  • This paper attempts to highlight quantitatively the growth and development of literature in the field of ecology in terms of publication output using the resource Web of Science$^{(R)}$. The focus of this analysis was to study the literature on ecology published in three journals, viz., Ecology Letters, Trends in Ecology & Evolution, and Annual Review of Ecology Evolution and Systematics. 2946 records were retrieved for 10 years (2003-2012). The study revealed that multiple authorship in the field with collaborations of two (30.31%) and three authors (19.89%) was dominant. The Degree of collaboration, Collaborative coefficient, and Collaborative index were calculated and the applicability of Lotka's law was tested. The study identified five-year patterns in research trends, using the three studied journals, to see if the subjects of focus changed within a decade. The most productive institution was University Calif. Davis, USA, followed by University Calif. Santa Barbara, USA, and University Queensland, Australia, and the most productive countries were the USA followed by UK and Canada.

This research was conducted from April 6 to April 22. 2009. The results of this study were as the follows: First, most of the papers, 20(28.6%), were published in the journal of Korean journal of food culture. In addition, most articles had a single author, 24(34.3%). In regard to the profession of the auther, university professor was the most frequent profession, 127 persons(68.3%). In terms of the research subjects, preference was the most dominant preference(19.2%). Investigatory research was the most frequent research method, 58 papers(82.9%). Furthermore, foreigners and natives were the most dominant research objects, 21 papers(30.0%). As for the analysis methods, frequency analysis, one-way ANOVA, T-test, reliability analysis, and factor analysis were used the most in that order. Future studies should includ papers for master's degrees and doctorial degrees.

  • Zinc Sulfide (ZnS) is one of the II-VI semiconducting materials, having novel fundamental properties and diverse areas of application such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), electroluminescence, flat panel displays, infrared windows, catalyst, chemical sensors, biosensors, lasers and biodevices, etc. However, despite the remarkable versatility and prospective potential of ZnS, research and development (R&D) into its applications has not been performed in much detail relative to research into other inorganic semiconductors. In this study, based on global patent information, we analyzed recent technical trends and the current status of R&D into ZnS applications. Furthermore, we provided new technical insight into ZnS applicable fields using in-depth analysis. Especially, this report suggests that ZnS, due to its infrared-transmitting optical property, is a promising material in astronomy and military fields for lenses of infrared systems. The patent information analysis in this report will be utilized in the process of identifying the current positioning of technology and the direction of future R&D.

  • Human exposure to pollutants has been on the rise. Thus, researchers have been focused on understanding the effect of these compounds on human health, especially on the genetic information by using various tests, among them the somatic mutation and recombination tests (SMARTs). It is a sensitive and accurate method applicable to genotoxicity analysis. Here, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of SMART assays in genotoxicity studies was performed to assess publication trends of this field. Data were extracted from the Web of Science database and analyzed by the bibliometric tools HistCite, Biblioshiny (RStudio), VOSViewer, and CiteSpace. Results have shown an increase in the last 10 years in terms of publication. A total of 392 records were published in 96 sources mainly from Brazil, Spain, and Turkey. Research collaboration networks between countries and authors were performed. Based on document co-citation, five large research clusters were identified and analyzed. The youngest research frontier emphasized on nanoparticles. With this study, how research trends evolve over years was demonstrated. Thus, international collaboration could be enhanced, and a promising field could be developed.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify rural research topics, differences in research topics over time, and key mediators through the analysis of academic research trends using topic modeling. This study analyzed a total of 1,183 articles published in the Journal of Rural Planning and Rural Society over a 23-year period (2000-2022). We categorized rural research topics into 30, examined the proportion of research in each topic, and identified major changes in research topics over time. We also identified key words that mediate between research topics. The study found that, first, rural research trends can be categorized into five types (resources and utilization, area/space, people, ecosystem/environment, and tourism), with area/space being the most studied. Subtopics include rural amenities, rural disappearance/village miniaturization, and rural landscape management. Second, the research topics for each period were different. In the first period(2003-2007), the main research topics were rural amenities and Agricultural production- based climate vulnerability assessment. In the second period(2008-2012), the main research topics were Rural extinction and village depopulation, and rural landscape management, and in the third period(2013-2017), the main research topics were rural sixth industrialization and rural ecotourism. In the fourth period(2018-2022), rural development planning and rural life services(life SOC) were the main research topics. The significance of this study is that it extends the existing method of analyzing research trends and provides basic data to enhance comprehensive insights and understanding of rural research.

  • The Information of Technology Trend is one of the critical factors for research activities. In addition, this information tremendously affects the decision-making process of Science and Technology Policy. However, metadata of this information has not gain much attention so far. This research suggests metadata element and encoding scheme that is based on NewsML and using metadata of domestic Information of Technology Trend service system. The result of this research provides the basic resources for developing standard metadata of Information of Technology Trend which is suitable for domestic information technology situation.

  • This article describes the latest development of a generic approach to detecting emerging trends and transient in scientific literature. The work makes substantial theoretical and methodological contributions to progressive Information analysis. A specialty is conceptualized as a time variant duality research front concepts in information science. A research front is defined as an emergent and transient grouping of concepts and underlying research issues. The contributions of the approach is that the nature of an intellectual base is algorithmically and temporally identified by emergent research-front terms. The modeling process is implemented in RADERS, and applied to the analysis of telecommunication field. Practical implications of the work are discussed. A number of challenges and opportunities for future studies are identified.

  • The importance of reliability engineering has increased in recent years. Many studies have been carried out into reliability in a variety of research domains, largely focused on industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, materials engineering and statistical science. However, most of these studies were carried out without collaboration between different areas of study. Here, we analyze research papers and patents regarding reliability that were published during the past five years, and describe core trends in the development of reliability technology from a multidisciplinary perspective.
