  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the combustion emission characteristics by the effect of secondary air injection and variation of the excess air ratio in combustion field of model gas turbine combustor. For this purpose, mean temperature, CO, $CO_2$, $O_2$ and HC concentrations were measured by changing excess air ratio and secondary air injection. As a result of this study, mean temperature was decreased and CO, HC emission increased by increasing the excess air ratio of secondary air. Therefore, this results showed the secondary air injection effected strongly on the flame structure and combustion emission characteristics.

  • Recently, polymeric micro-fluidic biochips with numerous micro patterns on the surface were fabricated by injection molding for realizing low-cost mass production of devices. To evaluate the effects of process parameters on large-scale micro-structure replication, a $50{\times}50mm^2$ tool insert with surface structures having a patterns of trapezoidal shapes (height: $30{\mu}m$) was employed. During injection molding, PMMA was used; packing phase parameters and mold temperature were investigated. The replicated surface textures were quantitatively characterized by confocal laser microscopy with 10-nm resolution. The degree of replication at low mold temperatures was found to be higher than that at high mold temperature at the beginning of the packing stage. Thereafter, the degree of replication increased to a greater extent at higher mold temperatures; application of higher mold temperatures improved the degree of replication.

  • The spray characteristics of a high pressure 6-hole injector were examined in a single cylinder optical direct injection spark ignition (DISI) engine. The effects of injection timing, in-cylinder charge motion, fuel injection pressure and coolant temperature were investigated using the 2-dimensional Mie scattering technique. It was confirmed that the in-cylinder charge motion played a major role in the fuel spray distribution during the induction stroke while the propagation of fuel spray was restrained during the compression stroke by the increasing pressure and the upward moving piston. In additions, it was confirmed that the liquid fuel droplets existing at the sprays edges were vaporized by the increase of the coolant temperature.

  • The purpose of this research is the warpage reduction for intake-manifold which is made to the injection molding. Intake-manifold is assembling to ultra sonic welding after forming. Therefore deformation is influence on the performance and manufacture to intake-manifold product. Location and number of gates, filling time, mold temperature, packing time, packing pressure and cooling time are factors that affect the deformation of injection molding product. Therefore, the injection molding characteristics of intake-manifold and the estimated deformation are detected by CAE analysis and compare measuring data in this study.

  • An aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) model is simulated by FEFLOW according to the scenario of heat pump operation in two layered confining aquifer. The scenario is consisted of 4 steps: 90 days pumping (west well) and waste water injection (east well: 35 $^{\circ}C$), 90 day s stop, 90days pumping (east well) and waste water injection (west well: 5 $^{\circ}C$), and 95 days stop. The injection of the waste water is limited in the second layer and the first layer is aquitard. The temperature distribution at the surface shows low difference with reference temperature and opposit aspect with that of the second layer because the thermal transition through the first layer is very slow. Even though the simulated thermal transition in the aquifer system have a difference with real ATES system, optimal design and operate system can be developed with field tests and operational experience.

  • Thin-wall injection molding is associated with many advantages, including increased portability, the conserving of materials, and the reduction of the molding cycle times. In the application of the thin-wall molding, a considerable reduction of the effective flow thickness results in filling difficulty. High-frequency induction is an efficient way to overcome this filling difficulty by means of heating the mold surface by electromagnetic induction. The present study applies the induction heating to the injection molding of thinwalled micro structures with high aspect ratio. The feasibility of the proposed heating method is investigated through a numerical analysis. The estimated filling characteristics of the micro-features are investigated with variations of mold temperature and part thickness, of which results are also compared with experimental measurements.

  • The one of the most important subject to develop a LPDi engine is to suppress the generation of bubble inside LPG direct injector. For the purpose of this, in this study, the analogy visualization injector to visualize the generation and behavior of bubble, is manufactured and the bubbling phenomenon and behaviors are visualized and studied. The bubble inside the injector is generated at injection hole and after rising by buoyancy, it disappear around the top of a nozzle. The number of bubble generated is little changed regardless of the lapse of time but it is increased remarkably as the temperature around the injector is increased. With injection, the temperature around the injector at which the bubble is generated in_cylinder is much lower than that without injection because the transient pressure drop of fuel by injection.

  • LPG has been well known as a clean alternative fuel for vehicles. As a fundamental study on liquid phase LPG injection (hereafter LPLI) system application to heavy-duty engine, engine output and combustion performance were investigated with various operating conditions using a single cylinder engine equipped with the LPLI system. Experimental results revealed that no problems were occurred in application of the LPG fuel to heavy-duty engine, and that volumetric efficiency and engine output, by 10% approximately, were increased with the LPLI system. It was resulted from the decrease of the intake manifold temperature through liquid phase LPG fuel injection. These results provided an advantage in the decrease of the exhaust gas temperature, in the control of knocking phenomena, spark timing and compression ratio. The LPLI engine could normally operated under $\lambda$=1.5 or EGR 30% condition. The optimized swirl ratio for the heavy duty LPG engine was found around R_s$ = 2.0.

  • A synchronized secondaty air injection method has been developed to hydrocarbon emission by injecting secondary air intermittently into exhaust port. The method has been tested in a single cylinder spark-ignition engine operating at cold-steady / cold-start conditions. Effects of air injection timing, intake pressure and engine air-fuel ratio have been investigated at cold-steady condition. Also, hydrocarbon emission and exhaust gas temperature with catalytic conberter are compared with a continuous SAI method and base condition at cold-start condition. Resules show that hydrocarbon reduction rate and exhaust gas temperature are sensitive to the timing of synchronized SAI. At cold-steady condition, HC emission is minimum at engine air-fuel ratio of 10. At cold-start condition, the accumulated hydrocarbon emission during the first 120 s decreases about 56% and 22% with the synchronized and continuous SAI, respectively, compared to that of base condition.

  • Most of today's energy supply is obtained from fossil fuels. Despite of high energy density, higher store efficiency and long mileage, fossil fuels cause environmental pollution and their reserves are limited. In this study pure hydrogen gas and oxygen gas are burned without the emission of pollution. A gas turbine is used to obtain power. Water is injected into a combustor, which prevents overheating and recovers cooling heat. Excessively supplied water is recirculated. With variation of mass flow rate and equivalence ratio, the affection of water injection rate and the temperature of injected water on efficiency and power are experimented. Injected water gets cooling heat, is expanded from liquid to vapor and raises the thermal efficiency. It is enable to determine the rate of water injection, which makes the maximum power. The increase of temperature of water injection raises the efficiency of the system.
