Development of a Flow Injection Analysis Technique for On-line Monitoring of Xylitol Concentrations (자일리톨 농도의 온라인 모니터링을 위한 흐름주입분석기술 개발)

  • Flow injection analysis technique for monitoring of xylitol concentrations in biological processes has been developed using xylitol oxidase (XYO) immobilized on VA-Epoxy Biosynth carrier. The immobilized XYO cartridge has been integrated into a FIA system with an oxygen electrode and systematically investigated with regards to the factors which can affect the activity of the immobilized XYO, such as pH, temperature, salt concentration etc. The activity of the immobilized XYO increased with the temperature ($19.0 - 29.0^{circ}C$) and sample injection volume ($75-250\muL$) and molarity of potassium phosphate buffer (0.1-1 M), but it reached the highest value at pH 8.5. The XYO-FIA system has been also applied for on-line monitoring of xylitol concentrations in a reactor and showed good operational stability and agreement with off-line data measured with HPLC.

  • In the present study, a numerical investigation of an insert injection molding process was carried out for the development of thermoplastic microfluidic chip plates with metal electrodes. Insert injection molding technology enables efficient realization of a plastic-metal hybrid structure and various efforts have been undertaken to produce novel components in several application fields. The microfluidic chip with metal inserts was proposed as a representative example and its molding process was analyzed. The important characteristics of the filling stage, such as the effects of filling time and thickness of the part cavity, were characterized. Furthermore, the detailed distributions of pressure and temperature at the end of the filling stage were investigated, revealing the significance of metal insert temperature.

  • For optimal injection molding, various molding conditions should be combined well. Therefore, engineers should be thoroughly familiar with mold design, fabrication, and injection molding. The choice of resin among the various molding conditions is closely related to the productivity of the molded part and the deformation after molding, so the engineer must select the appropriate resin. Engineers work on the basis of data provided by resin manufacturers during molding. However, in actual molding work, it is necessary to apply values slightly different from those provided to obtain molded articles of desired performance. In this study, various deformations of molded products were compared with respect to crystalline resin and amorphous resin when molded according to the data provided by the resin maker and molded at the changed values at the work site.

A study on the process optimization of microcellular foaming injection molded air-conditioner drain pen (화학적 초미세 발포 사출성형을 이용한 에어컨 드레인 펜의 공정 최적화에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, we applied microcellular foaming injection molding process to improve the performance of system air-conditioner drain fan which had been produced by injection molding process and studied the optimization of process conditions through 6-sigma process and response surface method (RSM) to reduce weight and deformation of products. Additive type, melt temperature, mold temperature, and injection screw shape were selected as the factor affecting the weight and deformation of the products by carrying out analysis of trivial many through ANOVA and design of experiment (DOE) method. Among the effect factor, we set the addictive type to Long G/F and screw shape to foaming screw which had the highest level of weight reduction and deformation reduction. The amount of foaming agent gas was set at 60 ml, which was the limit beyond which the weight of product did not decrease any more. For melt temperature and mold temperature, we studied the conditions where both weight and deformation were minimized using the RSM. As a result, we set the melt temperature to $250^{\circ}C$, fixed mold temperature to $20^{\circ}C$, and moving mold temperature to $40^{\circ}C$. The improvement effect was analyzed by appling the selected optimal conditions to the production process using the microcellular foaming injection molding. The results showed that the mean weight of product was measured to be 1,420g which was 19% lower than that measured in the current process. The standard deviations of the weights were found to be similar to those in the current process and it showed a low dispersion. The mean deformation was measured to be 0.9237mm, which represented a 57% reduction compared to the mean deformation in the current process, and the standard deviation decreased from 0.3298mm to 0.1398mm. Moreover, we analyzed the process capability for deformation, and the results showed that the short-term process capability increased from 2.73 to 6.60 which was even higher than targeted level of 6.0.

  • In this study,we conducted an injection molding analysis of metal powder materials for the development of flanges, which are necessary adapters for optical communication. The metal powder injection molding process is a technique for producing an injection molded article having a complicated shape by mixing ceramic or stainless powder and binders. It is used to produce products which require complex processing technology or for which the productivity is low. The purpose of this study is to minimize the manufacturing processing of products which are manufactured through existing mechanical processing procedures. For the injection molding analysis, we mixed stainless STS316 metal powder with binders at a ratio of 6 to 4 to make molding materials consisting of granular pellets. Then, three-dimensional modeling and meshing were carried out to obtain the optimal injection molding analysis conditions(molding temperature, melting temperature, injection time, injection temperature, injection pressure, packing time and cooling time). As a result of the analysis, it was discovered that the inlet became available 13.29 seconds after the first injection. Also, as the flowing and packing in the melt through the sprue, runner and gate were stable, it is expected that good molds can be manufactured.

The Effect on Mixed Ratio of Recycled Engineering plastic Resin on the Shrinkage in Molded Parts (엔지니어링 플라스틱 재료의 재활용 혼합비가 성형품 수축에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study. an experimental work was performed to mold tensile specimens by using the injection molding machine. Melt temperature, mold temperature and the mixed ratio of recycled resin were selected as processing parameters for studying the effect of those conditions on the shrinkage and weight of molded parts. As a result, the shrinkage was increased with the higher mold and melt temperature and it was more sensitive to the change of mold temperature. On the other hand, the weight of molded parts was decreased with the increment of mold and melt temperature.

  • In this paper, we studied the effects of mold temperature on the microstructure of injection molded parts. The weld line decreases in length and width as mold temperature increases. We investigated the dimensional stability of the parts made of two kinds of resin(polypropylene and polystyrene) by varying the mold temperature. As the mold temperature is high, both the shrinkage ratio and the thickness difference for the PS parts decreases. But the observation of PP parts shows a tendency to increase. The easiness of cavity filling and transcription of the mold texture is improved as the mold temperature is high.

  • In this study, an experimental work was performed to mold tensile specimens by using the injection molding machine. Simulation for the effect of vertical groundwater flux on the subsurface temperature distribution

  • Subsurface temperature is affected by heat advection due to groundwater advection. Temperature-depth profile can be perturbed especially when there are significant vertical groundwater flux caused by external force such as injection or extraction. This research is to clarify the change of subsurface temperature distribution when the 40m x l0m sandy aquifer is stimulated by two different vertical flux($case1:\;{\pm}10^{-5}m^3/s,\;case2:\;{\pm}4{\times}10^{-5}m^3/s$) using a program called HydroGeoSphere. The resulting temperature distribution contour map shows pumping causes vertical attraction of water from deeper and warmer place which result in rising up isotherm. Additionally more injection/extraction rate, more vertical groundwater flux leads to faster Increase in temperature near the pumping well.

Effects of Working Fuel Temperature on Injection Characteristics of Bypass Type Piezo Injector (작동 연료온도가 Bypass type 피에조 인젝터의 분사 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Diesel vehicles suffer from poor starting and running problems at cold temperatures. Diesel vehicles have the characteristic that CO and PM are reduced or similarly discharged when going from low temperature to high temperature. In this study, a bypass type piezo injector for electronic control based common rail injection system was used. Numerical analysis using injector drive analysis model was performed to analyze injector drive and internal fuel flow characteristics according to fuel temperature change. The results show that the rate of density change due to the fuel temperature is proportional, and that the effect of the kinematic viscosity is relatively large between $-20^{\circ}C$ and $0^{\circ}C$. Comparing the results of temperature condition at $0^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$, it is considered that the viscosity is more correlated with the needle displacement than the pressure chamber of the delivery chamber.
