  • Internet has been becoming widely popular and making rapid progress and network technologies is showing extension in data transmission speeds. Rapid and convenient multimedia services supplied with high quality and high speed are being needed, This paper treats of the design and implement method of clip-based video retrieval system on the world-wide-web environments. The implemented system consists of the content-based indexing system supporting convenient services for video contents providers and the web-based retrieval system in order to make it easy and various information retrieval for users on the world-wide-web. Three important methods were used in the content-based indexing system. Key frame extracting method by dividing video data, clip file creation method by clustering related information and video database build method by using clip unit, In web-based retrieval system, retrieval method by using a key word, two dimension browsing method of key frame and real-time display method of the clip were used. As a result. the proposed methodologies showed a usefulness of video content providing. and provided an easy method for searching intented video content.

  • As progressing rapidly to the information society and increasing greatly the amount of information, many researchers have been made utilizing XML to store and retrieval the information effectively. But, many other existing method could not support various structured retrieval method for specific parent, children and sibling nodes. In this paper, we propose (1)an effective method of representation for structured information and of indexing mechanism using OETID(Ordered Element Type ID) for effective management and structured retrieval of the XML documents. Also it contains another proposal that is (2) a documents integration mechanism for retrieval result and storing technique to store structural information of the XML documents. With our methods, we could effectively represent structural information of XML documents, and could directly access the specific elements and process various queries by simple operations.

  • This paper proposes a new image retrieval method called the 3D integrated multi-index to fuse SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) visual words with other features at the indexing level. The advantage of the 3D integrated multi-index is that it can produce finer subdivisions in the search space. Compared with the inverted indices of medium-sized codebook, the proposed method increases time slightly in preprocessing and querying. Particularly, the SIFT, contour and colour features are fused into the integrated multi-index, and the joint cooperation of complementary features significantly reduces the impact of false positive matches, so that effective image retrieval can be achieved. Extensive experiments on five benchmark datasets show that the 3D integrated multi-index significantly improves the retrieval accuracy. While compared with other methods, it requires an acceptable memory usage and query time. Importantly, we show that the 3D integrated multi-index is well complementary to many prior techniques, which make our method compared favorably with the state-of-the-arts.

  • Measuring the similarity of given samples is a key problem of recognition, clustering, retrieval and related applications. A number of works, e.g. kernel method and metric learning, have been contributed to this problem. The challenge of similarity learning is to find a similarity robust to intra-class variance and simultaneously selective to inter-class characteristic. We observed that, the similarity measure can be improved if the data distribution and hidden semantic information are exploited in a more sophisticated way. In this paper, we propose a similarity learning approach for retrieval and recognition. The approach, termed as LDA-FEK, derives free energy kernel (FEK) from Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). First, it trains LDA and constructs kernel using the parameters and variables of the trained model. Then, the unknown kernel parameters are learned by a discriminative learning approach. The main contributions of the proposed method are twofold: (1) the method is computationally efficient and scalable since the parameters in kernel are determined in a staged way; (2) the method exploits data distribution and semantic level hidden information by means of LDA. To evaluate the performance of LDA-FEK, we apply it for image retrieval over two data sets and for text categorization on four popular data sets. The results show the competitive performance of our method.

  • This study aims to identify the status of the classification retrieval operation by investigating and analyzing the classification retrieval related to the books in the university libraries. The Investigation concentrated on whether the classification retrieval service is provided, Access Method and classification retrieval level. The data was collected from 97 libraries where URL access was available during the period of survey in 100 libraries selected by the systematic sampling. As a result, while $92.8\%$ of 97 libraries provided the classification retrieval service, $52.2\%$ of it enabled the access to classification retrieval service only by the classification number and $47.8\%$ by classification number and classification directory. Consequently, it was found that the retrieval environment in the libraries where the access was enabled only by classification number should be urgently improved for the activation of classification retrieval.

  • With the rapid expansion of web information, conventional information retrieval techniques are becoming inadequate for users and often result in disappointment, because a couple of simple keywords can easily produce information too much. This study aims at the development of Web information retrieval techniques based on semantics to improve the quality of understanding for information. To achieve the goal, this study analyzes technologies and current status of researches on semantic information retrieval. With the results which are requirements, system architecture and indexing method, this study proposes the system architecture of semantic-based information retrieval system.

  • Providing natural and efficient access to the fast growing multimedia information is a critical aspect for content-based information system. Query by humming system allows the user to find a song by humming part of the tune form music database. Conventional music information retrieval systems use a high precision pitch extraction method. However, it is very difficult to extract true pitch perfectly. So, In this paper, we propose to use YIN parameter with applying the reliability to reduce the pitch extraction errors. And we describes developed music information retrieval method based on a query by humming system which uses reliable feature extraction. Developed system is based on a continuous dynamic programming algorithm with features including pitch, duration and energy along with their confidence measures. The experiment showed that the proposed method could reduce the errors of the top-10 7.2% and the top-1 9.1% compared with the cepsturm based multiple pitch candidate. The overall retrieval system achieved 92.8% correct retrieval in the top-10 rank list on a database of 155 songs.

  • In this paper, we first propose new texture features, BVLC (block variation of local correlation coefficients) moments, for content-based image retrieval (CBIR) and then present an image retrieval method based on the fusion of BDIP and BVLC moments. BDIP uses the local probabilities in image blocks to extract valley and edges well. BVLC uses the variations of local correlation coefficients in images blocks to measure texture smoothness well. In order not to be affected with the movement, rotation, and size of an object, the first and second moments of BDIP and BVLC are used for CBIR. Corel DB and Vistex DB are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed retrieval method. Experimental results show that the presented retrieval method yields average 12% better performance than the method using only BDIP or BVLC moments and average 13% better performance than the method using wavelet moments.

  • The advent of KM(knowledge management) concept have led many organizations to seek an effective way to make use of their knowledge. But the absence of right tools for systematic handling of unstructured information makes it difficult to automatically retrieve and share relevant information that exactly meet user's needs. we propose a systematic method to enable content-based information retrieval from corpus of unstructured documents. In our method, a document is represented by using several key terms which are automatically selected based on their quantitative relevancy to the document. Basically, the relevancy is calculated by using a traditional TFIDF measure that are widely accepted in the related research, but to improve effectiveness of the measure, we exploited 'concept network' that represents term-term relationships. In particular, in constructing the concept network, we have also considered relative position of terms occurring in a document. A prototype system for experiment has been implemented. The experiment result shows that our approach can have higher performance over the conventional TFIDF method.

  • To address the problem of multi-target retrieval (MTR) of remote sensing images, this study proposes a new object-level feature representation model. The model provides an enhanced application image representation that improves the efficiency of MTR. Generating the model in our scheme includes processes, such as object-oriented image segmentation, feature parameter calculation, and symbolic image database construction. The proposed model uses the spatial representation method of the extended nine-direction lower-triangular (9DLT) matrix to combine spatial relationships among objects, and organizes the image features according to MPEG-7 standards. A similarity metric method is proposed that improves the precision of similarity retrieval. Our method provides a trade-off strategy that supports flexible matching on the target features, or the spatial relationship between the query target and the image database. We implement this retrieval framework on a dataset of remote sensing images. Experimental results show that the proposed model achieves competitive and high-retrieval precision.
