  • This paper considers the problem of determining the cargo flow and the transportation mode in each trade route while satisfying the demand. Especially, the problem incorporates short sea shipping in Korea, which is becoming more important in order to improve efficiency of Logistics. The objective is to minimize the sum of shipping and inland transportation costs. To solve optimally the problem, this paper employs a linear programming model, which is an operations research technique for optimization. The problem is formulated by extending the well-known network design problem by considering capacity at seaport and limitation of total number of vehicles. The model is solved using CPLEX, a commercial linear program software. The test results using a real cargo flow data in Korea show that the model represents closely the real situation.

  • The importance of efficient container transportation becomes more significant each year due to the constant growth of the global marketplace, and studies focusing on shipping efficiency are becoming increasingly important. In this paper, we propose an approach for vehicle scheduling that decreases the number of vehicles required for freight commerce by analyzing and scheduling optimal routes. Container transportation can be classified into round and single-trip transportation, and each vehicle can be linked in a specific order based on the vehicle state after completing an order. We develop a mathematical model to determine the required number of vehicles with optimal routing, and a heuristic algorithm to perform vehicle scheduling for many orders in a significantly shorter duration. Finally, we tested some numerical examples and compared the developed model and the heuristic algorithm. We also developed a decision support system that can schedule vehicles based on the heuristic algorithm.

  • In this study, for purpose of searching for measures to lower the logistics costs which is one of the most difficulties for the small-medium sized manufacturers in Pusan and Kimhae, those manufacturers were surveyed with questionnaire about the facts in the export logistics costs, difficulties related to the costs, and measures they thought for lowering the cost. Taking account of findings from the survey, the comprehensive measures of saving the export logistics costs were to be proposed. In the surveyed manufacturers, the problems they thought over export logistics costs lied in short logistics information and transportation-related difficulties in cargo and distribution, insufficient standardization in packaging and the shortage of material handling equipments in unloading. In transportation, frequent non-fulfillment of in-time shipment, cost increase including over consumption of transportation time due to traffic jam, and the biased heavy use of inland transportation were pointed out as problems. In customs clearance, logistics information, and marine insurance, addressed were complexity in custom clearance and bonded transportation procedures, and the shortage of software and hardware to construct logistics information system.

  • In the field of logistics, the maritime shipping industry plays a critical role as the backbone of global trade activities. Nevertheless, previous studies on the commercialization and benefits of blockchain technology are limited in the field of marine logistics. Thus, the purpose of this study was to predict the benefit for each group involved in marine logistics when blockchain technology is applied. As such, 21 factors of benefits were selected for seven major logistics groups (financial institutions, freight forwarders, inland transportation, ocean carriers, port operators, port-related government authorities, and shippers) to study the benefit expected for each through the commercialization of blockchain technology. Based on the results, a different benefit level is expected for each group when blockchain technology is used. In order, ocean carriers (0.155), inland transportation (0.150), financial institutions (0.153), port operators (0.145), freight forwarders (0.142), port-related government authorities (0.129), and shippers (0.126) were found to benefit most from the use of blockchain technology. This study has industrial implications in that it presents the benefits expected when blockchain technology is realized and used in marine logistics by groups involved in logistics transactions.

  • Being situated at the key point of northeast asia, the port of Inchon as an entrance to the captial city, Seoul is expected to play in marine transportation in Korean Pennisular on the verge of its reunification. In this thesis, inner-lock physical disstribution system of the port was analyzed, which treats more than 82% of total incoming and outgoing cargoes. The overall findings are as follows; 1. In thet viewpoint of physical distribution system of the port, it takes disadvantages of accessing to inner lock berth due to such natural restrictions as tides, passing the lock and so on. And insufficient port facilities as a whole, causes delay in quay-handling, transfer and storage, also facing with serious congestion in inland transport on the road. 2. It was revealed that the port facilities are insufficient yet in spite of its improved productivity by means of raising the effectiveness of port operation and of installing advanced cargo handling facilities. 3. In order to enhance the effectiveness of inner port physical distribution system , the improvement of lock facilities, expansionof port facilities and more effective terminal operating system are crucial. 4. To ensure the measures to solve the above problem, existent outer-lock ports such as Inchon Sourthern-port and Northern-port are necessary to be redeveloped more positively , otherwise a new port at outskirt of the city should be developed to ensure free connection to inland transportation.

  • With development of port industry, inland transportation was also the developed. Connecting port with inland becomes more and more important. So studies about cargo flow from ports to regions are actively in progress. But freight statistics from regional to national has a problem that do not comprehend exactly with freight flow. Also these statistics don't reflect characteristics of multimodal transportation system. The objective of this paper is to analyze freight flow of container with the introduction of P/C and rebuilding freight statistics from regional to national scale.

  • To determine whether the reproductive processes of sea bass, Lateolabrax japonicus, proceed normally after transportation from an outdoor net-cage into indoor tanks, we examined changes in the gonadosomatic index (GSI), histological gonadal tissue, and plasma levels of sex hormones (testosterone and estradiol-17ß) during their annual reproductive cycle. We also measured maturation and spawning across two sea water salinity levels (full and low salinity). Fecundity was estimated by the relationship between egg number and body size in female sea bass. Monthly changes in the GSI, histological gonadal tissues, and oocyte size showed both male and female sea bass reach final maturation in January and February, respectively, indicating that the spermiation of males occurs earlier than the spawning of females. The histological results indicated that the sea bass is a multiple spawner, similar to many marine teleosts, exhibiting group-synchronous oocyte development. Female maturation and spawning were enhanced in lower salinity seawater (29.6-31.0 psu) compared to that of normal salinity (34.5-35.1 psu). These results confirm that sea bass reproduction can occur successfully in captivity and imply that fertilized eggs can be collected from February to March. Additionally, our results show that lower salinity enhances oocyte maturation and spawning of female sea bass.
