obtained from the barks of six Pinus species was determined using the tannin-formaldehyde method, Folin-Cioucalteu assay, and vanillin-HCl assay. The ethanol and hot water soluble extractives derived from inner barks were higher in quantity when compared to those derived from the outer bark samples. The polyphenol measurement showed that the highest value of total phenol content was derived from the outer bark of P. montezumae whereas those of the total phenol and tannin- formaldehyde contents were derived from the inner and outer barks of P. oocarpa. GC-MS analysis revealed that nitrogenous compounds are dominant constituents in the inner and outer barks of the six species, followed by sugars and monophenolics, respectively.

A new species of the canuellid genus Brianola Monard, 1926 (Copepoda: Harpacticoida) was collected during a meiofauna survey in July 2021 at the intertidal muddy sand of Phuket Island, Thailand. Currently, there are only eight known species of Brianola: B. stebleri, B. exigua, B. curvirostris, B. elegans, B. sydneyensis, B. vangoethemi, B. hamondi, and B. haliensis. Thus, the Brianola rawaiensis sp. nov. from Thailand is the ninth species of the genus. The new species, Brianola rawaiensis is most closely related to B. haliensis by sharing a four-segmented antennule in females and five-segmented antennule in males, eight-segmented antennary exopod and three-segmented antennary endopod, and P1 exp-3 with 5 spines/setae. However, B. rawaiensis sp. nov. is different from B. haliensis by having: 1) P1 exp-1 with 1 outer pinnate spine, 2) P1 exp-2 with inner plumose seta, 3) P2 exp-3 with 3 setae/spines, 4) P2 enp-1 with one inner plumose seta, 5) P4 enp-1 with inner seta. Sexual dimorphism is expressed in the antennule and segmentation of the urosome. Ovigerous female bearing one egg sac with 20 eggs.

We tested the hypothesis that alpine plants have special physiological and biochemical mechanisms in addition to their structural adaptation in order to survive under extreme conditions. The photosynthetic organs of Pinus pumila were used to examine the seasonal changes in sugar concentration, antioxidative enzyme, and lipid peroxidation. The concentrations of sucrose, glucose, fructose and reducing sugar were the highest in the leaves in April. But sugar contents in buds and inner barks did not respond sensitively on temperature change. Meanwhile superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity responded sensitively on the change of temperature and SOD in all tissues maintained high activity in April. Meanwhile anthocyanin content increased rapidly in June but the increase of anthocyanin content was not enough to prevent their tissues from the damage by the exposure of high temperature or other stress. In conclusion, under low temperature condition, P. pumila increased the concentration of soluble sugars and SOD activity in their tissues in order to overcome extreme environmental condition. But in summer, these stress defense system against high temperature might be disturbed slightly. This results in the increase of malondialdehyde (MDA) contents in three tissues by lipid peroxidation.
Spacial variation in organic components and temporal variation in the origin was examined through the organic geochemical (TC, TN, TS, $CaCO_3$, TOC, C/N, and $\delta^{13}C$) and pyrolysis analysis (HI, OI, and Tmax) in the core sediments which were acquired in the continental shelf of the South Sea close to Seomjin River. Levels of TC, TN, and TS show relatively low and constant in the core SJ03 located close to the Seomjin River mouth, while those are increased a little with being varied with low amplitude in the core SJ02 and SJ04 acquired at the middle of inner shelf area. They fluctuated with high amplitude in the core SJ01 and SJ05 near to the outer boundary of inner shelf. The vertical characteristics of organic components in the core SJ01 acquired at the outer boundary show that the area has undergone distinctly the environmental change at 9.0 kyr B.P. After 9.0 kyr B.P., Levels of TC, TOC, TN, $CaCO_3$, $\delta^{13}C$, HI, and Tmax are rapidly increased, while C/N and or are significantly decreased. Even though the contents of organic components are not high, such a changes reflect that the terrigenous organic matters were predominant before 9.0 kyr B.P due to the influence of Seomjin River, but after then, the marine organic matters have dominated due to the inflow of the Tshusima current.

The primary objective of this study was to gain insight into the characteristics of algal blooms in relation to the marine environment of the Korean Southern Coast, using more than 22 years worth of data since the first known occurrence of algal blooms. Algal blooms tend to occur when the precipitation or water temperature for a ten-day period prior to the annual bloom exceeds the long-term mean value. There are three notable causative species in six different inner bays, namely Prorocentrum sp., Skeletonema costatum, and Heterosigma akashiwo, and in addition, these three species appeared in different conditions of water temperature and salinity at each region.

There are a lot of manholes such as for water supply, sewage, telecommunication cable, traffic sign, electricity supply, and rainwater, etc. Conventional manholes installed on a road are impossible to adjust height, so that they should be entirely excavated to reinstall or repair. This entire excavation of a manhole causes too much time-consuming work, waste of resources, and obstruction of traffic. In this study, in order to solve the above mentioned problems, a cover, outer and inner parts of a manhole are integrated by gear-shaped parts located between outer and inner parts of a manhole. Mechanical design is performed to determine dimension of gear-shaped parts by Taguchi orthogonal array table. Cast molds for a gear-shaped manhole are also manufactured.
Seismic and side scan sonar traverses in the inner part of Gyeonggi bay was completed during 1976 and 1977 to depict the distribution and thickness of holocene sediments. Special attention was given to the locations of sand and gravel resources. The area of sand sediments is about $50km^2$ mostly distributed in outer part of inner bay. Maximum thickness of sand sediments is 40m with the averge of 10-15m. Tidal current prevailing in the bay seems to be the most important agent modifying the distributions and thickness of sediments in the Gyeonggi bay.
The genus Eurycletodes Sars, 1909 is reported for the first time in Korea. A new species of the genus Eurycletodes was collected from Hansando Island, South Sea of Korea. So far, Eurycletodes comprises 27 species, with no previously recorded species reported in East Asia, including Korea. Eurycletodes (Oligocletodes) vadumus sp. nov. is morphologically most closely related to E. (O.) denticulatus Por, 1967, E. (O.) aculeatus Sars, 1920, and E. (O.) diva Menzel, 2011, but clearly distinguishable from the others based on the following morphological characteristics: absence of A2 exopodal seta, A1 last segment with two inner setae, P4 exp-3 proximal inner seta modified, the ratio of length and of caudal rami (1.6 times), and mandibular palp with three setae. Together with the new species, the number of valid species in this genus has risen to 28. A key to species of the genus Eurycletodes is provided.
