For the evaluation of safety margin of a nuclear power plant using a conservative methodology, the influence of applied assumptions such as initial conditions and boundary conditions needs to be assessed deliberately. Usually, a combination of the most conservative initial conditions is determined, and the safety margin for the transient is evaluated through the analysis for this conservative conditions. In existing conservative methodologies, a most-conservative condition is searched through the analyses for the maximum, minimum, and nominal values of the major parameters. In the present study, we investigates a new approach which can be applied to choose a most-conservative initial condition effectively when a best-estimate computer code and a conservative evaluation methodology are utilized for the evaluation of safety margin of transients. By constituting the band of various initial conditions using the random sampling of input parameters, the sensitivity study for various parameters are performed systematically. A method of sampling the value of control or operation parameters for a certain range is adopted by use of MOSAIQUE program, which enables to minimize the efforts for achieving the steady-state for various different conditions. A representative control parameter is identified, which governs the reactor coolant flow rate, pressurizer pressure, pressurizer level, and steam generator level, respectively. It is shown that an appropriate distribution of input parameter is obtained by adjusting the range and distribution of the control parameter.
The present study has been conducted economic analysis of heat storage type ground source heat pump system(HSGSHP) and normal ground source heat pump (GSHP) and central boiler system with individual air conditioning facility which are installed at the same building in the shared an apartment house. Cost items, such as initial construction cost, annual energy cost and maintenance cost of each system are considered to analyze life cycle cost (LCC) and simple payback period (SPP) with initial cost different are compared. The initial cost is a rule to the Government basic unit cost of production. LCC applied present value method is used to assess economical profit of both of them. Variables used to LCC analysis are prices escalation rate and interest rate mean values of during latest 10 years. The LCC result shows that HSGSHP (1,351,000,000won) is more profitable than central boiler system with individual air conditioning facility by 86.7% initial cost. And SPP appeared 8.0 year overcome the different initial cost by different annual energy cost.

The effects of initial soil fabric and aspect ratio (AR) on the small-strain stiffness (G0) of granular soils are studied by employing discrete element method (DEM) numerical analysis. Elongated clumps composed of subspheres were adopted, and the G0 values were obtained by DEM simulations of drained triaxial tests under different densities and initial confining pressure (p0). The DEM simulations indicate that the initial soil fabric has an insignificant effect on G0. The effect of the AR on G0 is related to the initial density. Namely, for dense specimens, G0 first increases with increasing AR, reaching a plateau value when the AR ≥ 1.5. However, for loose specimens, G0 gradually increases as the AR increases. Microscopic examination reveals that G0 uniquely depends on the coordination number of the particles (CN-particle) rather than the subspheres (CN-sphere) at the particulate level for the effects of initial soil fabric and AR. Finally, Poisson's ratio ν0 is also determined by CN-particle. In addition, based on data in literature and this study, ν0 can be fitted as ν0 = 5.920(G0/(p0)1/3)-0.99, which can be used to predict ν0 of granular soils based on the measured G0.

This paper considers a global resolution of kinematic redundancy under inequality constraints as a constrained optimal control. In this formulation, joint limits and obstacles are regarded as state variable inequality constraints, and joint velocity limits as control variable inequality constraints. Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived by using Pontryagin's minimum principle and penalty function method. These conditions leads to a two-point boundary-value problem (TPBVP) with natural, periodic and inequality boundary conditions. In order to solve the TPBVP and to find a global minimum, a numerical algorithm, named two-stage algorithm, is presented. Given initial joint pose, the first stage finds the optimal joint trajectory and its corresponding minimum performance cost. The second stage searches for the optimal initial joint pose with globally minimum cost in the self-motion manifold. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through a simulation with a 3-dof planar redundant manipulator.
This study aims to analyze the S. I. F. K value upon Mode I cracks in a finite-width plate of varying thickness, which is expressed in terms of width ratio ($\omega$), thickness ratio ($\beta$) and non-dimensional crack length (λ) by using the 2-dimensional finite element method. Then, by comparing the effectiveness of the results obtained by the two finite element methods, it is seen that the 2-dimensional finite element method can be used in order to analyse the S. I. F. K values upon a various thickness model. A model is developed in order to analyze the effects of initial residual stress upon the fatigue crack growth behavior in various thickness welded specimens. In this model, crack growth rate da/dN appears to be come small as the thickness ratio with the same ΔK is increased. Also, in the initial step, as ΔK is increased with crack growth rate is decreased and then increased because the repeated compressive residual stress retards crack growth rate.
A nuclear power plant requires a huge amount of initial investment and long construction lead time. As we expect that there may exist a relationship between investment and construction lead time, a number of researchers have reported that nearly a half of investments is incurred due to time factors such as the time value of money and inflation or escalation rates. Therefore, we investigated in this paper a relationship between the initial investment and the construction lead time of a nuclear power plant construction, and proposed a method for a trade-off analysis between the annual equivalent worth and the investment alternatives to reduce the construction lead time. Finally, we presented a real case to numerically explain the steps of the method presented in this paper.
Abstract A series of permeability tests was performed on the mixtures with specific mixing rates of sand and bentonite using modified rigid-wall permeameter. Sand-bentonite mixtures were permeated by organics, ethanol and TCE. Permeability of bentonite with several mixing rates had a tendency to decrease up to initial one pore volume and permeability was thereafter converged to a constant value. When sand-bentonite mixtures was permeated by water, permeability was decreased at the beginning but it was thereafter converged to a constant. Among several mixing rates, permeability was greatly decreased at 15% of mixing rate. When sand-bentonite mixtures with 15% mixing rate was permeated by ethanol, permeability was about 10 times larger value than permeability of water. Peameability was shown greater values when permeated by TCE (TrichloroEthylene) followed by ethanol. Suitable mixing rate of sand-bentonite for a liner of waste landfills was detected.
This objective of this paper is to develop an efficient method with small memory requirement for a feed-mixing problem on a micro computer. First this method uses the decomposition principle to reduce the memory requirement. Next, the decomposition principle is modified to fit the problem. Further four different variations in solving subproblems are designed in order to improve efficiency of the principle. According to the test with respect to the processing time, the best variation is such that the dual simplex method is used, and the optimal basis of a previous subproblem is used as an initial basis, and the master problem is (M +1) dimensional. In general, the convergence of solution becomes slower near the optimal value. This paper introduces a termination criterion for a sufficiently good solution. According to the test, 5%-tolerence is acceptable with respect to the relation between the processing time and optimal value.
In this study, we propose a new Fire Flame Region Extraction using Block Homogeneity Segmentation method of the Fire Image with irregular texture and various colors. It is generally assumed that fire flame extraction plays a very important role. The Color Image with fire flame is divided into blocks and edge strength for each block is computed by using modified color histogram intersection method that has been developed to differentiate object boundaries from irregular texture boundaries effectively. The block homogeneity is designed to have the higher value in the center of region with the homeogenous colors or texture while to have lower value near region boundaries. The image represented by the block homogeneity is gray scale image and watershed transformation technique is used to generate closed boundary for each region. As the watershed transform generally results in over-segmentation, region merging based on common boundary strength is followed. The proposed method can be applied quickly and effectively to the initial response of fire.
