  • Information theoretic learning (ITL) methods based on random symbols (RS) use a set of random symbols generated according to a target distribution and are designed nonparametrically to minimize the cost function of the Euclidian distance between the target distribution and the input distribution. One drawback of the learning method is that it can not utilize the input power statistics by employing a constant stepsize for updating the algorithm. In this paper, it is revealed that firstly, information potential input (IPI) plays a role of input in the cost function-derivative related with information potential output (IPO) and secondly, input itself does in the derivative related with information potential error (IPE). Based on these observations, it is proposed to normalize the step-size with the statistically varying power of the two different inputs, IPI and input itself. The proposed algorithm in an communication environment of impulsive noise and multipath fading shows that the performance of mean squared error (MSE) is lower by 4dB, and convergence speed is 2 times faster than the conventional methods without step-size normalization.

  • Despite the growing emphasis on the importance of knowledge exchange among supply chain participants, few companies have fully exploited the knowledge resources held by their supply chain partners. Among many reasons for this phenomenon, recent literature on inter-firm knowledge exchange identifies knowledge complementarities between the supply channel partners as an important determinant of knowledge exchange. Firms participating in a supply chain are likely to exchange partners' complementary knowledge. In order to extract value from them, it is important to recognize the difference between the potential value and the implementation of this potential value. However, the literature fails to distinguish between potential knowledge complementarities and implemented knowledge complementarities. In order to realize the value of potential knowledge complementarities, knowledge should be exchanged and effectively integrated in the supply channel. Further, investigating inter-firm knowledge exchange from both partners' perspectives is important especially when there are interdependencies between the channel partners. The purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of potential knowledge complementarities on knowledge exchange in buyer-supplier relationships by looking at both partners' perspectives. This research also includes trust in partner's competence and inter-organizational information systems (IOIS) as they are relevant when the complementary knowledge flows between organizations. The data required for this field study was collected from 70 buyers and their suppliers in three multinational enterprises in two different industries (Automobile manufacturing and Telecommunication services) headquartered in Korea. The results indicate that potential knowledge complementarities between buyer and supplier do not directly influence knowledge exchange, but indirectly through trust in partner's competence. And the results indicate that competence-based trust and IOIS have direct effects on knowledge exchange. Empirical results also show that IOIS moderates the relationship between potential knowledge complementarities and knowledge exchange. This study is a first attempt to empirically verify the theoretical model about potential knowledge complementarities and to investigate the impact of potential knowledge complementarities on interfirm knowledge exchange. From a theoretical perspective, this study not only clarifies the distinction between potential knowledge complementarities and implemented knowledge complementarities, but also develops an instrument to measure the concept of potential knowledge complementarities in the context of operational and planning knowledge in a supply chain. Further, we develop a theoretical framework suggesting that potential knowledge complementarities of partners in a supply chain affect knowledge exchange directly and indirectly through competence-based trust. The findings from this study have some managerial implications for practicing managers as well. First, buyers should search for suppliers that have potential complementary knowledge, which can be integrated to create synergy through interfirm knowledge exchange. Furthermore, firms must develop mechanisms to identify potential complementary knowledge of partners. Second, firms should continue their endeavor to develop their own unique knowledge so that their knowledge can benefit the entire supply channel. Finally, trust among supply chain partners turns out to be an important factor for interfirm knowledge exchange. Therefore, effective management for engendering trustworthy buyer-supplier relationships should receive appropriate attention from managers.

  • Monte-Carlo GO is a computer GO program that is sufficiently competent without using knowledge expressions of IGO. Although it is computationally intensive, the computational complexity can be reduced by properly pruning the IGO game tree. Here, I achieve this by using a potential model based on the knowledge expressions of IGO. The potential model treats GO stones as potentials. A specific potential distribution on the GO board results from a unique arrangement of stones on the board. Pruning using the potential model categorizes legal moves into effective and ineffective moves in accordance with the potential threshold. Here, certain pruning strategies based on potentials and potential gradients are experimentally evaluated. For different-sized boards, including an official-sized board, the effects of pruning strategies are evaluated in terms of their robustness. I successfully demonstrate pruning using a potential model to reduce the computational complexity of GO as well as the robustness of this effect across different-sized boards.

  • Please In this paper, to cope with biased impulsive noise problems, a new information potential is proposed that can move the transmitted symbol points by modifying the information potential designed with Dirac-delta functions. Based on the proposed information potential a new blind algorithm is derived by employing an augmented filter structure. From the simulation results in the environment of biased impulsive noise, the conventional algorithms yield performance degradation by over 15 dB, but the proposed algorithm shows no performance degradation and holds the same steady state MSE of below -25 dB as after the initial convergence regardless of the channel conditions.

  • Blind algorithms based on Information potential of output samples and a set of symbols generated in random order at the receiver go through performance degradation when biased impulsive noise is added to the channel since the cost function composed of information potentials has no variable to deal with biased signal. Aiming at the robustness against biased impulsive noise, we propose, in this paper, a modified information potential, and derived related blind algorithms based on augmented filter structures and a set of random-order symbols. From the simulation results of blind equalization for multipath channels, the blind algorithm based on the proposed information potential produced superior convergence performance in the environments of strong biased impulsive noise.

  • A novel Virtual Space Vector (VSV) modulation strategy for complete control of potential neutral point (NP) issues is proposed in this paper. The neutral point potential balancing problems of multi-level converters, which include elimination of low frequency oscillations and self-balancing for NP dc unbalance, are investigated first. Then a set of improved virtual space vectors with dynamic adjustment factors are introduced and a multi-objective optimization algorithm which aims to optimize these adjustment factors is presented in this paper. The improved virtual space vectors and the multi-objective optimization algorithm constitute the novel Virtual Space Vector modulation. The proposed novel Virtual Space Vector modulation can simultaneously recover NP dc unbalance and eliminate low frequency oscillations of the neutral point. Experiment results show that the proposed strategy has excellent performance, and that both of the neutral point potential issues can be solved.

  • The aim of this study is to analyze gold-silver mineral potential in the Taebaeksan mineralized district, Korea using a Geographic Information System(GIS) and an artificial neural network(ANN) model. A spatial database considering Au and Ag deposit, geology, fault structure and geochemical data of As, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb and Zn was constructed for the study area using the GIS. The 46 Au and Ag mineral deposits were randomly divided into a training set to analyze mineral potential using ANN and a test set to verify mineral potential map. In the ANN model, training sets for areas with mineral deposits and without them were selected randomly from the lower 10% areas of the mineral potential index derived from existing mineral deposits using likelihood ratio. To support the reliability of the Au-Ag mineral potential map, some of rock samples were selected in the upper 5% areas of the mineral potential index without known deposits and analyzed for Au, Ag, As, Cu, Pb and Zn. As the result, No. 4 of sample exhibited more enrichments of all elements than the others.
